Used to bring my electronics here for several years, and all of a sudden the last laptop I brought to this place - I come back to pick it up and he tells me he returned it some company that called him and asked him to return this computer. TLDR: the guy called David who owns this shop is a scammer. He is really unprofessional , incompetent and lacking in knowledge of computer. Don't expect him can fix your laptop! My laptop wouldn't turn on after I cleaned the dust and replaced the thermal paste. I took it to David, and he said he needed some time to check it. After a day, he called me in the evening and told me that the motherboard needed to be replaced. He claimed it was burnt and said the reason was that no electricity was detected when he tested it. I brought the laptop back home and tried to fix it myself. In the end, I successfully turned it on, and the problem was not related to the motherboard at all. When I asked him what exactly he had checked, he couldn't explain anything useful and instead blamed me for not giving him the charger with the laptop, saying that this was why he failed to detect the issue(make sense???) I was charged $85 and got no useful diagnosis. He even wanted to charge me more to replace the entire motherboard. I feel scammed. I seriously doubt whether he really knows how to repair laptops. He seemed to lack technical knowledge and behaved very arrogantly when I questioned him. Worst experience ever. He is a SCAMMER. read more

Called and scheduled an appointment. All I wanted to do was purchase a PCIe cable to connect my new GPU to my rig's power supply, I wasn't seeking any advice, just a product. Guy tells me it's impossible that my GPU has 3 ports, saying "no GPU made has 3 ports" while I'm showing him a picture of the GPU that clearly has a 6pin and two 8pin slots. Guy called me "boy" and acted like I was stupid for even suggesting that the part I was trying to purchase from him would work. Instead of looking up the specs of the GPU after I provided the model information to clear up his confusion, he took the 30 seconds it would have taken to do that to go on and on about how the picture I took was bad (weird?) Overnighted the cord from Amazon, plugged it into my power supply and GPU, sure enough, it worked exactly as I was explaining to him it would. I've never met a business owner more passionate about proving his customer wrong than he is making a sale. I grew up on Taraval and have always seen this shop, it's a mystery to me how he's been in business this long with an attitude like that. Glad I went the Amazon route though, he probably would have charged me more for the part than what I ended up spending (I would have paid whatever he charges, would have loved to support a local business) Go to this shop if you want someone to question your intelligence and be argumentative + condescending. read more

I have an old (late 2013) Macbook Pro that was in very bad shape -- battery swollen, the hinge of the lid/screen twisted, broken, and disconnected. I understand that replacing the battery on that particular model is very tricky, since the glue has to be removed with heat, with the possibility of even starting a fire. But he did it! And he completely rebuilt the lid/screen hinge. He turned a mess into a completely functioning computer! He seems to be someone who not only really knows computers, but really loves working on difficult problems. And the price was definitely lower than I expected. read more

David is a fantastic technician. I had swapped out some RAM on my gaming PC (that I had built myself 8 years ago) upgrading from 8GB to 32GB and afterwards was not able to boot up Windows (even after swapping back in the old RAM and messing around in BIOS). David founds a multitude of issues with my build which included: (1) The CPU Fan was not configured to the correct input on the Motherboard - I wasn't cooling the CPU as efficiently (2) the CPU fan itself had a broken lock so it was a bit loose, and (3) I had managed to corrupt my BIOS which is why Windows wasn't starting up. Once we got to chatting after he fixed those issues, he had also went ahead and plugged in the additional 8 GB of my old RAM, something I didn't realize I can do adding up my total RAM now to 40 GB. He took the time to explain to me in laymen's terms how the RAM works and why I might as well use it rather than let it lay around in my closet. 100% recommend for computer repairs or general upgrades to your build. read more

This guy is a scammer. I grew up in the Sunset and passed by this place many times, so it was the first place I thought of when I wanted to get my MacBook fixed. I regret trying to support a small Asian-owned business instead of paying up to Apple at Stonestown. I brought my older (2017) MacBook Pro in because the screen stopped working. I was hoping that it was some loose connection but he confirmed that the entire screen needed to be replaced. He quoted me $400something which seemed reasonable, so I left it with him. When I came to pick it up, the new screen turned on but the resolution was way off, so I assumed he may not have tuned the resolution settings correctly. At home I tested various resolution settings and they ranged from awful to tolerable. I was desperate enough to finally have a laptop back after weeks without one, so I continued to use the replacement screen for a few weeks, until my spouse took a look and asked why the resolution was so off. I told him that I changed the settings and chose the best I could find, and he told me that the replacement screen was of poor/knockoff quality. We went back to the shop to tell the man what happened and he said "Well, no one sells genuine MacBook parts." I told him that he should've informed me prior to the repair if he was going to use an inferior quality part so I could've gone to the actual Apple store instead. He then said that since it hasn't been a full month yet, he could still try to refund the part with the place he purchased it from and get a new one since "they sent [him] the cheap one this time". Since I'd already paid him, I let him do that. A few days before the promised completion date, he calls to tell me that the part he ordered was also crappy and that he'd try ordering from somewhere else. Finally I got my laptop back after weeks with a screen that looks to be OEM. I think he lied the first time that they don't sell genuine parts and sold me the shit quality knockoff and tried to make a profit off of it. If we hadn't confronted him, I'd still be stuck using a low quality part. Funny thing is a few years back my mom brought her coffee-spilled MacBook in for a fix. He never got back to her and she gave up. I guess he probably parted it out. read more

