**Triple check the pricing**. I received an itemized invoice before service and selected the recommended service, and declined additional work. I received a grand total including tax and misc. fees. I called before approving the final total and the staff confirmed that invoice would be my *final* total and the document I signed was not an estimate. I was told no work is done without approval. So I e-signed the invoice as a binding agreement. Later I received an updated invoice, with an additional 90+ dollars. I called and was told that the mechanic "un-declined" services for me. I was calm and respectful and requested clarification. The mechanic I was handed to accused me of trying to make him work for free. I expressed to him that I had been told I had the final total, and I would not have been able to agree to if it had been any more expensive than I was quoted. He was very frustrated with me and told me he should have charged me $270 more, and I should be grateful he gave me a discount. I do not understand how I went from receiving "transparent" pricing which I confirmed, to being accused of being a malicious person. I was not rude and I do not know what I could have done differently to have gotten the information I needed to make an informed decision. For those reading the response, I have an invoice with a final total that shows I did not approve the $270 repair. I edited my review because the owner responded with a lie. Notice there was not an apology for the way I was spoken to, just the owners dismay at my having pointed it out. I spoke with an associate on the phone to confirm my total. I was then charged for something I can prove I declined. I won't worry about proving it to Yelp, I'll be filing the appropriate reports to governing bodies. I have copies of all three invoices. I had hoped it was a mistake but it doesn't seem that way. read more

I have a 2019 Fiat Abarth, manual, and thought it might be hard to find someone to fix it. This place handled it all. Broken window regulator, a safety inspection, and then previously switched my headlights back to factory setting. The previous owner had added some souped up headlight things and I didn't want to keep having to replace them. Now I can just pop in new headlights if needed and be done. Fair prices and I really felt like the employees cared about the reputation of the place. It also felt like they weren't pushing things on me. Fixing cars is hard. I see a lot of good reviews and I wish I was one of them. I went to West Seattle Autoworks a few times a few years ago and then switched because I didn't have the best experience (pushing excessive repairs, they said I needed a drive belt even though they had just replaced 9 mths before, wanted to charge me to assess engine light that came on while it was in their care, poor quality a/c replacement function). I didn't write a review at the time but as an issue has cropped up with one of the pricier repairs they did, it's time to share so people can be aware and decide if they wish to do business with them. I had my a/c compressor replaced at over $1200. Fast forward a few years and it failed. Come to find out through a different shop that they used a cheap, non manufacturer part. (sidenote: It seemed sub-standard based on the functioning, as it never performed at the same strength as my original, the air flow was rather weak from the get-go). I called WSA and spoke with a newer employee, Adam, who was very helpful and who concurred about the part and talked to the owners who offered to redo it for $1200 (what I paid originally). Apparently they are now using original parts which is good but I think they should take more responsibility for using cheap parts in the first place that failed. I think offering to redo it at no cost would have been the right action. I was able to get it done with the correct part at another shop for $800. Very unhappy to have this extra expense that would have been avoidable with better business practices. And very unhappy for the poor business practice that did not take responsibility for the failure. read more

Update: they emailed me for a review. I gave it. When I looked to see, it wasn't there. It was for there website and I noticed they only post 5 star reviews. The review I gave was fair and they didn't post it. Long story short, I paid over $500 to be told I needed a battery and have one put in. I also had to pay for an Uber since they are not running a shuttle because of Covid. I honestly wouldn't have felt comfortable charging that. Just seems like bad business. They charge $280 for 1 hour of diagnostic. It apparently took them an hour to figure out I needed a battery, which is weird because I gave them so much information including error codes already run. I just want to forget about this experience. read more

