I was there for Zucchini Kill as they share a common area, but I had to stop at Bistro Vonish just to see if I could have anything there. There are covered tables to eat at which is pretty cool. You can see a heater and what could have been a fire pit for when the weather was more cooperative. There was also a black, steel coffin that I was particularly interested in, but I'm not sure what the purpose of it was. It was empty though. Back to the establishment. It's essentially what looks like a cute little food stand and they sell vegan food of the brunch and lunch variety. The 3 places at the corner were painted black (this vegan eatery, a vegan AND gluten free bakery, and a witchcraft type store) giving off a special vibe. We're allium free vegetarians and most plant based eateries tend to use alliums but it was a wet and dreary day so there was no line, though someone had ordered ahead and picked up. What's the harm in asking? I don't have names but the guy was super nice. I was right; most all their food contains alliums, aside from desserts, but he mentioned the Roast Beet sandwich. The tomato aioli had to be taken out and it was substituted by vegan cream cheese for the wet component, but it could be done! Collard greens were another possibility (just remove the shallots), but I opted for just the sandwich. I admittedly didn't know what a panelle was but it's apparently a savory chickpea-based "cake" that's pan fried and it really takes the sandwich to the next level. I didn't get to eat the 'wich until we made it back to the hotel about 30 minutes later, but the beets were great though the larger slices had a slight bite (not raw, but not as tender as the thinner slices). There are what looked like zucchini slices at the bottom that were dyed a bright red from the beets. The ciabatta was wonderfully chewy. I actually liked it quite a bit and shared with my husband. Wish I got a second sandwich, actually. Haha.. what really made it stand out is my husband - who told me award winning pastries in Paris I dragged him to try were just "fine" or "okay" - really liked the sandwich. He especially loved that panelle. He pointed it out and his tone bordered on what could be considered as enthusiastic. If I could have more food here, this place would get 5 stars. As it is, it is a solid choice for our random trips to Austin and I'll be sure to tell my vegan sister about the beet sandwich. Thank you for the wonderful surprise and delicious meal! Parking could be an issue. There is some parking on 2 sides that I can see filling up. Might be nearby street parking as well, but I'm not too familiar with the area to say for sure. In inclement weather, the parking works great, though.

I love that Bistro Vonish has unique vegan offerings that taste absolutely delicious! I came out on a Friday night with my sister to try out some of their offerings. We ordered online and then walked over since they are a small food truck parked in a tiny lot in North Loop. What called me was the spicy vegan mac and cheese with brussels sprouts: it came in a small box but was extremely filling! My sister had the sweet potato arepas, but I helped her out with one. The arepas were on the grainy side, but the cream and jam on top made it an overall good combination. For dessert, I had to finish it off with a cinnamon roll! While I like cinnamon rolls to be fully covered with icing, I was pleased with the consistency of this roll and the dough as well. For all those who put down vegan food and desserts, you need to try this roll yourself and then promptly shut up! Definitely make it out to BV as soon as you can! Even if you aren't vegan or vegetarian, the menu is out of this world!

I had very high expectations I guess, from a top rated vegan food truck in Austin. The service was courteous but the place and the food truck is as much a vegan cliche as it can be - heavy metal vibes, Close to a tarot reading place, etc. the food was ok, I had the bbq seitan sandwich and mac n cheese with smoked mushrooms - the sandwich was a bit too sweet for my liking. The mac and cheese was good! They do have seating outside, and you might find someone smoking herbs there too *not surprised *

Bistro Vonish is located in a mini food truck park. There is outdoor seating under a canopy. Placing the online order was a quick and easy process, though you can also place an order at the truck. It was ready in a timely manner. Despite the rain pouring down, Craig, the classical trained chef and owner, walked out and handed me the bag. It is very hard to believe this food is vegan, and that's a good thing! The sweet potato arepas are tiny but mighty, with a dense yet soft consistency and a hint of tang from the vegan cheese and sweet sauce. The cinnamon rolls are spectacular and are honestly the best I've ever tasted. The vegan mac and cheese is creamy and smooth, the seasoning on top adds to the savory flavor. I will never stop raving about Bistro Vonish and recommend this to every human. My family and I stop here every time we visit Austin and will continue to do so!

