I have been to this shop twice, mainly because my brother recommended them and because my regular mechanic (worth his weight in gold) was too busy to take me. The first time I went in for a catalytic converter issue and it took three visits to get it right. They made good on their word--sort of--but it introduced a theme with them that I encountered later: the good cop/bad cop routine between the mechanic, Kenny, and the front desk guy, Wayne. Wayne never seemed to take any accountability, it was always a Kenny thing. That's not what I call accountability. The second, and now last, time I took my car in I had them repair a bunch of things that led to my car stalling in traffic. I dropped 3 thousand dollars on repairs that lasted me 30 miles. The brand new hose to my radiator came off and fouled the motor. Of course, even though they had done all kinds of work on the cars they day before, none of this was their fault. So, to get my car back into drivable condition, it cost me another 4 thousand dollars. Had I known beforehand that I was going to get stuck spending 7 thousand dollars on my car, I would have probably taken a different course. When I took my car to my Real Mechanic, he said that I probably had a legal case against them (though impossible to prosecute) and that my engine "sounded like shit". They said the hose looked large and was probably cranked down too hard, and that was what led to the radiator flange breaking off. Oh, and Lioe's kept my car for three weeks while they were trying to fix it. If I had known that they would take that long (and their communication was terrible) then I would have been out a car just as long as waiting for my Real Mechanic to get me in. At this point I don't trust Lioe's enough to take the car back and have it serviced under warranty, should it have engine troubles. How's that for a spot to be in? They should fix it, but I don't think Kenny is either skilled enough, or scrupulous enough, to properly fix it. Feeling quite burned by the whole experience. read more

Absolutely awful. Do not take your car here. I paid 8k for a 150 mile service and repairs and the next day the car stalled going up a hill. They insisted they "couldn't replicate the problem" and it had nothing to do with their work. Draw your own conclusions. I also showed my invoice to 3 other mechanics and they all agreed Lioe's inflated every charge they could out of the job. read more

Called for an urgent diagnosis of a rattling sound in my car after an accident which a different repair shop had handled and told me everything was fine. I needed to prove to my insurance that there was still an issue, and that it was related to the car accident. Lioe's fit me in their schedule on the same day, got the issue diagnosed quickly (about a 2 hour wait), and got me a receipt for car insurance reimbursement. The price for their service was reasonable (less than $100) and they didn't try to get more out of me or pressure me for more. Local Beacon Hill repair shop. One of the few in the area not driven out and closed by the pandemic and terrible city government policies. Lucky to get quick fast service July 28 2022 after my check engine light came on. Glad I knew of this shop from 20 years of living in the neighborhood instead of searching for one online, because the O'Reilly's guy on Rainier who did a reading (but ironically said his computer was broken so he could not do a printout) didn't even know about this shop. Quick and communicative! Called before I dropped my car off for an oil change and they finished in in just under an hour.

Someone cracked our gas tank door open and broke it, scratching the paint in the process. Lioe's saw me on short notice, quickly diagnosed the problem, and ordered the part I needed. They also gave me a temporary fix to keep the gas door closed. The Toyota dealership quoted me $190 just for a diagnosis! Within a week, Lioe's fixed my car and also gave me the touch up paint. I finally got around to trying them after multiple visits to my usual Firestone and asking questions at a few local auto part shops. It's a real old school place in a competitive street parking area so just note that if you plan to try them out. I took my '96 Ford Contour 5-spd here about 6 months ago to see if they could figure out my backup light fix and I think possibly check idle vacuum hose operation. The lady I tracked down (I think Priscilla?) seems like the floor manager and handles the customer intake. She's a nice straight-forward person that tries to help provide enough information and questions to the customer. I started with her and finished with Ken at the end, who seems to be some sort of mechanic/parts coordinator; cool dude. Work: I think a full diagnostic for the idle (not certain I did this; I saw them and Firestone around same period for this issue; Firestone did a hose repair with heat shrink and black tape, though), vacuum hose smoke test, and parts/labor were all discussed. I think all came out clear except for the backup light. They called me and confirmed the switch/connection was bad and obsolete for these lights. That's when I asked them if a toggle switch could be installed. Priscilla went to ask a mechanic and this worked out great (see pic)! I'm actually quite happy with this little fix which Firestone couldn't do; it's a clean install with a simple toggle switch on my dash in an unused flat plastic piece near the clock. Inexpensive, to boot! Losing the white backup lights would've been a reason I'd part with the car so thank you Lioe's and the mechanic who worked on this. Pick up: The front office was friendly and kind during payment and pick up. Walk to where ever your vehicle is parked and carry on. Now I just need a nice little custom sticker with "on/off" to put next to the toggle switch. No I'm not using Post-its. :P read more

