This placed seemed hella promising based on its reviews + how crowded it was inside + how the pizza looked and smelled as soon as we opened the box. It only went downhill from there though haha The entire bottom of the pizza was moist (see da pics). While the ingredients seemed to be of high quality, together each bite was honestly pretty bland. The crust did have a nice crunchy texture to it paired with a soft, airy interior. But again, that was about the only part of the pizza that held any integrity at all just bc of how wet the bottom of the pie was lol. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt--maybe it's bc I ordered take out? Maybe it's much better when dining in? Perhaps it was just a one off. Idk. All in all, we still ate it but def was not worth the $40 we paid for it. I have never been here before but called in an order to be picked up to go. As I walked in for the first time it was nice and dark inside. All that was missing was a couple of old Italian guys wearing pinky rings sitting in a corner booth. It has a real neighborhood vibe to it, and the next time I'm in town I would like to eat here. The pizza was very good. I'm not much of a deep dish guy, which seems to be a thing in Seattle, so I asked for a thin crust which they said they could do. I think we have different ideas on what a thin crust is, as I didn't see it but yeah, the pizza is still pretty good; a bit on the thick side, but the ingredients were fresh and there was plenty of cheese on top. read more

Such a great spot! The wings were really good, although I do I wish they had a bit more sauce, but the size and taste made up for it. The favorite of the pizza was the meat lovers, it was packed with so much meat and the cheese pulls we got were insane. The bbq pizza was good, but I prefer one with banana peppers and cilantro over pineapple. Aside from the food service was really great! We were directed to a booth that would comfortably fit our bigger group and the staff checked in on us periodically as we waited for our food. O M G. I have finally decided if I can only eat one pizza for the rest of my life I want it to be The Nina pizza from Varlamos. It is the most amazing pizza ever. Hubby & I have been getting pizzas here for over 10 years. We love to get half & half pizzas because it's basically getting 2 pizzas in one and we like playing the flavors back & forth. Our second favorite is The Laurelhurst. Nice chunks of chicken on it. We still need to dine in and try pastas. But we still love grabbing a pizza or calzone to go. read more

When you walk into the restaurant, you can sit anywhere you want but will need to go to the waiter/waitress who is located in the back. The vibes is more like a bar or pub than a normal restaurant so they will as you after you order, if you want to keep your tan open or close it. They also serve beer, more drinks in the bar (bar-lamos). The waitress we had was nice and attentive to our needs such as utensils, water, and napkin. My brother first introduced me to this place, mainly for its calzones. Which by the way are FOOTBALL SIZE! For the price you pay, which is $20, the portion is huge and is stuffed inside. All calzones come with a side salad and they will ask you which dressing you'd like your salad with. The first time I went, I got the meat lovers calzone and it has great cheese pull. Not to mention, the bread is perfect consistency too, crunchy and soft, not too dry either. The second time I went, I ordered the clucker calzone and was able to substitute pepperoni for chicken with no change in the price, talk about flexibility with the menu! My friends got the meat lovers pizza and there is literally a layer of meat in the pizza dough part, they wouldn't get enough and said that the pizza tasted amazing They also got chocolate chip cookie and ice cream which was devoured in minutes. The cookie comes warm so it pairs very well with the cool vanilla ice cream. Overall this place is 10/10 worth it, you can come here for good vibes and it is pretty accessible. The 75 bus will take you there directly for anyone interested and living around the UW area. There is also accessible parking nearby (it doesn't belong to the restaurant but you can park there for a certain amount of time) Give it a try if you're ever in the area and are hangry for some good food ! read more

Varlamos was a pleasant surprise in an incredible mediocre Seattle pizza scene. I'm normally anti-pineapple-on-pizza, but it was a really nice touch on the bbq chicken pie. This thing comes with LOADS of cheese and huge chunks of chicken. The pizza is very bread-y with super fluffy crust. If you're into the thin crust style of pizza, then this probably isn't for you. I'd like to go in there to eat a fresh pie someday, since I don't think it's completely fair to judge a pizza that you bring home after 20 minutes. Overall very solid tasting pizza with good consistency (holds its own weight, not incredibly floppy). It looks like they have a pretty cool dive bar scene in there where you might meet some local pool sharks. Definitely would try again. read more

