Going to Costco is a known quantity. You gladly maneuver the crowded aisles, load up with good values and questionable quantities and then queue up for the damage to your debit card. Your reward for running the Costco gauntlet is a final stop at the snack bar. An oversized hot dog and a soda for a buck fifty, a slice for a couple bucks or the chicken bake for four. So what gives with the newest item, the roast beef sandwich for $10? Surely it must be something amazing if your club member price for this single sammy is about what you'd pay for an entire pizza or 6.66 hot dogs and sodas. The menu describes the sandwich as follows: "loaded with sliced roast beef, onion relish, mayo/mustard blend, lettuce, roasted cherry tomatoes, red onions on an artisan roll (790 cal.)" The sandwich is big enough (for two average appetites) to share. There's a lot going on flavor wise between the onion relish, mayo and mustard. This almost gives (hides) what should be the star flavor of the show, the roast beef, a supporting role. It's also a somewhat messy sammy...grab extra napkins. It's gonna get sticky. Would I order this again? No. And no disrespect to the Artisans (of the artisan roll guild) but the picture on the menu makes the sandwich look much better than what you get... But, if I did order it again, I would hold the onion relish and ask for extra roasted tomatoes. Can you "get it your way" at the Costco snack bar? Hmmm, probably not. And now back to your regularly scheduled Costco dog and a soda for a buck fifty. "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a full cart, must be in want of a snack bar reward." - Jane Austen, Spied and Emesis

The security guard baby sitting us. - The image shows a silver SUV parked in an outdoor parking lot, with trees and a sidewalk visible in the background. The photo is taken from inside a vehicle, capturing part of the dashboard, door, and a person's arm. The parking lot appears mostly empty, with clear weather and leafless trees indicating a possible fall or winter season.

We had to go to Eugene to drop off spouse at the airport. So we decided to stop at Costco and fill up gas tank plus we needed to go in and shop before heading back home which is 2 and a half hours away. We are here early like 1 and a half before they open. We are sitting in parking lot and get hassled by the security. We are doing nothing but waiting until doors open minding are business and she is baby sitting for us and giving us dirty looks. I'm sorry but we come to this Costco when in the area very often and spend $300-$500 every trip. Very uncomfortable specially when we're not doing anything wrong.

Pallets of snack products are arranged on the warehouse floor of a Costco store. The display includes Terra Classic Sea Salt chips on the left, Eat & Path veggie snacks in the middle, and other snack varieties on the right. The background shows warehouse shelving and a Costco sign, indicating the retail environment. The image captures the bulk packaging typical of wholesale stores.

We always enjoy walking through these stores--there's something interesting around every corner, and the wide selection makes it easy to discover new products or stock up on favorites. On this trip, we were also trying to keep our everyday costs down while traveling. We're staying in an Airbnb that has a coffee maker and provides basic coffee, but we prefer flavored coffees. From past visits, we knew that US Foods Chef'Store carries an impressive selection of coffee syrups, with far more variety than you'd typically find at a regular grocery store. Rather than spending $5 to $7 each day on coffee while out and about, we planned ahead and stopped in to pick up a bottle of syrup to use during our stay. It turned out to be a simple and cost-effective solution. The store was easy to get in and out of, and the only real challenge was narrowing down our choice from the many different syrup flavors and brands available. Overall, this stop was quick, efficient, and exactly what we needed. If you've never been to a US Foods Chef'Store--whether you're shopping for bulk items, specialty ingredients, or just looking for better value--we definitely recommend checking one out.

They're expensive so I generally save ordering from Market of Choice for a special birthday... not just an average one. It was $60 and it looked BEAUTIFUL. My first indication that it wasn't going to be all that good was the fact that while cutting it after singing happy birthday, the frosting was coming up in chunks, not staying flat on the cake. It was really odd... but the reason it did that was that their butter cream or fondant was thick as can be... in fact, there was much more chunky frosting on the cake than actual CAKE. And the frosting, due to its thickness, was coming away from the cake in slabs. Several of the kids (and my family, too) just ate the cake from the center and left the other half of the piece that was on their plate alone- the "frosting". The KIDS said the frosting was too thick and too sugary. Yes, the kids. Us adults had issues with it, too... and it was in the center, as well, between the 2 layers, which made them separate in a weird way, too. The cake, except for the bottom 1/3 of the lower layer, was ok. The bottom was either overcooked or it was freezer burned from being a frozen layer of cake and used when it was needed... and it was hard and darker (darker yellow that the rest of the white cake layer)... and so it wasn't edible, either. It looked amazing. But the fact that it was supposed to be edible food was problematic. Normally, I'd not say anything but a few of the ones we'd gotten from them over the years had the same frosting issue except that it was the fact that the frosting was SO MUCH of the overall cake, that it was ridiculous what was paid for it... and, again, it was THICK, LIKE A MASSIVE BLANKET molded over the soft layer cake inside. Anyhow... not a good bargain at $60. That will be our last Market of Choice Bakery cake.

He actually said "what do you want me to do about it!" I said excuse me?! I asked if he was an employee, his badge was turned around, I thought maybe this guy doesn't work here. He said again in a hostile manner " what do you want me to do about it!" And before I could say anything, he told me I was being rude. I said excuse me? " he said you are being really rude right now!" I said "I just asked you a simple question" and then I told him to step back from me get away from me go back to your till. You are upsetting me. I was in such disbelief. I was thinking to myself, what's happening here?! He was actually scaring me and I felt I was being bullied because he didn't know how to answer my question. I will never go back to this Springfield store. I'll try the one on Chad Drive and hopefully it works out better.
