Mid mountain restaurant and famed après ski party site on Aspen Highlands. Not a big lodge, with a cramped indoor space that sits 20-30 guests and an outdoor patio that's about the same size. Ski/snowboard in and out. Definitely get a later reservation ($50 deposit minimum, 1:30 or 1:45pm) to get into the party. The food is pricey, and the champagne list is even pricier. My friend and I both got a hot chocolate to start. It's an okay hot chocolate for $8. The prix fixe mains are like $68 each and includes soup or salad. I got the short rib and got the soup. The soup is a shellfish (maybe lobster) bisque which was decent. The short rib came with some greens and potatoes. Tasted fine, although portion is not that big. Lastly, ordered the chocolate fondue which is $25 and can only be ordered if your group has 2 or more people. Portion wise this was pretty big, and has a bunch of ingredients like berries, marshmallows, cookie chunks etc. to dip into the chocolate sauce. Overall bill including tip was around $120 per person. Will be a lot more if you order alcohol. The apres-ski party starts at around 2:30pm, and happens in the outdoor space. Highrollers that buy champagne are given special champagne spray guns that look like Thompson submachineguns. The DJ starts blasting the tunes and everybody is singing along and dancing (as well as you could in ski/snowboard boots) while people spray thousands of dollars worth of champagne all over the place. Was a bluebird sunny day when I was there, so got the beautiful backdrop of the blue skies, snow on the ski runs and mountains in the distance. Party ends at about 3:45pm after all the lifts close, and hopefully you're not too drunk to get down the mountain. Overall, a pricey but fun experience. We had so much fun at Cloud Nine! Picture an Après party at the top of the mountain and that's what you've got. We sat down at 1:45 PM and that was the perfect time to be able to eat lunch before the All pray party began. We were seated inside a small table and our waitress was incredibly kind. We ordered the muscles and shrimp with fondue and a bottle of champagne. The actual champagne did not start until 3 PM and they had a fun countdown and lots of build up and music. The actual spray only lasted maybe 15-20 minutes but was a blast. The food was much better than expected and they gave you garbage bags to put your ski clothes in so they didn't get soaked would not recommend this spot to first time skiers as it is a harder blue to get down. read more

The prices of everything is also as high as the clouds but it's on top of a mountain in Aspen so what else do you expect at the rich peoples party. The 3pm après-ski party is like nothing I've ever seen! Music bumping, people dancing on tables, and hundreds of dollars of Champagne being sprayed everywhere. Such a fun experience... I will say the inside party was so hot, humid and smelt like straight booze that I almost puked just walking inside. I also got aggressively pushed by a server as I was trying to walk to the bathroom. I'd suggest enjoying the party outside which seemed much more enjoyable. Went there over the weekend of January 23rd. Had a great time, but when it came to pay, our group clearly explained that we wanted to pay for our $267 tab with $100 cash, and the rest on a credit card. Our server, Cliff, must've pocketed the cash, as we left a 20% tip in addition to the $267, thinking that he deducted the $100 from the total. The total we were charged for was $317, in addition to the $100 cash we already gave. After explaining this to the credit card company, Cloud Nine has continued to deny our claims, and suggests that there was ever any cash involved. Great location, shady business. If I could give zero stars I would. My friends and I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant. Our waiter was super rude from the minute we walked in. Ordered a bottle for our table, within 2 minutes of sitting down we were pressured to order food while half of the restaurant was empty. We tried to order a few appetizers to share but because every person in the party (only 5 people in our reservation) didn't order something we were kicked out. They would not let us order another bottle or the appetizers we wanted. He stated he wasn't going to waste his time waiting on us if we wanted to share appetizers. They would not let us finish our drinks without bringing the pay check 1 minute later. The waiter was very rude and in our faces the entire time and then got the manager to tell us to leave while we were saying hi to our friends. Really weird experience. Cloud 9...Oh How I Love Thee So! Having started as a ski patrol shack/warming hut in 1973 with daily ski jumping shows by the ski patrol through the mid-1990s, to today's Veuve Clicquot Ice Bar and Champagne-spraying with music pumping on the sun deck, Cloud 9 is considered one of the best day dance parties among the jet-setting crowd and Hollywood A-listers. This is not your typical Vegas pool party crowd. Having been run since 1998, first by Austrian-born Andreas Fischbacher and now run by Swedish-born Tommy Tolleson, Cloud 9 has a European chalet and party feel of Verbier, Switzerland and St. Anton, Austria combined, in my opinion. Cloud 9 is Veuve Clicquot's #1 Account in the Country, so that should tell you something...especially since it's only open a few months of the year! Rumor is, the staff keeps count of all the bottles sprayed, and the number is like 100-140 bottles per afternoon, and that's only during a two hour period from 2pm-4pm! So, for those of you who don't know, meaning, the people who wrote negative or average reviews, you DON'T come to Cloud 9 for the Food! You come for the drinking, dancing and champagne popping/spraying, starting at 2pm. I mean, sure, you can come and have lunch and go back out and ski, but you'll be missing the whole point of Cloud 9. That would be like going to watch a sunset at 3pm, then leaving at 5pm before