Last time I was here wasnt the best experience, but decided to go back for the Halloween pop up. Sat at the bar and the bartender was the best service ive had there. I didnt get any food but got a couple drinks. Drinks were super tasty and were similar to what i was expecting. I've always loved the space there, really cool chill vibes, its just a toss up on service at times. Glad this was a good one for me and my date.

We went to Umbra for dinner before a show at the Guthrie Theater. We had never been before and didn't really know what to expect. I liked the contemporary feel. Our table near a window had great light with live plants next to us and an open view of the main restaurant. They were offering a special menu focused on vegan food so I had the vegan entree which was cavatelli pasta with garlic scapes and pesto served on a giant slice of beefsteak tomato. It was super delish with lots of garlicky flavor and a little peppery heat. My wife ordered the short rib bolognese. She said it was really good. I am not big on meat dishes, but I tried it and I am sure meat and pasta lovers would love it. My daughter had another of their regular entrees and was quite happy with it. Before our entrees came we tried the arancini. It was flavorful with a tomato tanginess and nice consistency to the cheese. For drinks my wife and daughter had cocktails which they were happy with. I splurged and had the Aperol Spritz. I thought it was a little light on the prosecco and heavy on the club soda. It was ok, not great. The service could have been a little faster, but only because we were short on time. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. You could tell, however, that he's a meat eater like most people. He wasn't too enthusiastic about the chefs special vegan menu. Nevertheless we gave it a try and I thought the vegan entree was excellent. So often restaurants do a token vegetarian dish only to ruin it with heavy, oily sauces or deep fried ingredients. Not this time. I'd definitely order the cavatelli again. I wanted to give the vegan dessert a whirl but we had a show to get to. Maybe next time. If you're looking for a nice meal before or after the Guthrie give Umbra a try.

Checked in midday. Was hungry for lunch. Decided on the smash burger with a side salad. It was perfect! Service by Desmond was attentive. Another night had a martini at the bar. Perfect. Pretty bartender great and chatty. Good ideas of where to go and seemed to know the locals/regulars. Had breakfast here one day but the breakfast sandwich was just ok. The muffin wasn't toasted enough. The steam made the bottom a bit mushy. Fruit was fresh. Potatoes were awesome. Crunchy on outside, fluffy inside, and not greasy. Service at the table was great

I've been wanting to check out Umbra since seeing their cool pop ups for Halloween and Valentine's Day. This was my first time going, they are doing a Lisa Frank inspired pop up for Pride. Being a millennial Lisa frank was a big deal growing up so I was really excited to see what they had going on. We went on a Thursday around 7pm. Parking is by meter but there are ramps in the area as well. I did make reservations because I wasn't sure if it got busy or not. It was pretty open for seating when we got there and for the pop ups it's in the "bar" only and open seating. When you walk in there's no greeter and host stand it a ways back from the door. But later on I realized that it's basically the hotel lobby and a lot of people kind of pass through the area. On the restaurant side it was more intimate seating and the bar side was more casual and seat yourself. They had couches a few tables and some chairs. I will say our waiter was amazing. He was attentive and overall nice. The menu was pretty limited for the pop up but you can of course order from the regular menu. We ended up getting 1 order of wings, parm fries and a drink each (so 2 drinks). $65 which is reasonable for dt or eating out these days, I guess. The wings were decent, we got buffalo but I think I would have preferred a try rub (for next time). The fries were basic but not crazy high expectations for fries though. We did order drinks for the Pop-up menu. We got the Blue Job and Lady & the Tramp. The drinks were good. I did like the Lady & the Tramp drink a bit more. As far as the pop up, they aren't really promoting it on the socials which is weird but I was a bit disappointed seeing it was just a back drop for decor. They did have 3 or 4 inflatables and a big pony in one corner, that's it, nothing too wild. For Lisa Frank kind of expected more.

We went to Umbra with a very large group before going to the Guthrie for a play. The staff was so amazing, the space was beautiful, and the food and drinks were delicious. They helped us get everyone feed and out the door in time for the play.

I had the BEST time with my friends at Umbra Pink Parlor's Valentine's Day Pop-Up! The space is a total Valentine's dream-pink florals, cozy velvet seating, and the cutest photo-worthy details.I tried the gnocchi it was perfectly soft and flavorful which paired well with the Caesar salad, which was fresh and crisp. I wanted to add soup because I've heard they have the best but they weee all out so it has to be true ! I couldn't resist sampling all the Valentine's-themed drinks, and they were as delicious as they were pretty. But the real standout? Their dirty martini-hands down the best I've ever had. The service was amazing-friendly, attentive, and super helpful with recommendations .If you're looking for festive vibes, great food, and even better drinks, this pop-up is a must!

Love this place! I come here when I am in town and staying at the hotel it is connected to. The staff are amazing, friendly and welcoming and the food is really great! I have tried a few things off the menu but as a creature of habit, I always get the house flatbread, french fries in duck fat or the caesar salad with chicken. That salad is always a hit and delicious. What ever they do to the chicken makes it taste amazing! Mixed with that creamy caesar dressing and crunchy croutons, it makes for a great meal. The flatbread is also always a great treat! I did try the chicken wings, they are amazing as well! slightly spicy and sweet. You will have a great time here, but heads up, they close at 11PM due to location in the hotel. (yes, drunk people get loud. :)) so get there early to enjoy the food and service!