Worked with them twice now and never will again. Shame on me right? First time I brought my car to them after my clutch overheated and started slipping after a long road trip. I made the appointment and told them explicitly I just wanted a quote for a new clutch system, I already knew it needed to be replaced. They said they needed to look at the car, ok. After their "inspection" I get an invoice for a 100$ inspection fee that states "tech looked around the outside of your clutch and noticed some shavings and residue, along with burnt clutch smell, recommend clutch replacement". They didn't even take the clutch out. I paid them 100$ to tell me what I already knew. I looked at my own clutch and figured that out as well and didn't need to spend 100$ for you to open my hood and close it.. They then quoted me for a clutch job over 3500$ including parts and labor. I got it replaced at the dealership for 2200$ total after that. Second visit, need an oil change and rear brake rotor and pad replacement. Simple enough? Firstly 108$ for an oil change is ridiculous, but they did do that correctly I guess haha. I explicitly told them rear brakes only. They proceed to do full break check. Okay I guess, even though I just had front brakes done and told them that prior to service. They manage to "break" a stud off my front tire due to "excessive rust" while doing their inspection.. tried charging me 160$ for an hour of labor on a single stud lol. Upon me checking out my stud when I picked my vehicle up, there was no rust to be found, only the stud itself was a little stripped but not too bad. And then somehow they "lost" the nut to the stud after I explicitly asked for it back, now after buying a new one, it screwed on fine back to my old stud... they literally make problems then charge crazy money to fix them. Wanted to charge me almost 800$ for new rotors and pads when the dealer will do it for 580$.. I would avoid working with these guys if you can.. they were also super pushy and aggressive on the phone acting like I dont know what I'm talking about. I literally work on this car myself all the time, I came here to save time since I'm busy with work and now I'm just wishing I did the oil and brake checks on my own. im sure they'll respond to this review saying I agreed to have the work done at this rate and did nothing wrong, but take it from me, it's more of a hassle working with this shop than it is helpful. Poor communication & customer service when things get tough. We were customers at WSA for 2 years, & it was always fine for basic maintenance. Sadly, when we had a reoccurring problem with our car after paying them to fix it, we found their customer service & communication to be disappointing and unprofessional. {skipping the long story} When I dropped off our car this morning for further diagnosis -- FULLY intending to pay for the work -- the morning manager called my husband and berated him, not letting him get a word in to explain our situation or our thoughts. I brought my classic truck here for service and couldn't be happier. The appointment was a few weeks out but with covid and owning an old vehicle it was somewhat expected. Once I dropped the truck off I received prompt text messages and notes/emails from Azia regarding the problems with the car, the diagnosis steps, and the solutions. Communication with mechanics was always a big problem for me and West Seattle Autoworks communicated the status and timing every step of the way. Text messaging is such an easy and effective way to communicate auto work. It allowed me read through issues and costs at my own pace rather than feeling a bit rushed over the phone or in person. They provided up-front pricing for the diagnostics, up-front pricing for the repairs, and Nate, the mechanic, added thorough notes on both via their website. They completed the work ahead of schedule and the work itself was great - solving two issues I brought the truck in for, one of which a previous mechanic couldn't fix - and they were upfront about future issues I might see with solid recommendations on solutions. If you need to speak to the mechanic, this is not the place and pot customer service (broken promises). This place literally refused to allow me to speak to the Mechanic about my car problems. I was absolutely in shock as I left my house at 6 AM to get to the parking lot at 7 AM in hopes that I can speak to the mechanic at 8 AM when they opened (or at least when they got to my vehicle but they said I could not even speak to them on the phone). In addition, when I made the appointment I told them I was coming from an hour away and would not be taking an Uber back-and-forth unless they needed my car for several days. They said they would give me an idea first thing in the morning so that I can determine if I needed an Uber home. At 8am when they opened they refused to follow through on that commitment. I would have to wait until half way through the day before they can tell me if they needed my car for a few days. This is awful customer service with broken promises. read more

Came in for a few things like the yearly checkup and break check. They need to say right up front it's going to take at least 3 days before we can take a look at your car. I had a rodent get underneath the hood of my car and chew some wiring. Check engine light came on and my car (Mini Cooper) was misfiring. Took it to these wonderful people. As soon as I walked into the door I was greeted. The receptionist was very nice and helpful and she had such a positive attitude. I let her know I was in no hurry to get my car back and they could keep my car "low priority" for the week. She called back the next day and let me know it was done!! Very prompt service! And to make it better, the price to fix it wasn't bad at all. Usually I take my car to a European dealership or my mini dealers for servicing but I think I may have found my new shop! Car broke down for a right before a 2 week vaca, it sounded like the alternator to me. I found this shop on yelp and had it towed over around 2pm. Turns out it was the alternator and they replaced and and I had my car back the next day about 2pm. I would go back if my car has any new issues and would recommend. I found this auto shop through my AAA app, although the app didn't seem to communicate with their site and it didn't successfully book my appointment. Thankfully when I called a couple days later, they were able to get my car in the following day. They have great communication and customer service. Alex explained what was going on and what would be needed, and their estimate ended up being higher than the total. I had detailed updates each step of the way so I understood what they were going to do, what they found, and how much everything would cost. I'm so happy to have found this place! I just moved from the Bay Area last year and finding a new mechanic is like finding a new boyfriend (it's impossible to tell who's decent until you try them). I tried a big name brand mechanic down the street and was extremely disappointed with their lack of service and price gouging. When my car's air conditioner broke down, I discovered West Seattle Autoworks and was not disappointed at all. West Seattle Autoworks was extremely communicative and detailed via text and offered detailed estimates right away. I also appreciated how they adhere to social distancing at this time and have a great system in place for contactless drop off and pick up. All things considered with my air conditioner (parts needed to be ordered, etc), they were able to order special parts and serviced my vehicle quickly. The other auto shop wouldn't even look at my car when he realized he had to order special parts. Pricing was very fair and service was very friendly. I'll definitely be using this shop for all of my vehicle needs in the future. read more

