    Shaking Tofu with Fried Rice

Enjoyed this place, it's considered "modern Vietnamese" we enjoyed this place a lot. Simple menu, and portions sizes are decent. I read this review about the banh canh, so I ordered it. And it's good!!! If we come back I want to try the pho and a few other things Service was great! And ambiance is nice and clean, plenty of parking around as well. There's also a beer menu for beer enthusiasts

There are a lot of Vietnamese options around this area, but this one is definitely worth trying out! I was in the mood for pho and in the area around lunch. I branched out and tried the lemongrass beef broth soup instead of pho. It was a treat and will have to become another go-to. It was plenty of soup for me to also have dinner. The broth and beef were so flavorful and hearty. The Vietnamese coffee was great too, super strong as Vietnamese coffee is and definitely a pick me up. The server was nice and it was a cute little place.

What a great find. Little touches like the drink menu and chopstick box were things that made the restaurant special. Delicious brisket fried rice and tofu stir fry were perfectly cooked and flavorful. Several beers to choose from and they also do flights.

Came here really wanting to try their fish sauce chicken wings. They have a modern interior decor with hanging light bulbs and plenty of natural lighting. Servers are quick and attentive. The tables are already set with a cool set of mugs and silverware, but had to ask for napkins. We got the corner 99 fish sauce chicken wings (appetizer) for an entree with a side of white steamed rice (extra $2). I got the banh canh cua soup. Chicken wings 5/5. Definitely tasted way better than it looked. Fresh, well seasoned and cooked. Amazing fish sauce flavor and not too watered down. Perfectly fried. Banh canh 5/5. Came with extra chili flakes and lime. The tapioca noodles were a bit slightly over cooked for my personal taste-- I like them a bit chewier. But the broth was so good, finished the entire bowl. The 3 shrimps were colossal, and the crab meat and pork were plentiful. Very satisfied with this meal and no longer will need to make our own fish sauce chicken wings. This place is legit!

Myself and my family have been coming to Corner 99 since it opened. We can order off the menu without even looking because we all know exactly what we've come for. Over time I've felt as though I may have been overreacting but our last visit solidified that we won't be back. Cleanliness and sanitation is of the utmost importance when I'm out dining with my family. There's no telling what happens in the kitchen but we of course can see what happens otherwise. One waiter that has been there a while has consistently bad dandruff. I let it go initially because he didn't serve us our food but in the back of my mind it was unsettling to think that could be flying into the food. This past Sunday we went and the man serving our food put a dish on the table and proceeded to sniff and wipe his nose with his hands before taking so much as a step back from the table. Not just a one off, repeatedly. I counted 3 times. He then proceeded to wipe his nose with his shirt and pick at his nose as he went to grab a cup of hot water I requested. He also got on his phone and took a call only to go back serving. My husband politely asked him to return the cup and wash his hands to which he obliged. That did it for me though. I was absolutely disgusted. That hot water was requested because we soak our silverware due to it coming in this community box that sits on the tables now instead of individually distributed utensils. This done in order to enjoy a place we've come to from the beginning but it's just not worth it at this point. Hopefully some training will take place and more sanitary practices will begin for their current and future customers. They deserve at minimum, that. We, unfortunately, won't be back. To be clear, I did ask for the manager but was told they left after a large party was served earlier that day.

Cute little Vietnamese restaurant. Service was good. We ordered: - Pork skewer | 7.5/10 - Tender and flavorful - Salt and pepper calamari | 5/10 - Too salty and wasn't crispy - Bánh canh cua | Didn't try, but my mom said she would not order it again - Smoked brisket pho | 7/10 - Liked the brisket, pretty solid pho - Hot cheek dumpling | 5/10 - Dumplings were already falling apart before I even ate any. Wasn't bad, but wouldn't get again - Shaking tofu with fried rice | 5.5/10 - Sauce was pretty good, paired well with the rice. But tofu wasn't crispy at all which was disappointing - Thai green milk tea | 7/10 - A bit too sweet at first sip, but tasted better once the ice melted more

The banh canh cua was FIRE!! The broth was so flavorful and they did not skip out on the crab meat. This has got to be the best banh canh in Houston. Brisket Bun Bo hue was good however I think I would get the normal one next time. I personally don't think brisket goes with BBH however my fiance seems to really like it! The broth was flavorful and overall a great dish. Great customer service and very clean restaurant. Very cute ambience!

Great food, great service, great beer. Can't wait to go back again soon and try some more menu items!

