I stayed in the hotel next door for nearly 2 weeks in Sept/Oct 2019 and my husband and I visited this restaurant multiple times. AMAZING food, well-priced, fantastic service, all at a great value. It's a hidden cozy place just like the name. Don't miss it for a casual but delicious dinner!
There was an English menu in the window which was helpful for those who don't speak Portuguese. Most nights the waitstaff only spoke Portuguese but with our broken language skills and gestures, we didn't have any problems with communication and everyone was very gracious (my husband is in a wheelchair and like most Lisbon restaurants, there's a big step in so it's not very accessible, but they'd rush up to help hold the door, move chairs, put his wheelchair to the side while we were eating, etc).
Food:
+ Tiger shrimp and risotto: the staff graciously split the dish for us without our asking - 2 very large plump shrimp. This was the most expensive item, due to the shrimp
+ Porc "secrets" on grill: seasoned perfectly, tender, juicy, delicious!
+ Roasted ham appetizer: this is actually presunto (portuguese cured ham, like prosciutto or serrano ham) - great flavor and presentation
+ Squid and mussels with spanish sauce - this was one of our favorites. Big dish of shellfish with flavorful sauce that we mopped up with the bread.
+ Prices for the couvert (the bread/olives/butter placed on table in beginning) are upfront on menu, so wave it away if you don't want it, but the bread was perfect for the sauces. We also really enjoyed the bread, which was much better than other places we've been to (warm, fresh, tasty)
+ Creamed spinach - great portion for the price read more
