The Cracker Box is the best breakfast spot in town. You cannot go wrong when you have a meal here. I remember when I was younger, my mother would always talk about how amazing the Cracker Box is, and we finally went in my mid teens. I still dream about the first thing I got, and I can't even remember anything except for the sauce; a decadent lavender drizzle. Now, I go often with my brother, friends, or my boyfriend. It is such a delightful experience, with fresh orange juice, and so many fantastic options to choose from. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, and there is no wonder as to why the Cracker Box is always busy. I wanted to like this place but the service isn't great. We sat down and waited for almost ten min until we had someone stop on by and ask us if we wanted something to drink, etc. I'm not sure why? Someone who got sat right after us was seen almost immediately. No coffee refills at all nor were we checked on. I think this place needs a serious re-evaluation on their service. We came here based on the reviews on Yelp. I ordered the chicken fried steak and my husband ordered eggs and bacon. I've had plenty of chicken fried steak after living in TX, and must say this was nothing like any kind of chicken fried steak I've ever had. If you're looking for crispy, breaded, fried CFS, don't order it. The meat was good, was actually a piece of steak; however it seemed to be dipped in egg, as you would French toast, not crispy at all. It just took me by surprise. The sausage gravy was outstanding! The other items were fine, nothing too exciting. The potatoes were interesting, but not rave worthy. I absolutely love this place. We drove from Reno to Tahoe last weekend and needed breakfast. The moment we sat down we had two mugs in front of us getting filled with coffee. I NEVER eat omelettes and I finally found one that I wanted to try. The chili cheese omelette with onions was sooo good. The toast was thick and sour doughy. The pancake was hot and fluffy. The Cracker Box is a breakfast and lunch only place that as other reviews have mentioned has that greasy spoon type of "charm". At a greasy spoon you know what you are going to get, nothing unique or creative but consistent with fast service. The charm of the Cracker Box is they pack you in tight, get you in and out as quickly as possible, serve the breakfast staples and the waitress has no time to describe the menu, your either ready to order or she will be back! To add to their charm they are a cash only establishment, no credit cards allowed, and have a sign at the door that makes it clear you cannot bring Starbucks coffee in. So if this is the type of charm you like in a restaurant then you will definitely enjoy the Cracker Box. We came for breakfast and ordered OJ, coffee, blueberry french toast and a spinach, feta omelette. The food was good and the OJ amazingly delicious. The OJ was fresh squeezed and was the best part of the meal but did not think their coffee was anything special or better then Starbucks! I also felt $9 for 2 pieces of french toast was a bit steep. The french toast was good but was not unique or special. Also they do not have a kids menu which I tend to view as either a decision to not attract families with children, or a profit driven decision since you have to order a full size meal although only 1/4 of it can be eaten! So due to this, that the charm they offer is not what I personally find enjoyable, and with all the great or new breakfast restaurants in CC, not sure would return to the Cracker Box. read more

When it comes to greasy spoons the exterior of this places epitomizes it, but once you walk through the doors and see the clean white counters and tables, and watch the staff hustle around the room to serve the guests occupying every seat in the house, you know they must be doing something different! And it turns out they've been doing that something for years. This past Saturday a buddy and I were coming home from Dayton and needed food in a fierce way! We hit Yelp and it lead us here. The specials board immediately caught my eye... Homemade Hash and Eggs, Crab Cake Benedict, and Triple B Sandwich (found out was Bacon, Basil, and Butternut Squash!), amongst others, all sounded delicious and interesting. After watching the guys sling amazing looking breakfasts from the griddle and a quick look at the menu, I ordered the linguisa, tomato, scallion and cheese omelette, and my friend had the hash special, both served with choice of toast and their house potatoes (which we ordered extra crispy). The omelette was huge and full of big pieces of linguisa, lots of cheese, and tasty veggies, and the potatoes came perfectly done with onions, peppers, and tomatoes mixed in. My buddy said the hash was great too, and the over easy eggs he ordered were perfectly cooked as well. The only slight complaint we had between ourselves was the food could use a bit more seasoning, but there was S&P and hot sauce on the counter, so we were good. We saw other Yelpers giving this place low ratings, and after our experience, we didn't understand why. I think if you go in with the right expectations, this place will deliver in full. The servers are friendly, the place is clean, and the food is tasty. I guess we can only vouch for breakfast, but I wouldn't hesitate to try it again for lunch. read more