I previously gave this restaurant 5 stars but lately the customer service is lacking. The food is still delicious but I'm going to try another Vietnamese place in the area a friend told me about and see if their service is good. Corner 99 used to have a woman who worked there was very good and knew her regulars and anticipated needs like extra sauce before you even asked. Hire her back if you can

With so many new places opening in Town, the possibilities are endless. There is literally something new up and getting up every week. I was looking for a banh mi restaurant, and my Google search told me I could get one here. I stopped by on a Friday evening. They were busy, but as soon as I walked in, I was greeted and handed a menu. This restaurant is cute and moody. They do have a bar with a variety of beverages. I took my time in reviewing the menu and unfortunately, the banh mi was nowhere to be found. I confirmed with the waiter, and they, indeed do not serve it here, thanks Google lol I believe they used to serve it in the past, as Google had some images of them (promise I'm not losing it lol ). For around $28, I ended up with the shaking beef, eggrolls, and eggrolls. The food was great, more details below! I will definitely be back again. My only feedback was I thought the portions were a little small especially for the main entrée. I still had enough for two meals but for the $15 price range I definitely expected a bit more. Parking is decent, but if you know this area, you know, Friday nights and weekends parking can be tricky. Their customer service was great. I was even offered a beverage upon waiting for my to go order. Okay now for the food! Shaking beef with steamed rice - 4/5 loved the veggies and sauce Egg rolls - 4/5 some of the best I've had. Fish sauce was on point Pork skewers - 5/5 flavorful and tender

Owner was super nice.. love supporting local businesses!

Shaking Beef was the best I've ever had! Can't wait to try the pho which also uses filet minon. Great meeting the owner... super nice. Incredible staff, food and ambiance. Definitely coming back, especially for the Wednesday happy hour on beers and bahn mi's.

    Alex N.

Well, I was impressed about the spot. A nice modern spot for Vietnamese food. The skewers are probably the best skewers of any type that I've tried before, the meat was, flavorful however, the beef was my least favorite. It was two and tender for me. The tofu dish was really good, up there when it comes to tofu dishes. The service was a little bit lackluster, there was no napkins on any tables and I had to weigh them down a couple times for things. I wish there was more comfortable seating benches were uncomfortable.

This place delivered where it mattered most, especially with the highly reviewed appetizers. Probably one of my favorite drinks here was the Thai Green Tea. It has a really interesting flavor that stands out from regular Thai Tea -- more earthy, but not quite like matcha (we guessed there might be pandan in it). Just a heads up: it's definitely on the sweeter side. My partner and I actually let the ice melt a bit before continuing to drink it, which helped balance things out. I came back a second time and still loved it just as much. The dipping sauce felt like a truly authentic representation of Vietnamese cuisine. It was a lightly diluted fish sauce with spicy red pepper and plenty of garlic -- simple but really flavorful. I also appreciated that the table setup let you customize it to your taste. In my first experience here, we ordered the Bánh Xèo, Bánh Khọt, and Bánh Bột Chiên. I was hands down a huge fan of the ginormous Bánh Xèo -- crispy, flavorful, and just overall my favorite (though I'll admit I'm a little biased toward it already). Meanwhile, my boyfriend completely fell in love with the crunchy Bánh Khọt. That said, I did notice a slight graininess in the Bánh Khọt, which took away a few points for me. The Bánh Bột Chiên was solid and got a pass from us, but it wasn't our top pick -- mostly because we've had better versions elsewhere. Other worthy notes: the herbs were fresh and crisp, and the pickled vegetables were refreshing as well (though my boyfriend thought they could've been a bit more strongly pickled). Eating everything the traditional way -- wrapping it in lettuce with herbs -- made the whole experience even better. Honestly, I would come back just to order two Bánh Xèo. I actually came back a second time before posting this review, this time with my family. We ordered the Bắp Xào, Cơm Chiên Bò Lúc Lắc, and a simple rice dish. This visit was a bit different -- across the board, we all agreed the dishes leaned too salty this time around. I could also tell the staff was overwhelmed, with only two people handling both the front and the kitchen, so it was tough to get their attention at times. That said, the Bánh Xèo still held its ground. My parents were genuinely impressed by the size, and for me, it's still an absolute banger -- something I'd come back for again and again purely for flavor and value. The Bắp Xào really stood out to me in a nostalgic way. I loved the use of traditional Vietnamese corn, and the sautéed dried shrimp brought back memories of flavors from dishes I grew up eating, even if I couldn't quite pinpoint which one. While my mom thought it was too salty, I actually felt like it would pair perfectly with a bowl of plain white rice. I also tried some of my brother's Cơm Chiên Bò Lúc Lắc and found the beef to be tender and flavorful, though not particularly standout compared to other places. I've had very similar versions nearby, but it's still my brother's go-to -- though I suspect that might also be his way of loading up on protein. Overall, even with the inconsistency during the second visit, I still really enjoy Yummy Quan -- especially for the appetizers. It's a place I'd bring family and friends to try, and I'm still curious about more of the menu... but realistically, I could live life on Bánh Xèo alone. At the end, you also get to grab some guava candy, and for anyone who's never had these, don't forget to pick some up -- they're simply delectable!

