I am not in the habit of leaving reviews. This may honestly be the first time I leave any business a review, but it is so well deserved. I went in because my Lexus LX470 was having a misfire and running super rough. I had just done spark plugs, coils, air flow sensors, catalytic converters, exhaust, all fluids, new everything related to the evap, pcv valve.. you name it, I just got through doing it. I'm leaving out suspension stuff cause that wouldn't be the problem, but my baby got a complete overhaul. So with the misfire I was at a complete loss. I had to take the day off and was trying and testing everything. Finally tapped out and took it to Masters after 8 hours of trying. Unfortunately, they had no openings for another week and a half. The man at the desk in true dad energy sat and trouble shooted with me. We talked about all the things that I had just done and how he would go about diagnosing the problem. He even printed me out diagrams at no charge. He must have talked to me for 30 minutes. I was then able to fix my truck in 20 minutes. There was no manslapaining, no machismo, just the best masculine/dad energy. To say that I would trust them to work on my truck is an understatement. It was an amazing experience. They just happened to be open and fixed my flat free of charge with the owner saying "You'll be back" when I was thanking him for making a bad day better. I sometimes take my car to other closer places to get my oil changed and each time I do the mechanic will tell me I need some major repairs. That is when I take it to Greg's and have them take a look only to find there is nothing wrong with my car and Greg hasn't ever charged me to take that look. Greg and his staff are very trustworthy and professional. They will not try to sell something to you that you don't need. My Mazda 6 was barely running and I took her to Masters to get a quote and see what's going on. I have to say this spot was beyond my expectations. They fixed my car in 4 hours, gave me honest pricing, and really awesome customer service. They gave me a quote and replaced some spark plugs and wiring on my car and when that didn't fix all the problems they even replaced my coil at no cost. I don't write a lot of reviews, but I want to take a few minutes and write this one. Rating Masters Auto Service, and its owners Greg and John does present one challenge, however: how to write the review without sounding either like family or a shill. All I can do is assure you I am neither. I am just a customer, and a new one at that. But the truth is that if there were ten stars, instead of five, I would click ten as my vote. Masters is that good. Masters works on all kinds of cars. But I am probably in a somewhat unique position to know just how good a shop they are because the car I took to them is a treasured 1969 Cutlass convertible, which I've owned a long time, and which I'm now finishing restoring, I suppose you could say for the second time. Old cars are tricky. And this one is 42 years old. Classic car restorations come with lots of problems, having to do with parts, and unexpected, hidden problems. Not to mention issues around knowledge. 1969 was another era in cars. I have owned this car exactly 25 years. For 14 years the Cutlass was my everyday ride. Then I bought a new car, and the Cutlass went it into storage for 6 years. It's been slowly coming back to top shape since then. Lots of mechanics have worked on the Cutlass over the years, in many parts of the country. (Work has taken me all over.) I moved to Seattle nine years ago. Since the Cutlass was put back on the road, there have been a handful of mechanics that have worked on it. One was very good, but he suffered an injury that led to disability, and he no longer turns a wrench. A few were not good, and also of questionable integrity. Recently, I was introduced to Greg and John at Masters. John St. Luke is the master mechanic (no pun intended) who actually worked on my car. And when I say "worked", I mean front to back: complete new suspension, rebuilt carb, electronic ignition (I'm getting old ;), replaced exhaust manifold...and a long list of other minor and not so minor repairs. You get the idea. Extensive. I just picked up my Cutlass from Masters, and it is running like a top. It purrs. The new suspension is fantastic. Front to back it's tight and right. John went so far above and beyond the call of duty on this it's unbelievable. He treated the car like it was his own -or better. My friend has been going to Masters for 20 years. He told me Greg and John are great guys, and that I could trust them completely. I don't know about you, but trusting a mechanic to be both first rate and fair is, at least in my experience, risky business. Well, my friend was right. These guys do absolutely top work, and they are completely fair, and trustworthy. How do I know? Well, for one specific example, a transmission shop did them a favor regarding my car. Basically, the transmission shop was paying off a favor owed to Masters, and they did not charge Masters for their work. And Masters did not charge me a nickel for this. They could have given me a big bill for that one outsourced job on the restoration, and I would not have known. But they passed on the favor to me. That's just how Greg and John are. They are completely honest men. And their shop does superior auto repair. If Yelp had a ten star review, I would click ten stars. Masters is that good. If you're looking for a great auto repair shop, completely trustworthy, with absolutely fair rates, look no further. read more
