This was a really good Chinese buffet, and the little kitty robot it had made this place even better. The quality of the food was better than most Chinese buffets, and they had a lot of variety. I wouldn't expect this gem way over here, especially with a crazy Ross store nearby. I think the location and it being far away are the only real knocks on this place. The patrons were friendly. The staff was very considerate, and the food was delicious. It was so delicious, due to the quality, you really could be full after a second or third round, unlike other restaurants with cheaper food quality, and you find yourself eating several plates just to feel full. This is my favorite American Chinese buffet place. It's a guilty pleasure. I found this place by accident. I was running errands nearby, craving American Chinese, and mostly never know what to order as one person who wants to eat family style. Nowadays, I have a client near E-Star. Omgoodness. Every week I want to eat there but I'm only 5'4"! Not enough basic human body real estate to distribute all that guilty pleasure. So many things made to tasty levels and textures. This is probably one of the cleanest and nicest decorated buffet I've been to in a while. Seating is quick on a weekday but expect some wait during a weekend. There's a little bit of everything in terms of food (American, chinese, dessert, fruit, sushi, salad) and it will definitely get you full. It's a good comfort spot- especially for the price ($20). Obviously don't expect the most authentic cuisine, but I think it's well worth it's value and we'll continue coming here when we're craving some comfort food lol read more

Packed to the brim in a heavily populated area near 290, like everyone had the same bad idea at once. The "highlight" short ribs were either wiped out or burned into charcoal art. The ice cream machine refused to dispense vanilla, and when the worker investigated, his professional solution was for me to wait and hope for a miracle. The selection is pretty typical of Asian buffets and everything was as tasty as AYCEs go. My bride ate a lot of crawfish interestingly enough, and sizes there were inconsistent depending on the batch. The restaurant was extremely noisy, which makes sense given the number of people there. I could hardly hear the people across the table from me. This place is cleaner than most buffets I've been to, which is a huge plus. $17.99 is reasonable for weekend dinner. Average food at best. I understand it's a buffet and food quality is expected to decline, but I don't see any reason to pick this place over any good Asian sit down/takeout restaurant. The food options are very heavy and somehow dense compared to the same food anywhere else. Also, if you want to charge for drinks, hand out special cups or something, but to require someone refilling my drink every half an hour is not practical. We were seated by the cutest cat robot such a fun touch! The food was excellent, everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. The staff was great too! the gentleman handling refills and clearing plates was kind and very attentive. The restaurant itself was spotless, which I really appreciated. For drinks, I had an unsweetened tea (expected an aftertaste but was pleasantly surprised at how smooth and delicious it was!) while my son enjoyed a lemonade. So this weekend I went with a group to go eat there. The hostess asked how many people and we told them 5. I was not eating, I had just eaten before getting there. I had nothing but a water and when the bill came they billed me for a buffet. I told them I didn't eat and the server told us that they can't take it off and that the buffet charge would be taken from the servers pay. The noodles, rice, egg rolls, and even "menudo" had absolutely no flavor (which i'm not surprised because it is a Chinese buffet but regardless). The majority of the sushi was cooked and it was very delicious. I couldn't get enough of their Thai mango salad, so refreshing with a hint of spice. It was the star of the buffet for me. Unlike the other sister spots, they've done a good job at modernizing what would otherwise be a very typical but solid buffet. There are parking spots aplenty and numerous seating options. The staff is robust and a diverse group of Spanish and Mandarin speakers, both young and older. The place looks rather grand upon entrance, especially considering the theme of the restaurant. As a result of how large and spacious everything is, the buffet in turn looks rather small. While it might feel small, the items that are there seem to be pretty good. Food is replenished quickly and the variety is mainly composed of the usual fried / stir fried American-Chinese classics. There is pizza, nuggets, and fries for the kiddos and basic palates. People who seek this stuff out will likely love their spread. Extra thumbs up for the nearly perfectly pan fried dumplings. My money is mainly on their sushi selection. On the weekends there is a solid variety of sushi rolls, nigiri, and a mix of sashimi, beautifully laid out. In most buffets, it's always poorly managed but the presentation seems on point. The quality is on par with an AYCE sushi spot, which is expected for a place like this. This is not my usual wheelhouse for food, but E-Star did a great job of managing my expectations. This place discriminates against Seniors! I went with my 82 year old father. We were sat at a table with a very narrow isle. We asked to be moved to a table with a wider isle. They said no and as my father went to sit he tripped on a high chair. I said "this is what I was afraid of" very politely with a smile on my face. She smiled back and left. Two minutes later we went to get plates and before we could the manager, David, walked up and said "I need you to leave right now." When I asked why he said "please leave!" I was shocked and couldn't understand what we had done. I asked "is this because of my Dad tripping?" and David said "yes, you cannot eat here. Now leave!" We didn't do anything other than politely ask for a different table with a wider aisle. When they said no we didn't complain, we didn't raise our voice, we just said ok and went to sit down. I started off with a plate full of fresh fruit, then moved on to a nice soup and sushi mix. It was also delicious and very fresh. I saw