I got the oatmeal, a side of bacon and tea. My bill was around $40. A bit pricey if you ask me for oatmeal, bacon and a tea pack. If you do get the oatmeal know that it's water based and not milk. I wouldn't have ordered that if I knew that initially. The decor of the place is nice. Very modern. Looks beautiful at night. read more

To start with, the place was jam packed when we got there. The bartender, Ruby was swamped but very efficient and friendly. We had a couple appetizers (tuna and baked salmon), both were yummy. Then we ordered our main courses, Caesar salad with seared tuna, curry bowl with shrimp and a ribeye. As the photos show, they looked amazing and they tasted just as good as they looked. I discovered this establishment while visiting the Lofton Hotel on the evening of a WNBA Lynx playoff game. I sat at the bar and the staff were incredible - I was just looking for a quick bite and the shiitake croquettes were perfect. Very crispy and filled with mushroomy potatoey goodness. They were toppped with a micro cilantro that was a nice contrast to the fried croquettes. There are lots of other tasty and interesting dishes on the menu. The service here is quick and kind. The ambiance at least when I was there was a bit... empty. Not a ton of people, except at the bar where people were watching a game. One thing to note- I am comparing this experience with the last time I was there. The restaurant itself is less fancy than before- previously the bathrooms had heated almond oil towels, and smelled nice. Food wise- there used to be palate cleansers, and the food used to be a lot more unique. This time, the entree and the appetizer came out at the same time, making it hard because if you ate one the other would get cold. We got the salmon dip for the app and that was really good! Don't ruin your night here. I'm currently staying at the hotel and went to Cosmos after a long and difficult day. As I'm relaxing and reflecting on the challenges of the day, the lights come on and the noise volume turns to "11" as the crew begins clean up. This destroyed the whole point of the experience. I've stayed at Lofton Hotel for 2 months on business travel. although it's a beautiful hotel and most of the staff is great. Had a very unpleasant unprofessional experience with the bartender on the 4th floor named Angel. After receiving drink credits from the general manager Angel wouldn't honor them because we were given some in the past and he stated we used them too often and stated we owed him money. Instead of dealing with it with his general manager he tells us in front of a crowd of people we owe him money very unprofessional esp after all the money we spent over a 2 month period basically $800-$1000 week. Why would the general manager give us the drink voucher if it was a problem in first place. I will no longer stay at a place that employs people like that. Food was wonderful! Very quiet place, however the service was not great. There was usually 2-3 servers working and the restaurant was never busy. Last night we were the only ones in the entire restaurant and we were left waiting to order drinks for 15 minutes. Everytime we went to get breakfast we had to wait forever for someone to help us. They would help other tables and ignore us. Super weird. The chef's tasting was one of the best food experiences we've ever had. Given we spent six years in San Francisco with amazing restaurants that says a lot. Between Will pairing the most perfect wines with every course, to sous chefs Jeremiah and Laura curating the most flavorful and unique dishes, everything about the night was so wonderful. The chef's tasting is done in the kitchen so you have access to the chef's as they cook. It starts with the chef's talking with you about your likes and dislikes with them. Dinner at Cosmos is an experience. Unlike many hotel restaurants, Cosmos serves up ambiance, excellent food, and great service for an all-around wonderful dinner. They start dinner by providing a delicious amuse-bouche, bring out a tasty juice palate-cleanser "shot" in the middle, and end the evening with a lovely chocolate truffle. And that's on top of what you actually order. The wait staff are very knowledgable and friendly, which adds to the feel of an upscale dining experience. I love how clever the chef gets with the rotating menu options and have never had a dish I didn't thoroughly enjoy. Try the tasting menu, which changes frequently. You won't be disappointed. Oh my goodness gracious, I never expected this fare upon my first trip to the fine city of Minneapolis. Nothing was spared, exquisite is damn appropriate verbiage, and it can easily compare and surpass any upper crustie hangout in Seattle. We shared a plethora of appetizers to start - ...well, actually I had a Bombay Sapphire with extra lime to start, heh. Ahi Tuna Tartare, Wagyu Beef & Maryland Crab Cakes. The Ahi was foodgasmic, rich and savory, yet the fish was sweet. I'm not fan of crab, but loved the seasoning of these crab cakes. And Wagyu beef prepped like this should be as illegal as street drugs. Dizzying. Then salad: I had the Chilean Sea Bass Ceviche. It tickled my palate, and wasn't as tart as