We ordered one almond milk avocado smoothie, another taro coconut smoothie. The cashier didn't let us know that the smoothies contain sugar syrup when we were ordering. We ordered one salted eggs, one shrimp ramen, one salted kelp. They offered complimentary veggie soup for dine in customers. The almost milk avocado smoothie was so sweet. I asked for a remake. The Barista refused at first, said that it was already made so he couldn't do another one without sugar syrup. I explained that due to health issue, I asked for remake. The barista was able to remake one without sugar syrup. The food was average. They made smoothies with fresh avocado and taro. Parking was easy to find, there was a parking lot at the cafe. Im sad this location has to close :( Coco is exceptional in all areas: food, service and ambience. Whenever I think about what Taiwanese crispy chicken should taste like, Coco's always comes to mind. The staff are so friendly and know the menu like the back of their hands. Each time I come to a Coco's I'm treated like family. The quality of boba is awesome. Drinks are quickly made to order and boba is always fresh. Interior is always neat and orderly no matter how many people have stepped through the doors. There were lots of people visiting today but floors, tables are clean. The interior is small but youll have enough room to eat and chill from the TX sun for a bit. Food is always great; comes out hot and well-seasoned. We got the chicken buggets appetizer, peppercorn chicken with rice and crispy curry chicken with rice. Very good portions and always as tasty as ever. Missing this very colorful place already. Good luck on all your future endeavors, staff and crew!! read more

This has been my always go-to place restaurant when I was a student at the University of Texas at Austin. Located at Guadalupe Street and 20th, this place served authentic Taiwanese foods and drinks. One food item that I always order whenever I come here is Peppercorn Chicken with Rice. It looks extremely simple, but that taste always makes me to come back whenever I visit Austin. Because this is a place that always brings me a memory back, this is my favorite place to visit whenever I am at Austin. read more

Rating: 3.8/5 [dine in] Took about 15 minutes to order and get our food, and another 15 minutes to eat. They give you a table number and have a whole setup to the right of the ordering counter with condiments, utensils, soup, water, etc. They offer complimentary vegetable soup if you order food and dine in. The soup was actually pretty good--great for sipping on between bites of fatty or fried food. Chicken Nuggets ($8.95): Crispy, Taiwanese-style fried chicken nuggets seasoned with salt, pepper, and fresh Thai basil, served with sweet chili sauce. Tasted pretty authentic, but the portion size was on the smaller side. The nuggets were a good size with a perfectly crispy coating and juicy chicken inside. They also gave a generous amount of fried Thai basil, which paired perfectly with the chicken. Bacon Pork with Rice ($15.95): Braised pork belly served with white rice, boiled eggs, steamed carrots and broccoli, and pickled veggies. Good portion overall. It was a cohesive dish, but just okay--we've had better braised pork belly elsewhere. read more

Sakura Rose Milk Tea with Boba The milk tea was very tasty and it was made quickly within a few minutes. The boba was a bit too soft for my liking. Overall 3/5 stars. It is located in UT and seems like a very popular place. They even have tons of food options. read more

Cocos what happened??? I giving two for the nice people, the station in the back and I had boba here like 4 years ago that I enjoyed so my hope is that it's still good ( it looks good so maybe i'd come back for boba only) The food LOOKED good but wow was I mistaken. I got the pork belly rice meal and it was quite possibly the worst thing I have eaten ever. The picture on the menu had the pork belly dry so I thought it was like marinated pork belly. When I got my dish, it was smothered in a very unappealing sauce. The pickled veggies were really sweet and look at that egg. You know that egg looks depressing. Eating this made me was to gag and throw up. I was really sad. For studying, there's not outlets anywhere I could see, so charge your devices if you want to study here. read more

I've been to Coco's Cafe a handful of times and would recommend their rice dish with peppercorn chicken! It's located along the Drag, so is really convenient and close to UT campus. Service is fast - you order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. There's a good amount of seating and you can choose where you'd like to sit. Peppercorn Chicken with Rice ($13.95, 5/5) - This has become my go-to order! - Flavor is great with the minced garlic, green onions + onions, jalapeños, red chilis - Good portion sizes, I like that they provide rice and a side of their pickled vegetables along with the chicken In terms of drinks, I've tried their boba before and it was just okay (3/5). Tasted a bit powdery and costed around $7.50. Wouldn't recommend getting the boba here but their rice dishes are consistent and have good flavor! read more

We got the spicy beef noodle soup which came with an assortment of vegetables. It was pretty good and helped soothe my sore throat at the time. However, I think it was a bit expensive ($17) but it is very close to campus on guad. We also got a small honeydew smoothie with boba which was $8 (still pretty expensive for a small). You have to order at the front and they give you a number for your table of your choosing. The place is a little small and crowded but that's most places on campus. It's cute with indoor and outdoor seating. You also have to put your own dishes away in the back btw. Overall, it's a little expensive but really convenient for students. read more

