So happy to be returning at the brick & mortar place. Service is great, upon entering your order is placed at the front register and a number is provided to be placed on the table. The restaurant has a really cool vibe, nicely decorated, neat bar area with TV's. We started off with the Blaze & Glaze Brussels Sprouts, money mustard dipping sauce and wow these were amazing! I could drink the sauce! I had The Summit, so good. As a matter of fact the whole table had the Summit. It is really that good. I plan on returning for the Ridgeline Burger or The Lodge. I used to come here when it was under different management and the food was always the best but sadly that is no longer the case. First off, how do you have a tap room that doesn't have any beer on tap?? they were giving away complementary Dos XX because they had no beer or alcohol alcoholic drinks. There seems to be only two people working and it's quite chaotic. Everybody seemed very confused and seemed unsure of what their job was supposed to be. They brought out my banana pudding before they even brought out my food. And I'm still waiting on them to bring it back. I ordered the macaroni and burnt ends, and it lacked flavor altogether. I also or the collard greens, at first bite they seemed good but sadly it was so extremely salty that I couldn't take another bite. I also ordered the fried okra and it seems to have been the only thing that they didn't get wrong, but even they were slightly over salted. I'm extremely disappointed because I was really looking forward to a southern meal. And a little upset after the price I paid for it. read more

I've tried nearly every vegan place in Austin, and I can safely say Community has the friendliest service. It really does feel like a community. I felt like I was eating at a friend's house. Steak was delicious. Cornbread was absolutely amazing and the mini cheesecake was on point as well. Definitely going to be back! read more

I'm pretty new to Austin but it sounds like this place used to be a food truck that was busy/popular enough to open into a brick and mortar! I heard about it through a vegan Facebook group. I immediately had to go try it out when I looked at the menu. I ordered The Switchback and everything was so good I almost cried. The food also came out super fast, which was nice too! The food was so good, I actually went back a few days later and brought some friends. Unfortunately my food wasn't nearly as good the second time. I got the bbq sliders, and they came out cold and with very little filling. I probably wouldn't recommend those. Everything else was good though, especially the fried okra I got on the side! The restaurant itself is also really nice and cozy. I'll definitely be back, and really want to try their brunch menu too! read more

WOW!!! I was so surprised to find that Community Vegan moved from their food truck in the east side to Tarrytown! Which is great for me because it's easier to get to! just so delicious, i really enjoyed everything i tried! service was excellent, servers and owner very kind. my favorite was the dime bag with mac & cheese and collard greens. i didn't order the burger but i had a bite and i will be coming back for it next time i'm craving a burger. also i've never really liked corn bread that much but loved the corn bread here! you've gotta try this place, even if you aren't vegan/vegetarian. i really look forward to coming back!! and you won't hear me say that too often about restaurants because i generally prefer a home-cooked meal. so happy we finally tried this spot!!! bonus points for having parking! read more

