Paid more than $1000 for a new screen that didn't even last a year. What a moron I was. Next time, don't go here - just get a new computer.

I highly recommend Ameritech if you need warranty work done on Lenovo hardware. I purchased an expensive laptop directly from Lenovo. When it arrived it seemed to work fine but after a few days I noticed that it would randomly reset. I was preparing to travel so I needed the laptop fixed urgently. I called Lenovo and they said I could mail it to them or take it to an authorized service center. I chose the latter and they referred me to Ameritech. I dropped the laptop off at Ameritech. Lavina at the front desk was very helpful. A few days later I have the laptop back and it is working perfectly. If I need any more work done on this machine I will certainly use them. read more

I had my Dell Inspiron laptop and a Compaq laptop repaired here. both times it required tech skills beyond what I could do. service was on time and within estimated budget. when any computer starts acting up, it is worth the time and effort to get people with expertise and resources to get it functioning again. also it's worth the time and effort to back up all the important files. in a service repair business, it's all about treating your customers right and having the expert knowledge to solve the issues. Don't go here. I have a pretty new Lenovo that I thought had battery issues, so I took it to one of the certified Lenovo places through my warranty. $120 bucks to tell me it was a software issue that isn't covered by my warranty. But the kicker is that they wanted to charge me another $150 to factory reset the computer(5 minutes of work) with already $120 out of pocket. I told the manager that I thought that seemed like price gouging, and he goes into this whole tirade about how SF is so expensive and Yada Yada. $270 dollars for a lenovo? I might as well buy another one. First off, dude, your operational expenses are not my problem. Second, businesses make their revenue from recurring customers. One that I will not be. So, I basically paid 120 for a still inoperable computer. read more

Excellent service!! I had a Lenovo Thinkpad with a broken screen under warranty and I dropped it off to Andy at Ameritech at 8.30am on a Monday - they ordered the parts that needed replacing from Lenovo - and then called me Thursday afternoon to say it was ready for pickup. No charge as it was under warranty. As others mentioned, the place itself doesn't look like much, but don't let that deter you, these guys know what they are doing. The service was friendly, efficient and the fixed product was solid. If I have any more computer repair issues I will be heading straight back to Ameritech - highly recommend!! read more

I am not sure if it's the same person who answered the phone. When I called for the 1st time to have my thinkpad diagnosed, Lavina was very friendly. But this morning when I called, I heard a low voice without patience. It's been 1.5 weeks since the diagnose was done, I think it's reasonable for me to ask for the repair update. read more

Truly excellent service! Lenovo recommended I bring my non-working laptop to Ameritech and their tech was able to diagnose the problem in about 20 seconds! They are honest, too - they waived the $99 diagnosis charge because he was able to figure out the problem so quickly (dead adapter). I would not recommend bringing your Lenovo here for warranty service. My computer sat here for nearly two weeks with nothing happening. I give this place a star, because everybody seems nice, from the woman who answers the phone, to the person who checks in your computer, to the tech who eventually gets assigned to your computer. And honestly, I think my assigned tech, Justin, is a good and honest person. The main problem is more with the system that Lenovo has set up: Like for me, it may appeal to you to bring your computer to a "Local Authorized Service Provider" rather than mail it in-- you can talk to a real person and your computer isn't shipped across the country. In the ideal, this would be like talking to a "genius" at the Mac store -- They'd be helpful, empowered and be able to fix your computer. (I'm a former mac user, and probably will be switching back after this experience). Instead, these service centers are just another layer of bureaucracy. It's Ameritech's policy that if you want a tech to look at your computer as a "walk in" they charge $85. So unless you want to pay, you need to leave your computer with them. Inconvenient, but fine---after all, you wouldn't have your computer either if you mailed it across the country. But here's the problem and why you don't want to leave your computer here for warranty service: no service ticket is generated with Lenovo, and there is nobody at Lenovo you are ever allowed to talk to, or who even knows your computer is here. Instead, Ameritech is supposed to work directly with Lenovo (or a subcontractor assigned to warranty repairs? this is still unclear to me). In theory, this sounds OK. In practice, not so much, because Ameritech was not very effective at this part of the process. Like I said, nearly 2 weeks passed with nothing happening. Ameritech never sent me an update on their own initiative, but they were responsive to my calls and emails asking about what was going on. When I asked for it, Justin showed me proof that he was repeatedly contacting a "warranty rep" via email. It appeared his emails were just being ignored. When a warranty rep finally did respond almost two weeks later, it was clear this person hadn't read the description of the problem. She literally wrote back to Justin to "go to the website to see if my computer was under warranty." Back to square one. I believe that Justin may have treated my case incorrectly as an accidental damage request. He later tried his best to rectify this, submitting an update in a later email, but like I said, the warranty rep appeared to ignore him and the contents of any emails. Everybody at Ameritech can agree with you that your problem should be covered by warranty, but this amounts to nothing in the end. Ameritech needs to be effective at communicating with customers and with Lenovo, and Lenovo needs to be responsive to their techs at service centers. Neither of these things happened in this case. Instead of wasting 2 weeks of your time too, call Lenovo service at 1-855-253-6686, get a box overnighted to you, and deal with Lenovo directly. At least they promise to return your computer in 7 days. read more

