This is the best Hainan chicken rice I've had in the US! As a Singaporean, I have Hainanese blood in my veins-- my grandmother used to make it from scratch, it is the ultimate comfort food for me. Cluck2go is authentic in its portrayal of Hainanese chicken because of its ~simplistic~ approach. Nothing can beat the Hainanese chicken from Singapore but this is close. The chicken is tender & juicy, and the rice is flavorful (from the chicken broth it is cooked in) but not too heavy. I am a fan of their green ginger sauce and their spicy orange ginger sauce as well. It pairs perfectly with the chicken. Although not a Singaporean dish, Their honey garlic wings were also delicious! If you're coming in a party of 2, I suggest getting a half chicken and sharing rather than ordering two separate individual orders-- it costs less and you get way more food. Or alternatively if you are coming in a bigger group, definitely consider getting a whole or half chicken and sharing. It comes with a bowl of chicken rice per half chicken but the price for additional bowls of rice is low, and each portion of rice is quite large. We were given a very, very strong recommendation from a Taiwanese friend to come try Cluck2Go. He raved about how it was the best Hainan chicken he's ever had. Hainan chicken close to Old Town Pas? Heck yeah, we're going. The store is tiny and unassuming, the ambience a little sterile. The girl who was in charge for the night was super nice and chatting with the customers (the guy before and us). She asked if we had been there before, how we heard about them, and seemed very excited when we said we were given a recommendation. We ordered both white meat and dark meat along with the chicken rice. The portions are large and really filling. The best part was how there is minimal bone with the chicken. I love the pickled veggies they serve with the chicken as it cuts through the fatty chicken skin. It comes with a small cup of chicken soup with a thin layer of hot chicken fat on top. Came in with the family for dinner one night and while praised by my brother, I didn't think of it as high as he did. We ordered a whole chicken (comes with two rice) and ordered two more bowls of rice. A spicy cucumber salad, steam assorted vegetables, and hainan rice noodle soup. The best thing was the whole chicken. The rest were pretty mediocre or below it. The chicken is deboned and plates in halves. It must be noted that it isn't a "whole" chicken as the back is gone, but that is to be expected. While the chicken does have some yellow chicken taste, it isn't seasoned very strongly since they offer a spicy sauce, ginger+green onion sauce, and sweet soy sauce as dipping accompaniments. One last thing about the chicken, there were still bones in it haha. So not fully deboned. The hainan rice didn't taste much of the ginger and garlic. It is simply emulsified chicken oil rice. The consistency is there, but the flavor is severely lacking. The spicy cucumber salad wasn't marinated long enough. The cucumbers were prepared correctly (smashed), but the spicy sauce hasn't had enough time to sauce into the cucumbers. The assorted vegetables could have been voided. Even microwaveable vegetables are better then what was offered. The rice noodle soup was nice. Pretty clear broth minus all the chicken oil of course. But pretty simply dish and not too praiseworthy. Overall, like the chicken, but just nothing else. Definitely a good place to try for quick and go. You can sit down and eat, but don't expect too much service as the place is meant for quick and go. read more

Best chicken rice so far in LA. The chicken is tender and silky yet not too fatty. It's a bit better than Savoy. The rice is full of chickeny flavor, and more of a drier grain by grain texture which I prefer. It's way better than the mushier and bland rice that Savoy serves. The one thing I would have liked to be done differently is to have a red chili sauce and thick soy sauce that's more similar to the ones in Singapore. The ones here is more oily and not very spicy, and the soy sauce isn't viscous enough for me. Maybe this one is just a different style of chicken rice from a different region, so I won't ding them on that. We also ordered the deep fried buns with condensed milk. The bun is the layered kind; I've previously only had the solid bun, but I think the layers actually help with the crispy texture of he friedness. I was licking the condensed milk towards the end, so they could be a bit more generous with that the next time. The restaurant actually forgot to pack the buns in our to go bag, so we only discovered that we were bun-less when we got home. We called the restaurant and they were extremely apologetic, and they actually sent someone to deliver the buns to us with a free tea to make up for it. That was really thoughtful and considerate of them. They seem to really care about improving themselves while they're soft opening the restaurant. Yes Pasadena has Meh, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean places. All very Americanized with non living up to the standards you find in Los Angeles and Alhambra. This place is different! The food is authentic and really good! My wife had the chicken noodle soup with thick rice noodles and she loved it. Noodle soup is