you even see the sun set at 7pm, lol. And the food at Cloud 9 is good, but nothing to write home about, which is why I think people are disappointed. And of course, if you don't like to be around a "Party Atmosphere", then don't stay here past 2pm because that's when it all starts and there's a HIGH LIKELIHOOD that you'll be doused/sprayed/soaked with Champagne. EVERYONE gets sprayed with Champagne here, that's the point. Insider Tips: 1. If you wanna a table at Cloud 9 on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday during peak ski season, then you'd better call a Month in Advance for a reservation. They have a 12pm seating and a 2pm seating...get the 2pm. 2. If you don't have a reservation, get here around 2pm, and hang around the bar area or just join a table, which is easy to do as everyone's drunk, and stay till they close at 4pm. 3. I highly recommend you drink, A LOT, as it gets Crazy, lol. 4. If it's your first time, or to do at least once, buy a bottle of Champagne to pop open and spray onto the crowd of people dancing on the deck or inside the restaurant. They won't mind cause THAT'S WHAT YOU DO HERE. It's $125 for a bottle of Veuve Clicquot which isn't cheap, but you're on Vacation, in Aspen, at the Top of a Mountain at 11,000 feet, with 250 drunk/crazy people, with good music blaring, and you may only do this once in your life. I'm telling you, it's Worth Every Penny! Sounds crazy, I know, but it's more fun than you think it would be cause it's something so out of the norm of what logic tells you to do. So, follow the right side of your brain and throw logic out the window, haha. I would normally NEVER waste a good bottle of Champagne, but when I'm at Cloud 9 it makes TOTAL sense to do so, lol. 5. Stay till the very end, like 4:30pm and then ski down the mountain, unless you're too drunk to do so, at which point, Ski Patrol will take you, along with a dozen others, down the mountain in a Snowcat vehicle. But if you can ski it, do it. There's no one on the trails anymore and there's nothing like skiing while your drunk, can't describe it, it's just fun. And that's about it, haha. As you can see, I LOVE Cloud 9, and well, so do many others as this place is so popular and famous. Just get here, even if you don't ski that well - ski patrol can take you down. This was a beyond disappointing experience. We made a "standard apres" reservation for 1:45 pm as we wanted the apres experience at cloud 9, not the lunch experience that we would have at an earlier seating. When we arrived we were seated at a table crammed between other tables that barely fit our 6 people around. No one came to our table for at least 15-20 minutes- when someone finally came over we tried to order a couple bottles of wine but were told VERY rudely that we could not drink unless we ordered food. The attitude from the server was so off putting that we wanted to leave instantly. We said we would order a couple appetizers for the table (as we'd already eaten lunch prior to 2pm) but were told that we'd all need to order an entree otherwise she could only give us each a half glass of wine (the allotted food:alcohol ratio was extremely arbitrary and nothing I've experienced at any mountain bar/restaurant EVER). We were told that this is for "liability" issues and is a "restaurant policy". This was not mentioned anywhere in the reservation booking. Needless to say we were not interested in ordering full meals when we'd already eaten and were just looking to have a couple drinks and a fun time. We couldn't get up and leave fast enough- when you're gonna pay the outrageous prices they're charging for wine, I'd at least like to be served with a smile and not treated like the scum of the earth by the extremely condescending staff. If you are looking for one of the most fun and remember-able meals of your life, then Cloud Nine should be one of the pit stops. Its located at the top of a chair lift, at Highlands Aspen Mountain, so the adventurous need apply. You better have a reservation, because this place fills up fast on the weekends. I recommend going with a group, because this experience must be shared. I came with a party of four, with a 1 p.m. reservation and was sat by a small fireplace. This restaurant is small, so be prepared to rub elbows with your neighbor. I also ordered ahead for the fondue and raclette. You have to order these 24 hours in advance and honestly it's the best way to experience Cloud Nine. The fondue came in a huge enamel-covered cast iron tub and had an endless supply of bread. The cheese was a mixture and wasn't overly greasy. The fondue is normally $35 per person, but since we ordered the raclette as well, it was only $17 a person. If you are only looking for one or the other they are both served with a salad or soup. I got the french onion and it was sweet, with the onion broth, but filling. The raclette was something out of this world. I have never seen one of these contraptions before, but its a little griddle, with little paddles underneath. On the top griddle, the waiter put a mixture of butter, cocktail onions, golden potato wedges and garlic cloves. These take a little while to cook, so be patient and enjoy your fondue. Just as the potato mixture was finishing our waiter brought us a plate full of cheese and different salami meats. The idea is to place the meat, cheese and vegetables on to the little paddles and place them under the grill so the cheese melts and meats crisp up. I did a few paddles at a time, because they do take a little while to cook. The meat and cheese plate are bottomless, including the vegetables, which is great for the price. Since this is an experience that should be taken in and time shouldn't matter, be prepared to spend at least two hours eating. Make sure to hit those slopes early, so you're nice and hungry for lunch. Trust me though, over eating (which we all did) made the ride down the mountain a little uncomfortable, but well worth it. We finished our amazing meal with the strudel, which had a nice buttery crust and almond/nutty paste filling. I agree that there are superb places to wine and dine in Aspen, but if you are looking for a one-of-a-kind lunch, then Cloud Nine will deliver eagerly. read more

