Cajun Pasta - Shrimp & Crawfish
    Shelly A.

I hope some of the dishes are good, but I experienced too many "off" things to have any interest in returning. (1) A team member was outside smoking directly in front of the entry door. He had to move out of the way for me to approach the door. (2) Pepsi only (3) The pasta I ordered was served dine-in with a plastic fork. No. Just no. I requested a real fork. A short search expedition and quick rinse had to occur. (4) The pasta sauce tasted like Zatarain's in a cream. Maybe that does it for some people, but I'm a hard pass on that. It's not even about the spice; it just doesn't taste good. The crawfish and shrimp in the pasta were overcooked and rubbery. (5) The music at 2pm was pumpin'. I'm sure some people like it or could care less. I prefer a calmer vibe at lunch. It wasn't overly loud, just an odd weekday lunch vibe.

Ordered Crawfish Fried Rice and Crawfish with Zaddy Sauce to go. The crawfish were tasty but small, I was told it is still early in the season. Unfortunately, there were a handful of inedible mushy ones. Fried rice was meh on its own but there was a sauce in the box that made it pretty tasty. Service was good. It's a family friendly dining.

LORD HAVE MERCY! This place slaps... period. The crawfish is fresh, the spices are packed with flavor and not overbearing. I wanted to order everything on the menu but I was so full. Will be returning for more!

I've been to this establishment twice and had their blue crabs both times which were flavorful. crabs were big and meaty. We got about two crabs per pound. Personally, I prefer the house special over the claw daddy sauce but I haven't tried the other two. I've also had their crawfish, which was tasty and full of flavor. They're generous with the truffle garlic butter fries and Parmesan fries and they both meet expectations but it's nothing spectacular. I enjoyed the garlic butter noodles. Excellent service. Staff members are friendly, quick and attentive. They returned to check on us many times to clear the seafood shells and refill our drinks. They packed our crawfish to go for us with bibs, gloves and multiple bags there was no spillage and the car did not smell of Cajun seafood. When I went on the weekend, there was a 30 minute wait and when I went on a weeknight, there was no wait. Restaurant and restroom are clean.

Grilled oysters were ok... I would have liked them cooked d a bit longer. The garlic noodles were good, small portion for the price though. They margarita was good. Food took a while to come out. Ambiance was clean. Would I visit again?... probably not.

Traveling 1,000 miles from Greensboro, NC to Houston, TX just to go to Clawdaddy might sound crazy but it was worth every mile. The seafood was packed with flavor, the frozen watermelon Jolly Rancher daiquiri was so refreshing, and that Michelada with its tangy spices kept me sipping nonstop. Now I'm home and already craving it again. Clawdaddy isn't just a restaurant, it's an experience. Oh, the staff's warmth and hospitality made the entire visit unforgettable. RECOMMENDED!

    Fried fish and fries

I was born in Texas, raised in Louisiana, and worked at several Cajun restaurants. Been in the restaurant industry in general for 10 years. These are my credentials since anyone can just leave reviews nowadays. TLDR: Clawdaddy has great food, reasonable prices, and tasty daiquiris with exceptionally diligent service. I brought my girl here because she's never experienced Viet-Cajun style seafood, nor has had fried fish before. Not to mention she's the pickiest eater in the entire world and simply can't be bothered to eat at times-- I had to make sure where we were going was good. Clawdaddy was perfect. The fried fish is Swai, a problem for some maybe, but to me still a tender, flakey fish that's easy to eat, especially because my girl doesn't like anything "fishy." The batter was crisp and crunchy at the edges, not cornmeal which in my opinion is too grainy. She came back for more which is a huge win in my book. The fries they serve with it are the battered kind, not too thick nor thin with the fluffiest potato inside and also crunchy and crispy. Definitely recommend the fried seafood options. Now the real star-- the crawfish and snow crabs. We went with the Zaddy sauce, which is a combination of the House Special (garlic, butter, Cajun seasoning) and Chef Z's (tangy citrus, garlic butter, Cajun seasoning blend). Mild because my girl will cry if she sees a grain of pepper. There's a lotttt of garlic so if you don't like garlic or you're on a first date or maybe you're just a vampire that's into Cajun food, maybe not opt for this one. It was tasty, but maybe it's the way America has built me but the foundational flavor wasn't as pronounced as I would've liked it. Not a super big deal, but I think I'll go for the house special and dry seasoning instead for more saltiness next time. Blood pressure going up on a Tuesday kind of vibe. The crawfish itself is for sure live. Incredibly juicy and succulent, and for those who aren't able to tell-- simply crack the claw open, and taste the meat. It should be tender, moist, and not at all dry. I felt like the butter must've seeped into the claws somehow considered how juicy they were. Crawfish right now is on the medium size and priced at $9.99/lbs as of February 2025. Now the snow crabs. God, the snow crabs were amazing. Everything the crawfish was, the snow crabs were as well and so much more. Tender, succulent, and the meat was sweet and just perfect. My girl tried it for the first time and agreed that it was wonderful. I'm so damn happy she got to experience snow crabs the way they're meant to be enjoyed. Besides the food, we also got daiquiris, and my girl particularly enjoyed the strawberry. Sweet, ice cold, what more could you ask for to combat the high blood pressure and cholesterol. Alan (Allen?) was our server and he's great. Informative, attentive, quick to remove trash from our table as well as get our refills without checking up on us too much. Definitely knows how to feel out the vibes of his guests. The owner's sister was also equally attentive, and having not initially known her title beforehand, I leaned in and whispered to my girl that she was probably the manager given the work she was putting in. Some managers sit behind the register and call it a day, but Ma'am was helping clear tables, engaging with the customers and asking how everything was, ensuring we get refills whenever the other servers were busy. Incredible team effort, and I definitely see it and respect it. That's how you know they care about their establishment, and that's when there's true value in supporting a small business. Thank you Clawdaddy, we'll be back!

