I re-looked at the mediocre reviews that Reno C/B has received but, we keep going anyway. Wow, it's always a pleasant surprise. We had the catfish dinner, and it was awesome. Lots of food, served hot with delicious sides. The Cole slaw was perfect as was the fried apples and lots of French fries. Nice dinner salad perfectly prepared. Our server Jessica gave us 5 star service. Too large on the portions, so we sadly did not have room for desert. The prices are reasonable & there are always specials available. The facility was spotlessly clean & the other staff members were over the top friendly. Fortunely, this store was not remodeled in the disastrous re-brand effort. Considering your other breakfast options in Reno, this is top tier baby! I came here to get some real food in my tummy and this hit the spot. As with all Cracker Barrel's the place is clean, the parking lot is clean, the service is quick, the bathrooms are working. My waitress was quick on the orders and coffee refills. I got The Country Boy Breakfast and everything tasted great. The ham was a little hard to cut because it contained a bone and my butter knife wasn't do the job. They have a very nice place with a lot of things to look at and you can also shop if you want while you wait. We had a very nice waitress, she had a name tag that said EM on it. They could elevate their rating by providing their can beer in a cold glass . My canned beer was kind of warm. When I asked for the soup, which I wanted a bowl I was given a cup and it was lukewarm. Apparently she think her potpourri don't stink, but I'm here to go all Mr. Pink in reservoir dogs on her. She really made me not want to tip. She talked to me 4 times, once to take my drink order and food order, once to ask me if I was okay, once to get my to-go order and drop off my check, and then lastly to bring my food to go. I didn't get any refills on my iced tea, which is sacrilege for a server. I get it, all the young kids want to be engineers working hard at kissing Elon's tail. But if you're going to waitress you need to be more on it. To top it all off you didn't give me any utensils or napkins with my to-go order. What kind of sick practical joke is that? I had a feeling she isn't cut out for this work when I asked for over medium eggs and I said "fry them good" and she sneered at me "I don't know what that means, so you're getting over medium eggs" You mean to tell me you work at Cracker Barrel and you don't know what eggs with crispy edges are? Had a 30 minute wait on a Sunday morning which is not unusual but we were finally seated and our waitress quickly appeared to take our drink order. Even though she was very busy with several tables including an 11 person table, she gave us great service. Today we had the catfish special, the Sunday fried chicken special which was a pile of chicken, four large pieces with two sides and you can add a third side for an extra fee, the fried chicken salad, a steak, and the kids sliders special. We had the normal drinks of chocolate milk which my granddaughter loves with the special straw, iced tea and lemonade. The food is always good here; everyone knows that and the service was great today even though they were very busy. The price is very competitive. We did have leftovers which we were happy to take home. Oh, we tried the fried onions appetizer that was a big basket of deep fried onions with a dipping sauce, very good. No room for dessert today. Been wanting to try this place since it opened up and was highly disappointed. I ordered the chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy and grits, and the grilled cheese and fries for my son. The grits were alright, but the main entree was so bad. The biscuits were super dry, chicken fried steak had no seasoning, and the gravy. Y'all, I was so sad. It had no seasoning and the texture was just bad. Like not gravy texture at all. I could've formed it into a shape and it would've held form. Bad. My son didn't even want to eat his grilled cheese. How do you mess up grilled cheese? By not letting it get melty. It was more like toast with slices of American cheese. The location is nice with lots of parking. And the store inside is cool and can find some amazing treats and decor. We intended to go for Mexican but the night went sideways and we were headed to in n out but the line was long, so we decided to try Cracker Barrel. The portions are insane and for your own sake don't look at the calorie counts...yikes. The Nashville hot chicken was indeed spicy which I was surprised by. The skin was so fried that it just felt like a big bite of oil though. Hard to find the actual chicken meat! The honey butter fried chicken was similar. In our group the burger was the best tasting entree. The biscuits were deliciously warm but needed no additional butter, wow. Service was friendly but slow. This past week, my friend and I went to the Crackle Barrel, off interstate 80, at the Keystone exit. I ordered fried catfish, fried & breaded okra, and some turnip greens. It comes with three hushpuppies & cornbread muffins & some biscuits. I am from Arkansas so I absolutely love fried catfish and all the great other 'fixings' like hushpuppies and fried okra. Southern cooked food is hard to find in Reno. My friend had the pot roast with gravy and I believe with potatoes. She loved her dish! The Crackle Barrel is a franchise restaurant that serves delicious southern style country style food. They originally opened in Tennessee in 1969. Driven past many Cracker Barrel. Never tried it. Wife had to fill in at the pharmacy on Rob Drive so thought she would get some food to go. They Have a nice website ordering system. Pretty easy to navigate. They have a pretty good selection. We decided to try quite a few different things. What we ordered: Classic country sampler (meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, fried chicken) for the choice of two sides my wife got coleslaw and mashed potatoes with brown gravy Tuesday special: two pork chops with the choice of two sides (turnip greens, steak fries) Coca-Cola chocolate cake Biscuits and corn muffins included with the dinner Five dollar add-on dinners (meatloaf, and macaroni cheese, southern griddle chicken with mashed potatoes So with the sampler we got to try quite a few different things: chicken and dumplings, meatloaf, fried chicken. Then we got the chicken fried pork. The main thing to take away from this is they do not seem too happy to give enough gravy or sauces . The pork chop dinner had a drizzle of gravy as you could see in the picture. The meatloaf had none, fried chicken I thought came with white gravy, there was none. Even the smoked chicken with mashed potatoes, the mashed potatoes had no gravy. Gravy or sauce is the cheapest thing to make in a restaurant. And can really enhance the food. I've never had mashed potatoes given to me with no gravy.... Even my wife had some gravy on her mashed potatoes and there was not enough. On the bright side, the fried pork chops for thick and juicy and tender. Not quite sure how they could do that because it was not pounded or tenderized. They had a good flavor, but again I needed some more gravy on them. The five dollar take-home dinners are frozen . Just an add-on bonus I guess for the next day. So technically, we got four dinners. I definitely would not call it chicken and dumplings. More like chicken with homemade thick noodles. Nothing even remotely similar to a dumpling. Good flavor. My wife did enjoy the coleslaw. And she said the potatoes taste good. The brown gravy was good (again not enough) the steak fries were mushy. Had a total of five. Not sure if some of the juice from the turnip greens helped to cause this problem. The coleslaw has a separate container, maybe the turnip greens should have their own container so they don't cause everything to be wet? There's a lot of potential here. Some good flavors and good textures. Maybe brown gravy on the mashed potatoes and meatloaf. Add some white gravy on the fried chicken and more gravy on the fried pork. Prices were good, so definitely will try it again. Might just do a sit down dinner, that way we could actually ask for some of the gravy and sauces. But now we know. read more

