Placerville PC shop review My particular experience took place on December 17th, 2019. I went in looking for an older, used PC for a sibling to take on light tasks and old games. Specced a Dell Optiplex with a Core 2 Duo E8400 with an AMD Radeon 6450 card added in, intending to put in a spare SSD for improvements in responsiveness. I made my offer, and things take a turn I find less than upstanding. (mind you, if he just gave the price without below justification, I'd have not given it a second thought upon leaving the shop). After proposing my offer, the shopkeeper points to the Windows OEM License sticker (the one that comes with nearly every OEM office PC made) and claims that it alone was worth more than $100. I dispute the claim, as the OEM license is tied to the motherboard. He refutes, claiming that the license can be transferred. The last bit I find especially contentious as Windows 7 OEM licensing agreements more than likely forbid the transfer of such OEM licensing, and certainly forbid attempts to circumvent such restrictions. This strongly suggests, at best, gross ignorance bordering upon negligence on part of the shopkeeper, to downright deceptive at worst. Further, I felt the pricing is well out of line with similarly aged hardware on the used market, with some lower end brand new PCs being similarly priced and much more capable as compared to what they attempted to sell me. Undoubtedly, with the hardware specced as is, the user experience would've been quite poor, decidedly much worse than a low-end new model. Claiming the brand name Dell carries a (very hefty) premium as justification for grossly overpriced decade old hardware I find to be misleading. The shop is fully within their rights to charge what they feel people will pay for old hardware, however, for the reasons above, I have to view their justifications with strong suspicion. read more

These guys are super nice and courteous. I've been in several times. Once they fixed my laptop so i could get on the internet. They charged what seemed to me a very reasonable price. Took them less then an afternoon. Months later i stopped in to get a monitor cord for my tower. The guy remembered me and again was super courteous and helpful. I wasn't sure which cord i needed so He let me exchange it several times untill i found the right one. I dont know if this means anything to anyone else, but i like dealing with sincere and friendly people. You can tell when the person helping you is stuck helping you because they happened to get hired at this place and it's what they have to do to stay hired at this place which they've gotta do because they've got bills. These guys are not that! They are sweethearts. I can tell Makendrick computer to be the real deal computer nerd guys that you want working on your computer because they have a pet guinea pig that lives in a little habitat in the middle of the floor behind the counter. I brought my Iphone 5s in because it would not charge. I think it was probably because there was a bunch of lint and stuff in the charge port. They said that the battery needed to be replaced and the charge port. I was desperate to get my phone working quick so I let them do it. After the repair my phone did turn on and would slowly charge but there is a brown spot on the screen that was not there before, the fingerprint sensor does not work and the battery drains super fast. I requested my money back to get it fixed elsewhere and they said no. They said that the fingerprint sensor and the screen was not their fault and that they must have put in a faulty battery. They want me to bring it back to them to fix it but I will bring it somewhere else because they are obviously not experienced in fixing phones. They guys seemed cool and it is nothing personal. They just do not do good quality work or stand behind it. read more

The shop was recommended by my colleague. Let me be the first to tell you that I'm glad I took my broken hard drive to MacKendrick. My issue was finding someone to cure the clicking death noise. When I stepped into the store, I was immediately greeted by one of the nice employees. Upon initial inspection of the clicking death noise, they suggested that I need to find a computer service shop with a clean room. They suggested another competitor. (The type of place I know it'll be more than $400!) Upon further inspection, MacKendrick says they can take a look inside the hard drive as they know I don't want to spend $400 or more going to a clean room. After inspecting inside the hard drive, MacKendrick was able to transfer all the data into my new hard drive! The issue turn out to be a broken motherboard inside the old external hard drive of mine. Thus, I've paid $148 for the transfer and labor... much better than $400! MacKendrick is highly trustworthy. They tell you the truth, no curveballs. And, they are friendly! read more

They had my notebook PC for a week. They said the HD was bad and the repair would be $350. I agreed. Later they called and said they were unable to retrieve my data file, DOC,XLS, PDF etc. They offered a "forensic retrieval" for $500. I took my PC home, they were able to reload my legal Windows stuff. I paid $100 for a $50 HD and $155 in labor. I went to the PC store and bought a $22 cable, connected it to my USB input and "bad" HD. Well guess what? I was able to retrieve ALL my data files that the owner and two of his techs were unable to. $500 my ass. read more

Found Mackendricks on Yelp and the $5 off iPhone screen replacement offer was just what I needed after finding out iPhones don't bounce off concrete. You have to make an appointment to bring the phone in but it was repaired in the amount of time they estimated and it looks like new. You may be able to find it done cheaper someplace else but this place was convenient and the workmanship appears to be top notch read more

