A solid Neapolitan pizza place that's become our staple on nights when we need something tasty, good for kids, and in our neighborhood (Greenwood). The place is small but rarely has a wait. There are 3 sections of the restaurant, a small part where you can view the pizza oven where all the action happens, a larger room where I have seen larger groups, and a back patio for when it's nice! The menu has a revolving selection of cocktails and wines by the glass and bottle. The pizza menu is extensive and the apps/salad are legit. We typically get the meatballs, Caesar salad, margarita pizza, diavola, verde, and sometimes the Vongole (clams!). It's hard to go wrong. The atmosphere is casual but as it gets later, it's a bit dim and the candles on the tables add a nice touch, so if you swing by after 8 it would be a good date place or if you come by later, say after 10pm, it would be nice for after a game or concert. read more

My family recently dined at Cornuto, and while the food was excellent, we left with a bit of a bitter taste in our mouths. we went to the restaurant at 5pm on a weekday with our two small children. Despite the kids being 2 and 4 years, they were very well behaved - quiet, stayed in the booth, didn't make a mess, and hey, my 2 year old ate more of the Cesar salad than I did! however, we did not appreciate the service or wait staff attitude towards our kids. They literally acted as though the kids were invisible and not with us. and I don't just mean they didn't look at them or acknowledge them (which they didn't), but they didn't bring cups, plates, forks, napkins, or ANYTHING for the kids to have a place setting so I had to serve them on napkins; they acted like it was just my husband and myself there. Our simple request for a straw for drinking was met with a stare as though that were an absurd accommodation to request. we went at 5pm, the restaurant was mostly empty, and I can't imagine they would ever treat other guests without kids like this. i don't go out expecting that my kids get special treatment, but i do expect that they get the same respect that they show - and it was sad to see that my toddlers were kinder, better behaved and more respectful than the staff. Seattle has a reputation for being a very family unfriendly city, and it's sad to see that this reputation was well-earned at Cornuto. read more

This is my favorite place in Greenwood and my top choice for a cozy date night or comfortable place to leisurely catch up with friends. While I am partial to the margherita pizza with its fresh, simple, and flavorful ingredients, I've thoroughly enjoyed everything else I've tried, in particular the veal meatballs, della casa salad, and lasagna. The food reminds me of my summer trip to Italy where food is without fuss and lets the true taste of the ingredients' freshness and flavor speak for themselves. Cornuto is not a cheap eats place, per se, but the quality and passion is unrivaled. Their happy hour is a good deal ($6 off smaller pizzas) and on Mondays bottles of wine are half off. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, and so, too, are the knowledgable servers who greet you as though you're a regular. They're happy to make suggestions or substitutions to ensure meals are to your liking and are attentive without hurrying you to leave. Lovely. read more

Cornuto is my favorite pizza place in Seattle, whether I am dining alone or with others. I usually go during happy hour, which offers smaller pizzas for $6 less than the full-size equivalents. I usually get the bufalina, fratelli di bufala, or lupino pizzas. The ingredients are of excellent quality, and the pizza is truly one you can savor. Happy hour drinks are solid but a little expensive: draft beer pints are $5 (good), while house wines come only in carafe sizes ($12). The aperol spritz and negroni are $7, which is a bit much given the cost of the underlying ingredients. Service is great and friendly. The space is small and a bit dark, but a pack patio is available for those who want a more open ambiance. read more