I have mixed feelings about my experience here. The food was great and the drinks were good, but our server seemed distracted and not very attentive. Now, it was a fairly busy Friday night, so would go back for a second try. However, we went specifically for the specialty Halloween cocktails. There were 5 advertised, but our waiter told us only 2 of them were currently available. Disappointing since that was our main reason for going. The dining area is open and welcoming. The furniture is very comfortable and makes you want to stay and enjoy the evening. Unfortunately, the livr music (while good) was too loud to allow for much conversation.

Unfortunately did not have a good experience here Went specifically for the spooky Halloween cocktails that were advertised the whole month of October !! After arriving , we were not greeted by a server for over 15 mins , no water etc and then when we stated that we were there for the Halloween specials the server told us they only had 2 out of the 5 cocktails available !! This was not mentioned or updated on their social media so very disappointing Also the food service was very very slow and overpriced and the live music was way too loud for the atmosphere of this restaurant Management did reach out to me to apologize and that they were unaware that not all the drinks weren't available but I was not happy There is definitely some disconnect between management and the staff and communication issues

I went to visit my friends at the Canopy hotel, they attended a watch event for Love is blind. They were hungry and didn't want to leave the building since it was so cold outside. This restaurant was also set up for the pink parlor pop up event for the month. We walked up to the host station and was seated at the corner round table. Service was great, our server gave us suggestions on their menu. I ordered the soup of the day which is Italian sausage. We also ordered the jumbo wings, crab cake - delicious by the way, and crispy chicken sandwich. The wings tasted kind of sweet, might have been the marinade and then spicy dry rub. I saw the menu on the table for the pop up, I would have to come back to try the food on their menu.

Umbra is located in Canopy Hotel right near US bank stadium. It's the perfect location to have dinner when staying at the hotel or for a night out. The food that we had was very good, but service was extremely slow. We waited over 20 minutes to have a server come to our table and bring water and ask about drinks. Things that were asked for were forgotten throughout the night. The server was friendly enough l, but possibly had too many tables to handle.

Relatively easy to find, though you do have to hunt a little bit, Flora Room sits behind a nondescript metal door leading down a short hallway to the entrance. Take a long moment to allow your eyes to adjust if you're coming before sunset; this space is DARK. It's also perfect. Once your "night vision" kicks in you're surrounded by a nice bar, numerous bistro-style tables and booths. Candles adorn the tables creating a nice, cozy place to settle in for drinks. Once seated in comfortable chairs at a table, we were quickly greeted and provided with menus. The cocktail selection is relatively "small" but really nicely varied. Prices seemed a tad steep but frankly, given the quality of the drinks I'd say quite worth it. I started out with the Evita, a nice flavorful gin-base cocktail topped with a nice egg white foam. Very tasty. My wife opted for the Tapaculo, with gin, mezcal, pineapple, banana and bitters over ice. Also quite good. There are also bites available from the associated restaurant I can't recall the name of mine but I can say it was delicious. Bread-like bites with a really tasty dipping sauce. To close out the visit I selected Palo, a smoked aged rum cocktail that was really nice and rich. My wife chose the Nahualito with rum, walnut, amontillado and white chocolate. All should be on your radar. Flora Room really fit the bill for a nice, intimate speakeasy-style spot to spend time. Dark and cozy. Savory cocktails and friendly service will stand out and make you want to return. I know we'll seek it out if we return to Minneapolis again. I hope so.

Upon entering we were greeted by a woman who was clearly wearing multiple hats as she seemed rushed, a bit off putting and quite frankly distracted. It was Juneteenth the middle of the afternoon and there were maybe 6 people at the bar and one other table besides ours with 2 diners. The person seating us was also our server and the bartender. Menu is small but the items we ordered were all fabulous! Every single one! The collard green dip with cornbread pita chips was absolutely delicious - Think spinach artichoke dip but soul food! The salmon croquettes with lemon herb aioli and arugula salad that accompanied were fresh and light! The catfish sandwich with fries was hot, crispy and well seasoned with fresh lettuce and tomato on a perfectly tender brioche bun. I want to return so bad for the food but it was clear this host, server, bartender and partial cook was pulled in too many directions and that severely compromised our service and gave us stand off energy as first time patrons. I looked it up and she is actually one of the owners. She came across as irritated especially once we didn't order any alcoholic drinks first and then very short and curt following. What took the cake was her telling us she was leaving for the day and needed to close our tab while we were eating. Didn't ask did we want to order anything else and there was another server taking her place and an empty restaurant! My partner had to put his sandwich down wipe his hands pull out his wallet while she stood there impatiently. Then proceeded to linger around hugging her regular bar patrons. It was clear this is a "regulars" spot and if you're not one you're rolling the dice on the service you may or may not get. We were patient and didn't complain because it was Juneteenth and our intention to support black restaurants all weekend. I have many previous years in the industry as a cook, host and GM and I was stunned to know that she was one of the owners when I looked it up. Had planned to return for live music but unfortunately the off putting energy and unwelcoming vibe may have squashed that possibility. I hope they improve service because the food is delicious and deserves attention from a larger and more sophisticated audience.

Only for the owner Fonzie to come over a couple minutes later and tell us that we couldn't sit there because other people were coming in for that spot too. Nothing in the reservation said that it was a limited slot and the fact that even the waitress was unaware that we were going to have to leave to table literally after our dinner was brought to us speaks to the lack of business management or understanding of this establishment. I've tried to give this spot a chance. But after a very disappointing attempt to celebrate my birthday this evening, I will not be returning. The lack of any attempt by Fonzie to rectify this situation was disappointing at best.