The people here seem nice but don't let them fool you. They nickel and dime you. First I took my cell phone in and they charged $20 to turn it on. They ordered a new switch and I went back the next week and they charged $45 to put it i.n Then I got home and the speaker didn't work. It worked before I took it in. So I took it back and they said they didn't break it and it would cost another $45 to fix. The phone cost me 99 cents three years ago. I said I should have just got a new one and they said they could sell me the same phone for $85. Certainly won' be going back. read more

Then they offered to take it for me, as the owner was going to be going that way. I declined this kind offer, but did go to Batteries +. I made an appointment online, and within 2 hours my iPad was a good as it could be. I have gone to MacKendricks several times, and have always gotten great service and reasonable prices. I took my MacBook Pro to the Apple Store because it was super slow. They told me my hard drive was failing. I thought I knew a lot about computers until I ran into this situation. I yelped "Computers Help" & Mackendrick Computers and it was fairly close to my house. Walked in and not only did he walk me through what I needed to do to fix the issue he loaned me tools, helped me reinstall an operating system for my Mac while providing great customer service. By far one of the best experiences I've had with electronics. I have no need for the geek squad or Genius Bar. I'm bringing my computer to Mackendrick Computers for now on. read more

I was happy about my experience here. Everyone who works here is very friendly, patient, and helpful, I like them all! I brought in my iPhone 5c which was awfully damaged after falling down a flight of wooden stairs. They talked me through the pricing (ended up being $90), and it was finished the next day! The only problem is that my screen kinda glitches out sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't respond to my touch very well. But oh well, do what you can with what you have. The worst service. Broke my iPad when replacing a screen and won't admit it. I have fingerprints on the inside of my screen and now it won't work. I don't think Apple left the fingerprints there...Owner Brian won't be held accountable and is a punk kid with a bunch of other punks "hanging out" in an old plaza that looks like it's going out of business. This place was awesome! I was sent here from Verizon to have my data transferred to my new phone and they were very helpful. There was a part that they needed to get so they asked me to come back and once I did they had the part available and were able to transfer my data quickly. I've also brought my laptop into get cleaned and I was able to drop off and have them fix within a couple of days. Very nice and knowledgable staff. Brian the owner is rude and disrespectful. Here is history: I replaced my iPhone screen less than one month ago for $100 Weeks later I dropped my phone which was in protective mophie with a protective glass cover and it popped out of phone with glass unbroken. But I still needed to pay another 100 to replace screen. I should have replaced phone at that point. I ask if camera is broken, he responds rudely "well u were looking at it don't u know". I respond that I was looking at glass screen ( which he broke without apology). While there he indicates the sensor button used for Touch ID is broken. Leaving me to believe only password wasn't working. Urg I paid 100 and can't even use phone as the sensor doesn't work at all read more

I took my cell phone in for a cracked screen repair. When I picked up the phone the screen was fixed, however now my phone will not keep or hold a charge. I returned the phone to Mackendricks computers and the assured me they would fix it. I picked up the phone but it still wouldn't charge. I never had this problem before. So agian I took my phone back. After 5 days and no calls I returned and again they assured me it always fixed. Again the phone will not charge. I took the phone to another repair place and they said someone damaged the charging port. I would never go back to Mackendricks they shouldn't be breaking/ repairing phones. read more

I had slight water damage to my IPhone and contacted this company to see if they could work on it. I was told to bring it in before 3:00 pm that day and it would be looked at to determine if it could be fixed. I entered the business to discover the most disorganized looking office I have ever seen - people sitting and doing nothing, children working on computers, etc. Crazy! I spoke to a young gentlemen who was very nice at the counter and told him what I was told via the phone. He said my phone could be looked at and left me standing there at the counter. I waited approximately 10 minutes watching everyone in the office doing nothing and finally spoke up and asked politely if the person to whom I needed to speak knew that I was waiting. Suddenly a guy sitting at a desk whipped around and very rudely stated, "I'm speaking to my son right now - you were told the phone would be looked at before 4:00 and it's still within that timeframe.' I couldn't believe my ears considering no one had acknowledged the issue after the young man I first encountered told me someone would look at it. I picked up my phone and took it across the street to IParts Repair and received very professional service in a very speedy manner! Would never take my equipment to this business - FYI they allow kids to work on the computers. read more

I have found that there are three kinds of computer people. First the ones that do not know everything and are willing to say so, Second the ones that are very good and say they do not know everything and are willing to work with you, and lastly the ones that know enough to be dangerous and thin they know everything. I took my lap top in for cleaning and it came back with the same problems and worse. Now my computer automatically shuts down on its own and restarts. I was told $95 to clean it they charged me $140 saying they had to do extra and now want another $60 to fix it again. I don't think so. I will not use or recommend these guys. read more