Stumbled upon this place in between shopping at uvillage and headed to City People we were going to grab a snack and beverage at JAKs but the weren't open till 4:30 and we were parked out front at 4 so we walked down the block when we saw Varlamos sign. We decided to sit at the bar you can tell it's very much a neighborhood go to we saw a family come in to get their mason jar of salad dressing by the interaction with the staff they seem to stop by often. The bartender who was also our server snd the main dining room was friendly. They're in the middle of construction on the space next door which will be their bar instead of the small space they currently have in the restaurant but it's not disruptive at all you wouldn't even know. One of the drink specials was Deep Eddy Pomegranate with I asked if I could have Ruby Red instead of the the Pomegranate and it was not a problem. I was pleasantly surprised when we received or drinks in highballs and even more so when I saw it only cost $7 a piece. We were going to go with a couple of appetizers but decided to split a sandwich and the fried mozzarella instead pretty sure the sticks were house-made by the way they were coated We had the $15 Unconventional BLT: Bacon, Canadian-style bacon, chipotle mayo & mozzarella on French bread served up hot & finished with fresh, crisp lettuce & tomatoes. He brought is the salad split which was still generous servings per person. When he brought the sandwich out he have us a couple of smaller plate. the sandwich was gigantic so glad we split it we actually couldn't eat all of our halves. Bothe the mozzarella sticks and the sandwich came out piping hot. Anyone who knows me, knows I hate it when food comes out like it's been sitting around for awhile. Best Pizza!!! This is our go to pizza place. The dough is delicious and there's plenty of cheese that you get a beautiful cheese pull. We usually just order a Large sausage pizza so that there is some left over for my BF to take to work. I always order a Cesar salad. It's really good here and they give you a slice of lemon. Most places don't. There's a cute bar connected to the restaurant so you can order any drinks you want. Mondays use to be Calzone days but they don't have that anymore. I visited place after reading so many reviews and ordered a 3 topping 10in pizza and spinach fingers. Unfortunately not my type. I ordered a thin crust but got a pizza that was soooo thick and deep dish. It was disappointing as I had hoped it to be thin and light. I am not a huge fan of cheese and both my pizza and spinach was overloaded with cheese. However, the order was quickly prepared and the pizza was very fresh . Carl Amos is one of my favorite pizza spots in town. Located near UW, most of our wait staff was students, so be patient with them. The bbq chicken pizza is absolutely tasty! And I love their cheesy bread, my fave in town! They have a bar area now which I've only gotten to visit once. The owner was working that day and has such a positive attitude. I came here to try the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. My friend summed it up perfectly when he said, "I can't tell if that's supposed to be ground beef or Italian sausage." Steak, it's supposed to be steak. And when your steak tastes like a cross between ground beef and Italian sausage, that's a problem. All of the cheese had melted off to one side of the sandwich. You couldn't taste the peppers or onions at all. The bread was super hard and crusty. I didn't want the salad that was supposed to come with it. I didn't think to ask if I could substitute anything for it. I was kind of annoyed about paying $16.75 for a single sandwich, but that's partially my own fault. The Philly cheesesteak here might be somebody's idea of a good sandwich, but it's definitely not what I was looking for. read more

Somewhat ok service, 8/10 Delicious food. Personally I've had pepperoni pizza but I've never had a pizza as delicious as the pizza served here. Fresh cheese and pineapple pizza and pepperoni. A successful restaurant has fresh ingredients. Authentic? What do I know lol I think IT IS. The shrimp and calzone are also delicious and made well. I would recommend this place for date night with your significant other or family and friends. The environment is perfect for romantic evenings and again or family. The service could be better. If the waitress sees empty glass cups, they should ask if we need more water. Just advice. I would give this place a 5/5 but the service needs slight help otherwise the food is amazing. read more