The food was ordinary I wasn't amazed by the food. I got the fried chicken with honey biscuits and macaroni and cheese with dumplings. I would have been happy going to KFC. The amount of time it took to get just our drinks was lengthy. That's really what gets me is customer service because I seen workers standing around taking and the manager too. They should always help other coworkers when they are in need. The customers should always deserve high customer service. I've never had a dining experience as frustrating as this Cracker Barrel visit. Our waitress took a while to take our order, which was fine because we were still deciding. But after finally ordering, she came back 25 minutes later to tell us she "forgot to click submit," but assured us it was in now and brought cinnamon rolls to go as an apology. Those cinnamon rolls ended up being the only thing we got. We sat for another 45 minutes with absolutely no food, while multiple tables around us came in after us, ate full meals, and left. Our waitress was nowhere to be found - we literally couldn't even ask her to switch the order to to-go because she disappeared. We finally had to flag down a manager. The manager checked and came back to tell us we still had about 25 minutes of people ahead of us. We had already been there for an hour and a half at that point - with nothing but empty stomachs and a to-go box of cinnamon rolls. He handed us a ticket to come back another time, but honestly? I doubt we'll use it. We left starving, irritated, and blown away that a place could be run this poorly. Worst restaurant experience, period. Still love the shopping though. read more

The Reno Cracker Barrel is still gate keeping the biscuits. Our party of 3 had 2 breakfasts and one lunch. The Uncle Herschel's Breakfast specifically says it is supposed to come with biscuits & gravy too. I am tired of begging for .30 cents worth of biscuits. None for anyone. Our total was nearly $70. Came here last night for a quick bite to eat with my husband and daughter and we walked right in no wait at all. Our waitress Mae I believe is her name was absolutely phenomenal she was quick on top of it and very sweet! I got chicken fried chicken and shared with my little with a side of mac n cheese mashed potatoes & fried apples, I always love getting the fried apples they are delicious. My husband got the herb roasted chicken and said it was absolutely delicious!!! We all three got desserts! Overall everything was good and we love all the decorations inside. read more

