Went here after a night at the bar right before close. Their staff were very friendly and welcoming. It's a diner style restaurant. I ordered the pancakes and biscuits and gravy. The pancakes were fluffy and moist. The biscuits and gravy tasted like they were made with bacon or ham vs sausage, which I'm not used to. So idk if I'd get those again for that reason.

Natalie, our server, was very friendly and attentive. She was knowledgeable of the menu. The food was excellent. The portions were plentiful. I recommend this restaurant. This is a great place for locals.

If you want to step back in time and experience the nostalgia of good diner experience. This is your spot. My friend ordered the turkey dinner. She raved at the juicy slices of scrumptious turkey. Unfortunately my pork chops were not living up to its reputation. In the past visits I have heard amazing reviews. It was definitely burnt and the sauce was over cooked. The salad was great as was the broccoli. Maybe on my next visit to Reno I will try it again

We ate our Christmas evening meal here. Incredibly slow with very limited wait staff in hand BUT every staff member we did encounter was so kind and friendly, and the food was outstanding! Plus mile-high whipped cream on the hot chocolate!

Same great food, same great service, same great atmosphere, same huge portions, new owners! When the original owner said he was retiring and sold the place to the new owners...then the new owners started hinting about closing it...this town flew into an uproar to defend this iconic restaurant! The new owners heard us and decided to keep it open and intact...for which we're all glad... To recap from my previous review...open 24/7/365 for over 60 years...featured on Diners Drive-Ins And Dives with Guy Fieri on the Food Network...old school coffee shop/diner vibe...I always sit at the counter and the service is still impeccable, the food is delicious, the portions are large...it's my late night go-to...especially for my favorite, biscuits and gravy. The ONLY change that I'm not happy about? The new owners don't let the staff wear their iconic branded t-shirts anymore when they're working. I try to wear mine every time I visit. What more can be said except that we ALL need to continue to support this place so the new owners will have no excuse but to keep it open! Get by there now...and often!

I've been watching DDD and I saw this local gem. The decor is no frills and mid-century diner. Our server was a nice older woman who was super attentive and sweet. I had to try the ground beef pounder and boy was it a lot. The mashed potatoes were to die for and had the red skins which I like, it was creamy, well seasoned, with the perfect balance of smooth and potato chunk. The ground pounder itself was a huge chunk of meat- nice char flavor but could use some salt. The gravy was delish. I did not eat much of it because I was too full from my soup, shake, and wings. We also ordered wings and the garlic parm wings were huge, crispy, but lacked flavor to me. You get hit with the garlic oil and parm but it needs a binder or more seasoning- I asked for a side of the mahogany sauce and tossed my wings in it and they were perfect. I also got a chocolate shake and it was one of the best shakes I've had- came in extra shaker so you basically get two milkshakes for the price of $7.50. I would come back just for the shake alone tbh. I will come back.

    Not so amazing breakfast

I used to love Gold & Silver Inn--great food at great prices. Sadly, it's not what it used to be. I took my 21-year-old son, hoping it would be a solid, affordable option like it was back in the day, but we left disappointed. The food just didn't have the same quality, and the prices weren't the bargain I remembered. Hoping it finds its way back to what made it special.

This is what I pictured getting, but so NOT what we got!

I was on my way back to Sac over the hill coming from Fernley, and I was told I needed to check out the iconic Reno institution, Gold N Silver Inn, that been here for decades. It was featured on TV by that blonde spiky haired buffoon yammer'in on about how good the place was. I don't put a lot of credit in the guy or his crass style, but hey to each their own. I'll make up my own mind after experiencing this Reno "institution". Speaking of institution, that's the immediate feeling I got upon entering the Gold N Silver. Institutional cafeteria setting with the lack of interesting decor and those damn florescent lights! We were told just sit anywhere in the middle area ringed by generic booths. The server was over right away, but wasn't all that friendly, efficient kinda like a Chinese restaurant. I don't need chain restaurant faux friendly, but comm'on smile a little? I browsed the menu before arriving online, so I kind of knew what I'd like to try. I came with one friend, I dropped the rest of my crew at the new In N Out up the street. We both ordered the Sierra Burger ($17.00) a 12 oz (3/4 lb.) burger patty served with cheese and grilled onions on a buttered and toasted French roll. Served with a side salad as my side .... trying to be a bit healthier than having a pile of fries! What I pictured in my mind was far from what we received. The salad was fine, but the burger .... It was served on a soft squishy French type roll with lettuce, tomato and totally unmelted cheese. The meat appeared not to be a single formed 12 oz patty, but mushed together 2 smaller patties. We were so hungry, we just started eating, but after eating some, we both noticed, hey, wasn't this supposed to come with grilled onions? Yeah, they forgot the damn onions on both of the burgers. Grilled onions are my fave part of a burger! Too, late now, we ate half our meals .... but the kitchen should have made it right! Shit, I'd been better off going to the In N Out with the rest of my crew. They add the grilled onions! These burgers were definitely not worth $17.00 bucks each! I'd pay up to $20 bucks for a great burger, but this sure wasn't it! Reno iconic institution my butt, this place needs to just close down or do a total remake. I've run into other places like this, old time places that survive somehow on old customers that just don't wanna change despite better options out there. Geeze, change out that cafeteria florescent lighting! 2 stars is being very generous here!

