DO NOT GO HERE! The owner is a liar and completely incompetent. My laptop wouldn't turn on and I needed it fixed quickly for my work in grad school. I told the owner, that I needed it repaired within a week and after looking it over for a few hours, he called and said he could do it. I told him that if the work couldn't be done within a week, just let me know, so I could go elsewhere. A week goes by and he tells me he needs to order a part. I'm a bit pissed at this point but suck it up. The part was on backorder for another 4 days. When he finally gets the part a week later, it still doesn't solve the problem. I felt very lucky to have found Don and his company in a time when there was a repair shop on every corner but you didn't always get good service. Recently Don refurbished my very old laptop which was overheating and in general having a lot of problems. The price he gave me was extremely fair, considering the great work he did. My old Toshiba is running like new! And when it's time to say goodbye to a computer, Don will tell you honestly and save your information. I'm a end-user, that's it. While I can bang around a computer until I get an idea of what the problem is I have no clue what to do about it. I've gone to Computer 5000 several times over the past 5 years and have always had excellent, honest service. They've given me honest advice about when to stop 'fixing' things and simply junk the computer; replace power supplies and fans when others have told me to get a new machine and have saved me from junking a laptop that was a hand-me-down - it just needed the battery replaced. Don is wonderfully knowledgeable and helpful. I bought a mouse from him two years ago. Yesterday it stopped working. I didn't know if the problem was the mouse, the connecting port, or the computer. I went to the Computer 5000, unaware that the new location, next door to the old one, was not wheelchair accessible. So I pulled my chair up in front of the stairs and started waving. Don came out one minutes later, took the mouse and checked it on a computer inside. He came out and said the mouse was fine, and suggested I remove the adapter for the suggested mouse port and plug it into a USB port instead. I brought it home and his suggestion worked. I'm back in business! The whole thing cost me $0 and about five minutes of time, not counting travel time on the 28 bus, which stops a block away. Love this store. read more

I've also had a number of computers repaired by them (both ones they've built and ones I got elsewhere). They've been true to their word, given my good deals and service, and I've been satisfied with every aspect. Back in the "old days" there was a little computer store about every other block on this outer stretch of Geary. Not any more. I guess Geek Squad and the other big box bullies have done them in. Fortunately, Don is still here with his Computer 5000 store and I'm happy as hell that he is. Although he's not in the big corner store anymore. He's around the corner, actually facing out onto 14th Street. I recently had a problem with my rig. I'm not technically inclined and, although I could sort of get an idea of what was wrong, I just didn't have the guts to open the box and delve into it. So I brought it to Don. The next morning I got a call from Don explaining the problem and I knew what I had to do; replace some bad RAM. I delivered the new RAM sticks to Don, he put them in and tested it all out overnight and I picked it up the next morning. And now I have my Big Bertha rig back and operating like new. My son dropped his laptop and cracked the screen and Don was beyond helpful and nice in helping me try to fix it . It is a gaming computer and the parts are not as easy to come by; especially in the world of Covid 19, so I ended up having to go back to the company to fix it and wait forever, but Don exhausted all possibilities to try and find the part and I appreciated that. Had viruses removed and twice brought my PC back and still not fixed. The "tech" Don kept saying its my printer causing hung shutdowns and redirected inquiries during searches. He deleted the printer software and gets hung. He also blamed search engine for the search glitches. These problems did not exist before. Also took 2 weeks each before I got my PC back. I also feel he overcharged. He quoted 95.00 to 135.00 dollars for most PCs' and he charged me 162.50 dollars. Sorry but Never again!! Heavy duty media files kept crashing my poor little laptop. Even though it was the day after Thanksgiving, Don was open for business and gave me excellent same-morning service, pumping up my computer's memory and taking lots of time to make sure I could run everything I needed. I have been using Computer 5000 for over 5 years and we have built a great relationship. They continuously provide phone support for any of our computer problems. If they can not help me fix it over the phone they can take the computer that day and have it done within 6-12 hours. The prices that they charge are in accordance with the service they provide. My laptop fan wouldn't stop running! I called Computer 5000 and was told that I probably had some dirt or dust blocking the vents. Of course, instead of bringing it in, I tried to clean it myself.
