We have come here for years and it's where we get our dog food still. We like that you have a card to earn a free bag of dog food after so many purchases. That's fun. HOWEVER I am leaving a review because in the last 6 months to almost a year the store has become extremely dirty, crowded, and an absolute mess. The carts are broken, my daughter ripped her finger open on the handle while sitting there. The seat belts are ripped & unusable. The store you can't even navigate through isles and racks they are crammed together. It's honestly gross and needs to be swept, and cleaned up from front to back in the store. Forget using a cart through isles you can't get through at all. The clothing department is for sure the worst area. I'm disappointed because it's no longer a nice clean store to go to. I just want to get in & out. The staff used to be helpful & knowledgeable and now they don't know where anything is when we need help & look like they aren't happy to be there. I really like being able to go some where that the staff is knowledgeable about the products they sell. So far I have come across just that here in the dog products. Recently my Pomeranian was had a litter of puppies via cesarian, so her milk was a little sparse. I stopped in here to see if they had formula, and anything to help add extra calories to one of the puppies who seemed like she was not doing to hot. One of the staff members recommended I get this product called DYNE, it is a high calorie supplement for puppies. I am so glad I picked this stuff up. The puppy did so much better, packed on some weight, improved tummy issues as well. A week later the Momma developed stool issues that I couldn't control with just chicken, and rice. I stopped by here. They had canine Pepto-Bismol. That is not the name it is under. But if you need the product just ask. It works, along with kefir. I definitely recommend giving them a call, or stopping by for some of your pet needs. read more

I've been a long time customer for many years, I've bought tools, pants, work boots, ammo, and a decent sized gun safe over the years. But I don't think I'll be shopping here again, on the count that you made my wife cry because of your return policy on 60 dollar pair of jeans that happened not to fit. We were hoping to exchange them for a pair that did fit, but without a receipt it is apparently impossible to do. The pants were a Christmas gift and so my wife didn't keep the receipt this time. But regardless, I think I'll be taking my business elsewhere. I know I'm just one individual, but I can't abide making my wife cry like that. Thank you for your time. read more

They always seems to be out of stock of food I need for my farm. It means that I only go here when absolutely necessary. Staff is friendly.

I have to admit, this isn't a store I frequent too often, but I've been in here a fair number of times, and I like it. They have some really cute clothes, and a nice selection. I've picked up several great shirts in here, and my mother bought a purse in here as well. We have fun whenever we go together. Their clothes are a bit on the expensive side, but they have some beautiful selections. Some are absolutely western themed, which really isn't my style, but they also have some "everyday" sort of styles, that don't stand out as being totally western. They have a household pet section (dogs, cats, birds) and I've found dog shampoo and toys in here. They actually have a good selection there. I typically come in here when I want to buy toys for my brother's dog, as she is a larger dog and tears things up easily. They seem to have more "heavy duty" types of dog toys that can withstand large dogs and chewing on them. The main reason I come in here these days is with my brother because we pick up chicken feed. They have some sort of a punch card thing, if you buy so many bags, you get one free. Which I think is pretty cool. I've sent one of my managers at work in here for that reason alone, and recommended it to him. Customer service has never been a problem in here for me. When I am looking for something specific, I've always found the employees to be helpful and nice. They have always been willing to walk with me to whatever isle the product I need is on and show me where it is at, making things much faster and easier. Cashiers can be a little slow, but they always call for a backup cashier when the lines get long. Which is nice. It's not really a store I frequent all too often, like I said. It is a bit of a drive for me, but whenever I do go in here, I have always had a pleasant experience and no real complaints. Which means I will definitely come back. read more

This is the only place in town that carries our bunny's hay, otherwise I wouldn't shop here. I was barely through the door when an employee was speed walking towards me "we are closing in 10 minutes!!". I totally understand you want to go home, but I knew exactly what I wanted and where it was, it took me three minutes. There are many other ways to express the store closing in ten minutes than what she did. No one even said hello. Even checking out, the clerk was on the phone while ringing me up and when she got off she didn't acknowledge me. She didn't even look up to hand me the receipt. Again, I understand they were closing in ten minutes and wanted to go home, but I wasn't an inconvenience like they made me out to be. Very disappointed on how I was treated. Their staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They're able to advise on which dog food is correct for unique pups needs, and they have a Saturday weekly shot clinic for pets in the store! Just went by for chicken feed and got to check out adorable live Reindeer making a visit and so many wonderful kids were able to see the animals in person who'd never seen one before. Take away - they're smaller than cartoons and kids books would lead you to believe. The store does regular seasonal events like that, has good frequent sales, and an expert in the back all the time who can talk about wood and pellet stoves, etc. It's my pet-feed go-to with better prices than other retailers on dog food. read more

