I've used Allocate twice for computer repairs, and both times they were professional and helpful. They helped me find the most cost-effective solution, showed me the issues, and explained their diagnosis. We compared the cost of repair versus replacement, and both times repairs were much cheaper. Other places had told me, "It's easier to replace" or "It costs too much," but that wasn't true! I also checked out their refurbished and custom-built computers, and if I ever needed a replacement, their deals are great. They're now my go-to for any computer repairs. read more

I've used Allocate tech numerous times. Their prices are extremely reasonable and they're quick and helpful. I've always had Apple MacBooks and they've replaced the screen. These guys are terrific. Had a terrifying experience with my computer being hacked. I took the computer into these guys and they worked on it while I waited. Several customers came while I was waiting and I could tell that these customers were repeat customers who were very happy with the service. I was in and out within an hour. The work was very reasonable so I ordered a new battery to go along with the service read more

What do you do if you are a Realtor, or some other type of independent contractor, and have no technical support? Based on past Yelp reviews, I thought I'd give Allocate Tech a try. I was delighted with their expertise. They fixed a problem with Outlook, that 2 other companies couldn't. Conveniently located near the big DMV building at the edge of Curtis Park. You'll love Alex and Mick! read more

A couple of keys on my Lenovo Yoga pc just didn't work anymore. I brought it over to Allocate to get it checked out. It took them a couple minutes to figure out what was wrong and give me a price for repair. They needed to order an assembly board. And when the parts came in, they fixed up my pc in about 2 hours. All good to go now. The whole process was so easy. Allocate is convenient, professional, courteous and timely. I highly recommend them! read more

After a long day of drinking wine in Amador County, we stumbled back to our guest house to play some computer games. It was there that my boyfriend's brother stepped on the charging port of my laptop and broke it. The port was shot and the laptop was doomed. Sadness. Or so I thought. I discovered Allocate Tech through a friend who swears by them, (she breaks computers a lot), so I decided to give them a try. I called, explained the situation and they gave me a quote. The quote was super reasonable and their explanation of the service was very informative. Their office is pretty standard and clean. These guys are super personable, which made me more comfortable. I really don't like just anyone fixing my computer, especially a part as delicate as the charging port. He said it would be finished in about three days, which was no problem for me. A few days later, I got a call saying to come and grab my baby. I was so excited to have my laptop back! It was totally fixed for under $150 including parts. They even gave my boyfriend some free parts for his desktop computer! read more

Recently, my laptop started acting peculiar. Double letters appeared in my emails, foreign characters popped up in website posts and whenever I typed a "t," it would bring up a search prompt. Imagine how hard it was to look up porn on Google! Relax, the last one as a joke. Seriously. I found Allocate Tech a couple of blocks south of the monstrous DMV building on 24th street. It's a family-run repair shop set in a simple and clean workspace. I was first greeted by a woman who asked what kind of trouble I was having. As I described the ghost in my machine, a young man approached from the back room and took over the discussion. He was very friendly and reassuring but had a very thick accent and I had some trouble understanding his explanations. Nevertheless, he wrote up an order--he suspected the keyboard just needed a good cleaning--and said it shouldn't be more than a couple of days. Cool. Two days later, I got a call and picked up my freshly-scrubbed pc with the offer that, should the problem return, Allocate would replace the keyboard free of labor charges. Nice touch. So, it's back to email, net surfing and Yelp for me. More posts, less gibberish thanks to Allocate. read more

5 stars for quality of work - 1 star for crappy business practices Took a Dell laptop in for a DC jack replacement - easy job for a decent shop. I had multiple quotes for around $100. Took mine here when I saw a website special for DC jack replacement for $99. They quoted me much higher at the counter and didn't know about their web ad. I showed them the ad on my phone and they suddenly remembered. Hmmmmmm Work was done OK, except they also charged me $30 for the part. This is a $5 part! Slight mark up. Again - good work - crappy business practices - will not use again...... read more