Been wanting to try this place out for awhile as I've walked by there free pizza sign repeatedly during the non free times and saw on Yelp it was highly rated. So I finally rushed off work early to make it here @ 5 only to find out they stopped doing it this month and going forward. And that they are removing the location / neighborhood personal touches to the shop to make it conform to the parent "chain". How lame and non Seattle like. Seems like this place used to be unique and cool earning it's rating and will soon be nothing more than a absurdly over priced pizza place. I went ahead and gave their new $6 pizza happy hour a try and it was not only some of the least tasty and boring pizza I've had in Seattle - it was also the tiniest and least filling. FYI, this is actually a Via Tibunali now. We went here for a quick meal during happy hour. After being acquainted with the new normal of Seattle prices after being gone for 5 years (i.e. - stratuspheric), this was a refreshing change. The happy hour was to be short, excellent. I got a pepperoni pizza for $6 and it was more than enough for me and it was very good quality. The drink prices were good and they had Manny's on tap at happy hour prices as well. I was pleasantly surprised by Cornuto! Frank & I decided to go here on a whim after I noticed it on a walk home along Greenwood. I've been craving artisan pizza ever since I moved to the area, and after checking out the menu and some reviews we decided to give this spot a shot for a casual New Year's Eve dinner. I had the pepperoni and he had the Americano - we both loved the pizzas! Light, slightly crispy crust, thick pepperonis, and fresh cheese, no complaints there. If this review was on pizza alone I'd give 5 stars! Our only slightly negative experience here was the fact that they charge for a tiny basket of bread (if you're paying $15-$20 per pie and it's a nice spot like this I feel like they should at least offer a complimentary bread basket, but maybe that's just me). I also asked for a glass of white from the waiter since they didn't list any wine on their liquor menu and I think he served me their house white which was very watery and not all that pleasant. I last reviewed this restaurant four years ago. When I was first dating my now-wife, this was a great place for a romantic and tasty date. It has only gotten better since then and this has become a favorite neighborhood spot to relax. The cocktails have improved, the vibe is just as cozy. Spent a really wonderful evening here with some of my best girlfriends. The three of us ordered a salad apiece before splitting three pizzas and one dessert. Next time I'd go with less food and order the pizzas one by one since we split them. The crust is a thin neapolitan style with plenty of chew, sauce is delicious san marzano tomato base, and mozzarella is bufala campagna. You can certainly get similar pizza, in terms of quality and ingredients, at Via Tribunali but Cornuto has a more intimate atmosphere. It would be good for long dinner with friends, a romantic first date, or a cozy conversation with family. Not sure if it's a good pick for kids, despite the ambient noise. Seating is limited but if you can snag a booth you'll want to sit there for hours tasting and riding the swell of conversation. Cornuto feels special, cozy in a festive way. Cornuta, apparently, means something like "leave your worries at the door." (Said while flashing the U Texas longhorn sign.) How did the italian language stumble into the same phrase for these two concepts? I started with the arugula salad, which comes with a wedge of fresh lemon, grated parmesan, and a few grinds of fresh pepper. Very well done, especially for winter season. As for pizzas, we ordered three. Because the crust is so thin, we would recommend ordering them one at a time so that you can eat each one while it's hot, before the crust gets soggy. The sauce isn't heavy but he crust is just delicate. We did a pepperoni, a sausage, and a pesto vegetable. The pepperoni were dime sized and spicy. Sausage was a sliced veal meatball, which crisped up slightly in the oven and would be a good pick for gentler palates. The flavorful pesto, a heavier sauce than the tomato base, had roasted red peppers and splotches of goat cheese. Because of the crust, this pizza doesn't make great take out. That said, I'm eating leftovers at 3:00 in the morning so it clearly maintains some of the deliciousness ;) My favorite part of the neapolitan experience is dipping my crust remnants into a slurry of pizza topping and olive oil. Cornuto's olive oil is divine -- perfect for this practice. While I'm not typically a tiramisu fan, we ordered one to share and I'm glad that we did. It had a subtle coffee flavor, proportional layering of cream and ladyfingers, and a truly nice finish to a meal with so many stand out ingredients. Sure, you can find similar pizza elsewhere in Seattle. But this atmosphere is special and the service was the best I've found for a pizza spot like this one. read more

We just went back here for dinner tonight, and since it had been so long since my last review, it seemed like a fitting time for a review update! The pizza is fantastic. As I said previously, it is very similar to the Tutta Bella style. I had the Buffalo Mozzarella pizza, and my husband had the Americano - they were both delicious. There are a couple of downsides to the restaurant though. They have no cider and a limited beer selection. The restaurant is very small so you have to arrive at the perfect time or else you have to wait or sit at the bar or at one of the high tops. They have these tiny tiny water glasses. I don't understand why they are so small. They had to refill our glasses 5-6 times. Just get normal sized glasses! Overall I feel like the quality of the pizza is good enough that it outweights the negatives, but there are also some easy improvements they could make that would make it better to me (more drink selection, bigger water glasses). Still 4 stars cause I love the pizza and the location is fantastic right in Phinney Ridge! read more

