Since my review, the owner(?) Mike has reached out to apologize and offered to reassess the system to reinstate the warranty. I have since hired a 3rd party crew to reinstall the closet so there is not much that can be done from CbD but I truly appreciate a business that values their customers. If the problem could have been discussed and remedied before it had to reach the public to have an effect that would be ideal. I do think my water damage issue where the closet system needed to come off the wall is rare (although not rare in high rise condos) but I am glad it sounds like CbD in the future will do their best to address customer's requests. I think for their effort in trying to do right in this case it should get a better rating than 1. read more

I have never had to write a bad review before, but I feel others should know of our experience. The installation of the master closet fell short of our expectations. Not only were we disappointed with the quality of the materials used, but the removal of the existing brackets and shelving also caused significant damage to the walls of the closet. After the installation, we contacted our consultant for clarification. The consultant explained that we were presented with the most severe scenarios depicted in their book, but my husband and I had not been shown these images. If we had been presented with these options, we would have chosen a different approach. Unfortunately, no assistance was offered to resolve this issue, and we are required now to hire another professional to repair the damage to the three walls. We would not use Closets by Design, again. They are overpriced for the quality of materials. Their consultants are misleading in their attempts to make a sale. I have to say, I was slightly skeptical. BACK STORY: I have remodeled three homes in the past and got burned really bad by a contractor once so I don't pay up front (1/2 at 1/2 and full at end) if they need a deposit for "materials" then I buy them myself now. I bought a brand new build condo so that I didn't have to remodel but Jesus Christ are the Pearlstone architects idiots. Seriously. We're talking doors that open to block the light switches and terrible use of closet space. NOW: I started with one closet which was one side of my laundry room which started with just a shelf and a hanging bar SUCH A WASTE! They came in, knocked it out in one day, BEAUTIFUL!!! We hired Closets by Design at the beginning of renovating our home last year. They were going to do a few things, the main one being a built-in unit in our living room for our TV and other entertainment equipment. We worked with a marvelous designer, Frances Hill of Hill House Interiors & Design. She picked Closets by Design and came over with Mary Cipriano our representative from the company for the first meeting. From the first it was obvious how sharp and knowledgeable Mary was. She got us marvelous drawings of the projects, exact pricing and some payment options as well (they have interest free financing if you qualify). As in most renovation projects, ours took longer and cost more than we originally planned. We had to push back Closets by Design's portion a few times as it was one of the last things we did. We made a few changes in the middle of the project too and it was never a problem. When the project was finally completed there were a few small issues. The team talked with us patiently. By then, at the end of the whole renovation, I was a little cranky, but they were great and put up with me. Everything was fixed perfectly and we're totally thrilled with the renovation and the part done by Closets by Design and Mary Cipriano. Highly recommended! read more