some I have had, so I could still taste the fish in a pleasant way, crisp & delectable. I felt inclined to share - only a little however. We then moved on after a sorbet to cleanse away taste I actually did not want to go away... yes, we ate more.... Angus Tenderloin. Knives can be excused. Buttery Bovine perfection. My friend poked me, as I apparently closed my eyes to let it play a round of pro Canadian curling with my tastebuds. She assumed I was asleep sitting up, with beef in my mouth. Dummy. We then moved onto dessert, and tho I said no as to not pass out, I partook of friend's dishes. Helllooo APPLE. Sinful spoonful of heaven to finish the meal. Both wait staff we had were professional, fun, QUICK and knowledgeable. We requested the chef come out so we could fawn over him, and he complimented us back with a chocolate array. I had a great experience at Cosmos. I don't usually eat at 'fine dining' establishments due to the cost implications, but I do appreciate these experiences greatly. This being said, my friends and I treated ourselves to a fun outing during restaurant week. We arrived early and had a specialty drinks before we were seated. The cocktails were well mixed, fresh and lively. The raspberry mojito was very good - both visually stunning and very tasty. The Pom Martini was also great - but I'm a sucker for anything that has anything to do with pomegranate! Watch yourself though - a few of these will set you back a pretty penny - the average price is around 13 bucks a drink. The restaurant itself is in the Graves Hotel in downtown Minneapolis. Its a beautiful establishment. Walking into the dinning room you really get the sense that you're experiencing something special; it has a very unique feel to it. I'd call it a feeling of relaxed elegance... comfortable and cool, yet refined. Our service was great. The waiter helped us decide on items (due to the fact that we went during restaurant week we had a set menu, so a smaller choice) based on our food preferences. I chose to go with the confit of Chilean sea bass as my main dish, while my friends chose the beef tenderloin. I could go on and on about the food; from the salad starter of delicate micro greens, to the amuse bouche of lychee that 'popped' in your mouth... the experience was phenomenal. For a Friday it was not very busy between 5-7:00 so we want to get the word out that this place has really has it all. Cosmos is on the 4th floor of the Lowe hotel in downtown Mpls. It isn't well marked from the street or even inside the hotel. The chef has his own foraging company and as a wild-crafter I was pleased with his *real* wild mushrooms that were very fresh! Delicious fall treat! Only thing I would change is having a vegan dessert option. We will be back! Cosmos is located inside the Lowes Hotel(the old Graves Hotel). I liked that they have complimentary valet parking for eating at the restaurant. It's a very nice quiet place to dine. The waiters were really nice, but he could not remember what we all ordered and had to come back to ask us again. And while everyone's dinner was served they made a "mistake" on mine so it came out later then everyone's which meant I ate by myself while everyone had finished their meals. I'm sure they forgot my order!!!! Was not happy about that and I asked for medium and it looked more like medium rare! Regardless, I still are it but I didn't like the mushroom or carrots that they had with the dish. It wasn't good. More people need to know about this restaurant, especially vegans and vegetarians. Don't let the fact that this restaurant is in a hotel scare you away. They have a great menu with creative veggie options that changes seasonally. In addition to fresh salads, you can get a changing assortment of vegan meats and cheeses from Herbivorous Butcher as part of a vegan charcuterie plate. It's a great way to sample HBs stuff without dropping big bucks at the shop. They also feature HB meat-free meat in a well curated dish. My husband had the vegan short ribs with succotash and I had a very nice pea risotto. It's becoming of our favorite places, being one of the few places to have an upscale vegetarian dining experience in Minneapolis. So I'll definitely be back. I really enjoyed my recent dinner and was surprised that the place wasn't busier. I guess being on the 4th floor of a hotel doesn't help. Anyway, although the gals I was with went for the $55 six course (tastings) menu I went with the a la carte. - the butterhead lettuce (with granola and some hard cheese) was delicious. I've heard of butterhead lettuce, but never tried and I'm glad that I did. It a real tender leaf with mild flavor. Any the salad was very simple, had very little dressing, but I think the simplicity is what made it so good. -for my entree, I got the BBQ pork chop which pretty good. With it came braised beef shoulder which was yummy. There was also a coleslaw which was okay, and a potato salad which I didn't enjoy. It wasn't mayo based. It was just cubes of potatoes with a bit of mustard and lots of mustard seeds. -for the dessert, I didn't like any of the options, so the waiter (who felt was a bit too talkative and intrusive) offered to