A little disappointed that there was NO happy hour there (as stated by bartender while we sat down at bar at 4:45). Especially after seeing a HH menu in a recent review. Not a problem, though. Came here on a Sunday afternoon after catching a movie upstairs in the mall. We were seated extremely quickly by the hosts and our server was super fast in getting to us. I ordered a bread basket (a must, only costs 1 dollar) and got the roast chicken salad. My friend got a burger with a side of broccolini. No complaints at all about the food. The mouthwatering Ozzie rolls and delicious Mango Martinis is why I keep coming back! Great place for apps and drinks. I love the complementary bread basket particularly the fluffy "Ozzie" rolls, they are like mini beignets or fried donuts. The pipping hot, soft rolls melt in your mouth! The Mango Martini is among my favorite cocktails, it's so refreshing from the fresh mango puree. So rare that I see a mango cocktail on a menu, so glad that Coastal Flats features it! The Southern Iced Tea is refreshing, it's quite sweet and 1/2 sweet tea and 1/2 unsweetened tea was the perfect balance! The warm creamy Spinach Artichoke Dip is tasty and great way to start off a meal! I wish it came with warm bread rather than tortillas chips. Definitely not enough dip to soak up all of those chips! The Goat Cheese Pecan Salad is delicious! I'm not a big fan of ordering salads at restaurants (why buy something that you can easily make at home?), but the salad has great flavor with bold ingredients that blend well together: pecans, goat cheese, and greens. The house-made Veggie Burger is disappointing and very salty! In the past, it was offered open-faced and now as a wrap, and asked for it in a bun. While I wanted to love the burger made from beets, lentils, oats, and veggies - the salt was overpowering. Hubby didn't quite enjoy the farm-raised Pecan Crusted Trout, the bold pecan flavor of the sauce was overpowering and not worth the steep $24 price. Would be nice to offer the trout with a different seasoning. The seasonal White Chocolate Mousse Cheesecake is rich and decadent. Although I couldn't taste the white chocolate, I still enjoyed the cheesecake. Our server was really nice and treated us to dessert on the house! I came yesterday with my friend for lunch and it's always a nice time at a Great American Restaurant franchise in my opinion, they've been trained to meet a particular standard of service, checking the table at a certain time and making sure guests are not waiting for a long period of time, the company goal is to give guests a pleasant experience . The food was good, I am on a limited diet right now and I am thankful to the server Jason and chef who was able to make accommodations for that without making me feel bad about it or appearing annoyed which was kind! Thank you greatly! I ordered the catch of the day Mahi Mahi, price point $20 which was not bad and it is dished over top of mixed vegetables which include potatoes. I had asked if the potatoes could be removed because of my restricted eating for now but if not, was the chef okay with allowing me to receive spinach and spinach is what I got! I'm sure the fish is better served as it is planned but I can't indulge in everything right now, 2 more weeks!! I also ordered the deviled eggs with spiced pecans and kindly requested the bacon be removed which they also accommodated and so delicious ! The server was also very attentive and did so effectively after receiving a 6 top shortly after we came in! The other servers were also helping each other and rotating on checking on surrounding team member tables which is great ! I've dined here several times and definitely plan to go back! The restaurant is located in Tyson's Corner on the lower level (near the Barnes and Noble), so you will deal with the mall crowd. Parking is the normal garage mall parking. I've gone here without a reservation and the wait has never been that longer than 30 minutes, which isn't a terrible wait without a reservation. However, I am sure that could be more at peak times so I would suggest a reserving in advance. The food is so good! I've honestly never had a dish I did not like. The items I would absolutely recommend: Raspberry Lemon Drop Martini, bread basket, blue crab and shrimp fritters, warm goat cheese and spiced pecan salad, and the white chocolate bread pudding. I have to further discuss the bread pudding. Listen, this not your average bread pudding dish, which I am usually not a fan of. It reminds me of a delicious mini Bundt cake. So why not visit a place I had so much raved about in the past! Walked in and immediately greeted warmly by the staff. Glad to see the front team is still on game! We've been pretty steady customers of Coastal Flats over the last year, maybe twice a week if possible(one of my faves). So the last time we went to Coastal Flats, 3 weeks ago we had a bad experience. Service was absolutely great as always. however my wife found a long hair in her "fish special". Ugh. This is a HUGE no-no for us, there is no reason this should happen, it is inexcusable and disgusting at the same time. Makes me want to throw up thinking about it, 3 weeks later. At the time, We both lost our appetite, could not eat our meal. Coastal did credit my wife's meal, but I couldn't eat mine as well(no credit for mine). And now Coastal Flats is on the very bottom of our dining pleasures. Darn it, really liked this place, but we cannot get over it at this time to go back. read more

Coastal flats is a sure thing for a good meal.  The food is consistently good and they really do service right.  You barely need to look up from the table and there is someone there to see if they can help you.  Plus, those sweet round donut-like rolls are really good.  The portions are big and the spinach and artichoke dip is ample for three people.  We also often split the two noodle shrimp salad between two people and no one goes away hungry (especially with those yummy donutty rolls.)  The sodas are a little expensive ($4 per coke) though there are endless refills.  The seating is comfortable and roomy as well and the location in the mall is very convenient to shopping and parking. read more