We brought our large Professional grade Hp printer here Last week, Paid the fee and they said because it has after market toners its making noise and there is nothing wrong with it...... We replaced the toners with HP toners, it's still making noise... Un-professional service and wasted our time. I'll get my credit card company force a refund! read more

Ameritech complaint TERRIBLE customer experience. I called Ameritech to find out about their services because my printer was making a weird noise. I spoke with someone who told me it would be best to bring it in as opposed to having a technician come in because it would be cheaper and less trips (a technician would have to diagnose and then come back another time with parts). So I brought the printer in the next day. I was told that i would have a diagnosis by the end of the day or at the very least, the next morning. I then received a call that they had scheduled a technician to come in, and that I may be charged due to the miscommunication. I told them I was encouraged by one of their staffers to bring it in, so why would I have scheduled an appointment for a technician to do on-site diagnosis? All the while, my printer was taking forever to be diagnosed. I had to call 4-5 times to get updates, and by the time it was actually ready to be picked up, it was not the same day or the next morning. It was 3 days later. Then, when I was trying to pay over the phone, I was told AGAIN that I had scheduled the technician appointment and that their technician took the time to come to my office while I had already dropped off the printer. I thought I was being charged for their time, but it turns out, the person just wanted to lecture me and make a point. I didn't understand why I was wasting my time with this conversation if I wasn't actually going to be charged for the "mistake". As for the printer, according to their diagnosis, the weird noise is due to recycled toner cartridges even though I had explained that it didn't make that noise when I had put it in initially. They offered to replace parts, but didn't think it was necessary. I opted not to because of the terrible customer experience. read more

Surly and unhelpful. Parts are back ordered and they never bothered to call. The person answering the phone has an attitude. Everything is done on paper so unless you have the invoice number they can't look up the status of the repair. Perhaps it would be good to put it in a database so that you could look it up by name or phone number. There's a great idea. read more

I am super upset after my last transaction with this place...Lenovo sent me here to have my computer worked on after the hard drive died after a month. They told me they could do the data recovery in a few days for some files I needed. I called and called, and they just kept telling me a few days. I had to re-do all the work for my deadline - and I told them I no longer needed the data recovery. They called me 2 weeks after that to tell me they were going to charge me anyway. I got my Lenovo laptop repaired here =) They seem a little disorganized--that's why I didn't give 'em five stars--but they solved my problem more quickly than they said they would, and apparently waived some charge that I otherwise would have had to pay. (I wish I could give more detail about that, but I don't understand warranty issues or their charging system, so. . . That's all I can say.) They also have a parking lot, which is a godsend in San Francisco. All in all, a good experience! read more

