this used to be an absolute favorite spot of mine. i actually had this reciew sitting in my drafts when it closed: "best spot for a late night diner meal. great milkshakes. breakfast served at all times. food is alright, but definitely hits the spot if you're out in the middle of the night." however, with the re-opening, the diner closes at 2pm. there is a bar area that is open until 11, which has a much smaller menu and not the same charm. went for dinner the other night, the food was fine. it was much more of an okay sports bar menu. they were out of some things too. there are only a couple milkshake options. the gold 'n silver shake was amazing, but they don't give you the full diner-style tin anymore! the service was also fine. i'm looking forward to going back to try the re-opened diner side, but with the new hours, i'm not likely to go much anymore. i'm disappointed that a once regular spot of mine is now much less available. reno has very few late night dining options, and now we've lost our best one. read more

Sadly, after reopening under the same name. They could not reproduce the same place. The staff was very friend and helpful. I had heard it was not very good, but wanted to try it myself. So we order BLTAs with sweet potato fries. The fries were actually almost completely burnt. But they were passable and didn't want to send them back, because it already took a very long time and the restaurant was almost empty. We did not tell her that the BLTA was not all that great either. One of the waitresses offered to get us new fries, but we really didn't want to wait. So she spoke with her manager and they offered us free milk shakes to make up for the fries. Now, I have to say, if you are offering something as simple as a milkshake to make up for bad food, it should be the best milkshake ever. It was not! I think they put in a tablespoon of ice cream with milk and whipped cream. To add insult to injury. They did not tell us when we sat down around 1:15pm that they actually closed the entire restaurant at 2 pm! It used to be a 24 hour a day restaurant. Yes, they literally gate off the actual restaurant. Then they have a garage door opening into the bar that serves bar food instead of dinner. It's really too bad. What they need is a good chef/cook. If the J Corporation wants to keep this place open, they really have to do something. I would suggest getting yourselves a decent chef and reaching out to the local Yelp group for their help. The actual restaurant itself was bright and airy. They kept some of the booth format, but refurbished the seats and table tops. So it's still a diner atmosphere, which is fine, it's just not up to 4 or 5 stars. It does still have a small casino area that you don't have to walk through when going to the restaurant. If I could zero stars I would If you were a longtime customer of the old Gold 'N Silver Inn, DO NOT come here expecting the Gold 'N Silver Inn you remember. J Resort bought this longtime Reno mom-and-pop restaurant, closed it for renovations, and reopened it under the same name. Unfortunately, other than the name, the Gold 'N Silver Inn we knew is gone. What bothers me most is keeping the name while apparently abandoning the menu and character that made this place a Reno institution for so many years. I went in expecting at least some connection to the old restaurant and its longtime favorites. Instead, the menu is completely different and the whole experience feels like a typical casino coffee shop. Renovating and changing a restaurant is one thing. But keeping the Gold 'N Silver Inn name creates an expectation that longtime customers are going to find at least some of the food, atmosphere, and tradition that made the original special. That simply wasn't my experience. The original Gold 'N Silver Inn earned its reputation over decades. You can't recreate that history just by putting the same name on the building. If you're going because you miss the old Gold 'N Silver Inn and its menu, save yourself the disappointment. This may have the same name, but it is NOT the same restaurant. DON'T GO HERE until they get better staff!!! Kitchen / food runners lack integrity and the front of house staff is even worse! My girlfriend had an allergic reaction to the avocado toast after requesting no tomatoes. The server said the kitchen put tomatoes on it so she was having them remake it. They obviously just took the tomatoes off and sent it back out since her lips started swelling half way through the meal. After we got home an hour later my girlfriend had a severe stomach ache and threw up violently for about 15 minutes. Our server was one of the worst servers I've ever had. I regret that I gave her $5 on a $45 tab. I'm a bartender at a well known restaurant and have been in the industry for 10 years. It took over ten minutes to get water ( a nice lady came by and felt bad for us ). Finally after AT LEAST 15-20 mins our server came by and talked to us for the first time and took our order. She specifically asked my girlfriend if she wanted her chocolate milk with everything or before, she answered before. My girlfriend asked for no tomatoes on the avocado