The first time I went in for a catalytic converter issue and it took three visits to get it right. They made good on their word--sort of--but it introduced a theme with them that I encountered later: the good cop/bad cop routine between the mechanic, Kenny, and the front desk guy, Wayne. Wayne never seemed to take any accountability, it was always a Kenny thing. That's not what I call accountability. The second, and now last, time I took my car in I had them repair a bunch of things that led to my car stalling in traffic. I dropped 3 thousand dollars on repairs that lasted me 30 miles. The brand new hose to my radiator came off and fouled the motor. Of course, even though they had done all kinds of work on the cars they day before, none of this was their fault. So, to get my car back into drivable condition, it cost me another 4 thousand dollars. Had I known beforehand that I was going to get stuck spending 7 thousand dollars on my car, I would have probably taken a different course. When I took my car to my Real Mechanic, he said that I probably had a legal case against them (though impossible to prosecute) and that my engine "sounded like shit". They said the hose looked large and was probably cranked down too hard, and that was what led to the radiator flange breaking off. Oh, and Lioe's kept my car for three weeks while they were trying to fix it. If I had known that they would take that long (and their communication was terrible) then I would have been out a car just as long as waiting for my Real Mechanic to get me in. At this point I don't trust Lioe's enough to take the car back and have it serviced under warranty, should it have engine troubles. How's that for a spot to be in? They should fix it, but I don't think Kenny is either skilled enough, or scrupulous enough, to properly fix it. Feeling quite burned by the whole experience.

With parking and a convenient night drop, the AAA driver and I left it in the Courtesy parking lot. They called me first thing in the morning to let me know it's a rubber cooling hose. By then I'd had a little time to research and knew that I didn't want it replace with a likely to break rubber hose again, but asked if they could use a metal one, which they obliged. It wasn't cheap, but I really think you get what you pay for and I like to support West Seattle businesses. Went for an oil change & to look into a relatively minor check engine light. Both were resolved…read morefine. While that was going on they sent a quote for a bunch of other maintenance items, which I refused. Fine, lots of other shops do this kind of thing. But they wanted quite a lot for engine air filters, so I decided to do that myself. Today I get into my engine and discover the hose from the air filter box to the engine is completely loose. There's two of these on my car -- one was properly tight, the other was so loose it had a gap letting unfiltered air into the engine. This is the only shop that's touched my car for a couple years, and if they were recommending an air filter replacement I have to assume they actually looked at them. Easy fix, just tightening a worm clamp after swapping the filters. But my car was in this state for a few months. Reader, this silly mistake could have destroyed the car's engine, and very well may have damaged it. It does not take a lot of unfiltered debris to permanently score cylinder walls. I'd need to go get a compression test to know for certain. I came to this shop for oil changes & maintenance because I didn't want to feel the need to crawl around my car double-checking a quick-change place's work. That is apparently not the level of service they are set up to provide. For what they charge and the "vibe" they give off, this sort of thing should be on a checklist a second mechanic runs through before delivering the car. Real basic "humans are capable of making mistakes" type of controls.

So, this story starts off late last week of Friday November 24th in dropping off a friend. I…read morestarted seeing the seatbelt icon flickering on my dashboard. At the stop light I looked around to see if there was anything on any of the other seats in my sedan. I found nothing to set off the sensors, so either a spirit was riding with me or it was my seatbelt that needed readjusting. I undid it & then buckled it back & that seemed to help in not seeing the light on anymore. So fast forward that next Tuesday the 28th I went to auto-start my car to warm it up while I did a few more things in getting ready to leave. After taking out the trash I noticed my car was off, which happens when it's fully warmed & has been sitting idle for awhile. So I started it up again, only for it to start, but then shut off again moments later. As I went to auto-start it again, it turned on by itself, but then shut off, only to repeat the process. So I'm thinking WTF?! In hoping it's not an electrical problem. I started it manually now in which it stayed on, but now the battery light was on along with the flickering seatbelt light on the dash. So I'm watching both of these lights going on & off & feeling the car shudder like it's not getting enough (juice) & wants to die. So I'm thinking "great my battery is dying." Freaked out in wondering if the car will make it to a shop, I took it to Les Schwab first in them doing a test. Turned out after adjusting my battery connection, that "seemed" to be the problem & both lights went out & all seemed fine until leaving their lot & hitting that steep hill on 35th. All resumed as before. So desperate & stressed at this point cause there was only so much Les Schwab could do, & the dealership I usually take my car to was booked out till early next year I thought of Ben from C.A.R. - Complete Auto Repair. I talked to him over the phone in describing what was happening. He went over a few things with me on what he thought could be the issue, but also told me he was booked out most of the rest of the year going into next year as I understood he may, as are most others at this time. But he still said to bring it in & he'd see what he could do for me. Which I did literally that same day. I told him how thankful I was & that he'd get back with me by the next day or so once he figured what the issue/issues were. Sure enough that Wednesday, I had my answer that it was in fact the alternator & battery in both needing to be replaced, which the alternator was at least 10 years old & the battery close to 5 years, so it made sense. I was thankful that was all it was. It came to just over a grand in expenses but well worth it. Ben was upfront, honest, efficient, & hella fast in getting my car up & working properly later that next day. There was no way it would have made it till the next oil change in early January of next year. Highly recommend Ben & I can see why he's so busy!! Happy Holidays!
