Our server, Camille, took our order and then would disappear for 30+ minutes at a time. At one point, when we asked where she had been, she simply said she was "walking around." Her overall approach to serving us felt extremely nonchalant and inattentive. The atmosphere also made us feel as though the level of attention you receive depends on how much you're spending--particularly whether you're purchasing bottles. The servers seemed more focused on creating a bottle-service experience than providing attentive restaurant service. It gave the evening a very transactional, "pay for attention" feeling rather than genuine hospitality. What really sealed the experience for us happened after we had already paid our bill. A host approached our table and essentially said, "Can you leave now? We need to seat someone right now." There was no gracious transition, no "thank you for dining with us," and no polite explanation--just an abrupt request to leave. For a restaurant with such a beautiful ambiance and good food, the service and hospitality were incredibly disappointing. Guests should feel welcomed and valued from the moment they sit down until the moment they leave, regardless of whether they're ordering bottles.

So we walked on over to this little speakeasy and were immediately greeted by the bouncer. On a Thursday night, it was quite crowded, but were able to find the last remaining seats at the bar. We were seated at the left end of the bar, which was nice because we had our own little "nook" away from the rest of the bar. Adjacent to us was the server station - the one server tending to the tables, Marilyn, frequently came by and we immediately befriended her. She gave us excellent recommendations and provided her opinion on several drinks. Robin was the bartender who took care of us throughout the night. She was super friendly from the moment we sat down and gave us stellar recommendations on food and drinks. She was happy to tweak a couple of their seasonal drinks to our liking, and even offered to mix other drinks that weren't on the menu. Fantastic service from Robin throughout the night. I started out with Tommy's Margarita - this was just their take on a classic margarita, nothing super special. I then ordered the Oaxacan Old Fashioned - think of an old fashioned made with tequila and mezcal in lieu of bourbon. I was a bit cautious about this one since I am not a fan of mezcal, however the smoky flavor was not very apparent in this one, which was a huge plus! I also got the Ardilla - very unique drink made with mexican corn whiskey, cocoa nibs, sherry, and a milk punch. I award this drink for most unique I've had in a while, definitely give it a try if you're up for something new. To finish, I had the Cariña - their take on an espresso martini made with reposado tequila. I really liked this espresso martini - it was a great way to finish out the night and I left feeling inspired to make my espresso martinis at home using tequila now! With the little room we had left in our stomachs, we tried the Pato Tinga Memela, which was duck leg (no bone) with beans and onions and cilantro atop a memela. I haven't had memela specifically per se, but consider me a fan. It is basically a mini "cake" of masa that is pan fried to a slight crispiness. An Oaxacan speciality, where else can I find these in Houston!? We also tried the Guacamole y Tostadas. The guacamole was unique in the sense that it was Oaxacan style, so contains pepitas, pickled onions, and queso fresco. The tostadas were super crispy and reminded me of how they serve guacamole in Mexico (rather than with chips/totopos). Fun fact is that this bar is owned by Goode Company. Next door to this is Goode Co. Cantina, so it's nice that they created an adjoining restaurant + speakeasy concept within the same strip. At one point in our visit, Levi Goode was standing next to us. We didn't know until after he left and Marilyn informed us, that that was THE man. Just doing a casual check-in of his bar. We really had a good experience at Bar Buena and look forward to returning. The food menu has quite a few offerings I wanted to try had I not come from a cooking class. We were also told that the seasonal drink menu was set to change shortly after our visit, so I look forward to trying these drinks!

We Ubered over, so I didn't pay attention to the parking situation. Ambiance (3.5/5): Five Central is big! There's a big restaurant, a cigar lounge, a huge patio, and more. While we dined at the restaurant, it seems like there's a ton to check out here. They often will host live music too as I saw some ads about it while I was in the restroom. Service (4.5/5): Our waitress was great. She was friendly, attentive, and she went above and beyond. They brought me the wrong side, and I told her it was okay, but she ended up bringing me the right side a few minutes later. Which meant my meal had three sides instead of the two it came with. I really appreciated that! Drinks (4/5): Five Central has a good list of cocktails and more, but I wasn't in the mood for alcohol, so I went with a Shirley Temple lol. That brought me back. One of my favorite beverages as a kid. They were out of maraschino cherries, but we made it work. Food (4/5): We started off by splitting the coconut curry wings and the parmesan chicken bites. Out of the two appetizers, the chicken bites were my favorite. They were fried just right, crispy, while still tender inside. The sauce smothered on top made the dish. The wings, on the other hand, while flavorful, were a bit small. Still good though. With that being said, the star of the evening was my entree: the fried chicken. Fried chicken is either going to be a hit or a miss... here, it's definitely a hit. Crispy and well-seasoned on the outside, juicy and tender inside. Served with a sweet hot sauce, Texas toast, and your choice of two sides. I went with fries and mashed potatoes. The sides were just as good. The mashed potatoes were a buttery heaven and the fries were crisp and you could tell they weren't frozen. It's a generous portion size, too! I ate half and took the rest to-go. If you're looking for some Southern cooking, with love, Five Central is an awesome spot.