toast since she has a mild allergy. Things that went wrong: - Server walked by numerous times ( no chocolate milk ) - Food took a long time ( not the biggest deal to me ) - The food runner came out with what looked like my exact order except it had hash browns instead of home fries, walked right past us, tried to deliver it to the table next to us. Complained about table numbers to the guests at that table then went on to try and give it to another table then gave up and went back to the kitchen - 5 mins later, still no food or chocolate milk - Server sees us and says she'll go get chocolate milk - Food finally gets delivered, we are missing the avocado toast, the server said she is having them remake it because they accidentally put tomatoes on it ( we say okay and aren't worried about it ) server also says to my girlfriend, "I'm just not sure how picky you are so I'm having them remake it" as she walks away. This kind of stunned my girlfriend. My order, the steak and eggs had hash browns after all. I didn't really care so I didn't say anything, no one checked in on us anyways. There was a smear of something red on my plate the size of a thumb. My dish had nothing red on it so obviously the food runner wasn't wiping off her hands. - hash browns were burnt black underneath - there was no spoon with the cottage cheese, my girlfriend ate it with her fork while waiting for the rest. - the avocado toast arrives, no toppings at all on it, again dropped off in a rush, my girlfriend told me it was supposed to have onions on it. She decides to eat it since no one checked in on us. - half way through both our dishes, chocolate milk finally gets delivered by our server ( keep in mind our food took 45 mins ), she kind of slammed it onto the table, avoided looking at us, didn't say anything, literally her head turned the other way and walked away in a rush. - my girlfriend says she thinks they just took the tomatoes off the avocado toast when she was half way through because her lips start having a reaction ( I could literally see the swelling ). She also says it tasted sour. I tasted it and also confirmed that it was likely avocados that were under ripe. - another server randomly comes by and slams two dishes onto our table, complaining about how hot the plates were, then readjusting her hands before taking the food to another table. - it was actually comical how bad all the staff were - our server closes out the table next to us, they complain about something, the server response is that they lost 2 chefs in the past couple days - server comes by after I'm done with my plate and gives us the bill - we both want to get out of there so I pay. The server then tries to chat with us briefly as I'm paying (not about our food or experience). I personally hate when service staff try to talk nice to you at the very end to boost up their tip, rather than giving good service the entire time, I can sense it a mile away since I've been in the industry so long. Where was this service and attention during our entire meal?? I know she wasn't that busy because I could view the entire section as well as the server station where she was most the time. She was also walking by us constantly. - my water never got refilled I left thirsty - we leave and go hang out at The Hub by the river, 45 mins later my girlfriend starts to get a really bad stomach ache. We go home and she starts throwing up violently in the bathroom. She didn't eat anything before and felt fine before we ate. We are not sure if it was the tomatoes or the avocados being under ripe or a combination of both. Long story short we are not going back for at least a couple years. read more

I tried the 'new' Gold' N Silver. I enjoyed the original over fifty years. I had read some reviews but anxious to try it for myself. I did find the renewed interior nice but on some level would have liked to have seen a little of the old beloved restaurant. The menu also gave me that same feeling, I could have been in any coffee shop, really wanted to see interesting dishes, old fashioned meals if you like. The food was fine, but didn't feel like a fun outing at a fun locals' favorite place. The waitress was lovely and very attentive and accommodating. I asked for no cheese in my omelet, it came and had cheese, she happily fixed that fast and the new omelet, obviously made by a different cook, was much better looking than the first. Not a fan! A company as big as Jacob's Entertainment shouldn't be this far off. We were quoted 45 minutes was in a restaurant that was only 1/3 full, the food took 45 minutes to come out. We had to ask for everything this, refills, a server, check... The manager was too busy barking orders at people to be bothered with customers. They have forgotten who their customer base is. The menu has such small letters that every table around us complained, seniors can't read that fine print and confusing placement of prices. Hadn't been to the Gold and Silver since renovations so decided to try it for lunch. The place was sparsely occupied. They have remodeled the dining room and it is about triple in size, very open and bright and clean. Even though there was only about 10 tables in use, we waited 30 minutes plus for our meal but in the end we decided it was worth it because you can tell that everything is fresh made and hand cut. We tried a couple of the burgers, the turkey club sandwich and the blueberry crepes. The portions are large and we had to take some to go. All the food was delicious and hot and our service was great. We were constantly checked on. It's been several years since I was there but I will definitely be going back and the prices were very, very reasonable. read more