I have been here several times and had wonderful service. This time, I arrived with my laptop that needed a keyboard switched out. I was told on the phone it would take an hour or two. I dropped off the laptop and I headed to the coffee shop next door with my 10 month old. I ordered breakfast. Literally before we had received our food, Ameritech called and told me it was done. I got the food to go! Yes, the office looks like a bomb hit it. but the work that I have had done there rocks. I had two Brother printers and a Lenovo laptop all taken good care of here. The office is literally all the way across town, but I don't mind making the trip because I know it will be done, well, on time or even sooner. Thanks guys! read more

Several years ago, I brought a Lenovo thinkpad to Ameritech, and they fixed it very quickly. A year ago, I brought another fairly new Lenovo to Ameritech that was totally screwed up -- the software was frozen, I was locked out of Windows, and my warranty only covered hardware. I left the computer, and although NO password seemed to work, ultimately they "hacked" into my software and restored it to better-than-optimal running order! It required Herculean efforts -- I must had sent them 50+ different possible password combinations -- and ultimately they got through by hacking! I could be more pleased! read more

I have been using Ameritech for two years and stumbled upon these negative reviews. I am responsible for maintaining over 350 HP laptops of various models. These laptops are used by high school students, so you can imagine the wear and tear inflicted on these devices. Prior to Ameritech, I dealt directly with the HP service center. The cycle to repair a laptop was approximately 10 days, including initial report of damage, packaging, shipping out and then receiving, The units received often needed to be returned do to incomplete repairs. Ameritech not only reduced the repair cycle to 5 business days but have saved me so much time. I no longer have to call in for each laptop needing repair. I simply send them a spreadsheet of laptops needing repair, with a description of the problem. Ameritech eliminated the need to package and ship the laptops in need of repair. They come once a week to pickup laptops in need of repair, while returning the repaired laptops from the prior week. The rate of return on incomplete fixes is very minimal. The staff is cordial and professional. They provide technical support with suggestions and alerts to assure our equipment is performing as best as possible. Ameritech has provided me with service well beyond my expectations. I implicitly trust them with my equipment and use them for suggestions on new equipment purchases. Our relationship continues to grow. read more

I took two machines to this place at the same time and they diagnosed each machine incorrectly. I do not recommend this place to anyone who values their money or any type of integrity! My Dell Desktop was erroneously diagnosed with a bad Motherboard since it would not power on. They told me that is was not the Power Supply and that it would cost me $330 to restore it. WRONG! I put in a new power supply and it was good to go. Seems like a money making scam to me. My Dell Laptop was erroneously diagnosed with a bad hardrive and they said it was very difficult to recover the data. I took my Laptop to the IT guy at work and we could recover the data in minutes with no issues. All I needed to do was recover the data and re-install the Operating System. If you do decide to take your Computer to this place be very weary about what they say. It seems like a money scam to me. read more

I've used Ameritech several times and always had a good experience. They are professional, knowledgeable and prompt in their repairs. This time, however, they really went the extra mile. I had brought in my computer with a number of problems all of which they fixed. When I got the machine back, I thought it had a lower resolution display installed (it didn't, the scaling factor got changed for unknown reasons). Justin worked with me and Lenovo to try and resolve the problem. They contacted Lenovo many times and kept me in the loop. It turns out I was wrong, but I have no doubts where I will take my future computers for repairs. WELL DONE! read more

I had a great experience with Ameritech, and Alan in particular who was clear, direct, and honest. This shop was the only authorized Lenovo service center in San Francisco listed with Lenovo. The scroll key on my Lenovo laptop had popped off and it was still under warranty (just about 1 week left on it!). I took it in on the Monday after Christmas and was able to pick it up today, on Wednesday. It was much quicker than the 5 to 7 days they estimated and it was in between the Christmas and New Year holidays no less. They went above and beyond in my repair, replacing the entire keyboard, cleaning out all of the crumbs, and cleaning the screen. It looks like new even though it's just shy of a year old. And of course, there was no charge for any of it, as they bill Lenovo directly. They have a great parking lot right in front which made my two visits so much easier. read more

