Oh Coperta, you have so much untapped potential and I hope you get there. Before I delve into my review, I have read others I think some people just don't get it. So here are some tips: 1. The Spuzzula is a sample of various appetizers, however they are appetizers that are off menu. We ordered this and got some meatballs, sausage with white beans, charred dandelion greens, polenta fritters, and a small cucumber and snap pea salad. 2. The Entrees are a la carte. You need to order a side or two (depending on what all you get), otherwise you are just going to have a plate of meat. 3. Thursday night is gnocchi night, they offered it two ways, so I recommend coming in that night if you really like gnocchi. Getting away from the tips, we went with the Spuzzula, we did 1 small plate of gnocchi, 1 small plate of the Spaghetti Carbonara, we split the Pollo allo Diavolo, the market vegetable was beets so we ordered that and a buffalo milk mozzarella to eat alongside the chicken. Unlike some other reviews I read, the pasta was great: al dente, not watery, etc. The gnocchi had the lamb ragu which I really liked and the Carbonara was pretty straight forward with that pancetta and garlic flavor. The Pollo allo Diavolo was a little spicy but not as bad as I had anticipated. The beets helped cut the spiciness and the bread and mozzarella we ordered helped went really well with that too. The chicken itself has nice crispy skin, juicy meat, with that kick from the chili oil. We capped off the evening with the Grispelle: they were like cinnamon-sugar doughnut holes with a caramel marsala sauce. The server told us that was his favorite dessert and I thought it came through in the big way, especially since they were cooked to order and still warm when they arrived at our table. If I were just going to judge the food, I would have given them 4 stars probably. Where Coperta comes up short to me is the overall experience and service. We sit at our table, the person who is filling waters comes promptly (which is great), but doesn't say "hi" or "good evening" or really anything.... It's kind of awkward. Our server had good information about the food, knew the menu well, but wasn't personable. Also the service was pretty slow. We were there for almost 2 hours and only had the opportunity to order drinks twice. It was like the servers disappeared into the kitchen, it was just weird to me. The space is warm and inviting, like you are in a home, I just don't feel like the people give that experience to the guests. If they can match the guest experience to the level of the food they serve, this will be a great restaurant. If they cannot, it will be fine but a little disappointing. Coperta is one of my husband's favorite restaurant in Denver. So much so, we have eaten here nearly every week since discovering this place! (I'm talking 10+ times) What we like the most about it is that it's a super-chill place (no fancy airs, no white table cloths, classical music or crazy prices) but has top-notch food. The food is all-around excellent. Service is attentive, friendly, and all servers are very knowledgeable. We've tried nearly everything on the menu and it's all fantastic. I would say their pasta game is particularly strong. My favorites off the regular menu are the Bucatini (lovely pasta shape - it's almost like spaghetti but thicker, with a slightly spicy sauce that has little chunks of some kind of delicious pork product), the Tagliolini with Lemon and Gulf Shrimp (light cream sauce with perfectly cooked shrimp), and the Pappardelle with Monkfish Sugo (you wouldn't think seafood pasta is something you'd want to eat all the time, but this one changes the game - the sauce is light and tomato-based and the fish does not taste fishy at all. It's really hard to describe, but it's unlike any other seafood pasta I've ever had and it's spectacular). Faves off the antipasti menu are the Italian Wedding Soup (possibly the best version of this soup I've ever had - warm, comforting, and delectable pork meatballs), Escarole (simple greens, but very fresh and cooked properly), and the Roman-Style Fried Artichokes. We've brought several friends and family members and they all have loved it. This is a classic neighborhood restaurant that will hopefully stay open for the next 25 years because they consistently serves really good food. read more