A great spot for your standard boba drinks. They have a wide selection on their menu, an option for everyone. Their drinks were also pretty well made, nothing too special, but I did enjoy the tea flavor they infused into my fruit drink. Friendly staff and great popcorn chicken. Not the best milk tea or smoothies. We came on a Friday night and were warmly greeted by the cashier. We ordered a popcorn chicken to go and it was delicious. Hot, fresh, crispy, and filled with flavor and lots of sliced fresh chilis. The rice and pickled veggies are as good as ever. I would likely not get their milk tea again because it tastes like it came from a mix. The strawberry banana smoothie was good but a little too much like a slush. If you are looking for a strong tea flavor, you will likely not be happy. However, if you want a standard milk tea that harkens back to the olden days of milk tea in the 90s, this is your go- read more

Student-y Taiwanese on the Drag. Student-y Taiwanese usually means greasy food and marvelous bubble tea. For Coco's Cafe, keep the word marvelous for the bubble tea but swap out "greasy" for "surprisingly good" on the food. I had a first rate tofu and vegetable soup that could arguably be the healthiest bowl of soup on the planet. (I just got an email from my mother asking: "And what about my chicken soup?" A good Jewish chicken soup cures everything Including death.) Revised Review: Coco Cafe's tofu and vegetable soup is one of the TWO healthiest bowls of soup on the planet. It is pretty damm healthy - and the vegetables taste outstanding. (The celery and carrots in a Jewish chicken soup have been boiled into lifeless fiber.) My wife was equally enthusiastic about her vegetarian vermicelli. A cappuccino smoothie with egg pudding made life wonderful. This is not coffee mix powder - which is what you get at some cheapie bubble tea places. This is an honest uncompromising cappuccino - probably made with robusto and roasted to have a major edge. Some coffee lovers don't like fire-blasted coffees. I adore them. I could drink Coco's Cappuccino smoothies all day and all night. * * * Note that the stock of Coco's goes way up if you are on the UT campus and you are walking there. If you are driving in from someplace off campus, Expect to suffer the tortures of the damned trying to find a place to park. * * * Note that the classic downside of student-y Taiwanese places is the fried food. They have fried chicken and various pork dishes here. For all I know those are absolutely wonderful, But I have not tasted them myself. They could be exquisite. They could be the Glory That Was Grease. * * * Go vegetarian and you will eat like royalty. If you decide to go for the fryer, Write your own Yelp review and let me know how things went. read more

Back in town and was excited to revisit this place. Unfortunately it is not as wonderful as it was years ago. It's really killing me to write this low review. First, there was only a fan running and the air was very muggy in the place. We ordered an eel bowl, tofu appetizer and pickled veggies appetizer to go. To my surprise, it came out over $30. Over 25 minute wait. About 10 people got served after we put our order in. I had to ask if they maybe forgot to make my order. Maybe if you were only there to get boba, it would be an o-k experience. If you order food, make sure you have ample time and not in a rush, and be ready to wait in the heat. read more

Dining at Coco's Cafe felt like I was in college again. The humble Taiwanese joint serves iconic street food items, such as beef noodle soup and popcorn chicken, and of course boba. Inside, the place is enveloped in warm colors and nostalgic decor, like college merchandise if I remember correctly lol. There is ample seating too. My friends and I shared scallion pancakes and the popcorn chicken and rice. It was enough to satiate the appetite of three girls, granted we weren't that hungry to begin with. I appreciated the plentiful stir fried green onions and peppers on top of the chicken. It paired wonderfully with the plain white rice. However, I will say the skin on the chicken was a little chewier than I'd like it to be. Flavor was still great though. The scallion pancakes were decent. I haven't had too many to be honest, so I'm not sure how it compares to others. But I wasn't blown away by it. This is a great place to come for a late night talking session with friends. My friend and I came in on a Friday night to get dinner to go around 10 PM. We got a watermelon slushy, a peppercorn chicken with rice and ground pork with rice. The watermelon slushy had a nice flavor but was way too sweet especially with the lychee jelly that we also added to it. The peppercorn chicken had pretty good flavor and the pickled veggies it came with were very delicious. My friend really enjoyed it, The ground pork with rice on the other hand was very disappointing. The pork was so dry and did was way over powered by rice. The best part of the dish was the pickled veggies on top. I also tried to order a papaya milk but they never put my order in for the drink. All in all, an average meal. read more

Very friendly service and staff! Very patient and kind in answering questions. I just got milk tea. I love earl grey boba so this was the closest to it. Finally, someone who understands how to cook with an appropriate amount of garlic! The chefs at Coco's Cafe are doing it right, serving roughly an entire head of chopped garlic with every portion of salt and pepper tofu with rice. This Taiwanese cafe is a real gem here, especially given the lack of comparable options. Their pickled veggies are a crunchy, refreshing treat, too; more sweet than salty or tangy, perfect as a palate cleanser between pungent bites. Do not sleep on the vegetable dumplings either, which have chewy but not doughy skins, and are some of the best I've had nearby. read more