they had two different types of salmon, so I had a few pieces of that to try and stay on the healthy track. The fish was also very fresh and delicious! Well I'm in Houston on business and was looking for something simple and quick and found this place, it was clean and nice inside very well kept and clean, the buffet had so much to offer from seafood, sushi's to pizza and other food, lots of choices with some of my favorites like Kung Po Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Lo Mein. If you're vegetarian, you can get a vegetarian meal, if you have young kids who like pizza and stuff they also have soft serve ice cream, and plenty of dessert choices, My only complaint I have would be the food didn't seem very warm and it was kind of funny because there was a health food inspector there taking the temperatures, and that was kind of his take was the food needed to be hotter. But if you like buffets and you like Chinese food this place Decent stop, I'm not really big into buffets just because of the whole germ thing but that's a Personal thing. We had the legendary Kim Son Vietnamese buffet on our to do list and on a whim we decided to try this place because of the good reviews. Here's a direct comparison between the two: - Kim Son probably has twice as many selections as E-Star - Not all of Kim Son's items were of good quality, some were just ok - All of E-Star's selections were at least above average to really good and unlike Kim Son which only had asian food, E-Star includes some mix of pizza and chicken nuggets. - E-Star's sushi and sashimi were very fresh and so good - E-Star made spring rolls, but didn't wrap them very well compared to other Vietnamese places - Kim Son has people behind the buffet picking out the food to serve you and E-Star let's you pick the food yourself - The real kicker here... E-Star is half the price of Kim Son If you like Vietnamese food, you got to try Kim Son once, but if you want an amazing value of a meal, E-Star wins hands down. We politely asked if we could have the booth she originally seemed to be seating us at, and she said she'd have to check. She came back and said no, because booths are reserved for people who specifically request one. That made absolutely no sense--no one at the front asked if we wanted a booth or a table. They only asked how many people were in our party. Had we known booths were something you had to explicitly ask for, we would have. And if booths are for people who ask, then the host stand should be making that distinction upfront--not arbitrarily deciding when the guest is already being seated. When we asked to speak to someone in charge, the waitress didn't even get a manager--just flagged down another staff member passing by. This second staff member repeated the same line about needing to add us to the waitlist again if we wanted a booth--even though one was already open and originally going to be ours. I refused to wait another 30+ minutes for a booth we were already being led to. This place clearly does not value its customers or believe in a fair, first-come-first-serve system. Instead of accommodating us at an available table, they chose to cram us in the back and be inflexible about an easy solution. They lost a paying customer today. I love a good buffet. That being said, there are not too many of those in town other than some of the great AYCE sushi places. I get my fix when I'm in Vegas. Within the last year or so, I saw this place keep popping up on trusted Yelper's check ins and reviews. Almost 5 stars for a Chinese buffet is unheard of. I had to check out this anomaly for myself. We came at the beginning of dinner time. It sits on the corner of a large shopping center which means plenty of parking. It is a large place with plenty of seating. Not sure about waits at peak time. We were seated right away. There's also the option of using their robot waiter to seat you. It seemed like a big hit with the families with kiddos. They get your drink order as you sit and then you are free to get your food. Customer service was alright. I found it odd that they did not have some of the normal condiments at the table such as soy sauce, sugar, etc. We had to wait to get service and then receive those items. This place is also very clean and well kept. As far the food goes, I had no real complaints. I started off with a round of sushi. Keep in mind this isn't a sushi buffet. As far as I'm concerned, they do it pretty well here. They have a good variety of sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi. For hot food, they have your typical Chinese buffet offerings, but everything was tasty and fresh. I can't honestly say I had anything I didn't like and I feel like I got a little taste of most of the items. For desserts, they have the usual suspects like pudding, jello, random pastries and self serve ice cream. Just enough to cleanse the palette a little bit. Overall, this is probably the best Chinese food buffet in town. Typically I have a buffet of this type and I am good for months before the next cravings hit. I went there on a Friday lunch with some friends and it was very good! The food was fresh and was being cooked around the clock. The ambiance is nice, perhaps the nicest interior of a buffet place I've been to. We came here because of Lenten abstinence of meat on Fridays, and there were plenty of options for us to eat. Perhaps what surprised me most was the crawfish. I'm from Louisiana and buffet crawfish always makes me give a side eye, but as far as buffet crawfish goes, someone back there clearly knows their stuff. Is it the best crawfish? Far from it. But is it good crawfish? I'd say so, and I'd definitely come back here if I needed my crawfish fix that's for certain. Definitely would come back again to try their meat options as well. One of my favorite Asian buffets in town! I feel like E-Star brought all their best cooks here because the food is always really tasty. The interior is also very warm and inviting. They have such a wide variety of food options here. My personal favorite would be the grilled short rib. The meat was so flavorful and juicy. The sushi bar is pretty good too. They have fresh sashimi and rolls that you don't really expect at a buffet. They also have a great selection of fried foods. The crispy calamari is definitely a standout!