My boyfriend and I went for a date night and had a great experience. We had an appetizer, 4 half orders for entrees, drinks, and espresso (safe to say we made our way around the menu). Was every dish phenomenal? No. But both of us felt we had one great dish, and one good dish and we were more than happy with that (not everything had to be a home run, that's the joy of trying different items on the menu). Do they disclose their mandatory 23% service charge - YES. But everyone should be tipping 20% anyways, so I'm not sure why people complain. They do not ask for a penny beyond that (there's no tip line on the receipt, unlike other restaurants). Service was very attentive, all you can ask for. The chef, Kenny, is immensely creative and the mixture of flavors he uses is unlike anything we had ever tried. Coperta is a quaint restaurant located on a pleasant Uptown corner near a hub of local eateries. They do not serve the popular proseco but the waiter's suggestion of sparkling wine with tiny bubbles was a winner. K enjoyed a featured appetizer of fried stuffed artichoke and a tender Angus sirloin entree. But don't miss out on the cacio e pepe. The simple dish appears basic but is brimming with rich flavor. Fortunately my new job has me at about a two minute walk to Coperta. I suspect I will be exploring quite a lot of the menu as a result. For my first foray I opted for the eggplant panini for lunch. I had to take it for carry out back to work. There was a small side salad that had my favorite kind of lemon vinaigrette. The eggplant is preserved in vinegar which made for a very tangy sandwich. You have to love vinegar to enjoy this sandwich which I do. The cheese paired with it was the typical goat cheese. With the eggplant I would have loved to have seen a hard goat cheese with a little more fat to offset the vinegar flavor. Otherwise it was a tasty sandwich. The star of the meal for me was the cookie sampler for dessert. The homemade amoretti were my favorite and absolutely delightful. Also notable was the pistachio shortbread. Tried the meatballs, Octopus Saltimbocca, Cavatelli Ragu, carrots, and the pork chop. Finished up with the olive oil cake. Everything was fine. The meatballs were average and a bit too salty. The ragu was also salty, and my partner (who likes salty) agreed. The Octopus dish was strange in an "interesting" way, not in a delicious way. Clearly high quality ingredients in the dish, but the combo was not something I would revisit. The pork was well cooked, with a salty rub. The wine, service, and carrots were excellent, and the cake had a nice set of sauces. I would maybe visit again in case I made a lot of mediocre choices, but based on the prices I was not blown away. I hate to admit this, but Denver does not have the best Italian restaurants. Maybe that seems logical given our non-Mediterranean climate and the fact that we're so well known for Mexican cuisine, but it's something that could stand improving. Denver is a great food city, and it's time to step up our Italian game! That said, I can't fault the food at Coperta. I tried the orecchiette and steamed vegetables as well as the arancini with prosciutto, all were delicious. The host was able to find a table on a Saturday night without reservations, and the serving staff was very attentive (without hovering). The space itself was pretty noisy, but that's as much a fault of the patrons as the acoustics. Coperta may not be a new favorite, but it's definitely worth a visti. read more

Olive Garden has better service and food for 1/4 of the price. There are 6 options for pasta on the menu. I asked if I could have a pasta dish without the ham, and was told I couldn't because it is pre-mixed. We had to go out of our way to ask the server to tell us what the daily special was and for refills on water (seated outside on a 95 degree day). The service was a extremely slow and the staff wasn't welcoming. 23% service charge automatically added to the bill which was undeserved. The food had no flavor. The spaghetti wasn't cooked enough and was chewy. After the food was served by an expo, no one came to check on us for 10 minutes. I finally was able to ask for Parmesan cheese to try and give my food some taste. The cheese was served in a small dish and clearly had been pre-chopped and sitting out for a while since the edges were yellowing. The large size pasta dish was not filling. We went to McDonalds afterwards because we were still hungry and wanted to taste something. read more

Had the most amazing birthday dinner at Coperta. We made reservations, which seemed like the right idea once we got to the restaurant. Everything was absolutely phenomenal - our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine list and attentive but not overly so. I had the carbonara and market vegetable (the most delicious battered and grilled shishito peppers) and my partner had the cacio e pepe. If I could eat one thing for the rest of my life, it would probably be this meal. Really can't say enough positive things about Coperta. You'd be a fool to miss it when you're nearby! read more

We were here the other night with 6 adults and 2 kids, we were sitting outside and it started pouring rain. The staff put together a table inside, no questions asked, found us a nice little spot right in the middle of the restaurant. Accommodating 8 people with little to no advance was outstanding and really want to give the staff some love for being so flexible. On top of the amazing staff, the food was perfect! I've been there a ton of times with my wife but I really wanted to point out how much we appreciate the staff and the food there. Customer for life, for sure. The egg plant parmigiana, the lasagna, and the spicy sausage pasta were all delicious! I would recommend ordering larger dishes for dinner. You can see in my photos that these dishes are more appetizer size. This restaurant is very quiet, so it would be good for a date night. The vibe is fancy, so it would be cute to dress nice and go out to dinner here. There is also a bar, if you just wanted to grab a drink and small plates. Very Italian, but WARNING: they do not have a chicken parmigiana on the menu, sadly. They do have other chicken dishes and a pretty broad menu, something for everyone I would say. read more

We had a delicious dinner at Coperta. Goat Cheese Ravioli and Cavatelli Ragu were both excellent.

