John at Doyle's was amazing. We took our Audi Q5 here to get our brake pads and rotors replaced. John inspected our car and noticed that only the brake pads are worn out and the rotors need not be replaced (unlike what the Audi service center told us). Clearly they are not looking at making profits unlike some of these luxury car service centers who try to dig problems that are not even a problem to begin with. John was honest and upfront about pricing. In fact he took his time to contact other vendors and get a reasonable quote for us. It was easy to get an appointment and the work was done in less than 3 hours within a couple of weeks of contacting them first about the issue. All in all we trust Doyle's with our car and will always come here for any future repairs. Lovely to have such honest automobile repair stores in our West Seattle neighborhood. read more

Really happy with these guys! Not everyone works on older vehicles- my Jeep is 33 years old. I had an unknown oil leak that I couldn't find and was worried that it was the main seal. They looked at it, found what turned out to be a simple issue/fix, and got it done on time at a fair cost. Jon and his team communicated during the diagnosis and repair. My Jeep is very special to me and they took really good care of it. You will need to make an appointment as the shop is busy- there is a reason why. We have a BMW that we had been taking to BMW specialists on Capitol Hill for years. Although we got a nice clean car back after each very expensive visit, we could never get them to find the cause of this car's habit of burning oil. This went on for years, over multiple visits. They told us that it was normal for these German cars to burn oil like this. Baloney! We had been taking our other cars to Doyle's for years and decided to take our BMW to Doyle's for a "Check Engine" notification on the display panel. They soon called us back with a complete diagnosis and in the process found a very obvious explanation for the car burning through the oil. Because of this issue, the engine was very close to a catastrophic failure and I can't imagine how much money Doyle's shop saved us. They are competitive in their pricing and 95% of the time I am very happy with their ability to get the job done right the first time. As others have said, be prepared to have to wait 3-5 days to get your car scheduled for repairs. IMHO, it is absolutely worth the wait. Kudos to John and his team. read more

They've got my business! We recently had a leaky tire on our Odyssey van and had it repaired by the place (in WS) where we bought the tires. All good so far. I asked them to check the brakes since I thought they were due. They called me back after checking and said that I needed brakes all the way around. It was dangerous to drive the car and the estimate was over $1100. Not pocket money to me so I told them thanks but no thanks, we'd park the car until I could afford it. Enter Doyle's (based on recommendations from our best friends). I dropped off the van asking for an estimate on the brakes. Approx. half of the other estimate AND was also told that I didn't really need to do the rear brakes for another 4-6 months, they had about 25-30% life left. So, went ahead & had them take card of the front. When I asked them about the difference in estimates, the original shop had included in rear shocks which they didn't tell me about and also was pricing new rotors. Doyle's said that I didn't need new rotors, the ones on my van were fine, just needed a little work. I will definitely take my cars there in the future. They saved me $$''s on my van. read more

These guys are great. They do work for me and my dad... We had been going to Tom's which was expensive. These guys are open, fair and do a great job. And they do all kinds of makes of cars. The only issue I've had is often I can't get my car into them in a timely manner because they're booked out. And that can be problematic for me since I own a business and travel frequently. read more

Took my car to Doyle's for a coolant leak diagnosis. John was very courteous and sympathetic, diagnosing the issue and recommending I look to replacing the car as it would be very expensive to repair. John said he even called his "go-to" inquiring about engine replacement but to no avail. While they were professional and diagnosed the issues, I was shocked and disappointed at the $138.73 charge for the coolant tests. I can't imagine the tests are light-years ahead of Midas Auto, who last time I checked, charges $33.00 for coolant leak tests, and applies it toward the bill if you do repairs with them. Had I known I was going to be charged so much from Doyle Automotive, I would've brought it elsewhere. read more

I have taken my car to Doyle's a couple times, based on good reviews they have on Car Talk. I was disappointed each time however, and decided the last time that I would not be returning. My car was lurching, and I told them that I thought the problem was a Mass Air Flow Sensor. They ran their diagnostic tests and found that a vacuum was missing! Now, here is what surprised me. They replaced the vacuum, but didn't bother to call me first to let me know how much it would be or that they were doing work on the car. They just did it. They did tell me to keep an eye on the check engine light and let them know if it came on again. Luckily, it was inexpensive, so I picked up my car, so relieved to have it back. The next day, I had planned on taking my sister to the airport. Luckily, I left very early because the car was lurching so bad that it hardly made it onto the freeway and I had to drive with the hazards on and immediately turn around and go home. I called Doyle's and they said they could look at it again in a couple days. So, not only did they clearly not take it out and test their work, but now I have to wait for them to fix the problem that should have been fixed in the first place? I get the car back to the shop and guess what? It was the Mass Air Flow Sensor as I had told them initially! They told me it would cost about $500 to replace this part, that I could put a used part in, but they wouldn't trust it. My thought- as a shop, don't you know how to find a good used part? On top of this, when I went in to pick up the car, the price suddenly changed to it would have cost me $600+! Fishy, if you ask me. They knew I was planning to sell the car, so they recommended cash for clunkers without fixing it. I found the necessary part, used but under warranty on eBay and installed it myself (30 minutes of labor) and it all cost me $45. My car works fine now, and I can sell it for quite a bit more with the part in. Apparently, a pregnant 30-year-old woman who knows practically nothing about cars can do better shopping for good used parts than this shop can.... read more

