Love this place. I've gotten a few firearms here already and every time, they've been amazing. Other places like big chains don't take the time to explain. Whether it's the lack of knowledge or care in customer service. I've stopped going to big chains now and have fully given these guys my business. Aside from the occasional ammo pickup but, besides during this whole fiasco, Mazama usually has all the ammo I could ever need. They've always been super helpful and really knowledgeable. And they always had what I'm looking for. Looking forward to fishing time and seeing what else they've got to offer. From what I've seen, they look like they could have just about anything I could ever need in regards to fishing as well so we'll see! Bought a reel ( I spend a ton at mazama by the way ) that the side separated on during first use. No big deal I'd think just change it out for another. Wrong they said they could maybe warranty it. Didn't say ya no problem we can handle this. So that's it for me and I have 100s of people in my boat a year guess what I'm gonna say? And don't respond as an owner...you need to change up the so called manager that can't even order a large pack of 5/0 owner hooks. read more

It has been a month now trying to transfer my suppressor, theres at least 5 employees running around but I have not been able to get any real help the 4 separate times I have physically went in there or the half dozen times iv called about my forrm 4 submission. They keep telling me good to go, your all good ! Then silencer shop confirms they have yet to finish their 5 min part of the order. Un helpfully. I've personally asked multiple employees "is this all I need" are we finished and everything is good to go? I get a idk man, I think so, etc. So the saga continues daily till I get them to finish their part. Im told by at and the silencer shop that this is a easy 5 min procedure. It makes me really happy to give Mazama five stars because this is a store I had wrote off a long time ago at their old location. At that time I had a bad experience with an older gentleman in the store that kind of soured things for me. Flash forward to today and it is a whole different world. It is obvious they care about their customers and make changes accordingly because a lot of the complaints people had in the past have been remedied completely. I went in to shop for another handgun for the house. I had a couple specific models in mind but I was blown away by the selection available. Prices were reasonable, many a bit above what you may find online but it is worth it to have the hands on-experience with the very knowledgeable staff and to support a local business at the same time. Plus, I know if I ever have trouble or need something they are just a few minutes away. The best part: The employee that helped me, that's right, the same older gentleman from before. A very different and pleasant interaction. He was kind and friendly and was genuinely interested in passing on his vast knowledge of firearms. They even installed new upgraded sights on the gun for me free of charge despite the fact I bought those online. This will definitely be my go-to store going forward. Check 'em out! read more

Guy walks in that's obviously new to firearms only to get treated like an idiot and basically ran off. Steve helped me choose a gun for personal protection .I am a single woman .Steve was very informative and polite. I would consider myself an experienced beginner. I owned guns many years ago but didn't practice shooting very much. Personnel at the shooting range ,where I later practiced with the gun, told me that the gun was perfect for me and that they would have chosen the same gun for me. It is lightweight, not too much recoil and fits nicely in my hand. I was shopping on a Sunday . The store was quiet and we had lots of time to talk about and compare gun models.The background check literally took 5 minutes. I like this place. Have bought 3 guns so far from here. The prices are a little cheaper then Cabela's, but more expensive then other small gun shops. I actually really like their other things that they have besides guns. I have bought my 2 favorite hats here (STLHD fish hats) and they carry my favorite snack (Doug's nuts). Really the only spot in town for a wide selection of fishing gear. I get the bulk of my bass stuff here, from plastics, to line, to rods and reels. Surprisingly affordable to have them spool them up for you. And then there's the gun side of the store. The prices aren't as low as you'll pay online, but the wealth of knowledge and advice you get is well worth the premium. Very friendly service too. read more

I like this shop. I like the people that work there for the most part. But I think you'd serve more clientele if your employees didn't go off on rants about politics and conspiracy theories. I'm a democrat that likes guns, so I don't want someone to start screaming snowflake when I'm asking valid questions about adding accessories to my hunting rifles. Just makes me want to walk out and go to another shop. I'm not the only one that feels this way about this shop. I think your employees assume that someone is a Republican because they are shopping for rifles or handguns. Mazama was the first place to introduce me to shooting after moving up here from California, and I'm so glad I found them. Since my first visit, I've also been to Cabela's, Big 5, Walmart, and a couple of independent places in Portland, Bend, and Newport. None of these others have come close to Mazama in any category: prices, quality, selection, or friendliness and expertise of staff. A couple months ago, I got an upper parts kit online and brought it into Mazama. First of all, the team member (I think his name was Eric or Ryan) gave me honest advice to fit within my budget and needs as an amateur to help me pick out a great Aero Precision lower, a Bushnell red dot, and a BCM QD attachment that made for a fantastic rifle. He then helped me build the kit and gave me a lot of great tips on setting up, using, and maintaining the rifle, so instead of struggling with youtube videos for weeks I was ready to go and shoot it within a day of the kit arriving. I've since put about 2000 rounds through it and am very satisfied and grateful for the above-and-beyond service, kindness, skill, and patience that they always show. I've also done an FFL transfer for a handgun and bought a 10/22 and a used 12 gauge from them, all of which were great experiences. I can't believe I see other people complaining about the employees on here, I'm a college kid from California and knew jack-shit about firearms when I first walked in but they never treated me with anything but respect and generosity (unlike EVERY SINGLE other gun store I've been to in Oregon, who have been quite short, suspicious, and condescending towards me). Every person I've met here behind the counter clearly has a passion and skill for informing their customers about firearms safety, 2nd amendment rights, and technical knowledge in a kind and respectful manner. Frankly, if you didn't have a good experience here, you're probably an asshole. If you're in the area, and ESPECIALLY if you are new to firearms, please visit Mazama, they are stand-up people who deserve the business, and you definitely won't regret it!!! read more

