Within hours of what I can only describe as a domestic tragedy, he'd diagnosed, dried out, and resurrected my machine -- no data lost, no drama, and no lecture about why I shouldn't work next to liquids (Note to self: never trust "locked" coffee mugs again). He even expedited the repair when I mentioned I was heading out of town, which tells you everything about how he runs his shop. He offers data backup and recovery as his bread and butter, and given my luck I didn't need it -- but I was genuinely glad it was there if I had. Friendly, fast, clearly knows his craft. This place doesn't refurbish computers. Anyone that wants to waste their time, I invite you to buy a laptop here and then take it somewhere else that's competent and have them inspect the thermal grease. This place doesn't even own a soldering iron... When you buy a laptop here, you're buying a used laptop that has only been evaluated to power on and install an operating system. You're not getting an actual refurbished computer. With that said, the new MacBooks from Apple have most if not all of their internal components soldered in place, so the only thing that can be actually refurbished is the thermal paste and possibly the battery, but this place does neither. Their screen repair is decent but the price margin is so close to that of Apple's, you're better off servicing your laptop with the original manufacturer (why wouldn't you?) Their battery service is decent but also, their battery quality is lesser than what you get from Apple's battery replacement service. I wish I didn't have to write this, but customer service at this place has taken a dive, since they moved from the old location in the Lower Haight. My experience today with Azam was just outright bizarre. My appointment today was for 2:30PM, so I got there 15 minutes early: there was a Sticky-Note on the door that said "Be Back In Ten", even though I could clearly see Azam standing inside the store. I wait outside until 2:30, then knock on the door. No answer, so I call the store and, again, no answer. Finally, he opens the door at 2:35, goes into this long rant about how his technician is gone for a week, and then after looking at my laptop, tells me its pretty much a trade-in or good for parts. The icing on the cake is when he insisted that my appointment was for 3:30, even though the email confirmed it at 2:30. The whole encounter just felt like the customers are an afterthought, and this was for the same laptop I bought from them in 2021. Like others have said, store hours and communication across platforms is inconsistent. The excellent customer service I experienced in 2017 is no more, and I definitely won't ever come back. read more

After years of patronage, at least a decade even, I purchased 2 computers for my new company. Though the owner is a lot to handle, I had generally had a great rapport and experience buying 2nd hand computers over the years. In less than 18 months, Computer 1's battery died after being "completely reinstalled." Computer 2, I had dropped off to sell it back, but ultimately after a year of trying to show up to pick it back up when it was not able to be bought back, was eventually handed back a computer that would not work until I took it to Apple to have software reinstalled - despite the fact that I never gave permission for them to wipe the item. All in all, I had to have tried to come by, set appointment, etc, at least 5 times to ever get the computer back because they are so disorganized. I would show up and they couldn't find it. This was particularly difficult because I do not live local to the Bay Area anymore so my opportunities for pick up were slim and specific. At my last visit, it was agreed that they would replace my battery - but it was also requested of me not to email the email I had, but to instead use the website to book, or call the store. The phone wasn't picked up, the advance booking website thing was completely ignored, so I used the text number I had available to try to clarify next steps. I was brushed off, told to call the store, or use the website, while trying to set a dropoff in advance and simply trying to figure out what my next steps were while trying to respect the erratic owner's requests. I've decided to give up because I will not be treated poorly while simply trying to get my machines that I spent 2k on to work. But more so, this mistreatment needed to be published because it is poor customer service. read more

I read the positive reviews and decided to try selling a couple of slightly used computers here. I submitted an appointment request for a Saturday a month prior but never received confirmation. I called the morning of to confirm--no answer. I went anyway since I wanted to get the computers off my hands, but when I arrived, there was no signage indicating it was Love Haight Computers, and the store was closed--despite Yelp, Google and Apple Maps both showing it as open. I later checked Google maps, which says they're closed on weekends. If a business requires appointments, confirmation should be timely, and posted hours across platforms should be accurate. A total rip off. I brought in an old iMac that had lost its power long ago. It cost $160.00 as deposit toward repair cost. He was supposed to get back to me by the end of the week with estimate. He never did. After several calls I finally got him and we worked out he could not fix the I Mac but would transfer data into a newer working model for $740.00. He never contacted me once. In two weeks time I got him twice and both times he said he'd get back to me in a few days. Eventually he stopped picking up or returning my calls altogether. It's been well over a month and they are never in the store. I guess this business is going under but now I am out 160.00 and the loss of an expensive bag I used to transport it and still no working computer. Keep away from this place. read more