This was the grand re-opening. The lobby area was clean and inviting. The hostess, Kim, was friendly and helpful. There was a long line and a group from the front of the line left telling everyone else in line that it was a 45 minute wait. That thinned out the crowd, so the line went down to 3 parties. Kim took our names for the list. She said that 45 minutes was not true. She said it would be 15-20 minutes. We were seated within that time frame. The assistant server, Leviathan, was friendly and helpful and took our drink order right away. We didn't get our order taken for at least 15 minutes. Our server, Lori, was friendly. The prices have increased considerably. The new owners have taken a great hometown establishment and made into a cafeteria with NO hometown feel! The food was ordinary. I guess really good food reviews stick in your mind forever even if it was 10 years old. So my husband saw Guy Fieri review their meatloaf one day and since we were going to be in town but just our luck, when we asked, it was a new owner, redone cafe, and a whole different recipe. Noooo. Well, the redone restaurant was nice with a retro cafe ambiance, and our server Kellie was extremely nice, friendly, and helpful. I ordered the breakfast tacos which I liked, it was totally filling. My side hash browns were crispy and the sourdough bread was okay. My husband really liked his omelette, all ingredients inside were fresh and thoroughly cooked like he likes and the side potatoes had green and red bell peppers which he liked but they were not crispy at all. We are 45 year customers. Down from 5 stars to 1 star. Gold 'N Silver reopened after being closed for over a year. They have chosen to block every single handicap parking space with construction equipment and storage bins. The menu has half the number of items It used to and of course the prices have gone up up UP !! They have changed from Coca-Colaa products to Pepsi. Service is beyond slow. It's been 20 minutes since we were seated and they have not come to the table to take our order. They did not have first two menu items I tried to order. They have cut the food portions to one piece of toast & one egg with the breakfast orders. Once ordered, it took 35 minutes for the food to arrive. The only thing the new owner (J's) has accomplished in a year long remodel is showing they have no regard for tradition & have turned this restaurant into an over priced cheesy cafe read more

This was a cute little diner. It definitely feels like it takes you back a few decades. It definitely is The Local Spot. You can tell it has been newly renovated, but it's still kept it old school, back in the day, no frills sort of charm. I cannot remember the name of our waitress. However, she was very nice. I definitely felt for her. Although we were making request that we're being communicated to the kitchen. Almost all of our food orders came out with different issues. Some of us asked for bacon and got sausage. Some of us asked for potatoes without the bell peppers and onions. We got them anyway. Some of us as our egg prepared a certain way. They did not come out that way. After our asking several times for beverage, refills, and napkins, things just were not happening. So, service started out pretty good in the beginning, but towards the end of our meal, it was non-existent. The next group that receded in our waitresses section, they appear to be a large group of frequent local business witches minimum Annette quickly and easy to take down their order. We went, but not handle it. The food was OK. Some of our meal was like warm - cold. What brought it then was an old episode of diners and drive-ins by Guy Fieri. The ambience was perfect for a family breakfast. The hostess station is still working out the kinks. The dining room is only open for breakfast and lunch until 2:00. Terrible but the Jacobs group did buy the whole area to remodel. I ordered the chicken fried steak with a request to put gravy on everything including the baked potato. Nothing better than sausage gravy on anything. I'll miss them until the end of the year and hope they don't mess with the tried and true restaurant/diner offerings but that's too much to hope for, but one must hope they don't change it up a whole lot. read more