her absolute favorite and she said she would come back here any day of the week. I had the Hainan Chicken and it was really good! It's been a long time since I've eaten at Savoy but I don't remember it being as good as this place. They even have sweet soy sauce available which you don't see very often. Chicken done right! Unfortunately they need to fine tune all the other dishes which is understandable given the soft opening stage. For 4 hungry people we got a whole chicken (comes with 2 big rice bowls, two soups, and 4 sauce pairs) and a chicken plate (soup, rice, sauce pair) along with honey chicken wings for an appetizer. With the 10% check in coupon it totalled $40. The food arrives as it is cooked and it took almost 15 minutes to get our Hainan chicken which is disappointing given that we were the 2nd customer of the day. For the food itself, volume wise it was plenty and I could do without the expensive wings (basically $1/wing). The chicken was tender, moist and plentiful. Best of all besides the drumstick, there practically no bones. The meat was well butchered and flavorful. It was uniquely paired with vietnamese pickled vegetables. For the sauce, I preferred the green as the orange was too sweet. The soup was very bland and needed to be reduced (I would trade this for more sauce). The rice although brown and oily could use some herbs or additional brightness. Finally, a tip for management - the oval plates do not fit in the trash can hole unless folded in half. My go to place for Huinan Chicken. Chicken is tender and flavorful. My family always fight over the chicken rice as well. Spicy cucumber salad is hit or miss, but is phenomenal when it's a hit. Opens up the tastebuds so all the flavors of the meal really intensify. Broccoli is always a bit on the overcooked side for my liking but I get it anyway for greenage. Ordering is much easier now, no need to order first and get a number and then a table....You can order at the table, and that makes a LOT more sense. They've also renovated somewhat, so there's now a long booth/couch that is along the wall, and allows for a few more tables! MUCH better use of the space, less chaotic too! Service is still as good as ever, friendly and attentive. The large "combo B" was amazing with dark meat chicken. It was a classic Hainan chicken rice with tender meat, tasty rice, and fresh ginger sauces. The sides of cucumber, peanuts (seasoned with ginger, peppercorns, and cilantro), green beans were great. I also got a broccoli side and that was excellently seasoned too. The only issue was that I got a smaller "combo A" with just white meat, and the white meat was tough and dry. White meat is always a little tough/dry, but this seemed to be from a different stock - like they grabbed some cooked chicken breast from Ralph's and re-steamed it. My family enjoys eating at this place especially for their Hainan Chicken and rice. I ordered my food online. Ordering online was a simple process. Just go on their website, click online ordering, choose your location, pick what you want to order, and set a time/date you want to order. From what I saw, you can only order for the day of and for the next day. You pay when you get there. I ordered half a chicken with dark meat only, which comes with one bowl of chicken rice, 2 sauces each, and a small bowl of soup. I also ordered an extra side of chicken rice. I set to pick up my order from 3pm-3:15pm. It was a little confusing because the online confirmation said my order would be ready at 3:15pm. I got a text that my order was ready at 2:45pm. I was on my way but it took me a while to get there because I came from Long Beach. They were nice enough to call me around 3:20pm asking when I would be coming to pick up. I was able to make it there at 3:30pm. They blocked off the area from the middle of the restaurant. Make sure you have your order number ready and know what you've ordered because they don't put your name down. There is parking in the front. I was able to easily find parking directly in front of the restaurant. There were a couple of people standing inside and waiting in line when I picked up my order. My family ate the food. They thought the chicken was juicy and flavorful. The rice had a lot of taste to it too. The rice had a good portion compared to most places from been to, but the half order of chicken seemed a bit small. Either way, my family devoured almost all the chicken because it was so good. The rice is cooked in with the chicken broth. It's so good sometimes I just pick up some rice to have with dinner at home. It hasn't been that long since I was lucky enough to stumble upon this place but I grab something from here at keast 2-3 times a week. Everytime I go there are at least 2 or more people waiting to pick up theirs too. Always a good sign. The chicken was juicy and with the mixture of ground ginger scallion paste and tangy red chili sauce, it was a match made in heaven. I ordered a carry out and it came with a soup, chicken and rice box, sauces and pickled veggies. The chicken is very tender and juicy (I ordered dark meat). The soup was so so but since I didn't expect soup, it was still a plus. The sauces were nothing compared to the real thing, it was really tasteless as compared to Savoy (which is my all time favorite).
