You can certainly trust him to tell you when maintenance or repairs are worth it or not - they won't upsell you and will help you make the right decision. Tomoko's was recommended to me as honest and trustworthy with reasonable prices. My experiences aligned completely. I called before my oil change light came on and Tony told me to wait until it started lighting up. I was immediately impressed because he could've made money off me but told me to wait. A few months later, the light came on and I made an appointment. It's difficult to get an appointment quickly but I didn't need one right away so it worked out. I think he was scheduling a couple weeks out. The day of, I dropped my car off around 9am and came to pick it up around 4pm. Plan to leave your car as there isn't really a waiting area. If you walk about 10-15min you can find a coffee shop. It's also on a bus line if you want to take transit somewhere. Tony is very friendly. The oil change was reasonably priced at $88 before taxes. So this may seem strange, but I am posting a review before they even work on my car. When I called to request pricing and make an appointment, I left a message which told me they would call back within 20 minutes. I have had need to call them three times and every time they call back in that timeframe. The owner could not have been more helpful. He advised me on what I could and should do with my vehicle and how much money I should perhaps spend. He advised even on purchasing a new car if that was an option for me. The reviews are true. Tony is a gem. Stopped by because I've had a few minor issues with my toyota hybrid and wanted to check in on his pricing for a coolant change. He said don't do it. He'll change them on cars because people request it and cars will have issues later. He even says, check the bottle, it says lifetime warranty on toyota bottles. So one, it shows his experience. Then I have an exhaust pipe attachment that's broken. Showed him pictures, then he took a quick peak on my car. Said it's fixable and said it should be less than $100, everyone else quoted me upwards of $150. Lastly, I have a noise when turning on a cold start. Pretty inconsistent. He told me to wait until it's more consistent because they can bring it in, lift the car up and without the load, it's hard to predict especially when everything with the car looks fine. What an obvious and honest answer. I've read so many reviews on mechanics just fixing parts and it doesnt address the issue. I hope this helps anyone looking for a mechanic. I'm now willing to drive 1 hr for tony. If you've been on youtube, this feels like the seattle economic version of the car care nut. Honest and Mechanic usually don't go together, EXCEPT at Tomoko's. Booked an appointment with Tony after reading all the good reviews, sure enough, Tony didn't disappoint. Spoke to Tony on the phone, he instantly made me feel like we are old friends. (Tip: They are very busy so always book weeks in advance.) It's an unassuming warehouse right by the Costco bridge. Talked to Tony about the timing belt and water pump service for my 06 Pilot. He inspected the car and notified me there was no need to replace both of those items yet. (Dealerships are CONSTANTLY asking ppl to get it done, usually for a hefty fee.) he took care of the oil change, also had my rear brake pads and rotors replaced. It's difficult for me to trust dealerships and mechanics, I've had quite a few bad experiences but Tony... he's about as honest as they come!!!!! My experience at Tomoko Auto Repair was amazing. Great communication, fair prices, and their years of experience means they've seen your car's problem before. My old Lexus was making a noise and they knew exactly what it was. They sourced the OEM parts and provided some pressure free recommendations for some things to do while they had the engine apart, essentially saving the labor cost of having to inevitably go back in there. About a month ago the check engine light came on and I took my Toyota Camry to see Tony to find out what the problem was, mostly because I had completely lost faith in the Toyota of Seattle. This would've been a perfect opportunity for him to charge me a lot of money but instead he told me the only reason the check engine light is on is because the Toyota dealership forgot to reset it, so he reset it for me then he sent me away, no charge. Tony is truly one of the best mechanics in Seattle. I've been to five different shops in Seattle with different cars that I've had and so many places have a quota to nickel and dime the shit out of you. Tony is not that kind of person. He'll prioritize the safety of your car and then recommend the repairs you need to make in order of importance. My wheel bearing was practically coming apart, Tony said I need to fix that ASAP and quoted a price $300 lower than another big name shop. The same big name shop that will not be named said I need to make $3400 worth of repairs on a 18 year old car. Tony checked it out and said there weren't even tool marks or smudges to show that they properly checked those parts for wear. Cherry on top, turns out parts of the bearings were so worn that they fused with some metal. Tony took the extra few hours of blow torching to get the bearings off and didn't even charge me the extra hours of labor. Tony is your go to guy if you want an honest mechanic that isn't looking to upgrade or replace every part in your car but still ensures that your car will be safe for you and others on the road. read more