I'm glad that the J resort folks kept the spirit of the iconic restaurant/bar with their remodel so decided to give it a try. I'd already heard about the updated menu so that was not a surprise. Our server, Hedy, was with the original restaurant and delightful. However, the food wasn't up to par. The Red burger was two small patties that were not tasty, French fries were not hot nor crispy, and the ranch dressing was awful (likely out of a bottle). The green chili omelette was huge and the sauce was decent, but there was very little cheese (had to look for it) and the bits of jalapeño weren't cooked. The hash browns weren't hot and flavorful. It would be helpful to provide quality ranch dressing (make your own), produce wonderfully hot and crispy fries and hash browns, provide more cheese in omelettes (even if they are a little smaller), and consider providing senior citizen menu options. Also, consider offering locals discounts! read more

The renovations are done and they're stunning. All gambling is in a separate room, and the bar has moved to the former event space. It no longer smells like Grampa smoking in his recliner. After more than a year being closed for renovations after the casino bought out the original private owners, this now subsidiary of "J" falls far short of the service and satisfaction that cradled the original restaurant. Besides revamping the menu and removing the unique dishes (think Mahogany Sauce) that made it a great 24/7 dinner, the upgrade to the dining room is fine and now there's a dedicated bar I first visited after an Aces evening game looking to use the restaurant. Nope. Only the bar is available after lunch. My wife and I had some fries and wings. To be fair, the wings were an upgrade to the original restaurant. We wanted to experience breakfast on Sat. We did arrive "late" around 10:30am. There was a line and we were told it would be a 10 minute wait minimum. Our choice... we walked because we didn't want to wait. Came back this morning and was seated instantly. The hostess was attentive and welcoming, telling us our server (name eludes me) will be with us in a moment. No offer of coffee or drinks No big deal looking at my watch I saw 8 minutes tick away. 8 minutes in service industry parlance is a lifetime. I stood up and saw the waitress rolling silverware. We came in at 7am - this task isn't done at the end of shift yesterday? We waited another couple of minutes and walked. We were never acknowledged by the server. No coffee. There was just one other table seated in the joint. Next to us no less Nope - won't come back What was just a gem of a local diner is now nothing but an arm of corporate casinos looking to keep people around their property. I know I am critical because that is how I was trained. I was the assistant food and beverage manager at Hyatt's second-largest property at the time, the Del Monte Hyatt House in Monterey, and later at San Francisco's Regency on Drumm Street. The manager, Joel, cannot serve as a filler. He needs to step back and manage the employees. The busboy is pretty good at clearing and disinfecting the table within 90 seconds of departure, which should be the goal. The mouth breather blond is clueless and needs direction. Making the rounds with coffee, and no water was asked for or delivered. She needs to refill the coffee pot every 10 minutes and walk the entire restaurant offering refills. All waitstaff, regardless of assignment, should consider all customers "their own." Three guys next to us were being waited on by the heavy-set waiter, but our booth, the next over, was ignored for 30 minutes without coffee. We were assigned an inefficient female waitress who was busier chatting with out-of-towners ("hope your flight goes well" while we were ignored for 30 minutes, and even then, when coffee was brought by the flagged-down manager, he had to go back for half & half. There are FAR TOO MANY WASTED STEPS. TAKE SOMETHING IN AND TAKE SOMETHING OUT, The SW corner chef, tall, glasses, TMCC black hat, is efficient, proficient, and organized. The SE to cooks has none of these qualities. My eggs, sausage, and hash browns were cold. My biscuit was served without butter. My partner's omelet was hot, and so were her hash browns. These all came from the SE cook station. So, once again, the mgr needs to push coffee and water out, while keeping a keen eye on how long the plates sit on the pickup counter after being prepared. Mainly at the SE cook's station. The SW station, with the loan chef, ensures things are done in an orderly manner and picked up promptly. The blond mouth-breather needs to circulate with a fresh and FULL pot of coffee throughout the entire restaurant. The waitstaff needs to attend to all tables as needed. Meanwhile, as locals, WE WILL TRY THE CRACKER BARRELL or continue going to PEG'S, which has none of the issues. Manager manages, and stop being a server. Hostesses, besides showing us to a table with menus, offer water and coffee if the place is buzzing, or better still, DO IT ANYWAY. The busboy needs to ask the customer if he can remove the plates when they are set aside, rather than waiting for the vacant booth. THREE WEEKS IS MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO ANALYZE THE DEFICIENCIES AND M A N A G E THEM. FIRST OPINIONS ARE LASTING OPINIONS. YOU ARE LOSING CUSTOMER BASE WHILE YOUR MANAGER DOES NOT MANAGE, AND FILLS IN AS A WAITER WHEN HE SHOULD BE CRACKING THE WHIP. NOT COMING BACK. You lost me. LOCALS LOST FOREVER. read more