Love coming here and supporting black owned businesses. They're always so sweet and the food always made to order so super fresh when you get it. I got the lemon pepper "wangz" and they're made from oyster mushrooms. An up and coming vegan staple and it was delish and crunchy. They have these bar stools and a high bar to sit at. Parking nearby is the street if you're lucky and the dental office lot that's next door (you pay for parking but I never have so shhh). Overall a great joint and can't wait to try something else. I am trying to eat better these days so I wanted to see what the buzz was about. This food truck is located on the corner of 11th street, it's nice and colorful so you can't miss it. Unfortunately, there is street parking. I was able to luck up on a spot not too far away. I ordered the Lemon Pepper Wangz. This included Fried oyster mushrooms, with lemon pepper flavoring & seasoned fries. These "wangz" were so good! I never would have guessed that it wasn't chicken. I probably could've went with a softer fry but overall it was delicious. They offer a variety of vegan meals including nachos, sandwiches, burgers, banana pudding, and even sea moss. The food is wonderful. But you are going to roast under the sun in the summer or freeze your petunias off in the winter. * * * Community Vegan is a lovely vegan "junk food" truck. You can call it vegan "fun food" if you like. Sandwiches of lovely deep fried stuff, and buckets of deep fried yummy stuff. It is all plant based which means you are getting your healthy vegetables. They toss a lot of interesting stuff on your deep fried sandwiches - and they have interesting dip sauces for the deep fried bucket stuff. But the basic cooking is completely first rate. The food is just fine naked coming out of the fryer. The flavor layers just add to the fun. * * * The truck is located on 11th Street, right near Paperboy and the Vintage Book store. You are next to some of the finest offerings of Austin's Yuppie East Side. Cute stores and art galleries abound. That said - eating at Community Vegan is kind of like going to Foreign Legion Hell. You are on an exposed street corner with no trees, no canopies, no fans and no shade. We ate on one of the cooler days of this Global-Warming-Driven Summer. Only 93 degrees. Out on Community Vegans corner, we were roasting like Thanksgiving turkeys. We were roasting sitting on tall uncomfortable metal stools which did not help matters. I imagine this place gets cooler in summer evenings ... But Community Vegan closes early, long before sundown. I don't think the setting gets more comfortable in winter either. You are at a corner that intersects five streets , so the wind can hit you from a wide variety of angles. Sure, food trucks mean that you eat outside ... But there are a lot of food trucks that set up significantly more comfortable furnishings for the customers. A fan would have done us a world of good. A canopy could have been a lifesaver. Having an Uber driver pick up the food and bring it to our air conditioned domiciles would not be a great alternative solution. This is food that you want to eat straight out of the fryer the minute it is done. Paying a premium to have a home delivery driver bring me lukewarm sodden formerly fried food? I don't think so. * * * Cooking wise Community Vegan is one of the best trucks in our city. If they can make their corner of the planet a little more comfortable, It would be an absolute must-go-to destination. I love what they put in my basket. Really cool spot in a food truck area with lots of picnic tables outside the truck. I ordered the Crispy BEER BATTERED CAULI CHIKN SANDWICH with WAFFLE FRIES, and it was pretty greasy (that's the only qualm I had was how it was still dripping oil from the grease), but SO delicious! It was literally a huge piece of cauliflower battered & seasoned and then fried. It was so good- I think about it almost everyday of my life since I had it, and if I end up moving to Austin, this will be my monthly meal. I had been wanting to try this place for years after hearing people talk about it and following the fun CV stories on social media. I decided to come for brunch and debated between the Chick'n N Waffles and the Southern Fried Chik'n biscuit. The photo on the IG post of the biscuit sandwich earlier in the day was still haunting my mind, so I decided to go with that. I definitely want to come back and try the Chick'n N Waffles. The sandwich wasn't exactly what I was expecting. My biscuit seemed a little flat and didn't have that puffy golden top that I expected. Although the taste was good, it was really crumbly and caused me to have to cup the sandwich in my hand to eat it. The best part was the fried oyster mushrooms! I want to come back for lunch and try them just on their own, because I bet they will be amazing without any thing else to distract from them. The wait for my food wasn't too bad, it was just unfortunately hot out so time stood still. I wish there were more shady spots to enjoy your food. I REALLY lie their lemon pepper wangs basket. Every time I've ordered (uber eats or in person) it's always been delicious and fresh tasting. The flavors are sooo good. It's fried really well and the breading is nice and crispy. I usually get the tartar sauce...so good. But the house sauce is also good. I've had some other items too which are also good but nothing beats the lemon pepper wangs. The toona melt with the avocado bites are good. Stopped here for brunch with a friend! I'm always a little disappointed when vegan foods don't offer protein as a meat replacement in lieu of mushrooms/cauliflower/etc., so I was a bit wary when taking a look at the menu. I ordered a BME sandwich and was, again, a tad put off by the heavy barbecue smell. I was then disappointed yet again when the sandwich turned out to be very very good and flavorful because I like being right about all things. The flavor was not overpowering in any way, and I was really impressed with the texture of the mushrooms (not chewy at all - just right.) The bread was a tad more crumbly than I liked, and the cheese could have been a bit meltier, but that's veganism I guess. Overall, very solid breakfast sandwich. The wait wasn't bad at all even though the truck was a little busy, and there's quite a bit of seating around. No issue when the weather's nice, and there are some covered tables as well. The owner came out to thank us for stopping by, which I really liked. I love knowing that I'm supporting people genuinely passionate about what they do. Community Vegan has been on my food bucket list for the longest! When I found out we were in the area I immediately ordered food online. The pictures on the website and the menu always looked so good to me so I really had to try them out. The website said my food would be ready in thirty minutes and it was. I got a message stating it was ready. Parking was slightly hard they are located close to downtown and they're a food truck. Among other food trucks in the area. We found parking on the side of the road by an empty property and walked over. Now the food, didn't look nearly as good as the pictures. The cauliflower burger was a touch too fried for me. The waffle fries are waffle fries so not much to say there. It was their version of the tuna melt that was underwhelming for me. Just regular toast I could get for a cheap price and "tuna" that barely covered the entirety of the sandwich. Honestly, I could have made this same sandwich at Whole Foods for way less. Taste wasn't there either for this sandwich either. Nothing stood out other than the fact it looked like I was getting less food for this price point. The fried avocado stole the show.