Truly excellent vegan food! The Thursday night gnocchi was hands down the best gnocchi I've had in a long time- super pillowy clouds of delicious sweet potato with smoky grilled mushrooms. Heaven! The kolache was amazing too- stuffed with mushroom and chickpea scramble. Mac and cheese was good but we were expecting to be wowed by it given the hype- maybe the gnocchi just upstaged it. Chocolate pie was tasty too though a bit sweet. We'll be returning to try more. The seating was shaded and nice but there were fire ants crawling on the table and up my legs and I had a few bites by the time we were done. Not their fault though

There's so much I could say about Bistro Vonish, it's hard to know where to start, or stop, for that matter. It was hard moving to Austin in the middle of a pandemic NOT because of shortages, or social distancing, but because the trailer was only semi-operational, with pre-orders only and super short hours. Now that service is resuming as before, it finally feels like life is returning to "normal." So here's the real scoop: Everything here is amazing. You cannot order wrong. The menu changes with the seasons, but perennial staples like the mac and cheese, kolaches, and BBQ seitan have won their keep for good reason. Brunch in particular is a special time; usually it's tofu scramble or bust, but the mega Monte Cristo sandwich with super tender meatless ham and two slabs of buttery french toast is really hard to beat. Also, I have Chef Craig to thank for my first solo Thanksgiving in the Lone Star State. I got to Zoom with my family while digging into the most amazing roast and Brussels sprouts around. It was a weird time, but also, not the worst. Thanks, Bistro Vonish.

Bistro Vonish is hands down the best vegan restaurant in Austin. Don't believe me? I dare you to try it and say otherwise! Operating from a food truck on North Loop Street near Airport Blvd, culinary genius Craig Vanis uses local fresh product and ingredients to cook original dishes, reinventing cheese cake, pizza, sandwiches and more. The truck may be small, yet it does not stop chef Vanis from creating restaurant-grade concoctions in there, day in, day out. On top of being delicious and providing top notch service, Bistro Vonish features a small rotating menu of new dishes every week alongside their solid regular menu. My husband and I really enjoy the experience of discovering new plates every time we visit. Since Bistro Vonish operates from a food truck, they offer outdoor seating. There are no bathrooms, but the food is so good I don't mind holding it in until I'm back home. Yes, it's that good. To be perfectly honest, it took a while for my husband and I to muster the courage to visit the Bistro. We didn't know what to expect from the food truck. But after trying it only once, we were hooked, and we keep coming back for more. 5 stars, no less.

Craig is a nothing short of a genius in the kitchen and a wonderful host. While I sat outside by the chimenea I could not help but be charmed by the aesthetic of what once may have been a food truck now transformed in to what felt like a lovely home. Moving on to the food, I got to try some of the best Arepas I have ever had(Sweet Potato Arepas w/ Habanero Jam) these were superb. Every bite was sweet, spicy and savory. I am still day dreaming of these. Next, I ordered the Special: Southern Fried Oysters(not really oysters everything is Vegan ) these were packed with flavor and spices and left me impressed. You can tell that Craig put so much thought into the batter and this was not your average fried food. Third, I got to try some Gnocchi, which I had never had before, it is something like a dumpling with a tasty gravy (I highly recommend this). Finally, I tried some Mac n Cheese. Although this was not exceptional, I do think this is among some of the best vegan Mac out there. All in all, this restaurant is an A++ I will definitely be coming back again and again.

It also took ages to make and get our food. I know vegan food does tend to take longer because of the care process, but this was another level. They did not call our names when the food was ready and it took ages. We even came to check on our food a few times and it was not ready. Ambiance Food truck in the middle of an empty lot. We tried half the trucks. Burgers, tacos, and cheesecake were on the menu because the others were closed at the time. I tried a taco two-fer at Rockin Vegan Tacos, which has evolved its presentation and probably food through the years. The KBBQ rib taco on a flour taco was yummy. Taste and flavor excelled over the somewhat disjointed and unmeldedness of the overall taco. The vegan bacon on my scramble tasted pretty salty and greasy- true to its inspiration tho bacon in any form won't be missed by me- however the scramble "egg" was eggcellent. Truly. Not just being punny. Don't forget to grab some sauces from the little labeled mini cooler to the left of the counter. That chipotle sauce slaps. The fries from Nom Burger were a skinny fried surprise! Well seasoned and addicting, watch out. They also provide organic ketchup packets without high frucgross corn syrup- min approved. The buns weren't warmed and at a 3:1:.25 bread to patty to cheese ratio, cheeseburger was just ok. The cute little cheesecake truck serves vegan and non vegan options. $10-11 in little glass jars which can be returned for future discounts. The cookies and cream was a layered and light treat. A nice way to wrap up the meal and extend your time in this cute, colorful, casual, Austiny spot. Bathrooms are in the mural building through a white door behind the trash bin, take the first right. I spied Uber cookies on the closed coffee truck menu and shall return for those.