get me a strawberry cheesecake from the room service menu. He provided the offer of getting something from that separate menu several times to my group. With that said, it's dumb that they even have a separate one. Now getting back to the waiter, Tim, I think he needed something to do. He continuously stopped by just to chat which after became annoying to me. Especially since he always brought a heap of sarcasm and TMI with him. Anyway, I really enjoyed the dinner and the ambiance and the talkative/annoying waiters willingness to accommodate with substitutions. Wow! Is all I could say. A quiet and upscale restaurant located on the 4th floor or hotel Loews. They offer free valet if you eat at Cosmos, just be sure to let the valet know and get your ticket comped. The menu was small & they change it often. I ordered a tuna tartar $14, beef tenderloin with king crab $40, and for drinks I got the hidden agenda $15. Yes, pretty spendy BUT I must say, it's all worth it. The tuna tar tar came with an avocado sorbet. So much flavor and delicious! It just melted in my mouth. The beef tenderloin and king crab was the BEST I've had in a long time. The beef was so tender and just melted in my mouth! I would definitely come here again! During the meek we also got clam chowder, a palette cleanser (I don't know if that's the correct term) and chocolates with pistachio bites which were AMAZING!! The service was alright. Since I was staying at the graves 601 hotel, it was easiest to just go downstairs for breakfast at the restaurant. The menu was your standard breakfast fare. I ended up getting a shiitake, tomato, chive omelet. The omelet was ok - didn't really taste the chives. Oh yea, the fresh squeezed OJ would set you back $8 for a tiny glass. We came here on Valentines Day and ordered drinks at the bar prior to our reservation which was a good move since they only had bottle options on their drink menu rather than wine by the glass. The food was amazing! We started with the Mixed Baby Head Lettuce and the Spicy Basil Shrimp which has become one of my favorite dishes. Then we had the Ahi Tuna Tartare, the Slow Poached Chilean Sea Bass, and the Bison Tenderloin Carpaccio. The sea bass was everything I had hoped for but the small portion is a little too small for two people to share. We split everything and it was just the right amount of food. The service was a little awkward since they dropped some dishes around our table here and there but overall the service was decent. The drinks are delicious! Being Cosmos, the happy hour is still pricey, but while the food list is short and tasty, the drinks are great! I got the mango mojito, tequila sunrise, and the pineapple mint (I must have been in a high vitamin C mood). The pineapple mint, I could have done 3 of those, sooo good! Restaurant week + my bday = drunken sloppy dining all week. While we waited for our table, we had some drinks at the bar. Fancy, plenty of seating, and looks like the same drink menu from downstairs...good start...First app was a salad, pancetta, runny egg...say no more, I'll take two...it was fatty and light...like me :)...Wife had the shrimp risotto which was also pretty good...like an Italian fried rice. On top of the restaurant week's apps, I ordered the tuna tartar and shrimp/fish/walnut thing...the fish thing sucked, but the tuna was the bomb diggity...so fresh and so clean. Entrees were salmon and beef tenderloin...beef was super meh. If you see it on menu, ignore the heck out of it...remembered it being bland and very forgettable...Salmon was awesome though. I definitely picked the right time to go here as this place was dead, yet I ended up having a nearly 2-hour dinner. Even while we waited 30 minutes for extremely tardy dinner guests, our food took almost the same interval, and really extended our time there. The first strike against Cosmos was in the disparity of online to actual menus. When you have several picky colleagues, the fact that they cannot get the healthy dish they saw online is quite the drama. Though I'm more flexible, I though there should be at least a reliable online menu. We had to literally read the menu over the phone as people's orders had changed. The second strike was the "all flash, no bang" situation on the actual food. Polling my co-workers revealed about a 3-star average (I know, I'm such a Yelper asking for 1- to 5-star ratings at dinner) on food and generally bland reviews for the high cost. To top it off, the portions are small. Any redeeming qualities? Yes, the interior is really awesome, very modern and trendy. The ambiance was quiet and had the feel of dim-lit cafe, but in 2020. Seemingly, most of the Graves 601 hotel follows this theme, but it's still cool nonetheless. There are a few cool little gimmicks during your stay, trying to be all sophisticated: a tiny fried carrot-and-yogurt treat, melon-and-cherry "shot" (non-alcoholic), and after dinner, some chocolate truffles. We made a reservation this weekend at this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. We went through a bunch of restaurants and picked this one because their menu on their website looked very interesting. When we arrived at the restaurant we were pleased with the ambiance and the hospitality from the staff. The menu they gave us though was very different from what we saw online It is nearly half the menu and it not even remotely as interesting. When we asked about it, they said they didn't update the menu online. We tried to see if there are any items that would interest us. Unfortunately we didn't find any. I think dropping half of their menu (particularly dropping the more interesting half) is a big mistake. We said we have to go and they were very apologetic and courteous to us. We just went another nice restaurant nearby without a reservation, but were lucky enough to get in. read more