Went here out of desperation to get a USB C connector for a Mac that I needed the same day. This isn't their main business. I arrived and they have a rope on the door to say stay out. Ok, not ideal but fine. But after waiting for 10 minutes and seeing the workers inside look at me then look away without a word was a real turnoff. So from the street I called and on the phone they we're not friendly or even polite. But they did sell me a cord I needed for only twice the price of the same cord on Amazon. In the end I got what I needed. But had such a poor experience that I wouldn't go back for any reason at all. Too bad too. I'm a Mac guy and would love a local shop that was cool. Once again, Yelp to the rescue! Classic coffee cup on the laptop trick, complete with sizzling sound effects and an unpleasant aroma of burnt coffee. Of course I hadn't backed up since the last election. Perused a few Yelp profiles and called Love Haight, which is right in my neighborhood. Azam to the rescue! I walked out of there the next day with a lightly-used MacBook Pro and left my old one, which I should've replaced anyhow, to Azam's tender ministrations. I was happy with the price and the fact that I was back in business again, minus some largely sentimental files. I didn't have much hope of retrieval and it did take him a couple of days to rescue the data. We then discovered that the memory on my replacement wasn't sufficient for what Azam recovered. He handed me an even better machine with sufficient memory without adding a dime to what I'd already paid, despite what appears to have been a good deal more work than he bargained for. Don't be fooled by the somewhat ramshackle appearance of the store and the needlessly multi-tiered phone tree. These guys do good work and don't jerk you around. After telling the owner who "Has been in this business for over 25 years" that I needed a MacBook that could handle Adobe suites and apps he sold me a used machine that is not upgradeable or compatible. Seems 25 years doesn't open your ears to the needs of your customer. If I could give him and Love Haight zero stars I would. Save yourself the headache and the trouble and go someplace else. I now have as "all sales are final no exceptions" which I wasn't told, have a very expensive doorstop. I was just contacted by the owner who again didn't listen to me or my concerns with "25 years of experience". I again state if I could give zero stars to warn people to stay away I would. I was contacted by the owner after the addition I was busy and called him back twice, left messages both times. Now I would leave negative stars and I am glad I gave him now three times to make this correct but again he dropped the ball. Azam is the best! I brought in a sad, exhausted 2014 MacBook Pro and we discussed how I could restore it. He showed me everything, and helped me choose a surprisingly affordable solution to both upgrade and restore my computer. I'm thrilled! About two weeks later, one of the speakers went farty. I suppose that can happen, you never know with used things, but when I told Azam, he lit up like a bright light, and replaced both of the speakers with brand new ones under warranty. Such a star! I just bought my 4th laptop from Azam and his gang and I couldn't be happier. If you want a fast Mac, don't need the most current model but need to save some money these guys will style you out. They are a great alternative to spending $$$ for a new Mac but still ending up with quality and a warranty. Also, last summer I was working on a film project where we needed early 90's computers and we ended up getting a bunch of classic Mac.s from them that looked great and really helped set the scene. My particular favorite was a turquoise iMac he had. Azam cut us a deal for a big stack of stuff. I highly recommend them for sales and service. read more

Love Haight Computers is where you buy a second-hand Apple Mac to save a few hundred dollars. If that's your plan, it's a bad one. Don't do it. Theoretically, it sounds good. You get a refurbished machine that should last a few years. What could go wrong? A lot. When you buy a Love Haight computer, you don't know what they did to the system before slapping a price tag on it. In my case, the problems arose several years later when I fell victim to a phishing attack and did a computer reset. My 13-inch MacBook Pro wouldn't update to the latest MacOS. Love Haight claimed my hard drive couldn't accept the update because it was encrypted. For the record, I never encrypted my hard drive. Nevertheless, for $200 LH unlocked the drive and reloaded the operating system. However, its support staff also changed the MacBook's serial number. That's a big deal because Apple provides many of its customer services based on the serial number. The one LH chose didn't exist in Apple's records. I discovered the serial number switch when I tried to upgrade the MacOS again. LH had installed an old version of the operating system, and I was unable to install the upgrade. LH updated the MacOS despite insisting it wasn't needed. By now, LH's advise was worthless to me. Everything was OK until I tried to trade-in the computer at the Apple Store for a new MacBook Air. My LH computer was registered to an unknown business, so Apple couldn't accept it until the business released it. I called LH support and was sent to voicemail. Honestly, I was so sick of LH's patronizing and less-than-honest staff that I told Apple to recycle the computer and I'd forego the $270 trade-in. LH's technical staff are like backyard mechanics. Both are bottom-feeders you turn to when you're short on cash. Computers play too important a role in our lives to trust them to an organization like LH. I recommend buying the computer you can afford direct from the manufacturer. Trust me, avoiding the frustration and anger from an LH computer is worth the extra cost. read more

Horrible experience. Called ahead and walked them through all of my items, they said yes to everything, so I made an appointment. When I went in to drop off my items for a quote, the appointment was not in their system, so when I arrived, James tried to turn me away. When I insisted that I had called ahead he finally registered my items and told me I should receive a quote that evening. 24 hours went by without a call, so I called them and the guy could not even find my number or name in the system although I got the list of my items via email and the number and name were correct. After searching for quite some time, he told me I would have a quote by the end of the day. Instead, someone called and said that my laptop had water damage, when it turned on just fine for me. Then he said they only took Apple products, and couldn't take my kindle, projector, or a multitude of other items they originally said to bring right in. On top of that, instead of giving me a quote he just kept asking how much I wanted for each item. I told them I was expecting a quote from them not the other way around. So he quoted me 60% less than I found at other technology places in town. Do not go here. Complete waste of timBad customer service, and shady quotes. Edit: just went back to pick up my items and Azim and his coworker decided to finish a project before just giving me back my items. Then when he finally brought my my things, my laptop miraculously worked again! The quote they had originally gave me had also almost doubled, but was still shit compared to competitors in town. Azim continued to tell me that nowhere bought water damaged laptops which is completely untrue. When I told them I was taking my business to somewhere with better customer service, and walked him through my experience, he told me "then don't over come back here" No problem. Not sure how Love Haight has 4.5 star rating. Referred here by a good friend, but am sorely disappointed. I asked if the sell price would beat the Apple trade in price. The clerk told me pretty confidently yes. While still chewing his food asked to just take the computer right then and there. As everyone knows our whole lives are on these machines, and so I needed time. I wiped the computer and brought it back thinking the computer would be worth around 1200. They said, ok will have a quote within 24 hours. Well 4 days pass and nothing so I call in, and the guy is scrambling. Says the battery is broken (it's not) same with the keyboard (also not). And proceeds to offer me $400. This is just offensive so I go to pick it up, same guy still eating gives it back, seems at least somewhat caring this time. You're better off so many other places. It just sold on a photo forum for what I thought it would, avoid this place, worse than a pawn shop. read more
