Two months ago, I had my break pads and rotors replaced here. I dropped off my car in the morning and was able to pick it up by early afternoon-quick and convenient with reasonable rate. Today, I went back because I started hearing this awful squeaky/grinding sound coming from one of my front tires/brakes. Emmanuel (Owner) put my car up on the lift, took off tire, examined it, and was able to find a small rock caught between the tire and the break. He showed me the rock and where it had lodged itself. After putting everything back together, he handed me my keys and sent me on my way-no charge at all, even though he spent a good 40 minutes fixing it!!! I'm so thankful for his help, his labor, and his precious time. Most importantly thankful for his honesty. He could've easily said I needed new parts, but he didn't. This time, I didn't even have to leave the shop. ( made an appointment yesterday) He took care of my car as soon as he became available. The only thing I didn't like was actually the customers in the small waiting room on their phone playing games with sound on and talking on speaker phone. If you're looking for a shop with a fancy waiting area replete with coffee/magazines, this is not for you. The shop is what it's intended to be, an efficient, affordable, and honest repair service. Duy will encourage you to save money, and if you can buy/bring in brand new parts, he'll install them. If not, he'll order for you and still price below competitors. Not many mechanics offer to do this, and it can save you a ton of $. If you drop your car off, he will do a very thorough free assessment/diagnosis and give you a quote. He'll note all issues, pointing out when you'll need to repair (i.e. "fix this in about 10,000 more miles). It's perfect for those on a budget, or with time constraints - fixing only what needs to be fixed now, based on your wants and finances. My co-workers took their cars here and tipped me off to this shop last year and I was so pleased with the work Duy completed on my car. I just sent my partner here for a head gasket replacement/additional work last week, and they saved a ton (after shopping around, and having a mechanic in Renton blow out their radiator with a pressure test - that sucked). Their rig is running smooth, like brand new, and couldn't be more satisfied with Duy's outstanding customer service, best prices in town, and quality of the actual repairs. My Jeep over heated and my friend recommended this place. Not only did they charge me 500$ with the check engine light still on, but they also drained my air conditioning liquid so I pulled out of the lot and my a/c was broken. I went back in and Duey lost his patience with me and yelled at me to "take it to the Jeep dealership in Renton". When I went to the Jeep dealership I was asked to pay $1,000 up front just to do a "diagnostic". I then went to Jay's garage in Ballard, another friend recommendation. They said all I needed was a couple bucks for a fuse that blew out. A COUPLE BUCKS!! I called Duey and he offered to give me 50$back. It was insulting on top of being hostile and straight up ripping me off. F duey and his shop, and I wouldn't doubt he is running a scam with the Jeep dealership in Renton. Not much to say that other people haven't. Duy is awesome! He's a great mechanic and about as nice of a guy as they come. I've been taking my pick-up there for about 10 years now. Some highlights include: Not replacing things that don't need replaced - I took my truck there once and said, "Will you please tune this up?" When I came to get it the bill was about $100 less than he'd quoted. "Why is this so low?" "Oh, when we got in there it looks like we replaced the xyz the last time, so it was still good." Offering alternatives - When my seat belt didn't work anymore he said, "If I do this for you, I have to get the part from a dealer and it's going to be about $800. If you can find the part, I can put it in for you for about $100." A friend of mine helped me locate it on Amazon from a seller for about $100. Six hundred dollars saved. Going above and beyond to help - I came out to discover that someone had tried to steal my car - ugh. There was no way I was getting it started with the mangled ignition. Duy knows that I live really close so he sent one of his guys over to my house to see if he could get it started and get it to the shop. When he couldn't, Duy arranged for a tow to come get me. Then called salvage yards to locate a used steering column to save me a lot of cash. Dog lover - Yes. He has 'guard dogs'. I know that some people take issue with this, but those dogs are greatly loved, have a nice run behind the shop, and get more attention and better food than a lot of dogs I know that live inside. When they had puppies, he gave me one...who is now a 75lb ball of whirling joy and curiosity, that tries to drag me into the shop to see him every time we walk by. Overall, this is an A++ place. You wait like, 10,000 miles and then check it again. Don't spend money now." He's done everything from oil changes to transmissions for me, and is a super trustworthy guy. Shoutout to Duy and his crew at New Southwest Auto Repair, just around the corner from my studio in White Center. With the clutch problems I've been having (leaking clutch master cylinder, fluid dumping onto ground and leaking under my clutch pedal) I wouldn't have been able to get my car to my usual mechanic, or anywhere else for that matter, without stopping every 20 miles to put more fluid into the master. So I limped it to New Southwest at 10 am this morning, was promised it would definitely get done today, and got it back at 3 pm. New clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, bleeding, test drive and final check for further leaks .....all for very very affordable price! Labor alone at big name shops should've cost that much. These guys wouldn't even take take a tip even though I tried pushing it into the guy's hand who worked on my car. So in lieu of a tip, I'm just going to refer as many nearby friends to do business with them. read more

These guys are awesome. I don't take my car anywhere else. I'm a woman, and this is the first place in town where it doesn't feel like they just see $$$ above my head when they see me coming. None of the bogus,"your Johnson rod needs replacing" crap. They'll tell you what's wrong, they'll make recommendations for how to fix it. They'll work with your budget and help you prioritize. And their pricing is very very fair--I have comparison shopped for bigger jobs like brakes and clutch replacement, etc., and they're on the cheaper side of the price spectrum. On more than one occasion, he has actually talked me out of work I thought it needed, saying it wasn't worth doing on an older car, or to wait and see if it got worse before spending the money. I never have trouble getting my car in the next day. They work really hard to not keep it overnight. I no longer go anywhere else. This is a no frills business. You won't get your coffee and newspaper in a climate controlled waiting room with a tv playing. But you will get your car fixed, and cheaply, without getting ripped off. And if you ask him if it's worth it to do X, Y, or Z, you'll get an honest answer. So if/when you do need to shell out for an expensive repair, you can feel confident that you've made the right decision. read more

This place is awesome, they are very honest and fast! Duy has been fixing our car for few years now and he is great and always has the lowest price! We got a transmission out of a junk yard and after Duy put it in, we found that the transmission wouldn't work unless it was warmed up for 15 minutes, so he REBUILT our transmission for just $700!! the car has been working for 2 years now! He calls us up once in a while to do a quick check up and tops all the fluids at no cost. We had another car just sitting in our yard for 5 year because the engine was busted. we decided to get a new engine since it was unfixable. Duy got and put the engine in just a week and let us pay him in payments with no hesitation at all! Oh, and if he doesn't have time to fix something, or isn't his specialty, like new tires, tow place, auto body or alignments, he recommends you to the best place so you don't have to call around to find out which place to go to. I've brought my car here several times, and they have always been friendly, fast and cheap. Last Saturday afternoon my car died and I had it towed here. They called my an hour later to tell me that I needed a new alternator. They are closed on Sunday, but I was able to pick my car up on Monday around noon (they had to wait for the part; otherwise they would've fixed even earlier!) I've gone to New SW Auto Repair for two major fixes now on my 2001 Toyota and was totally pleased and impressed by their work. When my air conditioner went out, they attempted to find me a used one. Then I had them do a tune-up/general inspection when I had my clutch replaced and the only additional work they recommended was to install new front brake pads. And the price they charged for both repairs was significantly lower than what I paid 10 years ago to have the clutch replaced on my last car! Not only that, but they got the job done in less than two days. I did have to take it back in for a minor adjustment to the brake pads, but they took my car in immediately and had it fixed in less than 10 minutes. Totally awesome! read more