Love this store, they have some fantastic staff members. I feel bad reading these other reviews seeing poor experiences. However, you'll notice that the people reviewing are admitting they've been back to Coastal several times. Because this place stocks with a great selection, period. I've been here a few dozen times and always find what I've been searching for. I have a goat guru that has helped me network to get what I need ( Autumn, fantastic employee), a sweet gal in clothing/accessories that has spent quality time searching for the perfect handbag for my needs, gray gardening expertise with networking outside of the company for continued education... I feel so privileged to have a local store with so many experienced, knowledgeable staff and their experience shows in their inventory too. I was with my friend and she was trying out a kids toy and an employee came up to us and very rudely yelled at her "you're too big, get out." I understand that the toy was meant for smaller kids, not teenagers, but there was no signage or anything letting us know not to sit in it and the employee was very disrespectful and rude. She should have been much more polite to her customers and should have nicely asked us to not use the toy, then if if we had not listened I would understand her using her impolite and disrespectful tone. I am extremely unhappy and would not recommend this store due to their rude service. read more

I like the selection and the prices. It is a good choice except for the service. In the past that was good too, but nowadays they have young checkout clerks that are unfriendly and uninterested. When one charged me more than the marked price and I pointed it out, she was not interested in helping and charged me the higher price anyway. After years of shopping there, it looks like time to go elsewhere. I might pay a little more, but that will be clear up front instead of after it's rung up. Today my partner went into the store intending to spend a good amount of money had they had what he wanted. He shops there often and has spent quite a bit in this store. When he went to leave, the theft alert went off. He DOES NOT STEAL. And of course checking on this is okay, especially in the neighborhood the store is located in. But SEVEN people getting involved and throwing accusations at him and forcing him to empty out his pockets while treating him like he's some kind of criminal when he's done nothing and had nothing from their store on his person is not okay. They even asked him when he bought his pants just bc he god forbid, had Carharts on (all he wears). There was also definitely some racial profiling going on bc the cashier way up at the front of the store was able to say where he had been in the store so he had clearly been watched the whole time he was in there. We've shopped at Coastal for most of the 20 years we've lived in Eugene, right down to getting baby chicks for our kids -- the oldest of whom is now in college. We've always enjoyed shopping there. No more. We brought a couple of hog panels back today, and it was one of the most difficult returns we've ever experienced. (They basically refused to look up our credit card and confirm the charge.) They lied to us about what they could and couldn't do, and were rude about it, to boot. We don't plan to return. read more

Why people still frequent this dusty domain is beyond my capacity for balancing logic with reason and the only thing going for this place is that it offers a fairly good selection of Carhartt wear, and their materials for farm and garden is sound and complete. Here are my complaints..... 1. I have NEVER had any help buying shoes and when I do ask for assistance the salespeople are coarse and berating. More often than not they will just throw the box of shoes on the ground right at your feet (no joke) and then walk off. 2. 1 out of every 3 visits to Coastal will provide me with the bemusing perk of watching the clothing staff be mesmerized by the Television for up to 20 minutes solid. That's right folks, I witnessed a staff person watching TV the entire 20 minutes I was in the store. 3. I saw staff keep their partially consumed Gatorade, Mountain Dew, and Pepsi in the Veterinary Medicine cabinet which stocks primarily equestrian medicines for sale. As if drinking fundamentally backwards beverages weren't enough. 4. The girls at the counter spend way too much time on their iPhone looking at all the newest Cowgirl jeans decked out in hideously gaudy bling via Pinterest. 5. The entire store is disheveled, dirty, disorganized, and downright disgusting! All told, the place is poorly managed and I would assume that "corporate" would make a management change for this location, but alas. The only good thing about Coastal is what I mentioned in the beginning of my post, and the helpful fella with the tattoos who works in the hardware and tools section. Many folks may not know this but Wilco in Springfield offers all the same products but at better prices, in an infinitely cleaner building, and without all of the faults listed above. read more