Several Months ago, or so, I called around for prices on fixing my laptops charging connection. I had estimates from about $225 to almost $300! I called Allocate Tech and they quoted me for much less. I dropped it off before closing, and I had it back the very next day. Too much time apart from my laptop is a bad thing. Just outside of midtown it's really convenient. read more

Alex at Allocate Tech is the best! Saved my super duper laptop from becoming an expensive paperweight! I am very impressed with the complete overhaul of my laptop! I contacted Alex to set up a wireless bridge for me between two buildings. I had a specific idea in mind and he used the parts I requested and was experienced with setting them up. His charges for both parts and labor (and travel, as I live far out of the area) were very fair, his bill was not "padded" and had no unexpected charges, and most importantly he did a good job. He came prepared, the equipment was pre-tested and set up as much as could be without being on location, and everything went very smoothly. He also helped without hesitation when I additionally asked him to set up a wireless printer connection while he was there. Alex is experienced and honest, thorough, and communicates well both in planning and to follow-up if necessary, and I would strongly recommend him to anyone or go to him in the future if necessary. read more

I have been taking our computers to this place since we moved to this neighborhood 15 years ago. They are reliable and always have done a great job for us. I am really happy with the work with my laptop and the speediness of the service. i trusted the workers' expertise very much. However, in spite of all of your great reviews, I was very disappointed this 2nd time. My husband dropped off the laptop, and he called later for a status. He was told that the job would cost $199 as he had already diagnosed the problem. I called later to confirm this but had no idea if this was appropriate for the job as I am not that savvy, but the decision was if it was worth saving the computer or buying a new one. When I picked it up, the total changed from$199 to $297. I stopped by the shop and was told that I ok'd this, as evidenced by an "ok" by the price. I never ok'd it, and if I had been told that the cost would be $297, He kept saying that I did ok it since the technician wrote ok on the work order. I do understand numbers, and I would have not had the work done, but rather would have bought a brand new computer. I went round and round with Alex about his flawed logic. He was nice about it, but he did not own up to the fact that there was a miscommunication. I will not go back to this business. It is unfortunate because I live in the neighborhood and wish to see small businessed succeed. I think that he would have kept my business had he met me halfway and charged me what I was told in the first place read more

Our computer was not allowing us to view the monitor. First, we went to Circular because it had received so many great Yelp reviews. But, maybe it was TOO popular since they had our computer a week but NEVER looked at it. So, my husband took it to Allocate Tech which had also received a lot of great Yelp reviews. And, we are very happy that we did. They checked out our computer within a day and we had it back in less that three days. We purchased additional RAM which they installed without charging any additional labor costs. Our computer runs great. In fact, it is probably better than it was when we bought it. The service was wonderful. We would definitely recommend this company to anyone looking for good computer service and a fair price. read more

My MacBook is about 7 or 8 years old and I have used the heck out of it so when it started having crashing problems I knew it was probably something major. I brought it to Alex and his staff and ask them to save it. The good news is.. They saved my computer and saved me the expense of a new Mac. The other good news is they gave me a break in some of the costs because they had my computer (the only bad news) for 5 weeks. To be fair, I did tell them no rush but still, 5 weeks was a long time. That's the only reason I don't give them 5 stars. Alex and his crew tackled several big issues with my computer and I am very happy with their integrity and the fact that they kept trying until they got it right. My computer is back home now where it belongs and I am super happy I chose this shop. I gave them a complicated job and they handled it! read more

Writing to recommend Alex and Allocate Tech to anyone with computer issues -- he saved my butt on short notice, and for a more than reasonable price. I called Alex at about 2:30 p.m. on a Saturday. My computer was acting up and I needed it fixed, pronto, so I could finish work-related projects before the end of the weekend. Alex had me bring my computer down to the store, where he quickly diagnosed the problem and began fixing it. The most amazing part is that the store closed at 5:00 p.m., yet he contined to work on my computer until it was fixed at approximately 6:30 p.m. Even after he spent 90 minutes of what should have been his Friday night fixing my computer, he charged me a very, very, reasonable rate. So thanks to Alex, and I would recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat. read more

Alex is very inexperienced and does not know original parts from fake ones. Would not recommend