Bring your appetite! We had the friend mushrooms and pickles for appetizers. We ordered a meal for four and had food left over. Potato's were great. Corn was great. The only thing I didn't care for was the sausage. Portions are big. Service was great. They also have multiple TVs and the Astros game on.

    Chantel C.

Stopped in with the family, and im glad we did. We tried the crawfish with the daddy sauce and seafood fried rice and chicken The crawfish had a nice flavor and decent flavor . The wings were crispy and delicious with duck sauce. Trust me, ask for duck sauce. The rice had good flavor. I liked the sauce they gave on the side. Service was great the staff is really personable. The prices are decent. I mean, all seafood is high right now.

OK, so my boyfriend and I went here last night and we ordered a bunch of stuff. We literally ate everything besides our fried rice. I took the fried rice home because we were stuffed and we cleared everything but the fried rice because we didn't have any room left in our tummies.. BUT!!! The food was really good and fresh. All the ladies serving us were very nice. There are TVs and music playing. It's a clean restaurant. I will definitely come back. Did not disappoint at all!! we left with our tummies full! Please don't come here and complain about the service or your food coming out slow. It's literally because they're cooking it fresh!! They don't have their stuff already premade so it takes a little longer so if you're fine with that, I think you will really like this place!!

    Jennifer J.

We love Clawdaddy!! The food is always spot on and the service is second to none. The restaurant has a great vibe to it. The staff is so attentive. I got the boiled snow crab and shrimp in the Mama's sauce. So. Good. The hot Cheeto boudin ball & fried rice were absolutely perfect in every way.

They NEVER answer their phone, EVER... it's always a hassle trying to order. You're better off going in person and waiting half an hour for your food instead of calling ahead. *wanted crawfish which isn't on their online menu that is why I didn't just place the order online* 3rd separate occasion being disappointed with the same issue.

Hot Cheetos soft shell crab sandwich
    Jessica T.

First time coming here and definitely won't be the last! Literally wanted to order one of everything! Got to try the hot Cheetos soft shell crab sandwich with truffle fries (5/5). Definitely recommend! Came with a choice or regular mayo or Cajun mayo. Had to get the Cajun mayo of course! Had a nice kick to it! The pickles really brought it together with the acidity! Loved it all! Also, I had to share half of this because it's a pretty hefty size sandwich! Fried boudin (5/5). Love the crunchy outside but the nice flavors of the inside! Sauce could have used more flavor, but overall, I enjoyed it! Chargrilled oysters (3/5). This could have had more flavor IMO, but I'm glad we got to try it and got half a dozen. I would have liked a little more garlic flavor going on, but overall it was decent. The service was really great, and I love how everyone was super friendly and attentive! I can't wait to come back and try other menu items! Definitely want to come back soon for their crawfish and crab legs!

Something simple that should be an easy win. Unfortunately, everything leaned the same direction: either it was heavy, over-sauced, or overly garlicky. It tasted more like dressed-up frozen food than something thoughtfully prepared. And listen...I don't mind indulgent. But there still has to be balance and fresh food. Fresh like it was raw and delivered today, not fresh like fried in the last 15 mins. When everything is coated, covered, and competing, nothing actually stands out. The drinks didn't help either. They leaned hard on alcohol without much flavor behind them--more "this will get you there" than "this tastes good." Nothing was terrible. But nothing made me want another bite, either. And with seafood, that's kind of the whole point. The atmosphere is friendly, great music, and the service was very attentive. Even the presentation wasn't bad. It just wasn't enough. But at some point, you stop asking what's missing and just accept that it's not landing. I was still hungry so I went next door hoping for a better experience. I want to be clear: It's not bad. I wasn't sure what to expect based on the name of the restaurant, but essentially their seafood options are spectacular. And it feels like an exclusive club because the decor and service are both very much high class and special. We tried the coconut shrimp as the appetizer and really liked it. It was lightly fried and the shrimp was cooked to perfection - not under and not over. I would highly recommend this one to start. Loved it. If you're looking for a fair-priced meal, they have lots of salad and sandwich options. I tried the salmon poke bowl and it was so delicious. The fish was extremely fresh, and all the flavors blended together really well. It was like a healthy party in my mouth. It was great decision. You wanna splurge a bit and live large like YOLO? You gotta get the crab cake. Now, how good can a crab cake be? Well, if you're paying close to $50 for one crab cake, you better believe it's gonna be freaking awesome. And alas, it was. Best crab cake I've ever had in my life, no joke. And I've tried a lot of crab cakes in my many decades of dining out. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant and will be coming back many times. Enjoy! Quick note on parking - plenty of parking in a huge lot shared by many businesses such as Kenny and Ziggy's. Only annoying part is several sections of the lot are designated for specific businesses, so just look for the signs and be willing to park a little bit further away towards Taco Deli and Bluestone.

