I recently had my Lexus leaking oil, so much that I couldn't drive it. Not knowing what was going on, I called AAA to have it towed. but to where? I'd been going to the now gone Pep Boys in West Seattle. After a very brief online search in Yelp I decided on Courtesy tire. With parking and a convenient night drop, the AAA driver and I left it in the Courtesy parking lot. They called me first thing in the morning to let me know it's a rubber cooling hose. By then I'd had a little time to research and knew that I didn't want it replace with a likely to break rubber hose again, but asked if they could use a metal one, which they obliged. It wasn't cheap, but I really think you get what you pay for and I like to support West Seattle businesses. I've since brought in my Honda for a wheel bearing gone bad and once again had a great experience. Can recommend! read more

The aggressive upsell undertaken by the front counter staff was totally off-putting. I brought my car in after making an appointment online for a simple oil change, tire rotation and new windshield wipers. Upon dropping it off, I asked for an estimate of the charges. It being a rather simple job, I was expecting a rather simple answer. Instead, I got a we don't know until we take a look. I left and when I returned I saw my vehicle being serviced in the garage. The counter man said my bill was ready and to come take a look. When I got to the counter he presented me with a bill for over $700. I saw a list of items, none of which included the oil change, tire rotation and wipers. I asked him what this bill was...he said it was the recommended service for my vehicle approaching the 60K mile mark. He urged me to do the service since I was so close to 60K. I told him no and asked him where my real bill was and how much it was going to be...he said he'd prepare it. I asked him how much, he said $224 which I felt was high for the services requested. When he actually prepared the bill it was for $166 which seems about right. It's one thing to say hey, by the way, it's almost time for your 60K maintenance, would you like to see a list and the cost? It's other thing to call you up to the counter under the pretense of showing you your bill and instead showing you a prepared bill for work never requested and then encourage you to have it done. It's clearly SOP for this business. I won't be going back. read more

More than once I've brought a car in with the expectation of a major problem, and then received a call with a simpler less expensive solution. I was told that there were five others already in front of me, but they would get in fixed as soon as they could. They called at 1:15pm to say it was repaired and ready for me to pick it up. The have swapped my tires, done wheel balancing and alignment, repaired tires with plugs more times then I can count with same day service. This month, during a very cold night, rodents got into my car engine and caused some serious damage. I called Courtesy and they helped me coordinate having it towed there after hours. Prior to the tow, a mechanic acquaintance of mine took a peak and let me know that I would probably need to replace the wiring harness which could costs thousands. The staff at Courtesy Tire took it upon themselves to go above and beyond to find the best possible solution. They spent hours researching and locating a part that they thought would fit and eliminate having to replace the harness. The part arrived in a couple of business days and it worked great. I ended up spending under $500 instead of a couple grand because of their knowledge, expertise and outstanding customer care. I didn't even know this place existed until I ended up with a broken valve stem after filling up my tires so I could head out on my honeymoon. Terrible timing. After calling every other local tire shop at 3pm on a Saturday, and being told "No way can we help you today." I was told to try Courtesy Tire. I called and spoke with Kelly who was empathetic to my situation, and told me to come in when I could and he would take care of it. True to his word, he got my valve stem replaced in probably 15-20 minutes, even with a full garage full of cars. Very friendly, honest, reliable, quick, and quality service with a personal touch. Don't miss this gem tucked away just off of the corners of Erskine and Edmunds on California Ave. They tell me they're a full service shop, so I will definitely be bringing my vehicles here for everything. read more

I wanted to work with Courtesy Tire of West Seattle to maintain and repair a 2007 Honda Element. It's my daughter's car, and we work together to make sure it runs and keeps running. It was stalling/rough idle in reverse. Irritating, but that engine requires valve adjustments every 90K miles (or so). No big deal. Takes a couple of hours. Might replace the gaskets. Let's say... 2.5 hours of labor, and a $40 part from FEL. Nope. Courtesy Tire already charged (and we paid) a $175 "Diagnostic Fee" equivalent to more than an hour of labor to spend the five minutes it takes to determine "Valve Adjustment" because it doesn't throw a code, and you diagnose it by listening. The only way you can tell if the valves needs adjusting is by pulling the valve cover and measuring the clearance... which typically results in an immediate adjustment... since you're already in there. Yada yada. So, I would say we were charged $175 for someone to say, "probably needs a valve adjustment." Happens. Not ethical. But it happens. Got a quote for the valve adjustment. It came out to more than $600 with tax. On a four cylinder. Honda. In the quote they listed $106$ for this part: https://www.autozone.com/external-engine/valve-cover-gasket/p/fel-pro-valve-cover-gasket-vs50614r/918095_0_0 Not a similar part or something kinda close... the SAME part from the SAME manufacturer with the SAME part number... which you can buy (same part/same sku) from AutoZone for $39.00. That's a 170% markup. And when I called to ask about why they felt it was a good idea to charge almost $800 for a valve adjustment on a 4-cylinder Honda (when dealers charge $350 all in), I was delivered a patronizing slug of "we only use original parts" and "that's what we charge" and "You can find anything on the internet" and a vacuous defense of a $175 markup "diagnostic fee." I don't understand from the other reviews how folks feel this is quality, fair, or an ethical way to do business. Between that and the $155/hour bench fee... you can do better most other places. How could they do better?: Diagnostic fees come off the cost of the repair if it's done with the service station doing the diagnostics. They should get paid for their time... just not twice. Parts at cost, or parts at cost + 15% service fee for opening the Autozone bag (where do you suppose they get those parts anyways?) Those two things and a less patronizing attitude would have lowered the cost of a valve adjustment by $250.. and they would have had my business and more to come. read more

I've taken my car to this spot several times. And, they did a fantastic job! They repaired my oxygen sensor, motor mounts, purge valve, oil change (thoroughly done), and many more. I couldn't thank them for their excellent work and care on my car. I urge you to book an appointment and leave your by 9am so they can do a thorough diagnostic on your car to give you details. Brought my car in to get an oil change and they called me to say I needed to replace filters and flush transmission. My friends and family all said I paid too much so I looked at top average cost for all and looks like I paid $100 too much. The invoice makes no sense parts they used does not equal what they explain on the invoice. I don't get why the reviews are so good and that is why I based bringing my car into this place. @Kelly S. I had my wheel bearing replaced, tires balanced and rotated and an alignment. As I drove off I felt my vehicle pulling to the left and after hitting a rough patch on the road that my suspension or shocks were not handling it as well as it did previously. In fact it felt like I had no shocks at all and my tires were bouncing up and down. I wasted no time and called courtesy tire with in 6 to 7 mins and returned right away. I informed them of all issues and they said it's because I have frame damage that they couldn't align it properly and that I needed to take it to a frame shop. If that was the case??? Why did y'all continue the work and charge me for it. Also My vehicle didn't previously have frame damage nor has it ever been in a wreck. Less than 50k miles. I also told the mechanics about a tire pressure light that was on and all they did was reset it. They didn't even take it in or put it on the lift to see if there was any issues. The tire pressure light came back on within 10 mins from leaving. I would love to take my vehicle back in so someone could actually look at it and figure out what went wrong with the previous work but I'm sure it would be a waste of my time as the first experience was. read more

I used to come here a lot. But I didn't recognize any of the front staff. Was the business sold? Anyways, I took my car in to get breaks done. After inspection I was called and informed it would be a little over $1000.00 for full all for breaks, transmission flush and oil change. I was a little shocked but ok. Then I came to pick my car up. It was a little over $1700.00. I said that's not was I was quoted. The guy said "that's what I told you". No he did not. Clearly I was taken advantage of because I a women.