But apparently Yelp, unlike Congress, doesn't believe in freedom of speech. So we waffled about how to go about revising our review--originally we made a move to plead the Fifth cuz we couldn't plead the First--but go ahead and exercise your right to assembly at Cornuto. The pizza's decent (in fact, call your lawyer--the Americano is so good it should be illegal! And the mushroom is covered in at least Two Fist-fuls of delectable fungus). The house wine is cheap and alcoholic (so don't imbibe too much, or else remember to arrange for a designated driver, it's the responsible thing to do.) One of the things we like about Caffe Vita, sister institution to the Via Trib / Cornuto franchise, is that their coffee exudes organic, responsibly-sourced, fair trade deliciousness--it's an ethic that says 'you should know, and care, where your food is coming from.' This is the pizzeria that inspired me to review any previously highly rated pizzerias, and demote them to 3-4 stars. I mean, I went through 22 pages and 219 reviews, and edited each and every one related to pizza. I bet you want to dig through my old reviews now, dontcha' ? IT'S THAT GOOD. Stopped in for take away pizza last night (my husband had attended the Beervana beer tasting at the PNC and needed some dinner STAT!) and decided to try the newest pizza place on the Ridge. Cornuto was very busy; sidewalk seating was packed and the bar and booths almost seemed overfull with patrons, but the place still seemed very laid back and the vibe was good. Lots of laughing and the clinking of glasses. It didn't have that stressful, overcrowded feeling that you sometimes get in small spaces like that. It seems that they've used what little space they have very well, because even when full, it didn't feel like you're standing on top of the people next to you. There only seemed to be two waiters, but we were helped right away and given a menu to make our choice. They have a lot of pizza options, but we had no trouble deciding on the Davola and Tre Formaggio pizzas. After placing our order, we literally waited less that 10 minutes before two piping hot pizzas were delivered right into our hands. Chatting with (who seemed to be) the manager at the bar as we paid, he let us know that they were unusually slammed that night but invited us back to eat in and, noticing the little one we had in the back pack, let us know that kids are not only allowed, but welcome. We thanked him and headed home to try out our pizzas. We were very impressed! It was your basic wood-fired, thin crust pizza but the crust was very crispy and the toppings fresh and tasty. The Davola included tomatoes, basil, and some very spicy circles of sausage and was practically inhaled by my husband. Yes, he was hungry but he also commented that this was great pizza and the sausage was spiced just right for him. I stole a sausage from his plate and tried it and, while it was definitely spicy, it also had a lot of good flavor. Yum! I'm a cheese lover so the Tre Formaggio was perfect for me. I believe the cheeses were mozzarella, gorgonzola, and parmesan, but gorgonzola is a particularly potent cheese and that flavor trumped the others. However, I love gorgonzola so I was in my happy place! Again, the crust was crispy even with the cheese on top and the whole pizza just had a smooth and creamy taste. Very good....I ended up eating 3 pieces of this one (there goes my diet, but boy was it worth it!). Though it's a thin crust pizza, and it was crispy, it wasn't like a cracker with little substance and a lot of crumbs all over the place....there was a lot of good texture there and the crusts at the edges had some chewiness to it that I like after devouring all of the topping-filled center. Overall, great pizza! We'll definitely be back to enjoy another pizza and perhaps try out their happy hour. Cornuto is a great addition to the neighborhood. Why only 4 stars instead of 5? I was recently talking with a neighbor about our local pizza place when he commented, "yes, [neighborhood pizza place] is great but have you been to Cornuto?" Never trying it ourselves and trusting our neighbor's vast pizza knowledge, we immediately added it to our must-try list. I'm so glad we finally made it there today because we had a great meal!! The tomato soup was rich in flavor and a really good starter size - plenty to share with a companion. The crostini was not only delicious but also toasted perfectly to be crunchy without cutting the roof of your mouth - yes! The pizza was really yummy! The crust seemed a bit thicker than other wood fire joints, which we liked. There is a good selection of toppings and the sauce is flavorful with just the right amount of saltiness. It's served with olive oil and chill oil which was fun for my spice loving hubby. I so wish we had saved room for dessert because as we were leaving the chef was cooking up something with Nutella that looked to die for! On top of the great food, we also had friendly and attentive service. Heather, the manager, invited us back to what sounds like an awesome happy hour complete with free pizza every day from 5-6 pm. We plan to take her up on that invite. One thing to be aware of, it is small and probably best for first dates, intimate dinners or cozy get-togethers with close friends. A local place in a great neighborhood. Truly one of the best wood fired pizzas. I'm fortunate enough to be about 15 blocks away so I can happily walk to Cornuto, have a great dish, many martinis and wine and try walking home. Some of the people that work there know me and my fiancé when we walk in and it's a great feeling. I recommend really any of the pizzas and the clam pasta dish. Martinis, wine, beer...it really doesn't get much better. I'd like to comment on the happy hour but I don't want my favorite pizza/pasta place getting too crowded ;) read more