My friend and I decided to check out Coperta as we sought out cacio e pepe for dinner and this place supposedly had the best in Denver. Whomever made this assessment was sorely mistaken. For our appetizers we ordered a house salad and the fried calamari; the former basically consisted of about nine pieces of lettuce and the fried calamari, while slightly interesting, was outright disappointing as it had seven pieces of calamari and the majority of the plate was overrun with fried vegetables. We opted to split our entrees -- cacio e pepe and cavatelli ragu. The cavatelli was the better of the two, albeit slightly -- it needed more sauce and the pasta itself was slightly undercooked. The cacio e pepe was far worse -- it was severely undercooked (supposedly it was al dente) and it was hard, if not brittle. I had one bite of it and couldn't bear it. Additionally, the dish lacked pepper, one of the two critical flavors for cacio e pepe. We didn't bother to stay for coffee or dessert. Additionally, the house wine we ordered was subpar, and our server came off a bit snooty -- not exactly what we wanted to encounter when the food was already failing from the start. The service was great-- he gave us recommendations on everything from wine and appetizers to our entrees, desserts, and aperitif. APPALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE! Called to check availability for the date of our rehearsal dinner. The person we spoke with on the phone said it would be best to come in to the restaurant to see the space. We asked if it were possible to do so today 8/27 and were told it was no problem. We were told the GM would meet with us and if the time did not work for whatever reason he would call us right back. No one called so we traveled thirty minutes to the restaurant. When we arrived the host introduced us to the "manager". He was horribly rude, did not introduce himself, and showed no desire to help us. He mentioned several times that we came during their busiest time, however, the restaurant had just opened (only one person in the restaurant that had just been seated) and we were invited by their staff to come! The manager would not answer our questions or show us the menu- insisting we'd need to communicate by email. The experience was incredibly upsetting, unprofessional, and uncomfortable. We followed their advice to come in- confirmed the time- and were left to feel unwelcome and as though we had somehow inconvenienced them. The food at Coperta was excellent with a good restaurant week menu. The place, which seemed like a real restaurant in Italy, was charming. BUT we were shocked to receive an automatic 23 percent added to our bill for "service," when,in fact , the service was a bit chaotic with two or three different servers rushing about . I thought a tip was a "gratuity"not an obligation. Nor was this obligatory 23 percent announced in advance. And to make it worse, they added tax to the sum after the service charge was included! When we complained the manager said the company had put on the charge which also went to kitchen help and to aid restaurants struggling after Covid. Indeed we have noticed "3 percent " neighborhood "charges as well as charges for kitchen help on recent bills. This is not the best way to get people back into restaurants especially when such charges come as a surprise. If I'd known I was facing this at Coperta I would have skipped the extra glass of wine. To add insult to injury the bottom of the check said we should petition the government for more help for restaurants. We won't return to Coperta . And I think I will continue to cook at home . read more

Coperta is an nice new addition to the Uptown neighborhood of Denver. Today, I had lunch here with my sister and close friend. All three of us enjoyed the fresh mozzarella and a few of the additional items you can get with it. My sister and friend both ordered different salads and I ordered a panini. We topped it all off with some of their special cannoli ice cream. All of it was tasty. My only real complaint about Coperta is that the serving sizes are all tiny and the price is up there for what you get. I do believe the food was good, but I hate feeling hungry when I leave a place and that is generally how I felt. If you are looking for a fun new place to dine and are in or around the Uptown part of Denver, give these folks a try. read more

I was sent here for the Amari collection, and because I've heard great things about Beast and Bottle, and wanted to check out the sister restaurant. The Amari collection was definitely extensive and worth checking out. For that, I recommend sitting at the bar and getting a small flight. The bar appeared to have its own food/snack menu, and was full of younger couples and groups hanging out. The dining experience was good, but not mind blowing. The server was attentive, but seemed apprehensive and not warm or friendly. The draft spritz was well balanced, but not anything unique or extraordinary in recipe or presentation. The amaro cocktail my boyfriend ordered was much better and more interesting. Wines are all Italian, with many grapes I didnt recognize, native to Italy, and are definitely intended to go with the food. Gluten free options are offered, including pasta for an upcharge. Prices are definitely high and entrees are offered a la carte, though the portions of the sides are generous. I loved the salumi platter, especially the house cured lengua, and the side of tomato basil polenta. The summer succotash was also tasty, but would have been better had it not been 50 degrees outside. Besides pasta, options arent too extensive, so returning to try new things doesnt seem to be much of an option, but I think the menu changes seasonally. It was unclear if any desserts besides the gelato were gluten free, but Amari was our intended dessert. This is a classy spot, good for a date or special occasion, but the bar is definitely a more casual, fun spot. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the Italian cuisine outing, which I am rarely in the mood for. read more
