I came to Houston really wanting to eat Viet-Cajun food and as luck would have it, it was prime crawfish season. I worried at first because only after I arrived here did I realize my local foodie friend had vehemently recommended a different place with a similar name, and that I mistakenly brought my group here, to the place with the lesser star rating. Fortunately everything turned out just fine. What we wanted: crawfish, crab, noodles, pho, fried rice, and non seafood items for one person in our group, and they had all of the above. Our non-seafood eating friend had the fish sauce wings, and the rest of our group feasted on pounds of crawfish, crab, crawfish fried rice, and pho. The sauce on the crawfish was addictive, and the crawfish itself was very succulent. I found the crab less fresh, and the crawfish fried rice too salty. But everything was edible. This place gets bonus points because we were struggling to open the crab legs with just scissors because we're used to using a metal cracking tool, but our server initially walked us through the proper use of scissors but went ahead and just cut all our crab legs open for us when we looked at him with puzzled faces after his demonstration. We easily got a table for 8 as walk-ins, but the space filled up quickly as the evening progressed, so I'd recommend reservations to be safe. read more

My friends and I went there before I believe two years ago our waiter was very very nice but we didn't see her anymore (Alli) but ever since that we don't like this place it's been different. Service was slow food tasted different not as the same. Wasn't professional at all here the employees gave us an off vibe and I'm not comfortable at this place like I was before, and one of the waiter was being real disrespectful with one of my friends. We went on a Saturday of course it would be busy on weekends, but the reservation wasn't even available that time I recommend anyone who comes here or still comes here. Don't come here at all. I fear this place may have fallen off.. First of all, having to pay $1-2 extra per corn/small potato is mad stingy. I've never seen a crawfish boil place do that. Also needing to ask for bibs/gloves at a crawfish place where those things are necessary didn't sit well with me. Coming to Houston, we were so excited to try Viet-Cajun food. Especially at Crawfish and Noodles as one of the self-proclaimed pioneers of the cuisine in Houston. First off, the food was amazing. The shrimps were so big and juicy and the sauce paired so well with it. We also got the crawfish fried rice which was so good when dipped into the sauce. The viet flavors really came through with the strong spicy butter sauce and I was not disappointed on that front. The only criticisms I have is that the service here is really slow as it took a while for us to have our order taken and for water refills which is definitely needed for the spice levels of the sauce we got. As for the vibe of the restaurant itself, it felt very homey and cozy which I always love in an Asian restaurant. It tasted okay once we were able to dip it in the concentrated sauce. The oysters were good I will give them that. Service was subpar. They juggle around waiters so you don't have a designated person taking care of your table. Because of this, 3 of our orders were mixed up and we had to ask twice to confirm if they were on their way. We didn't receive our orders of chicken wings or quail until we had already finished our food! The waiter offered to pack them to-go since he noticed we were done eating. We also had to ask for every single utensil at separate times including spoons, forks, gloves, and bibs. First, I'll say that the food was good. But the service and 20% auto-grat left a bad taste in my mouth (and no, it wasn't the garlic). We dined 14 people deep yesterday for a friend's bday, which I know can be a lot for the servers, but they *seemed* to have it down. Food and drinks were coming out fast--except for me and my boo. We were the first to order out of everyone, and somehow the food never came. We had to flag down our server three times and were kept fed the same excuse: "oh, your order just takes longer to prep." We got the same thing as everyone else: 2#s of crawfish and wings. My friends were already receiving their second and third rounds of orders, and we'd yet to receive our food. It would have been far more understanding if she just admitted the ticket was never submitted/order got lost. She didn't seem to concerned about it. I got the butter sauce and the secret sauce comes with the snowcrab. It was all very good and a good amount of meat. It was cooked well and easy to peel. It's finally crawfish season so decided to give this place a try. My partner and I came on a Friday night around 8:20pm and there was many people. The hostess put our names on the waitlist and was a 45min to 1hr 15min wait, which I'm not surprised at. But once our table was ready, we were quickly seated, and look at the menu. It does get super loud and crowded but isn't surprising. I got their Thai Tea for my drink and when it came out I was surprised how small it was and could have been a little sweeter. For food, I got 6lb of crawfish (viet-cajun style, w/ 2 potato & 2 corn which as at an extra cost), 6 Vietnamese Style Grilled Oysters, fish sauce chicken wings, and garlic noodles (which is on the secret menu, so definitely ask about that). The crawfish were a nice size, and cooked perfectly. But for some reason they got cold really quickly. I definitely recommend ordering them spicy as I made the mistake of ordering medium spicy level. Though I wished the viet-Cajun was a stronger and the corn was over cooked. The fish sauce chicken were really good, cooked perfectly, and covered the fish sauce! The Vietnamese style grilled oysters were okay, as they were grilled and tops to scallion oil, I'm not a big fan of oysters and they could have been a little bigger. The garlic noodles, were just ramen noodles that were stir fried in oil and garlic, nothing too special and I would have passed on it. Like every seafood place, gloves and bibs were provided. They did have latex gloves for an extra 75 cent and the bibs were made out of a felt material instead of the normal plastic which was nice. The staff were nice, friendly, and happily explained the menu. Though I notice that there no specific server for a certain section. This made it hard to get the staff attention and had to wave them down but it was a Friday night so understandable. Towards the end of the meal, the owner actually came out and went around the restaurant to talk to customers which was a surprise and nice. This restaurant is lovely, well decorated with higher end finishings for a Viet Cajun restaurant. The menu is the most confusing thing and a guessing game to figure out pricing. I had to beg the waiter to explain it all. There's a standard menu, then a tiny wooden menu with market seafood prices. Then a huge colorful menu showing various food entrees. Crawfish was $14 a pound which was my first indication I needed to leave. It's currently 8-9 bucks everywhere else. I started with the salt & pepper "snow crab" which I thought came out beautifully only to discover the waiter placed an order for blue crab. Ok no problem but I definitely would've preferred snow as it's easier for me to get out of the shell. The entree comes with no type of sauce for dipping (everything is a la cart priced). I ask for butter, he brings me the Viet sauce which is subpar at best. And I'm charged MORE. AND Again, waiter error. Crawfish comes. And at $14 it's one dimensional, one flavor only. I've been boiling crawfish since I was a teenager. The crawfish is not purged properly nor do they allow it to soak in real seasonings. WHAT A SCAM!! I see the potential as I noticed many large Asian groups/families dining and if that works for them, then this restaurant isn't for me and that's ok. Service was good but also inadequate: multiple requests for things, then several individuals checking in on you but no one is actually completing the requests. An example is I never got soy sauce, 2-3 requests for silverware, two orders entered wrong, first order took 45 minutes to come out. $170 later...I won't be back. read more

