New location for the Chinatown bakery pop up associated with Mister Jius! Everything I tried from this bakery was phenomenal - they incorporate nostalgic flavors from your local Asian bakery with the airy textures but it's all blended with fine dining vibes. I ordered the Magnolia Box, which was the four pie slices pictured above:
- Parisian egg tart
- almond dacquoise with chocolate mousse, miso caramel, and hazelnut
- burnt honey pie
- strawberry black sesame cheese tart
All four pie slices were phenomenal! They look like entremets in the shape of a pie - so many layers! I was shocked that they were able to stay up and be stiff enough to hold. I think that they used some gelatin, but it doesn't taste overly gelatinous, so that was really nice. My favorite was the Parisian egg tart - it looks like a basque cheesecake but it's actually more like the inside of a choux bun in the best way.
I also ordered a chocolate chip and toasted peanut cookie. Note that it's peanuts, not peanut butter, which was interesting and unique. I love the toasted flavor and chewy texture of the cookie.
I couldn't leave without getting the apricot sponge cake, which was delightful. The sponge cake was very delicate, like an Asian bakery cake, but the apricot filling had a nice tartness to it. The cream that it came with was also somehow tasting very fine dining-esque and elevated somehow. I would definitely come back here! I love how tucked away the space is. It is in a bit of an industrial area, but once you find it, it's an oasis of calm, and there are places to sit. It's just great. read more
