Spotted Tim posting about his cake pre-order from a Facebook group post and decided to try their tie guan yin basque cheesecake with osmanthus cream. I picked it up in Japantown, which was pretty smooth with a small line of folks picking up their orders as well.
The cake turned out to be a bit smaller than I anticipated, smaller than 6 inches, but maybe that was just because it's a basque cheesecake. It also had a hefty weight to it. We enjoyed it later that night, and the tea flavor was really pronounced, with a nice roasty taste. The inside was incredibly creamy, and it probably the best texture I've had in a basque cheesecake. The burnt crust on top added a nice touch, though it wasn't as prominent due to the tea flavor.
The osmanthus cream didn't bring a ton of flavor; it just introduced a light creaminess. The cake held up well in the fridge over the next few days. While it leaned a little on the expensive side, it's a delightful treat for those who enjoy basque cheesecakes. read more