Walking into Cosmic Computer felt like sensory overload, boxes of spare parts were stacked high and pretty much everywhere. However, you'll find that David is very knowledgeable and fair with his assessments. We came to Cosmic Computer after my brother's first self-built rig abruptly stopped working. After taking apart the rig and imparting some additional knowledge to my brother, David was able to identify an issue with the motherboard. He very frankly advised my brother to replace the part and to replace it with a new part (don't cut corners). He was also very objective when giving this advice. He started with asking my brother what he used his computer for. He then made multiple suggestions from the lowest price point (~$50) to the highest point (~$200) but favored neither end. His candid conversation and honest assessment was really a breath of fresh air. At this point, David literally left it up to my brother as to whether or not he wanted to have him order and fix his computer and run diagnostics. He cares -- that is so rare and precious. I was panicked -- I had no idea what was going on with my laptop, I need it for medical work that I do and which has deadlines. The owner David don't listen to what you say he will typically just tell you what your hardware has done wrong even when I already tell him that my software window has a problem he told me to go home and will call me when everything is done. For the nexts day I received a phone call and told me that he is done I drop by and take a look he told me fix stabilized the motherboard and gpu and charged me for 2 hr labor fee I don't know what to say I'm guess it dose take him to fix that in 2 hr when I can do it in 20 min or less further more the main issues the window problem still haven't fixed yet he say he will charge me another 1hr labor fee to do so, as a result he will charge me for 3rd labor fee for a gpu, motherboard and a window installation for 255＄ 85＄ an hr read more

PLEASE READ I never actually left a review on yelp before but I feel like it's important to tell you guys about my experience with the owner David and the way he runs his business. So my laptop wasn't starting properly and after some research based on locations near me and the positive reviews, I went with this store. After initial discussions with David, we decided to move all of the data from the hard drive on my old laptop to an external hard drive. I left my laptop with David and went on vacation for 2 weeks and came back to drop off the external hard drive that I ordered while on vacation since I didn't have an external hard drive during the first visit. That's 2 trips to the store. He tells me it will take a while to move the data over from the laptop to the external hard drive and that it will be completed the next day. I was a bit disappointed thinking it could be completed that day as most people are not expecting more than 2 visits (one for the drop off and the second to pick up the fixed product). I got a little busy the next day and forgot about picking it up so I didn't get a chance to come back until a week later. So now I'm in the store for the 3rd time. After asking for my name and searching a few minutes for my laptop, he tells me that everything is ready to go but....there are 6 viruses that his firewall picked up from my old data during the transfer to the external hard drive and he's removing them as we speak. I ask him why this wasn't done earlier as he tells me it will take A FEW MORE HOURS so I need to come back later. Needless to say I was pretty upset at this point as this is the 3rd trip for something that should have been handled during the 2nd trip and I still have to come back yet again!?. And why does it take a few hours to delete a few viruses??? Maybe it has to do with the fact this guy didn't even start to work on moving the data from my old laptop to the external hard drive until I walked in and asked to pick up my stuff a whole week later. I'm almost certain that was an excuse he made up on spot because most people are not experts with computers so he thinks he can BS you with some technical excuse since he's the "expert" and you're clueless. So it took me 4 visits to get what I needed that should have been handled in 2 visits. The worst part is when he handed me back my laptop at the end, the screen was CRACKED (picture below) and he pretended like it was already there when it was actually perfectly fine when I dropped it off. That pretty much told me everything I needed to know when it comes to doing business with this guy, he will NOT owe up when he screws something up but instead deflect the blame elsewhere. All in all I would not recommend taking your computer here as it will take a lot longer than you think to get what you need done. Don't be fooled by his initial talkative personality into thinking he will get the job done in a timely manner or really cares about customer satisfaction because once he get possession of your stuff, lord knows when he will tend to it. And if something goes wrong, it's either the computer's problem, or a pre-existing problem, or some other made up technical problem for us non-experts but never because of him even though he's the ONLY person working on your computer. read more