We made several reservations as we had a large group that could not be accommodated together. As it turned out some of our party had eaten before the rest sat down. And our kids table finished a long time before the adults (but are old enough and went walking around outside while waiting). The manager gave us free appetizers for our long wait. Once we got seated everything was wonderful. Our food was delicious! We shared the crab and shrimp fritters which were mmm mmm good. I got the 2 noodle salad as my entree and it was outstanding. This place have amazing service and food quality every time! I've been here a couple time and they always served you right even when you go peak times. Whenever something is wrong (bad services or food) make sure you let the manager know so they can fix it for you so you can continue to have a good time. Things I recommend getting here are the blue crab and shrimp fritters for appetizers, any salad is delicious. The catch of the day is fresh and amazing. If you are on edge about trying fish, definitely eat fish dishes here, they make it well so it's not fishy. The mahi mahi is a very good choice for beginners. My favorites from this restaurant are the filet mignon steak (pricey but worth it!), the calamari, and all of their salads (probably not healthy, but tasty). I've been to this particular Coastal Flats many times over the years and both, the service and food have been good, but not what I've come to expect from the Great American Restaurant chain. I recently came here as a family of four on a busy Saturday for lunch, after not being here in the past few years and the service was great! From checking in to the table, it was all really good. The special fish when we visited was Mahi and they did it perfectly! Their deviled eggs are amazing, so is the candied bacon that comes with them and I have to say that for the first time in several visits to a GAR restaurant, the salad was actually perfectly done! One of the reasons I fell in love with Mike's American over 30 years ago was because of their amazing salads and fresh food, which was what GAR delivered for many years, but for the past 5 years or so, I've noticed the entire experience being hit or miss, but this visit was what I recall it being and made me so happy, I visited a Sweetwater two days later for lunch! A friend of mine requested going to Coastal Flats after doing a play date with our kids on a Sunday afternoon! First I will say, I was skeptical and I left a happy and changed man. The customer service was A1 from start to finish. Our waiter had to leave due to shift change. He had the courtesy to have us introduced us to his replacement for the remainder of our dining experience. The restaurant is family friendly and holds noise well. The server seated us near the kitchen so our kids could be entertained with what was happening behind the scenes. My son had the salmon kids meal with French fries which he loved! Raspberry Lemon Drop Martini- It was as delicious as it sounds! Strong, sweet, and quenched my thirst. Aussie Bread- Soft and flavorful. Extremely addicting. These might be my favorite roles from a restaurant. Lobster Club Salad - Very Meaty, but an expensive salad. However, an extremely healthy option on the menu. Low Country Beef Back Ribs- Probably one of the best rack of ribs I've had from a restaurant. Filling, tender, explosion of flavor, and beautiful to look at. The French fries were skinny and crispy and the cole slaw was refreshing. Drunken Ribeye- My friend raved about it and out it away as if he never ate a meal before. I believe it didn't miss its mark. Yes and again and again! I had never heard of this restaurant chain actually, nor the Great American restaurants in general and I'm surprised how many times I have now gone to CF! They have a wonderful menu that anyone would love and lots of fried yumminess to balance their wonderful salads! It is an open airy spot, and the booths are large and enjoyable. The staff is very hospitable on every one of my visits! On this occasion, there were 7 guests, most from out of town, and we are all high school classmates. There was plenty of good food and appetizers shared, drinks, laughs and a warm atmosphere. Coastal Flats is located inside of the Tysons Corner Mall, but there is a parking garage directly in front, if you don't want to walk around the mall to get to the entrance. Our server was amazing, probably the best part of the night, she kept our drinks filled, kept the Ozzy Rolls coming , and was extremely pleasant. I really enjoyed her. For our dinner we got the Roasted Chicken Breast with Brown Butter Sauce, Mashed Cauliflower and Green Beans. We also go the Lobster Roll, with Shoe String Fries and Corn on the Cob. The chicken was just okay, and the brown butter sauce was lacking the depth I'm used to at let's say Sweet Tavern ( their sister restaurant ), nothing spectacular. The lobster bisque was very good just came out luke warm. The lobster roll was awesome and very unexpected. The bread was soft and buttery but the lump lobster filling was cold but super flavorful. This is a delicious place to eat. Admittedly I like the stand-alone locations best, but if in the area go here. Finally a restaurant makes a mall better! For appetizers the tuna tacos are fun and tasty. They have a number of great beers or wines, if that's more of your speed. My personal favorite meal is the chicken with havarti. For the price it's quite a deal, and the salmon here is worth it. They definitely give you your moneys worth. You know what I love the most? Consistent excellence. Here and at their other locations, it's obvious they hire good people, and stress training for their employees. Not once have I had less than exemplary service. The restaurant is open for dine in and is operating at normal hours during COVID. The restaurant wasn't packed at all and all employees were all wearing masks. The servers were extremely kind and helpful to us as well. Everything we ordered was perfect! You can't go wrong with calamari as an appetizer so we got that and they gave a generous portion with asparagus as well. During corona you have to pay extra for the bread which is $1 and all proceeds are donated, and it's extremely worth it! The bread was hot and super fluffy inside when pulling it apart. Might be my new favorite bread I've ever had a restaurant. Though both were good, we'd choose the beef ribs over the ribeye. Super tasty and fell right off the bone so we were impressed. The shrimp and grits were AMAZING. I'm a super shrimp and grits fan and I've never had grits in a cake like this before but it was so good with the sauce and shrimp.