Unbelievable. I brought my car in to get a quote and forgot to bring it in for the appointed time (after the required part got in). Eventually came back, they reordered the part with no hassle, got me in fast, fixed the issue within a day, charged me LESS than originally quoted WITH an oil change and routine maintenance thrown in. Also, apparently through no fault of theirs, some sensor got damaged while they were working on the car. John called me to let me know that they were going to fix it (proactive af), that it wouldn't cost me anything, etc. Just awesome people, great service, reasonable prices. Basically the exact opposite of every auto mechanic stereotype. read more

My Honda Fit's airbags got recalled. While at the dealership, they said I needed to replace my valve cover gasket and it would cost $381. What?! I called around West Seattle to get some quotes. Doyle was the cheapest and over $100 cheaper than the dealership. So yesterday I took it in and asked Jon to first look at it before replacing it just in case there's actually nothing wrong with it. There was nothing wrong with it! Jon explained exactly what was going on, he cleaned it up real good and he didn't charge me a penny. Thanks Jon and team! I own an older car that regularly fails the emissions test. Doyles is the only shop that has been able to correctly identify and repair the problem. Doyle's Automotive is consistent, thorough, and professional. Cringing at the costs, I've tried a couple of other local mechanics in West Seattle who charged about 10% less, but ended up spending more time to get less service. Doyle's is worth every penny. And I'm obviously not the only one who thinks so - for repairs that take more than 30 minutes of his shop's time, Jon has a 3-6 business day wait before he can schedule you in. He's working with me right now to keep a 250k car on the road just a little bit longer until we can get a new model. Instead of convincing me to fix everything that's wrong with the car before I donate it or sell it, he's helping me prioritize what needs to be working well so that we can keep driving to work. If you want fast-food repairs, there are several shops nearby. But if you value good work, honest assessments and consistent professionalism, you'll go to Doyle's. read more

I have been going to Doyle's for at least 10 years. I was referred there by several of my co-workers, who got tired of working on their cars on weekends. I have been very very happy with the service I've received. I get a good description of what the problem is and how it will be repaired. They have helped me when I was in a pinch to get to Yakima to care for a sick relative, squeezing my truck repair in on short notice. They've picked me up at work when I couldn't get a ride to the shop. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who needs a good, honest mechanic. I've been meaning to write this review for awhile now! These guys are amazing!! My car broke down near by, whipped out the iphone and decided to wander their way after reading a few reviews. Once meeting with them, they drove over, picked up my car and evaluated it's issues. My trusty Subaru with 250K miles on it was almost on it's last legs. We were at the point of deciding if it was time to get a new car...they understood this and tested the compression of the motor and recommended with just doing the minimal repairs needed to make it run, it could easily go another year. We followed their advice and my car is still going strong at 290K! Thank you Doyle! You will always be my mechanic shop even if I have to take a ferry to get there! read more

Terrific! I had a side mirror pop out. I checked in with the Toyota dealership for an estimate, and was told it would be a day-long repair and would likely cost $400. Thinking that seemed very high, I decided to ask around for a second opinion. The Doyle folks invited me to come in that day, said the repair would be straightforward, scheduled me for the following day, and then charged me only for the part (approx. $100). They were exceptionally friendly, did the work they said they'd do, on time, and without any fuss. They also noticed a few things that needed my attention and made recommendations for where to turn for those other repairs. While I hope to not have a reason to visit this shop again, they will be the first call I make if I need to. read more

I've taken my vehicles to Doyle's for years. Mostly for the big jobs that I can't do or no longer wish to do. I've reviewed them before, but recently got some work done. Now, we realize that shop rates are high and Doyle's is right up there. However, I absolutely trust what they tell me and the job gets done right. I took my old Escalade in for a transmission flush, and for them to fix a leak in my front differential. Turns out the diff wasn't the problem, but a housing for the oil filter. Additionally, they told me my radiator was leaking. Well, I gotta keep the old guy running, so I had the work done. In the process, they discovered the vehicle had an improperly functioning thermostat. I swear the car runs better now! It runs a wee bit hotter than before, but the temp is rock solid, not matter the weather, traffic or if the air conditioning is on. BTW, I've heard horror stories about changing transmission fluid in an old vehicle. Well, I'm happy that the tranny shifts just fine. I thought before it was a little sluggish. I love this place. I've been taking cars there for almost 20 years now. Jon is great and always communicates to me if something needs to be done that is beyond what I requested, and how much it will cost. Their prices are reasonable (and I have not even been charged for some services), and they will give you a ride home, or a ride back to the garage to pick up your car (something I appreciate as a 60+ female who doesn't like walking in the rain up a very steep hill!).