I have used Allocate Tech 3 times however the last time was way below standard customer service. I do not know when the quality of Allocate took the trip "south" that it did (at least in my case) but I would NOT recommend them to anyone. I had always had Alex Vue (owner) service my computer and I was satisfied and even wrote a good review for him. The service calls included an upgrade to memory and a trojan once. The last visit is the one I am writing this for. (May 29, 2012) First thing it was not Alex who showed up at my home. An employee of his that I did not find - can i say - did not possess a good computer chair manner so to speak. At any rate he said he had to take it back to the shop and a virus was removed and the cost a whopping $180.00 and a few weeks later I looked and the dust hadn't even been blown out. I called Alex and he said "well you wanted it back as soon as possible" - Not a reason to me but an excuse for failing to do that small thing. Now here is the biggest gripe that I have - My Dell Dimension 510 was 6 years old and I did not know that was a long time for a computer to be running. At the very least they could have given me that information. And 3 months later one evening my computer took its last breath. In a period of two )2) years I paid Alex 555.00 for work on my computer. Anyone reading this can make their own decisions and judgements. I am a 75 year old retired analyst and not what I would call "techy challenged" but not as sharp certainly as are my children and those of their generation.. read more

it's hard to say that allocate did an 'excellent' job on helping me out with my "wireless connection" issue. it's fair to say that they didn't rip me off. however, they did not compress my hard drive, which they said (or I should say "he" because its pretty much a one man operation) needed to be done, and it took longer than estimated (by a couple of days). but i did get out of there with the market-rate external wireless device I needed. but i also popped in on them to find my pic files opened up... read more

I thought I wrote a review of this already. I went to Allocate because of Yelp; and was sorely disappointed. Would not give me an estimate without looking at my computer, then wanted a minimum (I think it was $65 or $75) to install a driver; all I wanted to know was why I couldn't install it. Turned out that I just wasn't waiting long enough; I thought it was hanging. I could not understand the guy at the counter; his English was not very good, and he was not friendly. On the other hand, I was really pleased with the service at Cingular read more

My first experience was great. My computer was down and I had no idea why. I brought my computer in and all it was was my power cord went out. I purchased a new power cord for around $70, which came with a 90 day warranty. I left happy. However, literally 96 days later, the new power cord went out. I called Allocate and explained the situation- that the cord was just out of warranty, but that it was my feeling that the cord should really last longer. The gentleman on the phone agreed with me and asked me to bring my computer in and "We'd see what we could do". I drove down and a different gentleman came to help me. He said he would be more than happy to sell me another power cord for another $70, since mine was out of warranty. While I understood that, I was hoping they would work with me, especially considering the warranty had JUST went out and frankly, a power cord should last longer. They were extremely unhelpful- refusing to do anything for me. I asked why they had me come down- that they had given me the distinct impression over the phone that they were going to do something for me- even though the cord was 6 days out of warranty. They said they wanted to see it (thanks for having me drive all the way down so you could reconfirm what I had already told you!) Even though the gentleman agreed that the cord should not go out in 90 days, they were unwilling to back up their product or provide an exception in the name of good customer service. At the end, they were extremely rude- they even tried to argue with me over when I bought my computer!. I would never go back- not just for the poor customer service attitude when problems with their products arise, but for the complete lack of faith they seem to have in their equipment. So even though they acknowledge that power cords should last much longer- and they swore the one they sold me was new-they refused to do anything when that product proved faulty. Not the way to get return customers. read more

I have used Allocate Tech on a couple of occasions and am very pleased with them. I find dealing with tech issues very stressful, and the people at Allocate are very understanding, do an excellent job, and charge fair prices. I think the only thing they could do better is maybe give Mick a "stupid pill". He so quick to see where a question is headed (usually) that he answers it before it's out of my mouth, only in the process he sometimes answers a question I wasn't asking. read more

I have never been disappointed with Alex and his staff. They always come though for me fast and have never let me down. I send everyone I know to him when ever they have computer issue because I know he will take care of them at an excellent price.