"This place must be killing it," remarked the gentleman sitting at the table next to us on a Sunday morning around 9:00 am. We had a 15-minute wait when we first came in - but well worth it. We were all packed in there like sardines - this place is pretty compact - but the food was generously portioned and for 2 big platters of food, the total came out to be $23 plus tip. During the short wait for our food, we watched an endless stream of diners march in and out, waitresses making a parade of freshly squeezed orange juice and the restaurant staff scurrying around to keep the tables bussed, cleaned and the turnaround as quickly as possible. I ordered the 2 eggs over easy with sourdough bread (yummy!), breakfast potatoes and linguica, a type of Portuguese sausage I wanted to try. My friend Nicole got big old platter of huge buttermilk pancakes, a side of the breakfast potatoes and a giant chocolate milk. One-year-old John ate a little bit of everything on our plates and gave it a thumbs up. read more

The breakfast today at the Cracker Box was truly a great, but this may not be a place for you. If you are interested in a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere, you may want to choose elsewhere. If you crave mimosa's, you may want to go to another spot, but if you want some good food in a very friendly environment, then this is the place. A little background for you, my wife and I were part of a group of seven, including three of our grand kids, all of whom are younger than four. So, this isn't a typical group, and yet the service was very friendly. We never wanted for coffee or water, and our juices arrived in a prompt fashion. But we we still haven't gotten to the good part. The food was outstanding. Today they had a Crab Benedict, and the sauce was outstanding. My wife, ever the adventurer, ordered the Sweet Potato pancakes, and we shared both dishes. We were both very happy with both. My son-in-law had an omelette that he enjoys (as he has it every time he goes there), and my daughter had an egg sandwich that looked incredible. So, you've got a friendly crew and good food and the room is very small. So, the drawback will be that there may be a wait. I say, 'get over it'. The wait is worth it. read more

This is a little local restaurant located on Williams street in Carson City. Sometimes you get lucky when searching for your next meal, and with help from the yelp app, we found a gem. It is really not to big, has a consistent local following, and wins best breakfast alot. I decided to go with a tuna salad sandwich with fries. The sandwich was delicious as we're the fries. The restaurant is extremely clean and the service was great. I definitely would return for a future meal. read more

We're doing a short day trip to Carson City this past weekend and wanted to a new breakfast place. Searching Yelp for breakfast palces in town, Craker Box was one of the first ones to pop up and we gave it a go. Parking was kind of interesting. Cracker Box is at the end of a small shopping center and not sure exactly where to park - a few of the spots in front of some of the other tenants had signs that the spots were just onces we figured out where to park - ended up parking in a spot opposite the store fronts but in the same lot, we were good to go. There was a line to the door with no spots to sit inside. My wife put in our name and were told it would be 10 minutes. I went in to use the restroom while we were waiting and noticed the line and thought it would be longer than 10 minuntes, but sure enough it was about that long and we were seated. We were offered drinks immediately and began to peruse the menu. Pretty typical breakfast menu items. I ended up getting the spinch, bacon, tomatoes and cheese omelot - my wife the bacon and eggs. It was really busy and the kitchen was open and you can really everyone working hard. Service was fine and it was kind of fun people watching and watching the servers work. For a rather small place, it had a number of servers and they all seemed to be helping each other out with the tables. We got our food and it looked delicous and plentiful. I asked for salsa for my omelet and it ended up being pico de gallo and fresh out of the fridge so it was cold. Was hesitant to add it to my omelet - got a real pet peeve about cold eggs - but did anyway because I felt bad about asking for it and not using it. The omelette was delicious. The only negative was that there was strip of bacon inside my omellete instead of chopped up. My wife enjoyed her bacon and eggs - 4 slices of bacon - with eggs cooked perfectly. After ordering, I did notice the specials boards. Next time I will pay more attention to that and probably order from there. Overall it was a fun discovery definitely will be back. Oh btw, as others had noted - bring cash. Noticed the sign shortly after sitting down that they only accept case/checks - so be prepared if you plan on coming. read more

Wow oh wow, this place did not disappoint. I was very excited to try after seeing photos of the French toast and the pics matched the taste. Plus they give you HOT syrup. I hot syrup, makes all the difference in the world when having breakfast. Coffee is hot and surprise-surprise they serve cold half & half in a little container. Cracker Box is my favorite go to breakfast place in Carson City! I recommend going in early to catch the sunrise. It is typically less crowded and a lot more quiet than when the Cracker Box is busy. The crowds start to pile in around 8 am and seems it does not last until nearly closing, so going early is best. I like to get the traditional breakfast with bacon, couple eggs, and their soon to be world famous spuds and toast! Service has always been excellent and will always come back to support this amazing locally owned and operated business. 5 stars!!! read more

Friendly staff. What ruined it for us is we had to walk across to Smiths to buy an item just to get some cash. Why? Because its 2022 and they REFUSE to accept cards. They have an ATM inside, who wants to get gouged on those fees? Not me. Food is comparable to any small breakfast place. read more
