Our group of 7 had a really great full-day rafting trip on the McKenzie with Kamis and Ariel at…read moreOregon Whitewater Adventures! We arrived to the meeting spot around 10am and got back to the cars around 3:15pm. Reservations were easy to do online, and I received the confirmation email shortly after with details on timing, meeting location, and what to expect for the day. This was the only communication we received, so if you're someone who finds reminder emails helpful, you may not get it with OWA. We were split up between two boats with one additional solo guest. The shuttle ride was quick to Paradise campground, leaving the meeting point around 10:10am. The guides set us up with life jackets and paddles, provide us with instructions for paddling and safety, and after hopping in the boats and doing some practice strokes, we were on our way. The deli-style lunch was set up for us about 2 hours into the trip (12:30pmish). We ate at a campground with bathroom access. The lunch spread consisted of bread, deli meats, cheese, sauces/condiments, melon, veggies, chips, cookies, PB/jelly, sodas - a surprisingly vast assortment and was a treat after a few hours on the water. The entire trip was really fun. We enjoyed chatting with our guides, paddling into the rapids and enjoying the scenery. Our boat hit a rapid "just right" and two members of our raft fell out, but we moved quickly to get them back in the raft and all had a good laugh about the rapid. The only thing I wish is that OWA would offer photos (just cell phone, nothing fancy). As they carry a dry bag and phones, it would have been nice to have a photo of our group that could be emailed/texted after the trip. Or from the staff member who sets up the lunch. We all really enjoyed our day and would definitely be interested to do another trip with OWA. And as the email says, "And remember, a guide can over tip your boat, but you can't over tip your guide."

Took some clubs out to demo area. Decided on clubs. Pick out shoes and bag inside. I ask my helper can I get any type of deal if a buy all right now. Was told big NO. Not politely. Just NO . Keep in mind this was a big purchase. So I asked this question. I picked up a sleeve of balls. " I will buy all right now if you throw in this sleeve of balls" My helper whom seemed upset for me to ask for a tiny discount for spending close to 2k came back and said NO. I WALKED OUT, slowly. I thought no way they let me leave. They did. I had to borrow my mom's clubs for tournament.

This is a boat company that has its main store location just off of 99 but also does rentals from…read morethe Orchard Point Marina on the Fern Ridge Reservoir, which is handy if you don't have a car rack. They don't have posted hours on their website but it seems like the guy who does the rentals at the marina shows up around noon or so then shuts down around 7pm. The rental person definitely has old boat guy vibes and sense of humor so if that's not your thing, well, now you know. Cash or check only so come prepared; there's an ATM at the minimart about 5 minutes up the road from the marina. You pay for the whole day not by the hour so if you want to do a longer day this is a very economical way to do it. You can rent canoes, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and even a couple of small sailboats. None of the equipment is super new or nice but it works. At the time of year that we went (early September), the reservoir's shores were totally occluded by marsh grasses, limiting how much exploring we could do of the wetlands. But my guess is that at other times of year you can see lots of wildlife etc along the shore. Overall I would recommend, especially if you want to go kayaking but don't have a roof rack to transport.

I came in to check out one alt handlebar (Jones H Bar) and they had it in stock along with the other bar I was considering (Surley Moloko) so I got a good feel for both of them. They had a good price on both too. In a world of mega shops and online retailers, this is the kind of place really stands out, allowing the customer to check out equipment hands on and make better informed decisions. Edit to add: a couple things that this shop didn't have that made it a great place to shop; no high pressure, and no "hyper-masculine" attitude. I was able to look and check out items without someone peering over my shoulder, and a number of different folks came in and I noticed the staff was helpful to all of them. As to the lack of a hyper-masculine culture- well anyone who bikes a lot knows that biking, and bike shops tend to suffer from a certain culture- lots of talking of pace lines or peloton, shredding and scar comparison. They can also be dismissive of overweight and older people (such as myself) who might need, um... more robust equipment.... The staff treated this middle aged ultra Clyde as a serious rider which I really appreciated. This shop was very oriented to bikes as fun an and transportation, with gear that is useful to most people who want to get out and enjoy riding and commuting. They may have more specialized equipment as well but I wasn't looking for that and so can't speak to it. Need a German national team jersey with the popular Michael Ballack on it? They've got you covered. Need a David Beckham LA Galaxy jersey? Sorry, American soccer just isn't quite there yet. He espoused minute factoids about what I could expect from a range of different brands and styles. He even recommended that I buy a dual purpose cleat for turf and grass because the men's city league would switch to turf in the rainy season. I was treated like a fucking king, and I felt awesome.