I used to come here like at least twice a month for a period of time. It's great because it's always empty or close to it. I'm not kidding, there have been times where we were the only people in the place. Which we never understood because the food is excellent, most of the time. Wonderful dinner experience. Our second time at Cosmo's and it was a perfect dinner-date! Our server, Adel, was phenomenal- prompt, attentive and knowledgeable without being stuffy. We each ordered the five-course Chef's choice and were not disappointed. It was SO delish! Dinner began with tea- we don't drink. Right away a small bread basket was brought out to us, then a plate with a single (incredibly flavorful) bite with a fancy name, followed by a cheese platter with all sorts of fun items to sample, all very tasty. One of my favorite things was a caper berry, a fascinating item that tasted like a gigantic caper, but somehow better. Following the cheese plate we had small samples of tuna, roast, scallops, and veal. A variety, and everything was excellent. Dessert was incredible- my significant other had this concoction of layered sorbet, raspberries, and "lime froth" or some such (silly) thing but they knew what they were doing- it was so good! And I got an equally delicious, although completely different, dessert. I'm glad we went with the Chef's Choice & would do it again in a heartbeat! Expensive? Yes. But so worth every penny!!! Valentines Day - set dinner - and a horrible experience. Everything was salty. But here the best after we mentioned it to the waitress he said: "I am not surprised, someone else mentioned it already. The kitchen says you have to eat it with the lobster than it is not so bad" I have to say we were speechless. Supposedly this is also a wonderful restaurant, and if the cheese platter that us gals gorged on was any indication, the food here would be very tasty...it came with a very tasty cinnamon roll bread to use with the cheeses and nuts and it actually worked quite well. Much more fun than just a toasted baguette. My coworker had a breakfast there the next morning and pronounced it the BEST she'd ever had and she's a pretty picky foodie...I'm so bummed I missed out...darn early flight. The more expensive and ritzy the restaurant, the better the likelihood that its chef is incompetent at cooking vegetables and using his/her imagination to make a creative, tasty dish without meat and butter. Indeed, if you're vegan, you'll often end up with boiled vegetables and sorbet. For $50. That said, Cosmos is slightly better than your average expensive restaurant. I came here with a number of colleagues and Cosmos was super-friendly and easy-going with our frequent reservation corrections beforehand. My table's server was charismatic, smooth and efficient, and somehow managed to make my vegan dishes seem more interesting and appealing than my colleagues' ordinary meat and seafood entrees. Indeed, his descriptions of the off-menu vegan dishes made my colleagues think twice about their orders. The starter salad was okay, but nothing special. My main course showed some signs of competence and imagination in the kitchen: it was a mushroom-rice risotto stuffed inside skinned tomatoes, served atop mustard greens with a side of artichokes. It was artfully presented (looked like a bouquet of flowers) and tasted good, though it could have used more flavoring or some kind of curry sauce. For dessert, I got a sorbet (why can't a restaurant like this make a tofu cheesecake? sorbet is boringly enough the default vegan dessert), but it was lemongrass flavored, which was unusual and got my attention. They served it with fresh blueberries, raspberries and blackberries, which stood out as an excellent, personalized touch. One of my colleagues said my dessert should have been on the menu, as it was so lovely. But, for $40-50, I was not blown away by my meal. It was certainly better than I've had at other expensive places, but it wasn't good enough for me to justify returning, especially not at that price. Also, while the bar looks great and the service is awesome, I was shocked by their pathetic, sports-bar beer menu which was overpriced and had no microbrews (a bottle of Miller Lite for $6? seriously? at a place that charges $25 a plate?). Their cocktails looked appealing, but were hard to justify at $14 a piece. The ambience at Cosmos is decidedly lounge-modern, the type of place where you'd expect to meet runway models at after-parties. I like that it's quiet and spacious.
