2026 Update: My husband and I recently been coming back as the lack of Vietnamese food options in Milpitas has gone drastically downhill (what is going on? Is Milpitas blocking Vietnamese restaurants?) Anyways, we definitely saw improvements in the food. The meat in the com tam is no longer super sweet/tastes like cha siu. We have still yet to try the pho but we tried the hu tieu and vermicelli bowls and both were satisfying. Original Review - 3 stars I was so excited for a new com tam place to pop up in Milpitas as I was getting worried so many Vietnamese restaurants were closing in Milpitas. However, I was a bit disappointed at the end of the day. My bar is set high by com tam thien huong which is now gone. So I've been looking for replacements.. Solid and big portion sizes. Just stopped by last week and we ordered the big combo, even though they have a version with a little less variety on sale. Between 6 people, we ordered 3 rice plates and it was good enough to keep everyone satisfied. I probably could finish one on my own, but the plates are pretty big. The food was pretty good. Something felt slightly off about the egg cake that came with the rice plate, but I liked the beef, shredded pork, and fried shrimp cake! May have to join my rotation of viet food. This place always have plenty of parking during weekday evenings because Ocean Supermarket is usually closed earlier than others. That leaves evenings with no problems for parking. Good casual spot. We dined in and chatted for hours inside. Comfortable space with lots of tables and chairs for larger parties too. Menu has good selections and of course it's on the pricier side, but foods are good. I had the roasted chicken rice plate and didn't know that I actually get two whole roasted mini chicken for this order. Too generous. Good value. I saved half the portions for next day roasted chicken salad at home. Best decision ever. Hu Tieu Nam Vang and Hu Tieu Hai San dry or fresh noodles with soup on side are always a good choice with enough flavors. Shredded pork skin rolls are delicious as always. Huge Vietnamese crepe too. Portions are just incredible large sizes here. You're getting good value for the price for sure. Not overcrowded and not too busy for weekday dinners. We chatted for hours and the lady was too kind to us. Friend wanted beer/they don't have beer here, so she recommended my friend go grab a beer from the liquor store onsite and bring it inside restaurant. Delicious and reliable com tam in the Milpitas area! They give large portions and taste consistent. It's a great alternative to thien huong.

The ladies working here are so nice! They welcomed my party in and seated us right away. The door was propped open and caused this draft. They saw we were uncomfortable and switched our tables quickly. The restaurant looks like a typical Vietnamese restaurant with dark wooden tables and chairs, utensils and condiments at the table. I ordered the broken rice with grilled pork. The plate was huge, enough to feed 2 adults. The egg quiche was really good, and the shrimp in tofu skin was pretty good too. I also ordered the Banh khot which came 6 to an order. These were bigger than normal and they were super crispy on the bottom. I haven't had them with coconut cream before and it wasn't bad. IMHOJ When I last dined at this location, the restaurant was under a different owner and name. I loved the previous restaurant's Banh Xeo and that is the reason why we came here. The new restaurant has a new and understated look to it. I liked it. Our server was very friendly and the menu inviting. My husband chose the #13, Vietnamese Rice Noodle w/Grilled Pork & Egg Rolls, $17.99, and I had the Banh Xeo, crispy & savory Vietnamese Crepe w/bean sprouts, shrimp & pork, $16.99. Food portions were big and satisfying. We even brought home leftovers. TLDR: Tender rotisserie chicken It's quite a large place, but unfortunately, quite empty. I hope that changes, because this place is pretty good. I had the Roast Chicken with broken rice, which I'm always wary of, since often it's dry. But this one was not! Not quite to the level of juicy and moist, it was nevertheless tender. And the skin was very flavorful and crispy. I also love the generous portion of broken rice, which is my favorite type of rice. My beautiful wife ordered the Special Pho, which basically contains everything. All of the meats were good. Granted the broth is not as strong or umami as other places, but it's not bad. Finally we ordered a pork spring roll. It had a good proportion of pork and vegetables and I liked the mint. Made me feel like my teeth were getting cleaned while eating! Service here was unfortunately very slow, though the restaurant itself seems to be family-owned and they recently changed ownership, so maybe they're still adjusting. There's plenty of seating inside, which is nice, especially during busier hours. I ordered the short rib rice plate with chả trứng (Vietnamese steamed egg meatloaf) and the grilled pork deluxe plate. One thing I noticed right away was that the fish sauce tasted much more "fishy" compared to other cơm tấm spots I'm used to. Not necessarily bad if you prefer a stronger fish sauce flavor, but definitely different. The chả trứng tasted homemade, with visible bits of carrot throughout, which was a nice touch. Flavor-wise, though, it was a little underseasoned for me. The grilled pork deluxe plate had a solid portion size, especially for the current promo they're running, about $14 rice plates Monday through Friday is a pretty good value. That said, the pork itself had a slight sourness that threw me off a bit. The short rib plate, unfortunately, was the most disappointing. It came with only about 4 pieces of short rib plus a fried egg for around $20, which felt overpriced for the portion. Overall, I really wanted to enjoy this place more because it's close and convenient, but there are other cơm tấm spots I personally prefer in terms of flavor and value. My family dined in on a Saturday for lunch around 12:30pm. There was no wait. Food came out quickly. They are still running the