I stopped by for the first time, brought in a car for AC check up / repair. They claimed it was 2 hours of work to put in refrigerant and dye, and told me to come back another day (appointment scheduling also doesn't make sense here). When asking them about why it took 2 hours, the mechanic didn't have a good answer other than he ran the car for 30 min. I spent $300 on something I could have done myself in 5 minutes (small cans of R-134a were banned as of this year), and the cost of refrigerant / dye is not expensive. I won't be going back to this business. They think they scammed me into paying $300, but really it's their loss since if they would have done the job right and charged fairly, I would have been a loyal customer. I'll be taking my car somewhere else where they do A/C checkup for free and don't require you to come back a 2nd time just to diagnose. read more

Adding a star. Aside from the issue mentioned in the previous update, I have had nothing but good experiences at Lioe's so it deserves its fourth star. I have come here a couple times since then for oil changes and car checks and everything went swimmingly. The only reason why I don't come here for all of my auto work is because I live on the Eastside. In some cases, I have to go to Firestone if I am in a pinch. But otherwise, I would get my car serviced at Lioe's. They say that good mechanics are hard to find. So when you find one, you keep going to them. And that is what I do. Brought my own quality part that I knew was bad. They said that was okay to do. I had my car towed there. They confirmed the problem but said they couldn't use my part...no reason given. It was a quality brand...not generic. Since I had the car towed on, I had no choice but to approve their repair. They charged over $500.00 for the part...mine was 275.00. When I went to the auto parts store to return it, they said shops will do that so they can make additional profit...also many use the cheapest parts available. Not saying thats what Lioe's did, but looking at the repair, it wasn't a factory part which is usually the most expensive. read more

Lioe's is fast, flexible, provides excellent advice and they take great care of us - all at very reasonable prices. Ripoff artists and scammers, don't go here!! I was in a rush and didn't have time to drive up north to my regular mechanic, and Needed an oil change before a long trip. I even provided them my own OEM brand filter. Quoted me like $60, they're just down the street, sure fine. Asked them if they could run the codes on check engine light just to make sure nothing new has popped up, and also a would you mind checking a squeaky fan belt and tightening please? I mean really, max $20 Im thinking for a new belt if needed. These jerks charged me $200+ Thats not a typo. FOR AN OIL CHANGE. What a ripoff. Insulting. Screw these scumbags. And they tried to tell me they read all this nonsense about temperature sensor and thermostat and $700 to fix. I drove it immediately to my mechanic who read it all for free, said it was only $250 to fix the thermostat and was not an urgent problem in the summer anyway. We've had 5 cars serviced by Lioe's, going back for over 15 years. They are honest, competent, reliable and incredibly courteous and friendly. There are too many examples of the above to list here, but to give a recent example: I have an electrical issue this week (rats chewing wires). Ken was a few hours from his vacation for the holidays and couldn't get to the repair for a week. He had a busy schedule, but because I needed to drive this car out of town, he said to bring the car in for a quick check. He checked the wires and gave the car the OK to drive until next week. And his cost of repair will be far below the Subaru charge (I know because my neighbor's similar issue is being repaired by a Subaru dealer, for a ridiculous charge). read more

I've taken our cars to Lioes for almost 20 years now. They do good work and treat us fair.