I called on Friday to see if they had specific product in stock, as I live in Cottage Grove and they're in Eugene. They said that they had what I needed. I asked my friend with a truck to help me as I have a car. We got there and I purchased the items at the register. We drove behind the store to pick up the product. The person on the forklift couldn't find anything...took him forever to find just a roll of fencing and some T posts. Took another 20 minutes to find the wire dog kennel I wanted. He said that they were all all water damaged and the boxes were broken apart so he couldn't sell me one. When I called they said that they had seven in stock. I understand that things happen, but it just seemed to be how their whole back storage yard area was--very disorganized, litter on the ground, messy. My overall perception was that they are very disorganized. The reason I'm giving them two stars is I did speak to a woman named Shirley (the day before when I called) and she was helpful. And I've been to the store before with decent results. After this last visit though, I most likely will not be back. I took my (credited) receipt to Jerry's and they matched the price for the dog kennel. read more

My husband and I went here today to look for work boots for him. We weren't there no more than 5 minutes when a employee came up to me and ask to take my bag and hold into it because it was to big ! I have never been to a store that had asked to hold my purse ! Ever !!! I said no and told her I would leave. I walked over to where my husband was starting try on boots and told him. She was right behind me and said if you don't leave I have to stand here and watch you ! OMG ! She made me feel like I was there to steal and a criminal! I will never patronize this business again! I wanted work boots and I have looked far and wide. I was told this morning about Costal and they had lots of boots. I hate shopping so searching on my own was only confusing. This is a unique store in Eugene. I buy most of my work clothes here, they carry one of the if not the largest selection of carhartt clothing. They also have boots, cowboy boots, cowboy hats etc. if you own animals of any kind Coastal will have food, cages and anything having to do with critters, all the way to fencing. Coastal also has a great selection of tools. Stop by and check it out. Very friendly sales people. read more

I usually like going you Coastal but my last experience was awful. The ditzy girl at the front counter was not friendly and not smart. She sold me a product that she thought she had in stock and then sent me out in the pouring down rain to the wrong warehouse. The person at that warehouse sent me to another warehouse where there was no one to help me. I did find what was I was looking for and just took care of it by myself. Good thing I am an honest person. Coastal might want to rethink who they hire for help, it could end up costing a lot of money. read more

This place is awesome! I've been there several times with and without my child. The people there have always been nice and extremely helpful. They were even wonderful when someone brought in a bunny we were adopting. I've seen some of the reviews here and can tell you that we have NEVER experienced racism or rudeness. When the line for checking out grew, the gal called for backup cashiers. When I was looking for a particular item, they walked me to it. They explained what I was getting when I asked for hay. Just about the worst customer service I have encountered in quite some time. Easily 15-20 minutes on hold with two different people. The first lady put me on hold and never came back to the phone. wth is up with that?? When a second person finally got on the line, I had to explain myself three times what I was looking for (and it wasn't anything complicated) and then after being on hold again for a very long time, a guy gets back on the phone and tells me he misunderstood. I spend a lot of money for the company I work for. After today's experience. not a dime of it will be spent at Coastal Farm, going forward. read more

Just got home from coastal. I had a great experience as I have had for many years. I needed 200 pounds of grain and it was on sale! Nice young lady rung up my purchase and told me to drive over to the warehouse and they would load it in my pick-up. Easy as pie. I really do not understand all the negative posts. I have bought our dogs shots here for years. I have bought everything from clothes, boots,shoes and rain gear. It's an outdoor/farm type store. The staff is always nice and when I made major purchases such as a pellet stove and a gun safe they had people who worked in just those areas who spent as much time as it took to answer questions. I've shopped at Coastal Farm since 1990. I have had no complaints about the store and customer service in the past. Today (8:30am) , I had a negative encounter with a woman (Pauline) that works in the clothing dept. Her whole mannerism was not pleasant, she was combative in her verbalization, she was blaming and she lied. I don't think that is the kind of personality that will bring customers in. The end result ( Without going into details): The manager took care of my problem with the defective boots, more than I even expected (an in store credit towards another pair of boots/without me even seeing or speaking with him). When Pauline delivered the news of the credit, she made it very clear, that whatever boots I got WOULD NOT have a GTD, per the manager! My husband and I went back in this evening to get another pair of boots, the evening staff was so friendly and helpful. They are why I'll keep making purchases at Coastal Farm. read more