I arrived at 8:20 PM and checked in by 8:26 PM. I was placed on the text message waitlist and after 58 minutes I received a message saying my table was ready. When I went inside, the first hostess told me she just wanted to see if I was still there and then immediately ran off around the restaurant, leaving the host stand. Meanwhile, the second host began seating other people who clearly had not been waiting as long as I had. After 1 hour and 10 minutes, I spoke up again and a third hostess told me the only way I could be seated was if I shared a table with strangers, which made no sense after waiting that long. When I declined, she said I would have to wait for a small table to be cleaned, even though every table was full and I was not given the option to sit at a larger table by myself. I ended up waiting an hour and a half total, and not a single small table opened during the extra 30 minutes I waited. During that time, I watched larger parties get seated ahead of me, and even saw a family of three sitting with nothing but water and empty plates while I was still waiting. What makes this worse is that this is not a five-star restaurant or some upscale place with private booths. It's a basic table-and-chair layout with tables packed inches apart, old chairs without armrests, and a center-floor seating style. There is nothing about the setup that justifies this level of disorganization or wait time. The check-in system is completely disorganized, the staff clearly cannot manage the flow of guests, and the service was extremely poor. It felt like the restaurant only cares about pushing as many people through as possible rather than treating customers fairly. Totally unacceptable experience. read more