So, the Lenovo motherboard crapped out on me again. Being that there is no other service center in my area, I had to go to Ameritech again. Customer service was great, repair was prompt and they also waited after hours for me to come pick up the unit. Super helpful and they really cared. They seem to be certified in everything!! I am a consultant that travels around the country and my laptop is super-critical to me. I was in a bind where my machine wouldn't power up and my support desks would take too long to help me. I found Ameritech on a business partner page - went there as a walkin - they were helpful and listened and diagnosed the problem right away. I have an old 5p laser printer that is known as a "workhorse"-- several places said just get a new printer, but i've read it is better quality than the new printers, unless you buy an expensive one. Ameritech was rated the highest on Bay Area Checkbook....yet there was a "bad" review on yelp. B.A. checkbook is supposed to hav independent reviews, so I went for it. The folks at Ameritech found my 5p had a fuser blown, and replaced it within one day. My workhorse now works! And I learned that Ameritech sells refurb toner with a great warranty. I am satisfied and gratified I found them. read more

Disgraceful. Brought my HP color laser printer in for repair and they charged me half the cost of the printer to fix it. It took a week and a half to fix it because first they ordered the wrong part. They fixed the problem but it had a new one when I brought it home. They would not honor their warranty and insisted I pay for the next repair. So much for customer service. We agreed I would pay cost for the part. Then, they used up all my toner and I had to pay for new toner. At this point the cost is up to $50 less than what I paid for the printer new. Another week goes byand it is supposedly repaired and I bring it home and it has a new problem! It is now back with them. $450 later and I fear I may never have a working printer. My laptop was losing power. The cord was frayed on the adapter. I could see the frayed wires and couldn't fix it with electrical tape (I tried). Ordering one from Lenovo would take about a week. I called Ameritech, the approved service reps for Lenovo products. The good news: they had a spare power cord. The bad news: I had to listen to a ten minute speech on everything my extended warranty didn't cover. I ran down to the store to get the cord. They charged me $30 over list price. I don't mind a mark up; it's a small business staying afloat. I do mind price gouging. At least the two people I met with that time were friendly and checked that the new part did work. When my laptop died a few weeks later, I took it in. Hard drive crash. Ominous sign: a woman leaving the store in tears, clutching her still non-functioning laptop. The tech on duty immediately told me it probably wouldn't be covered because the case was cracked on the laptop. Therefore I must have dropped the computer (I didn't). He also said I needed to find something with the serial number on it because the tag was torn. I said we could still read it and they had it on file from last time (didn't know we could also power up the computer in safe mode and find it - would've taken him 30 seconds). He basically laughed at me, finding my frustration the funniest thing ever. He was willing to keep the computer (why?) and I could call him with the serial number, but he was certain that Lenovo would not cover the damage for a dropped computer. (Of course, if they didn't cover it, I would have to pay him directly at a higher rate). He wasn't just rude and unhelpful; he openly mocks the customers making a bad situation horrible. read more

This company truly exceeded my expectations! My Brother MFC 240C printer stopped feeding paper, for no apparent reason. I called Brother and they did a phone evaluation and determined it was some kind of mechanical failure. I called Ameritech at around 1PM and spoke to Herrick, the manager. I had used this company about 5 years ago, with very good results, so I called them again. Herrick was extremely helpful and spent time with me on the phone explaining various aspects of what might be the problem. He said I could bring the printer in right then, and that they would look at it that same afternoon. Turns out that a plastic piece on the tray roller had broken and they had the replacement part in stock. I had authorized their diagnostic when I brought in the machine, which costs $69 and covers their first hour of repair time. When I talked with Herrick 3 hours later he told me the printer was fixed and ready for pickup! It just needed an $18 part, which they replaced. They did it in about 3 hours! They even waited for me past their 5:30 closing time, since I was on the other side of town and driving there to pick it up during rush hour. Then Herrick carried the machine out to my car for me. This business is JUST GREAT! They're very smart, really know their stuff, and extremely nice and helpful. I will be bringing my computer and printer back to them in the future for any repairs that are needed. On a scale of 1 to 10, I rate them as 11! read more

Been using them for all my computer problems since 1985, and have always been totally happy and satisfied with their service, ability to trouble-shoot problems and resolve them quick and reasonably, but this time they outdid themselves zeroing in on what my problem was interfacing several programs in ten minutes!