promotion where if you buy 5 dishes, you get 1 dish free or for each dish you order, you get a free drink. We ordered: banh khot, banh xeo, some com tam dishes and a few bowls of pho. The banh khot was interesting. I've never had them like this. They were bigger and flatter and drizzled with a coconut sauce. A bit oily but crispy. Banh khot was also crispy. The com tam was really good. It's comparable to a popular com tam place in the SJ area. I would come back here just to have the com tam and avoid the wait at the more popular restaurant. However the tai and the nam in my pho was just terrible. Both meats were so chewy that I could not swallow them. The broth however was great. Perhaps it was an off day on their meats. Stopped by Com Tam Long Xuyen for some takeout. With this joint taking over a previous business I would frequent from time to time, I was especially curious with how it compares. The restaurant has a few patrons dining an upon arrival. I immediately make my way over to the register and let them know I was in need of take out. My attempt for some bun tom thit nuong was denied. Com Tam Long Xuyen doesn't offer grilled shrimp in its vermicelli bowls. The only alternative was to go with the bun thit nuong cha goi [vietnamese vermicelli bowl with grilled pork and fried egg roll]. Food: The nuoc mam was okay, not great. Granted, I am extremely spoiled and biased towards my MIL's version so nowhere really compares. The grilled pork was plentiful but the noodles were noticeably skimpy. To my surprise, the best part of this dish was the egg rolls. These were golden crispy, flavored well, and not overly oily. Staff were really friendly and eager to upsell the new Nam Vang noodles they had recently added to the menu. While I may not be interested in this particular dish, I wouldn't be against trying out a few other dishes. 3.5 stars. read more

My wife and I had great meals on a Sunday night. I don't understand how there can be so many negative reviews; either we caught the restaurant on a good night, or some of the other reviewers have different perspectives. I would definitely recommend Com Tam Long Xuyen for a casual Vietnamese meal. We tried a bowl of pho and a rice plate, and both were very good. We had a grilled BBQ pork chop broken rice dish, and everything was good - generous and tasty pork chops (see the photo), delicious broken rice, good portion of raw vegetables, a tasty bowl of broth, and to top it off, a free Thai tea. We also had the filet mignon, flank and tendon noodle soup. It was a huge bowl of noodles and meat. I really liked the filet mignon as it was marinated and cooked before it was added to the bowl (unlike the tasteless rare or raw steak in many pho bowls). The tendon was also tasty and generous, although some of the larger pieces could have been boiled longer. I wasn't a fan of the flank and will probably skip that next time. No sriracha or other dipping sauces needed! The pho also came with a free drink (and I chose hot greet tea). I can't speak to the food's authenticity, but I have had pho and rice plates at many Vietnamese restaurants, and the food we had was very good and generous. TL;DR: com tam in Milpitas that is (in my opinion) just as good as what you can find in San Jose. They even offer banh xeo! It's tough getting to San Jose if you're not already there, and parking is always a pain. When the craving for Com Tam hit, I found this spot on Yelp and headed on over. There's a ton of parking in a pretty sad looking strip mall, it's right by Ocean supermarket and there are a bunch of other businesses. This location is pretty big, taking up two shop spaces and has a lot of seating. I've never seen it full but I have seen a number of people getting takeout. I usually get the grilled pork chop plate with everything else on it, like the meat loaf, pig skin and the fried shrimp cake. Well executed, very flavorful and juicy pork chop that goes deliciously with the rice on its own or with the nuoc cham. The other sides are all good too - fresh shrimp, good pig skin and nice juicy meat loaf. The pork chop and meat loaf even reheat well when you bring leftovers home. I branched out on my recent visit and got the banh xeo as well. It was pretty good! Stuffed with bean sprouts, pork slices and shrimp, it went well wrapped up in lettuce and dipped in nuoc Cham. But the portions and pricing here are perfect! Getting here is a little tricky. The address directs you to someone's residence but it's actually in the same plaza as Pizza Hut. I was looking at the address on their building and it's correct, but just not sure how accurately it's addressed since the same address takes you to someone's house. When we got there, the place was literally empty which is weird since we came during dinner time. But as we kept eating, more people started coming in for dinner. Glad to see that the place was getting business! We ordered the Pork Chop and Fries Shrimp Cake w/ rice and we also ordered the Suon Bo Dai Han (BBQ Beef Rib w/ RIce). We tried not to expect too much since the place was new and someone in another review mentioned it was better than Thien Huong. Our food came out pretty quick and it looked really good! I only had take out but the workers here were still kind enough to give me tea while i was waiting and gave me great suggestions on what to order when I was on the fence on what to order. I got the number 8 which included bbq pork chop, which came in multiple pieces, usually places only give you one when it's a combo rice plate, shredded pork skin, egg cake, and fried shrimp cake. I've been coming here since the old Da Lat days, and it used to be great. I've given the new ownership multiple chances, but it's consistently disappointing. Communication is difficult, orders come out late or wrong, and I've had to get up multiple times just to get someone's attention--only to feel like a bother. Even simple requests feel uncomfortable. My last visit with a group of eight had multiple issues. They comped one soda--something I didn't ask for. I don't want anything free; I'd rather just have a smooth experience.