I ordered a holiday cheese box on December 3 as a Christmas gift. My card was charged immediately. The order never shipped, and I received no communication until I followed up myself, multiple times. After the holidays, I learned (only because I kept pushing) that my order had been internally canceled due to a system glitch, with no email, no refund, and no outreach. I was repeatedly told it would ship on specific dates that came and went. A replacement order was finally sent in January. It arrived late, wet, with melted and ruptured ice packs, and the cheese was very soft to the point my friends weren't sure it was safe to eat. The box also lacked the gift note that was supposed to be included. What bothers me most is that my card would have stayed charged indefinitely if I hadn't chased this down myself. That's not okay especially for perishable food. It's a real shame, because the product itself is great. I quite literally licked the plate clean. 3. Glazed carrots with carrot cream - Refreshing with a subtle kick of Asian-inspired flavors that really elevated the dish. 4. Cauliflower and white grape soup - Hearty, comforting, and perfect for the cold weather. I was skeptical about the grapes at first, but they worked beautifully, adding just enough sweetness to balance the saltiness. 5. Squash cappelletti - The pasta was cooked to perfection with the ideal amount of filling. I was already getting full at this point, but there was no way I was leaving this unfinished. 6. Cranberry & ginger popsicle - A fantastic palate cleanser that actually helped reset my appetite for dessert. 7. Concord grape sorbet - I neither loved nor disliked it, but it was refreshing and surprisingly nostalgic. It instantly reminded me of PB&Js with grape jelly that my mom used to pack for me as a kid. 8. Burnt butter apple cake with maple ice cream - I'm a sucker for anything apple, and this combination was next-level. The perfect way to end the tasting. Overall, I had an amazing experience. The service was outstanding, the space was intimate and ideal for a date night, and the food was thoughtful and creative. I'll definitely be back for the spring menu. You don't have to be vegan to love this spot!

I've been wanting to go back, but it's always fully booked. Honestly, I'm happy they're so busy, and I know I'll get my chance to experience it again. In the meantime, I love that more people are getting to enjoy it!

Fry Let me tell you…read moreabout FTG. The little food truck in the back of a sweet-ass dive bar called Mama Dearest. Do you wanna know about the dive bar? You'll have to check out my other review. But just know it's filled with weird taxidermy and novelty items that are one of a kind. But I digress. Back to the food. I would like to tell you I tried everything on the menu as many times as I came here. But alas, only four or five things. Unfortunately, their pierogies are the best thing I've ever had. Not just in Austin, but ever. I am now desperately seeking pierogies that rival FTG's. It's not just the pierogies themselves... but the sauce, it would make angels sing. Every time I tried something new, my heart would long for the pierogies. I finally gave in to my desires and quit trying other new things. I think next time I go back I'm just going to ask strangers if I can have a bite of their food, so I can say I've tried everything. But until then, this review is for what I have tried. After the pierogies. My next favorite things in order. Fried chicken (perfectly crisp bites), jerk chicken (little spicy, not dry, perfect), chilli (so spicy), gnocchi. The cheesecake would technically rank after the pierogies, but because they're a dessert I don't wanna mess up the order here and confuse y'all. The two dudes that work this truck, are here EVERY time. I'm pretty sure the only days they take off is Mondays and Tuesdays. Tell them the girl from Kansas City with a big dog sent to you. Lastly. Know that you won't find this place overrun with college kids or snotty hipsters. Just regular people enjoying a good dive bar.

Rating: 2.7/5 [Postmates delivery]…read more We were so excited to try FTG's food, especially given its high Yelp rating. Unfortunately, it ended up being extremely disappointing. The meats were unforgivably dry, though everything else was good. Steak & Zab ($22): The zab, a mix of green beans, mushrooms, and broccoli tossed in salsa macha with sabayon, was actually enjoyable. I liked the flavors, but it was a bit too creamy/saucy for my husband (likely due to the sabayon). The steak, however, was dry and very chewy. Asian Style Spare Ribs ($17): This came with a 1/3 rack of spare ribs, a Thai cabbage salad, and five-spice fried potatoes. The potatoes were fire, and the salad was solid. But again, the meat missed the mark--super dry for the most part. We tried dipping it in the sabayon and other sauces to add moisture, but it didn't help. The fish sauce glaze didn't come through either. The only redeeming quality was the generous portion size.