They told me it was 480$ on the phone multiple times and then when it was time to pay, the bill was $800.??? They left the vin #s of the parts off the invoice and then when I straggled them for the part #s turned out it was 20$ each for new ignition coil. They charged me 120$ for each of them. They run a fraudulent slimey business and I have no idea how they aren't shut down. I wish someone had told me this, so here I am making a Yelp account, only to warn you guys about lioes automotive. Have a good day y'all P.S - not only do they blatantly lie about the price, but they also scam you on the labor costs. I used to work at an auto shop and labor is consistently around 100$ an hour. I've done a compression test and put on new spark plugs before. The compression test takes like 45 seconds and they charged me $200 for that. And the spark plus take 5 minutes each. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt and say each one took 10 minutes. That's still under 2 hours of work and they charged $400 for labor. BUT IGNORE ALL THE DETAILS THE THING TO TAKE AWAY IS THEY TOLD ME IT WAS 480$ AND GAVE ME A $800 BILL AND LOOK AT THESE REVIEWS IM NOT THE ONLY ONE. Update(reply to response): I presented the facts, the business seems to come on the defense very quickly. Just browsing other reviews of this place, it seems this is either the last honest auto-mechanic business or all the other ones that found discrepancies are dishonest. One might also note how unprofessional and tactless their responses are. There are virtually no kind responses. It is as if their motto is "the customer is always wrong." This is not what any reasonable customer is looking for when searching for a mechanic, that's the truth. Here's some more facts: the hood paint was never redone, likely looks different due to the sun. Alas, it is possible that someone snuck into our garage and repainted our hood a lighter shade. Unless a car is brand new, there will be rust anywhere. Any veteran knows that when cleaning a weapon for inspection, it's virtually impossibly to remove 100% of carbon build-up. Only a brand new weapon will have zero wear-issues. But the weapon is still FMC. The inspector discovered the vehicle was in an accident as reported in carfax, bravo. Repairs were sufficient enough for the dealership to say "no needed repairs." As stated in original review, the car was barely driven at all since the previous inspection. As a reasonable person, one should compare two mechanics perspectives. And if one finds a $1k difference, one is inclined to inquire why. I'm sure there are nice and genuine people at this shop, but they probably don't know the password to the yelp account. read more

I let my brake pads wear down too far and they started rubbing against the rotors. Over the weekend I tried to change the rotors and pads myself but I totally forgot I've been hitting the gym hard bro. The lower caliper bolt thought it was the sht, so with my new muscles, I tore that sucka in half with my bare hands (and a socket wrench). Too bad the other half was still stuck in the caliper... #gainz #keepinitreal Anyways, I was referred to Lioe's automotive on beacon and boy did I luck out! They were very accommodating and fit me in on Monday, drilled that fool out, replaced the pads and rotors, and was set ready to roll the same day. They helped show me a breakdown of all the costs and details of what they had to do. I'm recommending Lioe's with 5 stars for accommodation, clarity of work and cost, friendliness, and honesty. read more

It was a chop shop. I had them doing a simple window motor and doorhandle replacement. They managed to somehow short out my alternator, so literally the second time I turned the key after picking up the car my alternator had blown. That cost me a bunch more money to fix myself. When I took the car back to try to get their help, they just tried to upsell me more unnecessary repairs. Then, the doorhandle repair that they did failed about three days after I picked up the car, and I had to go back a third time for them to fix that. The repairs they did do were ridiculously expensive. This place had been recommended by a friend, but I could not have been more disappointed. I would really avoid this place. read more

I went here based on the Yelp reviews for a routine oil change. After the oil change was completed they brought me into the office and quoted me for an additional $2,000 worth of work that needed to be done. I decided to go to another shop and get a second opinion and all that needed to be done was a $90 wheel alignment. The takeaway...get a second opinion before having any work done on your car here!!! Reply: I was told by you guys that the "rubber bearings on my control arms were cracking and needed to be replaced". The other mechanic I went to actually took the time to put the car on a lift and showed me the control arms. Which had NO cracks at all and were still in great condition. The wheel alignment was the proper solution to this issue. read more

My family has been going here for years. Not cheap but generally they get the job done. This time I took my Silverado in. It took them awhile to get the parts. Communication was poor. After having to pick up and drop off the car twice we had to leave it over the weekend for them to get parts. Truck was broken into over the weekend outside their shop. So they fixed the original problem but we got it back with a broken ignition system. They will not take responsibility, didn't tell us about it until they finished the ABS repair and won't cover the repairs. I don't get it, they won't be getting our business anymore. So Wain helped me and I parked kinda far from the place and he walked with me to check it out. And he then pressurize my tires at no cost. Love the customer experience.