Stellar service, one of the very few reasons for me to update a review. And Cornuto has it! We started as a party of four and ended up as a party of five. If you've read my previous review, I mentioned how very small Cornuto's dining space is and how hard it is to even fit four comfortably in their booths, much less five. We arrived around 7pm last night (a Monday) and found the place packed - all booths filled and only one tall bar table available in front, definitely no room for five people around the one tall table. The bartender (she's been there a long while, short dark curly hair, always friendly and helpful) told us to go ahead and sit at the bar and we could grab a booth once one opened up. She gave all of us menus and water, and when she realized that it was going to be awhile for the one booth that would accommodate five (it's the one in the very back, right before you hit the hallway to the outdoor deck), she mentioned this to us. Crestfallen, we realized that since our little group had a lot of catching up to do and remaining seated in a long line at the bar just wasn't going to work (hard to have a five-person conversation). We thanked our bartender and headed out the door to look for another spot for dinner. We must have all looked like lost sheep, wandering to and fro on the sidewalk outside, as after about 45 seconds our wonderful bartender ran out of Cornuto, found us about 100 yards down the sidewalk, and let us know that the other tall table in front was now available as the couple who was seated there previously was moving to a booth that has opened up. She said to just push the tow tables together and there'd be plenty of room. We trooped back in, so happy to be back in the land of amazing pizza smells, pushed the tables together and settled in. The service from our bartender (and server) remained amazing throughout our meal. At the end, when one credit card was declined, she took the time to write a tasteful note at the top of the receipt rather than crassly calling out the declined card to the entire group. This pizza place disappointed me not once but twice. First as one of 3 couples in the shop for the day you would expect prompt service. You would be incorrect the server was nice but inattentive. The pizza is mediocre at best. I would liken it to soggy cardboard lightly toasted on a grill smeared with the barest of toppings and sliced into 4. The prices are laughable ($6 for lemonade) the food is forgettable and the service is meh. If you would like to spend money for the sake of it and leave unsatisfied this is the place for you. read more

I'd give the pizza a 4 and the rest of the experience a 3, so since 3.5 isn't possible and the latter was more memorable, a 3 it is. There's plenty of pizza places in the area but few Neapolitan ones. Thus, I was excited to see newbie Cornuto thrown into the mix, as traveling south to Tutta Bella is usually farther than I'd like. We decided to get takeout tonight and had a mixed experience. Located right next to Caffe Vitta and a block away from Carmelita, Cornuto is relatively easy to find and parking can generally be found down a side street. The ambience inside the restaurant itself leaves a lot to be desired. I had to do a double take as I first thought I had accidentally found the entrance to a bar - the bar being the most prominent and taking up a huge amount of space in the narrow room. A few cramped booths and high tables are crammed next to the bar, leaving very little space to walk and essentially no entryway. In theory there's a back area on the patio? But regardless, felt very clausterphobic and uncomfortable. Adding to the ambience IS A FULL PIG'S HEAD WEDGED BETWEEN A GIANT CLAMP right at the bar, being shaved away for eating. I get that seeing where the meat comes from can give you a better appreciation for food, but seeing this flat out grossed me out, especially prior to my meal. I get pretty sick when I eat more than a trivial amount of basil, so I asked if the eggplant caponata had any in it. The bartender, semi uninterested, said 'probably', went and asked one of the cooks, then came back again and said 'probably'. 'Probably' doesn't really help me - shouldn't the chefs know what's in the dishes they are cooking? Needless to say I played it safe and didn't order. PIzza itself was ok but soggy as others have mentioned. I had the Capricossa (tasty sauce and toppings, good pizza overall) and the husband had the Marinara. Both of us agreed they were good, but the crust wasn't exceptional and Tutta Bella is still cheaper and has more options for toppings. We'll likely try the place out again and maybe try some appetizers. I just can't see myself ever wanting to sit and eat there given the ambience. read more

