My issue was finding someone to cure the clicking death noise. When I stepped into the store, I was immediately greeted by one of the nice employees. Upon initial inspection of the clicking death noise, they suggested that I need to find a computer service shop with a clean room. They suggested another competitor. (The type of place I know it'll be more than $400!) Upon further inspection, MacKendrick says they can take a look inside the hard drive as they know I don't want to spend $400 or more going to a clean room. After inspecting inside the hard drive, MacKendrick was able to transfer all the data into my new hard drive! The issue turn out to be a broken motherboard inside the old external hard drive of mine. Thus, I've paid $148 for the transfer and labor... much better than $400! MacKendrick is highly trustworthy. They tell you the truth, no curveballs. And, they are friendly!

The person who helped me was Andrew, and he was extremely helpful. As he wrote up his estimate, it was obvious that this is a great place to get a computer repaired, or to purchase reconditioned computer. Very competitive labor rates, and they do not gouge the customer for inexpensive supplies like thermal paste. But, I trusted Jeff and his advice on the situation and his recommended solution. Recently, another friend of mine had a lot of issues with her laptop, and I took it to Drop Zone. I worked with Jeff, who spent time to discuss his thoughts about the unit, and possible issues and solutions. My friend decided to follow his advice of diagnosing/repairing her solid/quality (though older) laptop instead of getting a new one. I dropped it off one day, and he spent more time on the phone with me, over the following few days, to listen to my thoughts and discuss various decisions to be made as he was working on the laptop. Jeff helped with updating the laptop (O/S, SSD Drive, replace Mobo battery, etc.) to a nice unit my friend can continue to use, hopefully many years. In mid November of 2025, I took my laptop in for repair because it wouldn't boot up and I needed it…read morefor my upcoming finals. It took about less than a week to get it back, but they said it had a faulty NVME so I needed to pay nearly $300 for a replacement. They also verbally said Windows couldn't load but the paper they gave back clearly stated it did boot. But by the time I took it home, I tested it out myself. I inserted the "so called faulty NVME" and my laptop DID boot up. I thought I still had a battery issue because it would only boot up while it was charging. I then saw they disconnected the thin wire to the battery which directed current from the power supply. They never plugged it back in. After finding that out, I did my own diagnostics and couldn't see any issues with my NVME. I used the Windows Powershell terminal to check on the NVME's health and there were no issues what so ever. I went back to ask what exactly the issue was and what actually got my laptop to turn on, because clearly it wasn't the NVME. The man got mad and wanted me to take down any review with the return of the $100, but I refused. I will never know what they did to get my laptop to turn on again, but I do know they scammed me into believing my OS couldn't boot and I needed their NVME replacement for $300... Usually NVMEs fail early on when getting a new laptop (infant mortality rate of 3-6 months) and I've had this laptop for many years now. NVMEs don't even have anything to do with the battery so this tipped me off. They used simple NVME health tools which I replicated (they mentioned CrystalDiskInfo) and saw NOTHING wrong. They either don't know what they're doing/talking about or they're intentionally scamming. Get your laptop issues fixed else where and save your money. They are not transparent and will create issues rather than fix it. Glad they turned on my laptop at least. That's all I needed. Do your own research as well and understand what EXACTLY they're telling you.

Mostly they pushed me to buy a new computer. Took the computer to Jason at Patriot Computer Solutions and he just said "give me a day, $90 for the service and a new charger if I can do it, free if I can't fix it". A couple days later and it was fixed for $90. My wife is thrilled as she loves this laptop. Thank you Jason!! I highly recommend Patriot Computer Solutions for any of your computer needs.

Says he'll call later that afternoon. The next day, I had to call HIM. He tells me it needs a new motherboard (exactly what I told him when I dropped it off) and he can't have it done for another 2 weeks. Long story short, I paid $90 for someone to tell me what I already knew. No receipt, no diagnostic report, no formal recommendation, nothing. Just a text confirming the charge... Find somewhere else.