Firstly, I really like that their website has an inventory of their available firearms and is open on Sunday. I stopped by their store this past weekend and was greeted warmly when I walked in. I went over to the gun counter but it took a good 10 minutes for a clerk to finally come over to assist me. They were kind of busy but it would have been nice not to have to wait so long or at least have someone say they'd be right there. I did see a clerk helping another person so I just figured I'd wait my turn. Not the end of the world, but if someone is coming into your store to look at firearms it would be a good idea to make sure that you assist them as quickly as possible. As I was looking at the guns in the case and waiting for a clerk I overheard an older gentleman talking to the same clerk and mentioning his experience with firearms and how often he goes shooting. I saw the clerk take out what looked like a .357 revolver and then out of the corner of my eye I noticed that the barrel was pointing right at me. Taking a step back I noticed the older gentleman pointing the gun towards the front of the store (with the parking lot beyond) and I gave an odd glance to him but he seemed oblivious to the fact that he just pointed a gun at me. I suppose in his many years of expertise no one ever taught him the four rules of gun safety. I was tempted to have a nice chat with this man and the employees but the same clerk (a younger guy) didn't do or say anything to the guy pointing the gun in an unsafe direction. I was about to leave the store but they had a few guns I really wanted to check out so I looked at some accessories until Mr. Gun Safety left the counter. Once the clerk was able to assist me he was friendly and helpful and I was also impressed at the selection of guns available - they have more obscure firearms than you will find at Cabelas. Also plenty of accessories as well. I checked out a few firearms but noted that their prices were a bit on the high side but after the experience of having someone point a gun at me I decided to leave and I honestly don't think I'll come back to this store and if I do I will never make a big purchase here. To the owners - please train your staff to never, ever let customers point a gun in an unsafe direction. You just lost my business (you had two handguns I wanted to purchase) and I ended up finding one of them at my local Bi-Mart for $50 less and didn't have anyone point a gun at me either. read more

I shopped all over town for my first handgun, and was met with indifference at many local gun shops. As a woman gun shopping alone, with little experience with firearms, I felt like most people didn't take me seriously. The first time I went into Mazama I had to wait a bit for service as the sales staff was busy with other customers, but when it was my turn I had the sales associate's full attention. He took the time to discuss options based on the size of my hands, and functions I was seeking. I left that day with three recommendations for hand guns to shoot before purchasing. When I did come back to make my purchase, the sales associate remembered me by name and made sure I understood the function of each part of my gun, as well as how to disassemble and clean my gun and put it back together. When in to find out about a particular gun I was interested in. And Steve who was working on Sunday the 22nd help me tremendously , let me handle the gun ,answered my questions and didn't make me feel stupid despite my lack of knowledge because I'm a first timer/A real newbie. I only wish that their gun prices weren't so high because online I could save $89 off the price of price of what I want. If they would price match I would so go to Mazama. That's the only thing because I need to be able to get what I want without spending a fortune because there's so many other things I have to get along with it. Frustrating because I would much rather purchase locally but that's a big difference financially. But they are really great people to work with. No I hear you when you replied but the $89 was after transfer fees and a background check. It's $119 cheaper before that. If it was closer to 400 I would pay the extra to go to your shop but 469 $119 more I know that you guys have overhead but that lot more money. I love to support my local stores , but my budgets also really tight because I also have to add it gun safe because I have a grandson. And I still have a second class I want to take. I have always had great service here. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I have recently gotten into building and they always have valuable information and parts that I really need for my rifles. They have even special ordered tools for me and given me great recommendations for the right tool for the job. Their selection is excellent, and if you don't see what you need their online service is fantastic. I have utilized their website several times for purchases. This store has a lot of potential in this market, and I feel they are doing things right here. Enough of those big retail stores like Cabelas. The prices and service aren't even close. The guys behind the counter, Erin and AJ, were some of the most helpful salesmen I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. Not only were they both very knowledgeable overall about guns they were also very helpful in my tough decision for my first purchase even offering to special order a model that was not in stock and really trying to make sure I would not regret this once in a life time buy.