I recently visited Confessions Restaurant with my cousin and my two daughters, and we had a mixed but mostly enjoyable experience. I ordered the strawberry chicken with truffle fries, and I was really impressed--the chicken was hot, fresh, and bursting with flavor. The truffle fries were a fantastic side, perfectly crisp and delicious. My baby girl had the rigatoni chicken pasta, but she wasn't a fan since it had so little chicken in it. She also had iced tea, which she loved--can't go wrong with that! The birthday girl, my other daughter, got the honey truffle chicken. She said the chicken itself was good, but the mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes, which she didn't care for. She also had the Guilty Pleasure drink, which she really enjoyed--a bright spot for her meal. My cousin ordered the spicy Caesar salad and raved about it, saying it was really good. She also had the honey truffle chicken and echoed the complaint about the instant-tasting mashed potatoes. However, she loved her candy yams side dish, calling it the best thing she had all night. For drinks, my cousin and I both had the Sweet Surrender--a frozen, alcoholic drink that was supposed to have a kick, but it didn't have enough alcohol in it. We could barely taste it, which was a letdown. The ambience was great, a whole vibe that made the evening feel special. That said, the service left a lot to be desired. It took forever for our food to come out, and people seated after us got their meals first, which really upset me. All in all, the food was a hit despite a few misses, and I'd go back--maybe on a quieter weekday when it's less crowded. Hopefully, they'll have things running smoother before their grand opening! read more

I celebrated my birthday here and couldn't have picked a better spot. From start to finish, the evening was a total vibe. The indoor-outdoor setup gave us flexibility as it was slightly warm inside perfect to step outside and enjoy fresh air. The lively DJ set the mood just right, making it feel festive without overpowering conversation. Strawberry wings: Absolutely delicious sweet, savorywhey a little kick, and so fun to start the night. Be careful that red stays on your fingers. Lamb chops with macncheese: Tender, well-seasoned and that mac & cheese? Comfort food at its best. That was the highlight! Yams: They were fine but not show-stopping. Still, a solid side. The menu nailed it overall with bold flavors and satisfying portions. Our waiter, Tru, was phenomenal! He was attentive yet relaxed, checking in right when needed, delivering dishes promptly, and making us feel taken care of all evening. That level of service truly elevated the experience. They offer hookah and a fun photo-op area. Drinks were top-notch, and parking was a breeze with valet and self-park options. This venue hits every mark for a celebratory night: energetic vibe, standout dishes (especially those strawberry wings!), incredible service from Tru, and extras like hookah and photo zones. It felt slightly warm indoors, but that minor flaw didn't dim the fiesta. Highly recommend for birthdays or any night you want to feel celebrated! read more

5 Stars - A Whole Experience! Confessions is that spot. From the moment you walk in, you're hit with the kind of aesthetics that make you pause--moody lighting, sleek design, and a vibe that feels like you're walking into your next favorite place before you've even tasted a thing. It's giving luxury, edge, and comfort all at once. Now, let's talk food. Whew. Those lamb chops? Fall-off-the-bone tender, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection. Easily some of the best I've had in the city. And the spicy Caesar salad? A surprise standout--bold, crisp, with just enough heat to keep you coming back for bite after bite. Whoever's in that kitchen knows what they're doing. Hookah was crazy smooth, with deep flavor that actually lasted through the session (if you know, you know). No harshness--just clean, flavorful pulls the whole time. And the drinks? Let's just say they don't play over here. Potent in the best way--balanced, fresh, and strong without being overpowering. Shoutout to Justin--he really did his big one behind that bar. Every cocktail felt crafted, not poured. The man's got range and taste. Confessions isn't just a dinner--it's an experience. Whether you're pulling up for a night out or just vibing with good people over fire food and cocktails, this spot is a must. Confessions is definitely one of the most stylish spots in Houston. The ambiance is amazing--great lighting, upscale décor, and a fun atmosphere that makes it perfect for a night out or date night. The servers were also very friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. My only real issue is the automatic service fee charged to every table. While the service was good, being required to pay an extra fee on top of the bill can feel a little frustrating and takes away from the overall experience. Overall, it's still a great place for the vibe and atmosphere, but the mandatory service charge is something to be aware of. read more

