In mid November of 2025, I took my laptop in for repair because it wouldn't boot up and I needed it for my upcoming finals. It took about less than a week to get it back, but they said it had a faulty NVME so I needed to pay nearly $300 for a replacement. They also verbally said Windows couldn't load but the paper they gave back clearly stated it did boot. But by the time I took it home, I tested it out myself. I inserted the "so called faulty NVME" and my laptop DID boot up. I thought I still had a battery issue because it would only boot up while it was charging. I then saw they disconnected the thin wire to the battery which directed current from the power supply. They never plugged it back in. After finding that out, I did my own diagnostics and couldn't see any issues with my NVME. I used the Windows Powershell terminal to check on the NVME's health and there were no issues what so ever. I went back to ask what exactly the issue was and what actually got my laptop to turn on, because clearly it wasn't the NVME. The man got mad and wanted me to take down any review with the return of the $100, but I refused. I will never know what they did to get my laptop to turn on again, but I do know they scammed me into believing my OS couldn't boot and I needed their NVME replacement for $300... Usually NVMEs fail early on when getting a new laptop (infant mortality rate of 3-6 months) and I've had this laptop for many years now. NVMEs don't even have anything to do with the battery so this tipped me off. They used simple NVME health tools which I replicated (they mentioned CrystalDiskInfo) and saw NOTHING wrong. They either don't know what they're doing/talking about or they're intentionally scamming. Get your laptop issues fixed else where and save your money. They are not transparent and will create issues rather than fix it. Glad they turned on my laptop at least. That's all I needed. Do your own research as well and understand what EXACTLY they're telling you. read more

I visited this store a long time ago when a friend of mine had a problem with her laptop. At that time, my friend decided not to spend money to diagnose/repair the laptop, and nothing came out of the visit. But, I trusted Jeff and his advice on the situation and his recommended solution. Recently, another friend of mine had a lot of issues with her laptop, and I took it to Drop Zone. I worked with Jeff, who spent time to discuss his thoughts about the unit, and possible issues and solutions. My friend decided to follow his advice of diagnosing/repairing her solid/quality (though older) laptop instead of getting a new one. I dropped it off one day, and he spent more time on the phone with me, over the following few days, to listen to my thoughts and discuss various decisions to be made as he was working on the laptop. Still diagnosing my Dell computer that was dead on arrival. Was kind enough to call with an update.

I've used Drop zone for work on computers before, so I'm not sure why things went so far awry on this occasion. I brought my Thinkpad in to have additional memory and harddrive space added. I requested a doubling of the memory and a minimum of 2 TB of storage. I dropped off the laptop and they said they would call in a couple of days once they had a clearer view of what they were working with. They didn't call after a couple of days, so I called them and they said it would be ready shortly and the memory stick was successfully installed. I reminded them that I asked for a larger hard drive. They said based on my model that the 2 TB drive they had wouldn't work, but they had a 1 TB drive that would. I said that wouldn't work for me. After a bit of back and forth, I'm not sure why that was necessary, they said they would get the 2 TB drive from a local source and would have my laptop ready on 24 hours. They called me back a day later and said that they couldn't clone my drive because of encryption, so I had to remove the encryption first. I came back and picked up the laptop. The guy at the desk said he would send an email link explaining how to remove the encryption, which he did. He said it could take several hours and would require an encryption key, which worried me as I had no knowledge of an encryption key. Anyway, I used the link, no encryption key was required and it probably took 45 minutes to complete. I brought the laptop back (at that point it was probably about an hour and a half after I picked it up). This is where things got very weird. The guy at the desk who was there when I was at the store early but not the guy I was talking to directly said he didn't recognize me, despite the fact that I clearly saw he was listening the earlier conversation (this was not a busy place). I explained what it needed, and he immediately started to lay down resistance. He asked if I had made a backup and I indicated no, but the other guy had made a backup when he was installing the memory stick earlier, and I indicated that I was willing to pay for another backup if he hadn't retained the backup. He said why don't you bring the laptop back on Monday and we can ask him. At that point I was thinking, I've explained the frustrating experience I've had to this point, and now he's asking me to come back when he can just take the laptop now and ask the other guy on Monday so I don't have to drive back. I tried to explain that I'd just like to leave the laptop, and I would OK if they needed to take another backup (and charge me) if the other guy hadn't retained the backup. At that point he says I'm being difficult, and he says he can't do business with me. I've never encountered a service business that tried this hard to repel business or make my experience so miserable. I'll never do business with them again. read more

Short story I totally messed up my laptop trying to burn an image of my hard drive to an SSD I ordered through Amazon. I even managed to mess with the BIOS of my computer and couldn't get past the blue screen of death. I brought my red hp laptop in to get the screen fixed since my sons accidentally cracked it horse playing in the house. The screen functions flawlessly without any noticeable difference between my old screen and the new one the replaced for me. I was very very worried leaving both of my laptops and my external hard drive (my life) with Jeff. I had liquid damage to my brand new laptop that I wanted them to clean out and diagnose. I also had a slow, older MacBook Pro. They cleaned out the EliteBook and it's actually working just fine (without any replacement parts) and he swapped out my MacBook Pro hard drive to a solid state. I had a computer issue - data had to be found on a backup drive, and seemed to be gone. A family member looked into fixing the problem, and was quoted over $1000 (!) for the job; I took it to Drop Zone, my go-to computer guys, and they were able to find and recover all the lost files for a small fraction of the other quote. They even found and removed viruses from the backup drive (which I didn't even think about), and helped me make a second copy of the data.