Cloud Nine is an experience unlike any other Aprés environment in the states. The bistro is at the top of the lift and seatings are at 2pm. We tried to make reservations once we booked our vacation, but a month out and they were already booked. As our travel dates approached, we would check in periodically to see if there were any openings but with no luck. However, on one of the days of our trip there was heavy snowfall and as we were already on the mountain we decided to pop in and see if there were any openings. As luck would have it we got a table for 4 right in the action. The restaurant starts as a casual eatery, but at about 3pm mayhem ensues and champagne literally rains from the ceiling while people dance on chairs. The charcuterie was on par with anything I've had anywhere and Veuve Clicquot tastes better at altitude. At $130 a bottle at 11,000 feet with spraying encouraged, the price is a non-factor. What fun place to have lunch!! The 2pm seating at Cloud 9 turns into a champagne party with a DJ and dancing, plus they serve the classically French raclette. Potatoes, peppers and garlic are grilled on a flattop in the middle of the table and cheese is heated in little trays under the flattop. While this was really tasty, it was a bit hard to eat with a group as the servings were so tiny we needed to be replenished every 10 minutes. Now that Aspen Mountain staff have taken control, 47 year olds acting like 17 year olds with their dad's black card reign supreme here. If you don't mind crappy house music blared over the house stereo and waiting for your table's food to come with some mains arriving 20 minutes after others, go for it. Comments from the staff like, "you can either deal with it or not" create a warm and friendly atmosphere most would enjoy. Despite having eaten here before most of the lift-operator-cum-wait-staff-extraordinaire bought their first bong, me and my table were considered second citizens compared to the Jersey Shore casting remnants with napkins tied around their heads. No thanks, guys. You've ruined the best restaurant in Aspen Valley. Good Job! p.s. If you still are interested after the above then please know the food is way off: Raclette doesn't even include real raclette type of cheese. Duck Confit was undercooked and tough. OK. I know it's not fair because I think under normal circumstances I would have loved this spot. But please READ THIS REVIEW SO YOU DO NOT SUFFER THE SAME MISTAKES I DID. So we went to Aspen Presidents' Day Weekend in a big group and we found out that this place is THE place to go to eat some food and spray some Champagne all over your friends but it books SOLID a month in advance (at least it did during Presidents' Day Weekend/ Valentine's Day). We shook down a few trees and managed to get ressies for about half of our crew (leaving the other half very jealous and upset). We could only get the 12pm seating. Do NOT do this. If you are coming for sceney fun, I will explain why not. So OK, let me state the obvious: it's a small, kind of cramped-and-shitty cabin on the side of a mountain. That's the environment. It has this terrible yellow wood, and it's not fancy at all. The view is nice, but that's about it. So no big deal if it's just the backdrop to spraying Champagne and acting like an asshole. But that's not what happens at the 12pm seating. At the 12pm seating, you must stay in your seat, behave, and put up with the shitty music and unbelievably awful service. There will be families around you. With real, live children. People treat it like a normal restaurant. You might be thinking at this point that if we were to hang around longer then we might experience the debauchery, get drunk and forget our problems. Wrong. At 2pm they turn the table. In fact, they get up on a microphone and announce that you have to leave because the 2pm people are here. Classy. They also come around selling Cloud9 hats, which is cool for about 30 seconds until you realize that half of the restaurant is already wearing them and you look like a toolbox. The music was also terrible: they decided that for the 12pm seating they would play the Top 100 Greatest Love Songs of All Time, which sounds great in theory, but after the first "throwback", we realized that none of us wanted to get drunk to Whitney Houston. Our whole table was depressed after about 20 minutes. We politely (VERY politely) asked if they would be willing to consider changing the music and they said "SORRY, this is our music for the 12pm seating," as if God himself had given the instructions. At that point, we felt like second-class citizens to the 2pm-ers. In terms of food: we got the fondue for the table which was kind of good and kind of a mistake. When the bill came and it was almost $200 a person to eat a bunch of cheese and NOT get drunk or spray champagne, it was a bit of a bummer. The tomato soup is terrible by the way. That was the price for the prix-fixe menu, and an average of 2 drinks/person. Some of us got Champagne, some didn't. Oh, and a note about the Champagne: it's basically all Veuve (at least that's all I saw anyone drinking...and everything is orange) except for maybe some more expensive vanity bottles. You can get it by the glass and it's $25 or it's $125 for a bottle. Curiously, when we asked how many glasses per bottle, they told us four. So if that's true, when you get the bottle, you are literally just paying $25 extra dollars to have the bottle at your table. All in all, I'd give it one more chance but ONLY for the 2pm seating and I certainly would have zero expectations for food, service or atmosphere. Oh, and I wouldn't like to be the one covering the check in that scenario. Hope this helps! read more