(They don't have a website, so for those of you who don't know, happy hour is from 5-6pm) They have a few pizzas sitting out on the bar top, and you can just grab a plate and take what you want for *free.* Who doesn't love FREE food?! Drinks are not happy hour prices, ever, which is kind of a bummer. Had the Rye Witch, and it was incredible. Bartender was friendly and knowledgeable. The verde pizza was quite delicious. Was $15 and can feed probably 2 people if youre not super-duper starving. The pizza style reminds me a lot of Tutta Bella, but in a smaller more cozy atmosphere. SO GREAT. My husband and I recently moved from downtown Ballard up to Whittier Heights and have been enjoying our exploration of Phinney Ridge, and this restaurant has thus far been the stand out. First off, it is so cute and cozy and the patio outside looks beautiful. I'm a big fan of good ambience and this place has a great neighborhood vibe. Secondly, the service was absolutely fantastic, a good balance of the owner (I think?) and bartender stopping by to check in without being over bearing. Just nice, professional-but-personable guys. Third, I tried one cocktail and it was really delicious and unique (and strong...it snuck up on me!) My husband had red wine which was excellent for a house selection. Finally, and most importantly, the salad and pizzas were so good. The salad came with sautéed mushrooms (!!), awesome greens and vegetables and a delicious honey vinaigrette. We had a couple pizzas (yes, for two of us...we went a little nuts): the buffalo mozzarella and the sicilian tuna. I love wood-fired pizza and there's a few great places to get it in Seattle, but what set this pizza apart for me was the crust. You taste a subtle, delicious touch of salt that is complimented so well with their savory sauce and ingredients. It all works together to combine into this great flavor balance. I usually don't review restaurants but for this one I had to. This place has nice decorations and a nice interior but that's my only real complements I can give this restaurant. Once we sat down I noticed the very loud music made it very hard to talk to my partner and it had extremely dim lighting by candle making it so I could barely see my menu. We ordered three things; a cocktail, Caesar salad, and a pizza totaling around $44.00 including tax & tip. I don't drink so the cocktail seemed fine just a little water downed. The Caesar though was a major disappointment, the romaine lettuce was not cut and was served on a flat plate. Basically a head of lettuce had the butt chopped off then dressing was drizzled on top. This was very strange, impractical, and I really wondered why? Why do that? It's very lazy decision disguised as being a culinary artistic choice. A normal salad is chopped and tossed to evenly coat it. This isn't a new practice and I don't understand why do it, there is no reason to. There was also parmesan added but it like the kind you buy in packets or comes in a plastic container. Not real fresh cheese but a substitute. After dealing with the salad I knew that they would mess up the pizza and I was right. I don't know if the picture shows it well but the pizza had three things wrong with it; burnt crust, soggy center, and watery pizza sauce. I understand that it's wood fire pizza but every part of the crust was burnt and in some areas it was very charcoally(not a word). At home I could understand this but at a "pizzeria" that's a little low. The soggy center was not a surprise after seeing the burnt crust. It means that they did not know how to use their oven properly. The burnt crust meant too much heat in their oven. The excess heat burns the outside too fast making them unable to keep the pizza in long enough for the interior to cook causing the soggy doughy center. This uncooked center made the cheese just slide right off the dough. The watery pizza sauce was the cherry on top potentially relating to the improper use of their pizza oven but also their choice in sauce. To me it seemed like they simply blended tomatoes and called it a day. All in all this was a major disappoint and even though we did not spend a lot, you would really expect more from a place calling itself a "pizzeria". I give two stars because this has the potential to be a good place and the waitress was nice. They really need to work on their basics because this was not real pizza. I love this place! It's a block away, offers late night food, a nice back deck, and the food is perfect. The pizza has a thin crust, with the best toppings, cooked perfectly. The tiramisu is amazing. I could eat it every night. Erin and the chefs are very friendly. It is a little spendy, but so good. I like the Verde. And anything with prosciutto. read more

I must start out by saying, wood fire pizza is probably my favorite food and though their pizza might not be the very best wood fire pizza in town I keep coming back again and again. Partly I enjoy that its Phinney's wood fire pizza place and I love supporting a neighborhood joint. Also, atmosphere is really important to me and I love how cozy this place is, it reminds me of being at a pizzeria in New York and its so fun squeezing together on a romantic date. There's also a nice patio in back if you need some extra space or have a larger party. The Ridge is just kitty-corner from this place, but I enjoy going to both places for different reasons.