Instead of providing good customer service, they came across as condescending and seemed irritated with us. Dining out should be an enjoyable experience. We were seated outside and it was quiet for the most part with a good environment to eat. We started with the crab beignets and spinach dip. I can say the dip was really good. The beignets left some to be desired. Its not quite what we were expecting. Think more boudin ball vs beignet. The chili sauce that came with it definitely livened it up. We also ordered the smoked old fashion and the espresso martini(not the one with tequila) both solid drinks. The espresso martini is potent in a good way. Friday after work during happy hour and the prices could not be beat, especially with their lobster bites (was sitting at about $30, and we got them half off!) Drinks were fantastic! I selected the "Golden Cadillac" that comes with a miniature bottle of Grand Marnier inside of it. Very good. My company decided on an array of appetizers for his "main course", while I went with their Fried Salmon (served with Mac and cheese, and collard greens). Omg! So tasty! My company selected fried ribs, along with the lobster bites, and crawfish queso dip, and their wings! I tasted what he got, and we both agreed that the wings were "off the chart" delicious with a beautiful straight off the grill smoky flavor! So good that he got another order to go! Lol. From her hello, to walking us through the menu (as first-timers), her recommendations, her energy, her smile, and her being very relatable. Loved her! My only gripe was the bathrooms, the ladies room needed attention (and could use a spruce all around). It doesn't help that it is a bit small, but yeah, they need to focus some efforts on ensuring it's upkeep. As for seating and parking, there is a bar area and limited seating toward the front of the restaurant, but it does extend to back of the house with additional seating. There is also patio seating as well. Because this place seems popular, it is best to reserve ahead to ensure your seating. Parking is very limited! They do however, offer valet (but at $20+). Unfortunately, there was one drink we both really wanted to try, the Pink Jungle but that definitely gives us another reason to come back. And I would definitely eat at Tago another time. Unfortunately, the parking situation was such a major turnoff that I will not be returning. There is both self-parking and valet, yet you have to pay to park either way--$20. What made it even more frustrating was watching cars leave the parking lot and seeing the parking attendants immediately place cones in the newly available spaces. I drove around looking for a spot and was eventually directed by a parking attendant to park in a space that actually belonged to another business in the shopping center. Despite not even parking in the restaurant's designated area, I was still charged $20. The entire parking setup left a very negative impression and, from a customer's perspective, came across as excessive and greedy. It's unfortunate because the food was good, the atmosphere was enjoyable, and I make a point of supporting local businesses. However, paying $20 just to park--especially under these circumstances--is enough to keep me from returning.

Everything came out hot and fresh, the portions were generous, and the seasoning was on point. You can tell a lot of flavor and care goes into the food. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service made the experience even better. Overall, Jordyn's Soul Cafe is definitely worth checking out if you're in the mood for some good soul food. The deviled eggs were especially disappointing and, quite frankly, embarrassing for a Black-owned soul food restaurant. I ordered the jerk red snapper, but the fish still had scales on it, which made it inedible for me. I will give credit where it's due: the salmon Alfredo egg rolls and the sweet potatoes were good and were easily the better parts of the meal. Service was extremely slow, and the overall ambiance was not what I expected. I will say that our waitress did her best, and I appreciated her effort despite the overall experience. I won't be returning, and based on this visit, I can't recommend it to others. The online presentation and the in-person experience felt like two completely different restaurants.

The service was great, however the kitchen was starting to close so we were told we had to put in our orders immediately. The food we got included the beef dumplings, hummus plate, and the ceviche. The beef dumplings only came with 4 tiny little pieces. We looked at other yelp images of the dumplings beforehand but they had so many more. Not sure if this was because their kitchen was beginning to close, but only 4 was ridiculous. The ceviche and hummus were alright, but we wished they came with more pita chips. I do appreciate that they freshly fry their pita chips, but by the time we needed more, their kitchen was closed and couldn't make more. One thing Boheme needs improve on is their mosquito control. There were mosquitos that were annoying us throughout our dinner and I came out with 2 bites I noticed the following day! Overall, I'd come back here again but only for their happy hour.

Although I like the Gray St. location a little better taste wise for my dynamite shrimp, I think that the University Blvd location is easier to get a reservation. This is a really good choice for date night, a family event or a girl's night. Always nice, clean and bright. Surprisingly, the chicken Parm is one of my favorite dishes here. It's probably top two for me and I've had a lot of chicken Parm. The burger is my second choice; it is so good! One of my favorite appetizers is the Dynamite Shrimp and the salad that's under has a fire dressing that they should bottle. But overall, I've tried several things with the people I've gone with, and there's nothing bad on the menu. Definitely get a reservation in advance... This isn't really a place you can just walk in unless you're sitting at the bar and you've gotten there at a good time. Parking is valet at the gray street location. It's very hard to find regular parking there. You can find parking pretty easily at the University Blvd location. My only real complaint is the service is slow... And I've had different servers at different locations and they all don't really move with a sense of urgency. It takes them a while to get back to you so you can place an order... It takes a while for them to bring out your drinks. Overall, just slow service and that's why I deducted a star.

The cocktails were O.K, one margarita came out as tequila on the rocks, which was just ridiculous, and the staff have a basic idea of what goes into a mojito, but no real skill at making one. She them proceeded to mean mug us for the next 45 minutes as we pushed past 90 minutes as a form of protest. We quit purchasing food, and drink and just sat there looking at her, daring her to come over and enforce her little power trip time limit. Never happened. The food was amazing, very well done. Thee waiter was amazing, he understood the mission and was tipped very well. But the bartenders, and the hostesses brough the experience down to a lowly one star.