I think I found a new shop for major service on my truck; these guys are awesome! I used to take mine to Greg's in downtown Seattle and later Bellevue but the service and costs went downhill so I took it to a few other places, including Toyota of Seattle (the stealership), but was never thrilled. I contacted West Seattle Autoworks after reading Yelp reviews and because I live in West Seattle about replacing an alternator drive belt pulley with a customer supplied part and they said sure. Their communication was quick and to the point; the charges estimated were accurate and they were more than happy to answer unrelated questions. I called on a Friday for a verbal estimate on 2 rear wheel bearings for an older Scion. The very nice person who spoke with me quoted a full one thousand dollars (!!) less than the Toyota dealership. (And I like the Toyota service department, but c'mon...) We had the bearings replaced on the following Monday for the price quoted by phone. I have been meaning to update this review - shortly after I wrote my original (maybe a week+) my car began to act up again. I called the next morning to let them know I was experiencing the same issue as before and I was able to drop it off within the hour and had it back the same day by 5PM (they provided a warranty on the parts due to the knowledge that some can be faulty, so it was switched out). I really wanted to rate these guys higher since they are close by my house and I was looking for a local mechanic that I could rely on. We purchased a used SUV that ended up being a huge piece of crap so we took it to them to get an assessment of what needed to be fixed. They came back with a list that was about $4000 in total, which I couldn't do in one shot. I had them fix a fan blade and serpentine belt which they charged almost $700 for. I wanted to do one other smaller repair on the doors before the big repair but when I asked them what that would cost they told me "It's included in the main quote amount". He wouldn't break it out for me so I could do one or two things at a time. The main repair was going to cost about $2700. Before I did that my neighbor mentioned he has a friend that runs a shop down in Burien and to give him a try. I did, and was very glad for it. That $2700 job ended up really only costing about $1500. The main part that WSA was going to charge me $900 for only cost $300. It makes me wish I had not done the fan blade and belt because I think I got royally overcharged. On the plus side, they did diagnose just about everything that was wrong with the car and they did it correctly. Also, they were very nice. The negative, and it's a huge negative, is that their prices were so incredibly overinflated that I don't think I can ever go back there. I totally get that they will have a mark-up on parts, because they are a business and businesses need to make money, but 300%??? That's crazy. On top of that their labor charge is something like $110 an hour. I will still be on the lookout for a repair shop closer than Burien as I don't think I have found it just yet. read more

I cannot tell you how pleasant it is to be able to have good quality service. I was first introduced to West Seattle Auto works one day when another shop was too busy. I was so pleased with the service that I received that day that I have been back ever since. Chris is amazing, he is friendly and very personable; he goes way above and beyond to make you smile...he surely smiles all the time. My most recent experience was yesterday when I dropped by to ask Chris for a good time within the next couple of days to bring my car in to fix a slow-leak in one of my tires. Now, Chris had just sat down in another car and started the engine; I do not know if he was about to leave or just beginning to work on the car but he said " Why don't I just look at it now?" I was shocked! Chris not only looked at the nail but repaired the leak all at no charge as he offered up a warm smile. Another experience that I had was a few weeks ago when I came in because I had a flat tire and several of the lug nuts were stripped when the kind strangers downtown assisted in putting on the spare. I had a time constraint and could not wait until later that afternoon for a new tire, so Chris shopped around for the best tire deal for me and gave me thorough directions on how to get there. After getting back in from the tire place, I called Chris back to thank him once again for seeing me on such a short notice and also for working on the car.I told him that I was told I needed new struts; Chris immediately said "Do not waste your money on struts, you don't need them but don't worry, I will look at it the next time you bring your car in" I was thrilled that I did not have to spend that $600 that the tire place quoted me. Have been driving around for a few months leaking oil. Knew the issue was not going to be kind to my wallet, but more scary was taking my car to someplace that might not do the job right and force me into something I'm trying to avoid right now...a car payment. Based on the universally positive reviews for WSAw, I made arrangements to bring my car in. Exchanged emails with Todd and got an idea of what to expect. They are busy, so took a bit of time to get on the calendar. I just got my car back and was really impressed by the whole crew in the shop. Nice guys who want to do good work and please the customer. Amazing the number of businesses that don't really grasp this concept. These guys are welcoming and it is a pleasure to do business with them.