Update of review from 2 months ago. 5/1/25. My wife wanted to revisit Reno's Cracker Barrel just off the Keystone exit. It was simply a lovely meal. They had completely revamped the menu since we were last there. I selected the dish that tickled my southern longings. Fried chicken and Custard French Toast. OMG, I thought I died and went to heaven it was so good. The chicken had a "crackily crisp coating" covering moist perfectly cooked chicken. So yummy. The service was prompt, accurate and attentive. Our first visit to a Crackle Barrel was a success. While waiting for our table, we had the opportunity to walk through the pleasant gift shop and bought a few treats. I'm looking forward to trying my Bazooka soda and Goo Goos later. We waited about 15 minutes for our table. The hostess was very friendly and sat us at our table and explained the daily specials. Our waiter, Kris, soon came to introduce himself. He was very friendly and checked on us throughout our stay. I signed up for the Rewards program and we received a free sampler. I chose the fried pickles and they did not disappoint! We ordered the Southern Fried Chicken and the Southern Smoked Chicken with Mac N Cheese and Hashbrown Casserole as our two sides. Biscuits were also served with our meal. All were very tasty. The chicken was perfect! There was plenty of food, we brought home the leftovers to have for dinner tonight along with a Peach Cobbler. The pricing is very reasonable for everything we ordered. The restaurant was busy and we were able to see so many other items being served that we look forward to trying on our next visit. read more

This is my first time at this restaurant since it opened here in Reno. I had eaten at one in Texas while traveling a few years back. I was a bit disappointed that I had to walk back up front and ask for a server to come to my table. I sat quietly and waited for about 8-10 minutes, never even acknowledged as four employees walked right on past me. Yes, I had been seated by the host, but it seems there was a miscommunication with a new server. The rest of the meal experience was great! Three steamy hot biscuits with jam, butter, and honey were quick to the table. Since I joined their rewards program, I earned a FREE appetizer: Loaded Tater Tots. Flaky-crusted chicken Pot Pie was creamy inside. And the meatloaf meal I ordered for Takehome will be great for lunch. Just be prepared that it's quite loud in the main fining room. read more

3 strikes and you're out... We waited 4 months to try this again... it will be a VERY long time before we go back. We know many that refuse to go there. The baked potato was not fully baked, the biscuits could be used to resole your shoes, even KFC's are better, the 'crispy' bacon was WAY under cooked. The freshly baked cake was dry, but still good. The waitress was great. We so wanted to love this place, sadly we don't. They don't seem to want to hire someone that really knows how to cook. We've eaten at Cracker Barrels all over the states, the Reno one is the only one that has bad food. The cooks they have had since opening day need to go to cooking school. It's really a shame. Cracker Barrel used to be one of my favorites but my lunch today was just so-so. Typical of a lot of franchises the quality has gone down. Still you get plenty to eat for a small price. The chicken fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The mashed potatoes were dry and not a lot of them. The fried okra was sadly not good... but it also was not greasy. One of the few places open for dinner on Thanksgiving, seemed like half the town found out and it was jammed. They were ready. We waited 20 minutes for a table after being told 30-45. It was easy to kill time in their country store. We also took a lap around the restaurant looking at the early American decor. Vinnie, our server was swift taking our order and the chefs must have caught up. Food was out in 10 minutes time. Vinnie was super efficient and friendly, he did a great job hauling all that food to the table then keeping the glasses filled. Jenna misheard me as she walked by and stopped to make sure all was well. She then returned with two hot biscuits and another refill. I always felt that they serve great food. My biggest complaint is the small portion sizes for the cost. They usually have decent daily specials to help with this. I'm still not happy with the companies past labour practices, but they've made large strides in eliminating discriminatory policies and promoting an equal opportunity atmosphere. There was nothing good, or great, to share about this place, other than the store. My sister and I shared a bacon burger, which on the menu, looked huge! When we received it, a bun, over done patty,, two slightly under done pieces of bacon, nothing else. We had to ask for lettuce, pickles and tomato, as pictured on the menu, with mustard and ketchup. We did get some fries, small amount to share, but they were okay. My husband received a lunch special, meatloaf. One slice, slightly cold, with a dollop of mashed potatoes. This is our third or 4th visit to this Cracker Barrel, and I must say we have yet to be disappointed. This last visit on April 10th, 2025 was probably our best visit yet! Our server, Adam, was easily a Server Superstar! Polite, pleasant, efficient and knowledgeable, you couldn't ask for a better person to have as a Team Member in a fast paced demanding environment like a restaurant. He will most definitely go far. The salad was crisp with the crispy ChickenTenders, and the loaded mashed potatoes were tasty as was the Southern Fried Chicken. SO MUCH FOOD! Delicious biscuits and corn bread too.
