Wanted to leave another review here, as I reached back out to John when my PC needed an upgrade. He provided a thorough analysis without any hesitation, and gave me great insight into which parts I should be sourcing for the upgrade, along with several different options to consider. Once again, highly recommend John for any of your PC build needs read more

John is an absolute wizard. I have a Mac + PC setup I'm trying to achieve that is made very complicated by my efforts to connect both machines to two Apple Displays, and have been turned down by shop after shop! John took the project full on and has made short work of the challenge, parsing through extensive amounts of information on YouTube, reddit, and more. He's been super kind and communicative along the way as well. I would highly recommend him for any computer service you may need. read more

I would highly recommend John he's quick with repairs and very good with communicating and understand the issues with the PC. I happen to know a bit about PC's but was not comfortable doing this job by myself. Basically, I had an issue with an old AIO cooler (liquid cooler) that died on me after only 2 years of use. I was getting idle temps around 70-80c on my CPU. This job required removal of the old cooler and installing a new one. So I looked and called around for repair places that might be able to do it, but many stores I reached out to were not able to do this or quoted a pretty high price. I managed to find San Mateo PC Build and reached out. John emailed me back within a couple of hours for more details and what time he was available to make the repairs. I simply dropped it off and he kept me in the loop with when he started and completed the repair. He even ran some tests over night to check temps and ensure stability! The next day I picked up the PC and it's been working good so far. Overall I'd highly recommend John if you need a PC repair done quick and done well. read more

My partner and I hired John to build a gaming PC for us, and we were super happy with our experience. When we came to John, we had already purchased a few specific parts on our own, and we had a pretty clear idea of what we wanted the PC to look like and what we needed it to be able to do. John gave super specific and knowledgeable advice to us on what other parts to purchase that would fit our aesthetic and computing requirements. Once we had all the parts, John was also super quick with the actual building of the PC, and the finished product looks amazing, runs cool, and is everything I ever dreamed of. Overall, I'd highly recommend working with John, if you want a gaming PC that is more custom than what you can order online but you are not comfortable building/designing it entirely on your own. We are planning to build a second gaming PC in the future, and John said he'd also be happy to walk us through the actual building process, if we are interested in actually acquiring PC building skills/experience for ourselves. read more

I decided to finally build my own gaming PC after years of using a laptop. I got all the parts from microcenter in Tustin to bring up and build. I had no prior knowledge of anything and spent hours looking up videos and tutorials to try and put the PC together. Finally, after 8 grueling hours, I finished(at least I thought I did). I plug the power in, go back to my tower and press the power button. Nothing happens. I try again, and nothing. I try all the basic stuff like unplugging and replugging things, making sure there are no loose connections, etc. but nothing works. I accept that I don't know what I'm doing and start seeking for help around my area. I stumbled upon this business and see that there are many pictures of PC builds and decide to shoot a message and ask for a quote even thought it is almost midnight. John (business owner) responds within the next 20 minutes unexpectedly with a very detailed list of things for troubleshooting as well as a quote for initial diagnostic services which seemed really reasonable to me. I ran through the list and let him now that I was okay with the price and that I would like to drop off my PC as soon as possible. After communicating throughout the next day, he said he could slot me in for an appointment the next day and we set up all the details. Although a friend ended up coming over and helping me basically rebuild the whole thing for it to end up working, I could tell from our interactions that John is very knowledgeable, kind, and someone who is very easy to work with! I would definitely recommend you reach out to him if you have any PC troubles. read more

If you are looking for help selecting parts or building a pc, I pinky promise you that John is the absolute best person for the job!! He is super communicative, extremely knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to answer all my questions and help build a PC that is exactly what I wanted. The PC building world can be so overwhelming, but John guided me through every step of the way and taught me a lot about how to achieve the all-white aesthetic I wanted, and how to get the most performance out of the PC. And, even when one of the parts I had ordered turned out defective, John was ready with multiple backup plans. The finished product is so beautiful and runs perfectly. It has been such a pleasure~ Thank you John!! read more

I was most impressed by John's knowledge, extreme kindness, and support during the time I received his help. I had a network / internet issue with my laptop for the last 2 weeks and finally talked to a computer service agent, who did not provide much assistance at all (but I expected that). This is why I was so grateful when I was suggested by a friend to reach out to John that same night because even though he mainly helps with custom PC building, he was kind enough and quick to try and help out literally every step of the way. He thoroughly assessed the issue and explained several solutions we could try to fix my problem, which he made easy to understand and follow for someone like me, who is not well versed in computer knowledge. I started losing hope of fixing this problem after no solutions online were working as well as the lack of support I experienced beforehand from a different servicer, but John helped me for several hours and even went late into the night. This really showed me that he cares and his compassion, skills, and knowledge are first-rate. My issue has been solved after 2 frustrating weeks and I am extremely grateful to John, so if there is anyone who is experiencing technical difficulties and PC issues, you can definitely trust and depend on him. Thank you so much John!! read more

I can't recommend John highly enough. He did a great job scoping my build, and putting together a machine I wanted and needed, but the thing that impressed me the most was his communication. I highly recommend San Mateo PC Build!! Called them on a Saturday and John was able to come over within the same hour to look at the problem. My custom built gaming PC wasn't turning on no matter what I tried (reseated ram, replaced cmos battery, attempts to jumpstart the PC, etc), but John was able to find the problem in less than half an hour. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient when testing out each different part of my PC! He recommended several different fixes, and we were able to get my PC back up and running in the next few days when it would've originally taken me several weeks to fix it! Quick service and reasonable prices -- I won't hesitate to give him a call if anymore problems do arise! read more

This is my second time asking John for help with my pc, and I am glad I went back. I was having trouble with a game called Valorant, and had a long one week string with Riot Support. They kept telling me the same things that did not work. But when I asked John about it over phone, my problem was gone in just two days. He assessed the problem, asked questions and even did some research. He is really nice, super helpful, and really good at what he does, I couldn't recommend him enough! read more

I was having lots of trouble getting my computer running. John helped me troubleshoot my issues and found out my PSU is having trouble supporting my GPU. He was very patient, easy to understand and my computer is working now. Highly recommend. read more

I typically don't write reviews but John deserves this glowing review. My son was trying to build his own PC and encountered trouble while he was trying to install his operating system. He tried everything, but to no avail. That's when I reached out to John based on his 5 star reviews. He was quick to respond and initially helped troubleshoot over the phone. After 30 minutes on the phone, John offered to come over to the house instead since he needed to see the issue first hand. He was at my doorstep within 15 minutes and was able to help my son get his operating installed and shared some best practices for his build within 30. minutes. His customer service was exceptional and John's patience was appreciated. He was able to guide my son and offered some teaching moments as well which as a mom was a huge win. His 5 stars are well deserved and his rates are very reasonable too. read more