I was excited to finally try Balboa Surf Club since I drive by it all the time and it's located…read morenear several of my favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in quite some time. We had an 8:00 PM reservation but weren't seated until around 8:30 PM. While delays happen and I was willing to overlook that, the experience only went downhill from there. We ordered Palomas to kick off our Friday night. The drinks took quite a while to arrive, and when they did, they were noticeably watered down. I politely mentioned it to our server, who quickly took them back and brought replacements, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the second round was nearly identical to the first. When I brought it up again, instead of acknowledging the feedback, the server responded by saying it was "just not a sugary drink." That completely missed the point. I wasn't expecting a sweet cocktail--I was pointing out that the drinks tasted diluted and poorly made. What bothered me most wasn't the drinks themselves, but how the feedback was handled. I wasn't looking for free drinks or trying to be difficult. I was simply offering honest feedback, and it felt like my opinion was being dismissed rather than heard. Unfortunately, the food didn't redeem the experience. We ordered several dishes to get a good sense of the menu, and most were overwhelmingly salty. The salt overpowered any other flavors to the point that we couldn't finish some of the dishes. The sushi was the best thing we had, but even that lacked the presentation and quality I would expect at this price point. To be fair, the manager did remove the drinks from our bill as a courtesy, and I appreciate that gesture. However, by that point the damage had already been done. A resolution is only effective when guests feel heard and respected throughout the process. Instead, I felt like I had to defend my opinion and justify my feedback before anyone took it seriously. At the end of the day, a restaurant can be trendy, crowded, and beautifully designed, but none of that matters if the food and service don't deliver. Balboa Surf Club has the atmosphere and location, but in my experience it falls short where it matters most. Overall, I'm glad I finally tried it because I had always been curious, but now I know I won't be back and cannot recommend it. If you're looking for a similar concept, I'd recommend Hudson House. The atmosphere is comparable, but the drinks are consistently well-made, the food is much better, and the service has always been far superior.

There was no wait, since we went pretty early. Around happy hour time! I got an Art Car IPA, which was served very cold and refreshing... about as refreshing as IPAs can be. The staff helped us through the menu, and I decided to go with the shrimp and grits, with the warning that it wasn't the traditional shrimp and grits. It came out rather quickly and I thought it was delicious! The grits were nice, creamy, and flavorful, and the shrimp was very tender.

Another great spot for happy hour bites and bevs! Happy hour is Monday-Friday 5-6:30pm with $1.50…read moregulf oysters, $8 cocktails, and $8 select wines. They also have some food specials. My first happy hour visit I tried their Mississippi-style chicken on a stick (good, but I prefer San Antonio's milanesa version dipped in pickled jalapeno juice). But standouts at Josephine's, for me, are the: :: Smoked redfish dip--we sometimes order two because my boyfriend powers through this app. :: Blue Crab Rice Bowl--a lot of fun flavors going on and it's very filling. Make it an entree. :: And of course, their oysters. I'm an oyster happy hour girlie! Check out my Yelp list of oyster happy hours: https://www.yelp.com/collection/ZhuQbFKQfzO2TR6QFYMc0w/Oyster-Happy-Hour :: The beau loves their pea salad; said it's just like his grandma used to make. I don't fully rec the the jerk fish collars, as this dish has a lot of bones and it's hard to eat. They have indoor and outdoor seating, a great cocktail list--they've got frozen margs and frozen sidecar.

Drinks were great from the martini paired caviar to the Barolo and pork chop. Cacio e Pepe and pizza/flat bread were good. Everything was excellent. Bread service was good. Whatever the butter spread(?) was on the board - Wow! Service was on point for a Sunday dinner. Our server - AJ was great, even though slammed with an 8-top, us and a few more 4-tops. We will be back and ask for AJ again.

At your own risk, I guess. Food was overall average- went with seafood options which were well cooked but nothing to write home about. The grouper has too many sweet elements which I was concerned about when ordering- would have liked some savoury bite in there. Also was disappointed they didn't pack up my leftovers (got lost in communication I guess). The crab cake entree- to me the reads appetizer, which is what we did. But honestly one of the best crab cakes I've had. Sturdy breading but so much flavour and balanced well with the veg/salad it sits on. The 7 layer chocolate cake was perfectly balanced dessert as well. Not too sweet and loved the crispy/crunchy bits.