I've been coming to Varlamo's for years. I love this place and wish I lived closer. Their food is always amazing! My absolute favorite is the chicken salad. It's the best salad - perfect toppings of cheese, tomato, onion, cucumbers, chicken & salami. Try it! I promise you won't be sorry! On today's occasion, we decided to also try the gluten-free pizza crust. It was very good. It was loaded with cheese. (too much for my partner, but not for me). I lived just behind Varlamos for two years, and I wasn't the biggest fan. I recently ate here for the first time in a couple of years, and I swear that their food has gotten better. My family and I shared a couple of calzones, a pizza, and a pasta dish, and everything was a hit. They have great daily deals, the best of which is probably their football-sized calzone for $8 on Mondays, which was a big hit with many of my friends. That includes three toppings, and extra ones are just $1. A large percentage of the calzone is just bread though, so I recommend getting a dipping sauce on the side. We really wanted to like this neighborhood place and wanted to support it... We ordered a bunch of food - large pizza and two dishes between the two of us for take out. The person on the phone needed me to repeat the order many times. Maybe she was distracted. She was nice overall. She said it would be ready in 20 minutes but it was more like 30-40 minutes. The eggplant parmesan was mealy in its consistency. The chicken parmesan wasn't much better. It came with two little spaghettis, which we didn't need and didn't taste great. The side salad had a ton of cheese on it that I ended up taking off and feeding it to my dog for the week. The pizza was too greasy, salty and cheesy. The food overall was too salty and cheesy. We like salt and cheese but this was too much for us. I think with a little tweaking the place could do better. We long for a New Jersey style mom and pop Italian place like my partner grew up with but the search continues. read more

Bad food bad service. We came here hoping to get the $8.95 calzone special on Mondays, and wow the service here is terrible. First, it took 45 minutes for the food to come out, the food was very mediocre, and then they charged us more than the website. We tried to flag the waiter down like 8 times to get it fixed, and finally when he came, it took him another 5 minutes (handing two ladies their food and stuff) to bring it back to us! I was a bit disappointed in the quality of the food and service. Maybe the chef was different on a Sunday night? I don't know but the service, although very friendly, was not very attentive. Mostly absorbed in their own conversation. The cheese bread was absolutely delicious! But the entree (tortellini Bella peppa) was not up to par. I have been dining at Varlamos for 20 years (since I was in college). Not only is the food incredible, the staff is young, fun and the definition of superior customer service. I now have a family (wife and 4 kids in elementary school) and without a doubt, this is our favorite place to dine. It's family-friendly and you never feel rushed to finish your meal. The owner, Kosta Varlamos, is often onsite helping in the kitchen or making rounds to each table to make sure everything is up to satisfaction; and, it always is. Their calzones and pizzas are legendary and my favorite meal is the "Gangster Pizza." If you are a fan of spice and pizza, you must try this! Nice location in Laurelhurst close to UW and Children's Hospital. To park, you lap the block until you can find a spot to parallel park on the street. Booths are comfy and spacious. They have a few big TV's going with local sports playing. They use a weird service model where there isn't a waiter or waitress. Instead, you order at a desk in the back, and people drop off your food when it's ready. There's no basic human service interaction that might include your typical "how is everything," "My name is Mary, and I'll be taking care of you," or "can I get you anything else." Just drop it off and walk away stone-faced. Now the food... Sizable side salads with cucumber, tomato and a lot of cheese come free with entrees and are served first. Many Italian restaurants serve a bread basket with the entree or salad. Not here. This is not to say that the bread basket was needed; you just want to be aware of it if you expect bread. Ordered soft drinks. One came out 2/3 full. The second came out completely full. Servers let them empty and never refilled them. Ordered two pasta dishes. When asked, the cashier didn't know the ingredients or preparation of them, so we gambled with our orders. One was gnocchi. The gnocchi was cooked right and had fresh spinach and tomatoes, but was swimming in about 1/4 cup of oil or butter so that every bit was wet. It tasted fresh but a bit bland and way too wet to taste much except for the oil. The second dish was described as chicken with vegetables, pasta and marinara sauce. It had really good flavor and the chicken and pasta were well- cooked. However, just like the gnocchi, the chewable ingredients were swimming in too much sauce so you couldn't taste the dish over the sauce. Both dishes came with a big piece of buttered garlic bread cut in half. We were full from our pasta, so couldn't enjoy the bread. I suspect that pizza is their specialty more than the pasta. If you order pasta and like to taste the pasta itself, I would suggest that you ask for the sauces on the side so you can add less sauce to be able to taste the other ingredients. read more

This place is outstanding and always has been! Kosta and Judy the owners are extremely friendly and welcoming and provide an awesome local and family feel to the restaurant. The food?? Ummmm yea some of the best I've had, I'll thrown out some of my faves the Spaghetti w meat sauce, unconventional BLT hot sub, calzones, my Hawaiian pizza w mushrooms and the Hummus and pita bread plate. Oh and all the salad dressings r house made and excellent! Scale of 1-10 it's a 12 and the atmosphere in the dining room and bar r super relaxed, fun and the service is constantly on point and friendly. Never had a bad experience. Go there NOW! read more