We saw on the door that they're BYOB? Thai Green Tea (4.5/5): Really sweet but with some pretty unique grassy/herbal notes! (Pandan??) Would recommend if they can adjust the sweetness down a notch. We let the ice melt a bit and it made for a great palatte cleanser. Banh Xeo (4.5/5): Definitely one of their signature dishes. I read the reviews on how large it was and it was still shocking! See my hand for reference. It's crispy and delicious. Two downsides: Not enough protein, and not enough lettuce to make wraps with how big it is. But overall, definitely one of the best I've had outside of homemade. Banh Khot (4/5): These little flavor explosions are a perfect bite size and are also a signature dish. Would definitely recommend. A few of ours were light on the pork. Banh Bot Chien (3.5/5): I was dying to try this since there is really one famous spot for it. Their version is very good, but misses on the crispiness. The inside texture and pairing sauces and radish were all very good, it just needed a little more crisp. I love that they give extra garlic and spice and basically let you customize the intensity of your fish sauce to your preference. Paid with no issues via inKind at the counter. We definitely left stuffed and would come back!

We got the roti canai and salt and pepper calamari as appetizers, and the sizzling tofu, beef rendang, CK teow as entrees. - Sizzling tofu (6/5): A MUST TRY! I've never had tofu with this texture before. The outside is slightly crisp and the inside so light and fluffy, it feels like bitting into a cloud. The tofu tastes like a creamy egg soufflé and the sauce is savory and salty with pieces of sauté onions that add a nice crunch. The presentation was also very striking with the server pouring the sizzling sauce over the tofu. It's just such a beautiful dish that I would go back solely for! - Beef rendang (4.5/5): Overall a delicious and hearty dish. The beef was very tender and juicy, and there was a generous amount of it. The potatoes soaked up the sauce very well and made the dish extra filling. I forgot if we got to pick a spice level, but the dish had a nice kick to it and wasn't overwhelming spicy. - "CK teow" char kway teow (4/5): This dish had a lovely char tasted to it that made it very addictive. Just a nice savory noodle dish. I think my only complaint was that the portion was on the smaller side - Salt & pepper calamari (3.6/5): This was a pretty good calamari. The calamari had a light and crispy exterior and was pretty tender and seasoned really well. The chunky veggies were a nice touch texture wise. - Roti Canai (3.6/5): the Indian bread was so nice and flakey, I could've eaten it alone. The curry was also really tasty and flavorful, just a little bit watery. Service/ambiance: Service was excellent and they gave us so much rice. The restaurant was dimly lit, giving it a nice ambiance for dinner or a date night.

Service was prompt and quasi friendly. I thought the broth was good despite having an overwhelming aroma of cinnamon. I requested for pho tuoi (fresh noodles) which are slightly bigger than the standard noodles they give you. However, I regretted this choice because many of my noodles were clumped together, distracting from the overall enjoyment of the meal. Additionally, I think there's a heavy usage of MSG in their broth because I felt loopy and very thirsty for water halfway through. Needless to say, I was only able to eat half of the generous serving. For those who are a fan of pho and appreciate generous portions, this place is definitely worth a visit. Their pho bowls are substantially larger than those I've encountered elsewhere, offering a potentially satisfying experience for the more voracious diner but for me, quantity is not enough of a reason to become a regular. At first it was just us and one other table, but not long after, more people started coming in, probably for lunch as well. The restaurant is pretty large, with both tables and booths, plus a big table for large groups. This is what we ordered: Combo Rolls This comes as a sampler with five different types of spring rolls. Regular spring rolls, nem nuong rolls (fermented grilled pork), grilled chicken, grilled pork, and shrimp only. I really liked this idea because it lets you try everything without having to order each roll separately. My favorite was the nem nuong roll. Bun Bo Hue I do not eat pork blood or pork loaf, so I substituted them with more tendon and beef meatballs. Because of that, I cannot really comment on how the pork tasted. The broth was okay but a little lacking in flavor. After I asked for shrimp paste, it tasted much better. Bo Kho (Beef Stew) This is my husband favorite dish, so he always orders it whenever a place has it. He ordered the one come with bread as dipping. He did not really like this one. It was not bad, but not great either. The flavor was missing, and the broth was more watered down than how he prefers it. Still, it is worth trying if you like beef stew. Overall, our experience was just okay. The service was fine, but the food did not leave a strong impression on us. We did not stay long since my husband had to get back to work. I would come back to try more dishes, especially pho. Since their name is Pho Guru, I feel like the pho might be better. My go-to order is the Bún Thịt Nướng (B2) -- the grilled pork is perfectly seasoned and cooked, the noodles are light, and the vegetables are incredibly fresh. I also love the garden rolls with pork or shrimp. What really sets them apart are the sauces: tangy, balanced, and flavorful without being overly sweet.