A great local eats right down the street from the AT&T convention center. My wife, a former UT grad was taking me to all the hot spots she went to when she was in college. CoCo's was the first dinner spot to drop by after settling down at the hotel. Look no further for a good taiwanese chicken nuggets and some scallion pancakes! The food was ready very quickly! I was excited to try some more asian food in Austin, but Coco's did not live up to my expectations (which weren't that high to begin with). However, part of that may have been my fault for ordering the curry. As you can see, the curry was a tiny portion in a paper plate, and honestly just tasted like instant curry. Adorable little cafe in the same plaza as many other East Asian eats such as Julie's noodles, Din ho, house of three gorges -- perfect post meal dessert stop if you eat at any of these. The bubble tea comes in so many flavors but my newest favorite is the papaya milk with taro or jelly toppings! They also have a bunch of Taiwanese food options to sit down and try if you're in the mood for more than bubble tea. One thing I can really like about this place is the cute aesthetic and tons of good seating so you can enjoy your food no matter where you sit! Coco's Cafe is one of my all time favorite places to get boba. Since I don't like tea my go-to drink order at any place with boba is usually a smoothie, and more often than not it's a pina colada smoothie. Coco's was actually the first place I tried one! Their pina colada smoothie is sweet, fruity, and delicious. I really appreciate how creamy (rather than icey) the smoothies are here. It almost tastes like liquid ice cream! The boba goes so well with the texture & flavor of the smoothie. A few other flavors I really like are the taro and strawberry banana. I would love to try their taro coconut smoothie! I stumbled upon this cafe after my lunch plans fell through and decided to try their pork over rice. I mean, how can that go wrong? Well, the pork over rice really wasn't very good. Usually the pork is soft and marinated with yummy sauces, but this tasted more like jerky over rice. WAY too dry, only good part was the egg and pickled veggies. The peppercorn tofu wasn't bad, but also not amazing. It'll fill you but not satisfy you. read more

Coco's has pretty mediocre Taiwanese food, but it's never been bad. I really don't like how they give the food in plastic bowls and plates when you dine in. I don't remember if it's always been like this, but I think it is extremely wasteful. I've had their curry fried chicken with rice, curry chicken with rice, ground pork with rice, chicken lo mein, and pork chop noodle soup. The curry fried chicken with rice and pork chop noodle soup were the better options. Their boba is fine too. They bring the food out quickly. This review is solely for the avocado smoothie since that's all I've had from here. I'll update it if I ever get a milk tea or entree! I was disappointed in the avocado smoothie to be honest. It was honestly just like drinking an icy cream smoothie with subtle sweetness, it didn't have much avocado flavor. It did come out super fast and I drank the whole thing anyways. I had somehow never been to this location! Only the north one. It's tiny, but a great stop for if you're already walking around the drag (parking can be tricky and crosswalks are a bit of a walk away). I think what makes them unique is the way they make their bubble tea. Their milk is slightly slushy and the tapioca is warm! I never see that anywhere else. It's so effing good. I also asked for fried tofu and noodles, even though it's not actually on the menu, and they made it for me! Excellent experience! read more

Easy ordering over the phone. Paid in store with Apple Pay. Milk tea, "slightly less sweet" - the tea was pretty tasteless, not sweet enough. The boba pearls were delicious, though! Spicy beef noodle soup - delicious, and a good portion size, too. Great staff and food! The fried chicken cutlet with rice is super big and juicy. Ground pork with rice was a little greasy but it was tasty and gave me a food coma afterwards. The peppercorn chicken and fried tofu also have really good texture and are well executed. Also, shaved ice is huge and I always share it with someone when I order it. Pro tip: you can get ice top ups if you run out and still have toppings leftover. Had to knock a star off because it definitely feels a bit pricey, but given its location, it's not too surprising. I stay away from the green onion pancakes because they're always kind of disappointing. Curry is average, if it's something you already know how to make, it's basically the same as from a box. The rice ball with pork and bamboo is a Taiwanese specialty that is very hard to come by and definitely difficult to make. So, really cool that they offer it even if it's a little pricey. read more

This CoCo's cafe is in a nice spot that is fairly easy to find by either walking or driving. I am an Avocado Smoothie connoisseur so this may be a biased review. However, I am making my recommendation on CoCo's based on the Avocado Smoothie I had here. I ordered an Avocado Smoothie with half sugar and tapioca pearls as I normally do. The smoothie came out fairly quickly and it reminded me a bit of Boba Ninja in Berkeley. While it was not quite as good, I enjoyed it and finished the whole thing. They definitely used a real avocado as one would expect, and there is not too much of a sugary taste on top. The tapioca pearls needed work as I stirred much better ones during my tenure at Kung Fu Tea. More time stirring the pearls in the big metal pot pays dividends when you get to the bottom of the batch towards the end of the day. If I am in the area I may come back, but I was not overly impressed. Just good. read more