My aunt, who has lived in Reno for decades, took us to Gold 'N Silver for lunch after telling us a little bit about its history. We gladly wanted to see the place and try the food. I was like going back in time, but clean and well maintained. As we entered we walked past a few old slot machines and were quickly seated by very friendly staff. I should have gotten the name of our waitress, but she was kind, courteous and even brought my brother a taste of the hot sauce served with the Tri tip sandwich before he ordered because he thought it might be too spicy. It was delish! Loved her personality; she genuinely cared and it showed in her service. My pastrami on rye was great, with a homemade-like tasting coleslaw. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, including BLTA, patty melt and a breakfast dish. I would definitley go back the next time we are in Reno.

The food was good here. The restaurant doesn't look like much on the outside. However, a friend who was meeting us for dinner recommended this place as a good one prior to attending a full evening of concerts at the nearby Glow Plaza. Parking was convenient, too. We had a choice of center tables or a side booth, so we chose the booth. The server gave us time to peruse the menu, chat a bit, and then order. Our friend, anticipating the cooler evening temps and the likelihood of a little light rain during the course of the evening concerts said his plan was to order Mac 'n cheese, plus a side of chili and cornbread. Mix 'em together with cheese sprinkles and sour cream, and you've created a generous helping of chili Mac! That sounded good to me! I unabashedly copied his order. The bf opted for the three ground meats shepherds pie. The food was served very quickly, which was great since we were hungry. The chili Mac hit the spot. I don't know how I did it, but I managed to eat it all but the corn bread (but I wrapped it in a napkin for later). I got to have a taste of the shepherds pie...and it was delicious, too. I will definitely be back here for a pre-event meal at future outdoor concerts in the neighborhood.

I think it was mention of the Gold 'N Silver from "Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives" that caught my attention. I tried once to set up a "couples date" here, but Marti demurred about the ambiance and the neighborhood. Then I read about the developer who purchased the property and wondered how long I would have to pay this place a visit. Gayle and I got our chance this morning. We dropped off our granddaughter (who was visiting from Indiana) @RNO at 6 AM and then headed off to Gold N' Silver. This place opened in 1956 and bills itself as the city's "oldest casual restaurant." A couple early observations: - Gold N' Silver is just off Downtown (to the West) and is apparently part of the evolving "Neon Line" neighborhood. Based on the sign on the door and bathroom security, management is very diligent about potential panhandling or "street people" walking in. But visually (at least during the day), the neighborhood looks fine. - The seating/tables and dividers are definitely old school diner, but I found the interior of the restaurant to be clean and well maintained. During out stay, we enjoyed the ambiance. Ad for breakfast: - Our server was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Coffee was refilled regularly and our order was taken promptly and delivered relatively quickly. - The menu (they're open 24 hours) offered lots of options. Breakfast is on the back, with the list of sides on one of the inside pages. - Their Bloody Mary was $6 which Gayle very much enjoyed. - Our breakfast selections were well portioned and delicious. I had eggs, sausage links, fruit, and a biscuit, while Gayle couldn't finish her huge omelet. I'm sure I'll be back (with or without Gayle or our Reno friends). There's nothing like comfort food served at a favorite diner or deli.

UPDATE ... manager fixed it for me. Juat double check everything u get and taste it in the early morning hours. It just gets worse and worse. Staff couldn't even answer what time the daily special starts I got charged full price at 230 of the day of the special. Lasagna was watery no cheese. They look like they slapped some noodles and spaghetti sause together and a bit of cottage cheese. No cheese top. It was alot better before the switch.

When we showed up, we asked if we could sit at a table outside, the guy was a little overwhelmed, he said "I can sit you in 10 mins". I said "can we have this table". OK, but....just know I'll be with you as soon as I get caught up, I'm totally fine with that I said. . He bought us a couple menus to look over. Then a table on the railing with shade opened up, I didn't care about the table was dirty with dishes, so we decided to move. I love to look at the river and watch the people go by. The server said, I'll be over soon! He was never so happy when Sierra showed up to help him out. He came over to our table I said "I hope you don't mind, I moved to be in the shade, I know I'm one of those pain in the ass customers". Then he started joking with me and it was the perfect ice breaker. My server and part owner's name is Casey! He is an awesome guy and such a hard worker to ensure his customers are taken care of. I love that. We had a couple beers, he has quite the selection of beers on tap, he supports the community breweries such as Lead Dog and Revisions. The fries are what I would consider shoe string fries, but maybe slightly thicker. I'm usually not a fan of shoestring fries, but I polished them off easily both times. My parents and aunt are harder to please. They like ingredients that speak for themselves and don't like too much sauces. All 3 of them really enjoyed it and I'm sure they will all be back. They have been looking for a good burger in Reno and I think this was it for them.

Cool Decor and TV's and pool table in the back . Service was great , Avy was our server and she was excellent. I ordered the coconut stout and it was so good , along with that I had the smash burger with onion rings which I heard from a friend and saw reviews that it was great. It didn't disappoint it was very tasty. The onion rings were nice and crispy too. We all enjoyed our food. Will be back to try other stuff and different beer too . Enjoy !!!!

FYI this place closes at 8pm on Sundays-Thursdays, and their menu is reduced drastically. NO WHERE…read moreon their website indicates this. I unfortunately found this out the hard way, going with a group of friends on a Sunday night. Furthermore, the kitchen does last call at 8:30pm. We had a friend arrive shortly after 8:30pm, and the waitress refused to take his order- mind you, it was for a simple smash burger. The waitress said "the kitchen will get mad at you if you place an order", a very unprofessional and rude response. Overall, The food was subpar too, dry hamburgers and overpriced. I used this come to this restaurant when they were open for lunch, and they were great. Friendly service with good food. However they are only open for dinner now. I only recommend this place for their beer.