After hearing my coworkers talk about crawfish season during a meeting, I knew my friends and I had to get our grubby paws on some crawfish. It was a Saturday evening, so as expected, the restaurant was packed with hungry customers, but fortunately, service was pretty fast, and there was enough seating to go around! I ordered 1lb of the spicy Viet-Cajun flavored Crawfish, with Cajun fries as my side. This was my second time eating Crawfish, and honestly, SO delicious. The seasoning had a nice spicy kick, and wasn't too salty; so much effort into peeling the Crawfish for such tiny joy, but it was worth it. I must give accolades to the Cajun fries as well; I enjoyed them so much that I completely disregarded the ketchup they gave me. It had a good texture, and the portions were generous as well. The fries were perfectly crispy and went so well with the seafood. The servers kept checking up on us even if they didn't have our table which I thought was very nice and thoughtful. We came here on the day everything was closed because people were freaked out about the weather. Service was fantastic. The place was a little cold as in they hadn't turned on the heat or it was taking a long time for it to heat up because it is a big place. We got the noodles with seafood and the shaking beef. I can't believe I never heard of this place until I saw it on the June 28 edition of CBS Sunday Morning which did a story on how this founding family blended the crawfish world with their Vietnamese cuisine. The menu is unbelievable and the food is extraordinary. Wide range of combined seafood and noodles and I was able to sample from my other four family members. The entire wait staff covers all tables so you have several waiters constantly checking in on you which was great. Congratulations to Chef Trong Nguyen on his remarkable restaurant. Craving Crawfish... But Left With Mixed Feelings I had been hearing a lot of buzz about this place and had a major craving for crawfish, so I finally decided to check it out on a Sunday evening. The wait wasn't bad, and the menu definitely got me excited. We ended up ordering 4 lbs of crawfish, but the waitress strongly suggested we go for 5 lbs to take advantage of their "buy 5, get 1 free" deal--sounded like a good idea at the time. We also ordered 2 lbs of shrimp, one corn, sausage, and a Cajun fry basket. I asked if the fry basket was enough for two people and was told, "Oh, it's plenty!"--but let me tell you, it's definitely a one-person portion. The shrimp came out first, served on a saucy plate with the corn and sausage. The sauce it was sitting in was absolutely delicious--the best part of the dish, hands down. There was also a small bowl of what I later found out was the "secret sauce." No one asked if I wanted this sauce or explained it came with an extra charge, so I was pretty surprised to see a $5 fee on the bill for it. That felt a little sneaky. The sausage was bland and tasted boiled, just sliced fancy--definitely nothing to write home about. The corn, though? Super flavorful. I liked it so much I ordered two more, even though they were small and a bit pricey (over a dollar each). As for the shrimp itself, it was a miss for me. Overcooked and hard to peel. The only thing that saved it was that tasty sauce it came in. The "secret sauce" everyone raves about? Meh, not worth the hype or the extra charge. The crawfish, thankfully, had a great flavor. Same goes for the Cajun fries--really tasty. Bonus points for the cool little robot that brought the fries to the table! That was a fun and unexpected touch. But after the food arrived, no one came by to check on us, and we actually needed a few things. Kind of disappointing service-wise. The biggest sticker shock came when the bill arrived. The 5 lbs of crawfish were $60--so I'm guessing that "free" pound was mostly the juice. Also surprising? No wet wipes or hand wipes offered, despite all the extra charges. They do provide gloves and a bib, which is nice, but still. All in all, I'm glad I gave it a try. The flavors were decent in parts, but between the unexpected charges, so-so service, and a few letdowns in the food, I don't think I'll be in a hurry to return. read more

Only had a few day in Houston and I wanted to make sure I got some food here. I called and they had been out of blue crab and Dungeness crab. We had a great experience, it was our first time here. Service was quick and servers were super friendly. T Tran was the friendliest of them all, he was the one who greeted us and I appreciate his upbeat energy, it was contiguous and really help set the tone for the rest of our night. Food was delicious! We ordered raw oysters, garlic butter crawfish, calamari and the garlic egg noodles. The noodles were nothing special but reminds me of simple asian comfort food. Oysters were fresh and the crawfish was huge when we went. Calamari was crispy and flavorful. I wanted to order the honeydew and mango persimmon ice cream because they said they make it in house but unfortunately they were sold out, so I'll just have to try it next time! read more

Our family has an annual crawfish tradition in March and this place never disappoints! They accept reservations and their service is excellent. The ambiance is certainly a step above nearby crawfish cafe, it's casual but you feel like you're at a nicer restaurant. Their spicy flavor this year for crawfish was actually their medium spice level last year. It was hot but tolerable (for me), everyone else enjoyed that level for their crawfish but I stuck with my medium spice level and was happy as a clam. I guess clams are happy here bc that's one seafood option they don't serve. We tried their black pepper shrimp as well which was delicious. The Viet-Cajun butter sauce is just delicious and they also have another tamarind flavor you can try. Fried rice, sides were all great. The food here is so good! It's one of our favorite places in Chinatown. We used to go here a lot more a couple years ago but we live so far that we haven't had the chance to come. This particular visit we came with a few friends who have never been here before. They told us the wait was going to be 30-40 min. but we ended up getting seated fast. Super loud and packed inside this visit so we were pleasantly surprised. My friends ordered 2 lbs. of crawfish each, grilled oysters and shrimp and sausage. We all shared orders of fried rice and the wok egg noodles. Noodles were the best IMO. They were out of Dungeness crab which sucked because we were really looking forward to it so instead we ordered blue crab, one tamarind and one salt/pepper. They were both good, just a lot of work considering. The drink options are limited to beer/wine/sake. I ordered a sake flight but the server didn't even tell me which ones were which. I just received a surprised every time I drank a shot and half of them were not my forte. Our bill was a good $350 because they added gratuity for a party of 6. It was overall a good time. read more

Food was ok Service was not good We had parties of 9, ordered 10 lbs crawfish for adults and 2 food entrees for little kids. Crawfish came out but the food entrees didnt come out 30' after the crawfish. When asked the waiter, they said order got lost. By that time the kids were really hangry. Not even once did the waiter came by during our visit to ask how our visit. I am assuming since our group was big and 18% gratuity were automatic so they dont bother to come and ask, by the time the foods come out, kids got over their hunger and didnt really want to eat. Shout out Vincent and Chef Nino! We ordered 94 oysters and they were top notch. They came freshly shucked on an ice bed with plenty of lemons, hot sauce, cocktail sauce, and crackers. The whole restaurant screamed of family, from the warm greetings to the other parties present, you can tell that this is a family-owned restaurant. This is a nice addition to Houston, I will be back and highly recommend more people come out too! read more