I have never met a mechanic as honest and accountable like Tony. Yes, he likes to talk a lot and tell you lengthy customer stories when you drop off and pick up your car like a good uncle. But oh wow, this guy delivers when he said he will deliver (in my case, changing oil and some brake pads and rotor only took the shop a few hours after diagnosis in the morning). If the parts he needs to order does not arrive within the working day, he said he would have stayed the night to work on the car so the customer will have their car the next morning. Who does that!? Other big shop would have no problem asking you to wait for an extra 5 days so the customer will be negatively impacted. Not this shop. Tony bends over backward for his customers and he is truly reliable. I made my appointment to get my car fixed a few weeks ago and had to wait for 3-4 weeks to get my car in. This is a review coming in late. Service was great back when I got my car done in Aug 2019. I needed to put two parts on my 2010 Odyssey. A transmission cooler and PS steering cooler. I was a bit nervous when visiting the first time, had a hard time look for the location. None the less, the car was repaired very well. Tony took extra care to align my bumper where it was missing clips. The car came back with new parts and looking better than before. I don't know why I even use other mechanics over the years. I took my Honda van to Tomoko Auto Care Center for a basic oil and filter change. Tony and team did a great job, and interestingly my van seems to run and sound better now. I appreciated the fair price for the service, especially compared to the big dealership service center I used in the past. For you new customers, don't be put off by the facility. There's not a fancy waiting area, and it does not have a big sign out front to help you find the exact location. If you drive by the shop (like I did), flip around and grab the street parking out front. The other reviews are real! Honestly though, Tony is the best at what he does. He's honest, doesn't recommend things you don't need, and finds ways to save you money. Rather than selling me the parts I needed at some obscene markup, Tony gave me the exact part numbers I needed for a repair so I could order them myself. I know most mechanics let you bring your own parts, but they'll usually caution that they won't provide warranty work if the parts aren't from them--not Tony. He also refused to charge me for the diagnostic work, and was able to do a job that other shops turned away for being too labor intensive. read more

Thank goodness for Tomoko -- he's the best! Love his honesty plus he is hilarious. He saved us so much stress. Our RAV4 was driving just fine. Went to the dealer to get some recalls done and the dealer said we should get our shocks/struts down -- a repair worth more than our car! We were baffled because our RAV4 drives just great, doesn't seem like there is any shock/strut issue. Tomoko wisely (and with great humor) explained that's a standard recommendation for a car of our age and mileage, whether needed or not. Whew -- talking with Tomoko made our day. I have an older 2007 Lexus ES. When I went to the Toyota dealership on the eastside, they tried to scare me on a engine seal repair because it was covered in oil. It was $6K for the repair of a used car that I bought for $8K. When I asked how bad was the leak, the service advisor didn't want to tell me. That's when I researched and found Tony. Love the guy. He is super honest and he asked me to bring my car in. He looked at it and didn't even charge me. He said that unless it leaked alot more, it's not worth the money to fix it. And if he did fix it, it'd be alot cheaper. I really appreciate the honesty and integrity. I will definitely be bring my car here for service even though it is abit out of the way for me. Tony is the best (and most honest) auto mechanic in Seattle, hands down! Yesterday, my alternator failed, stranding me in the middle of Aloha Ave. S.. I had my Toyota Sienna towed to Tony's shop after calling two other very respectable shops and getting quotes for triple the amount Tony quoted me. The tow truck driver and I arrived at Tony's shop in the late afternoon and Tony had me back on the road the next morning. He was busy but he was very gracious to squeeze me in. I had a great conversation with Tony and immediately knew I could trust him, which is saying a lot because my father was a mechanic and I'm familiar with the games some repair shops play, plus I'm one of the most cynical people you'll ever meet. Anyway, I can't say enough good things about Tony and will definitely be using him for all future repairs. He is a magician and an all-around good person! read more

I've taken my 2005 Prius to Tony for two things: - replacing my stolen catalytic converter with an aftermarket converter - replacing my hybrid battery with an OEM hybrid battery Tony did an excellent job both times and the price was more than fair. I trust his advice. For the OEM hybrid battery replace, he recommended that I check my 12V battery before taking my car into his shop to get the hybrid battery replaced. The 12V battery was definitely dead. I replaced it and got a new error code on my scanner which pinpointed the exact OEM cell. Since the hybrid battery had 280k miles on it, I decided to have Tony replace it. He noticed a piece of paper in the hybrid battery box that was a checklist for the Toyota mechanics for checking the returned core. It said aftermarket battery on it. He recommended that I check with with the dealership on whether this battery was an aftermarket battery or not. He says that the battery had all the Toyota warning stickers and looked legit but it doesn't hurt to check. Tony definitely looks out for his customers. read more

I have been going to Tony for the past 2 years or so. He has been nothing but the most honest mechanic I have known. He will tell you exactly what needs to be done with your car to keep it running without trying to oversell you on services that you don't need yet. He will give you honest feedback on what he thinks you should do about your car, which in some cases might mean selling your car if you don't want to deal with mounting bills. Twice, I have stopped by with a burnt out light bulb, and he has replaced them free of charge. I often wait to write reviews just to make sure no surprises arise after taking my car in somewhere new. I took my car into Tony about a month ago based solely on his Yelp reviews because I'd just inherited an older 2004 Lexis RX330 and noticed it was leaking coolant. After taking into Tony Tomako he checked it over, saw no leaked in the hoses, refilled the coolant explained that the car had no problems and just sent me on my way, no charge. I was dumbfounded. I came here based on all the reviews. Sure thing, it was the right decision. Tony is very personable and an all-around awesome guy. I asked for three things: tires sensor, squeaks coming from my AC and an oil change. With the tires sensor, he said for the best outcome, I should go to the dealer. For the squeaks, it completely went away. Last, I needed synthetic oil and he completed that in a timely manner. My car was brought in the morning and completed by the evening. He did not charge me for assessing the tire sensors or stopping the squeaks. For other auto shops, they would wait for you to agree to diagnosing fees before they even look at your car. The cost of the oil change was very reasonable. Overall, Tony is honest and his price is fair (maybe a bit too good). I am the kind of person that gets somewhat weary going to body shops. I ask myself, "Are they going to cheat me? Could I have gotten a better price elsewhere?" With Tony, I feel like he's a friend helping out and here to ease my worries. I absolutely recommend Tony.