For amount of money spent the quality was shotty in areas. The cabinets were left full of wood debris, the drill job during install looks like a child installed it. It's gonna snag all over my wife's clothes. One of the drawers isn't even lined up. Maybe expected for buying a dresser at Target, but not for thousands of dollars. I think they have good communication and the staff is friendly. Most of their products look nice; however, they are expensive and the nicer finishes get even more expensive. My wife was set on getting custom built-in. Dead set. So, it's best for me to go along. Here's the thing, everything is particle board. So, how durable it is especially with kids. I guess time will tell. My only question is how will will this last? What happened after a kids spills milk or water on it? When we ordered, they were about 4-5 months to install. However there rough estimate was accurate. I felt they were completely professional in every regard but my concern is with durability. Our builder did not give us a quality closet. They used picture hanging nails to affix the closet rods. We had half the closet fall within 2 years of building and the rest of the closet was on the way down. We decided we needed to bite the bullet and pay to have our closet redone. Closets by Design came to our home and designed a new space for us. I was totally skeptical and worried that we would not have enough room or that I was going to hate it. I was 100% wrong. We have more room now than we did before and Closets by Design actually created a closet where even the corners of the closet are accessible and functional. I LOVE my new closet. Where do I start? 1. It took over 2 months to get it installed. 2. The person who was my point of contact quit and I then had to use the main number to talk to anyone. 3. The installation was messy - they left a mess. I had to vacuum things up and am still dealing with dust. 4. When they showed up to do the installation, they were confused about which drawing went with which closet. 5. The cherry on top - they damaged the outside of a door frame next to the closet. When I asked them to fix it, they told me "we will pay for it, but you have to figure out who to do it because thats not something we do." So, sure. Update: A couple weeks after installing wine racks, closet, and a huge TV built-in we had a drawer blow out its floor...it looks like all the staples were in too far from the shop that attached the floor to the drawer prior to giving to the installers. IN all fairness, the design was well done, and the install was a good job, and the closet looks very nice. BUT I have two issues: 1. the advertizing was 40% off then 15% off, then at the house another 10% off and then another $1000 off, and I still spent 13K. That means the normal price would have been more than 28K?!?!?! That, my friends is what is called a scam. Inflate the price, and give big sales. Such bulls***. I still did it because I was tired and didn't want to deal with it. 2. The installer put his tools on our bathroom marble floor and ended up damaging it. The supevisor just said, "they said they didn't do it" and refused to make it right. It is about a $700 repair and he basically called my wife a liar. I sent them an email outlining the timelione and evidences that it clearly was the installer's fault and they literally ignored the email. Don't waste your money. We've actually used closets by design twice now. The first time was to redo our master walk-in closet. Sorry, no pictures but trust me, it's amazing!! So we decided to call in there organizational expertise to make our laundry room more functional and tidy. And I really should made this post sooner when I remembered my installers names. I like to give credit where credit is do. The first guy I believe his name was Juan. A diminutive gentleman but highly professional. The second gentleman was so awesome, I'll forgive the fact that he was army and not navy. Well, it has been 3 months and the job is still not complete, however, they have my money. They have a very slick process and controlled, but make no mistake, you are not the client. They are a self serving company and once funds are taken, which is prior to even starting the job on the day, you must work into there schedule for any issues that arise. And there will be issues! Thus 3 months and still not wrapped up. I have requested multiple times to speak to a manager, however, no one has reached out. My biggest regret is we have two more projects that I have paid a 50% deposit down and will have to go through this nightmare again. They lack integrity and simply not people you can trust. Wanted to add cabinets to our Laundry Room and called them for a measure based on their reviews. Their designer, Tracey, came out the very next day and was great to work with. She chatted with my wife, provided suggestions, and measured quickly. She gave us pricing on the spot that was very competitive. We put down our deposit the next day and waiting a few weeks for the install date to arrive. They gave us a 9-11am install time and the crew showed up promptly at 9:15. They introduced themselves, were very friendly, and went right to work. We had a smaller job so the install only took around 3 hours. We couldn't be happier with the finished result. We were initially concerned with them using MDF material, but it's thick and very strong. The installation fit was perfect and the installers just did an awesome job. The sales woman was very nice & the prices were fine... The installation guys were so frustrating! SO SLOW. They only worked 3 hours on day 1...it was supposed to take 2 days and maybe a few hours on day 3. On day 3, we had plans & they told me they would be finished early...then they said 3:30pm...they ended up leaving at 6pm. My husband and I both have insane schedules & stuff to do. These men moved like turtles. It was clear 1 guy wanted to do the job right & 1 wanted to cut corners. I overheard their commentary. They also put their stuff in my bathroom...my closet is about the size of a small apartment, there was plenty of room. I don't want your gross stuff where I put my makeup. Several pieces have to be replaced because they were messed up (drawers, etc). Obviously the ideal clientele of a closet system would be someone with higher income...higher income = busier schedules. It would be nice if the installation guys came with a sense of urgency & scheduling instead of wandering in mid morning & going so slow. Even my home employees were confused why they didn't do much on day 1 and whatever their issues were on day 3. It's clear after reading other reviews -- the installation guys are the worst part of this business. Can also confirm. read more

The closet came our great! It was well beyond what I was expecting. The designer did a reaplu good job at making sure I maximized the space. My opinion on the whole process is the following: First step with Designer consultation - very professional and designed a good space for our master closet. We were excited to have signed the contract that day. Should have been suspicious of the amount of discounts we got. Top quality material is never cheap after all. But the pictures did look great on the catalog. The wait - not so bad, around 3 months. The communication - Fantastic. Always updating me on what was going on. The installation - The worst part of the experience for me. Installers with not much attention to details, seemed to be in a hurry to get out of there frankly, asked for payment first before installing a single nail. Do not patch dry walls when uninstalling the old material, so I have to do it myself now or hire someone to do it. Destroyed a section of my baseboard and would have left it like that but I complained so they left a badly arranged replacement that looks awful. Eventually I'll have to replace that myself. Did an awful job caulking missing a ton of parts that I will need to finish myself after they left. The closet material - Same quality as you will get on IKEA, just customized to fit your space. One of the drawers came damaged and was replaced by another that also has some imperfections. It's just not worth the bother to have them back and replace again. Everything looks cheaply made, honestly. Would not chose this company again if I could turn back time, that's for sure. read more

She was very thorough in showing us all design options, taking measurements, drawing up our closet design and going over ever detail with us to make sure it was exactly what we wanted. And she didn't mind that our 46 lb dog sat in her lap as she wrote up the contract. LoL Installers were very professional and knowledgeable. And the best part was that it was very affordable (about half of what I was expecting it to be.) We highly recommend them! I recently remodeled my master bathroom and moving the wall gave me more room in the closet! My closet has odd angles to the layout so I couldn't figure out a good design myself. I started searching for a closet company online and came across Closets By Design. They had an easy online option to set up an appointment and called to confirm the appointment the day before. Mary came to my house and I immediately loved her. She had wonderful ideas! She drew out a plan right there and then but because of the odd angles, had one of their engineers review it and adjust to make sure everything would fit correctly. We scheduled the installation and everyone involved kept me in the loop with great communication. They called me a week before, then the night before, and then in the morning. They were supposed to arrive between 9 and 11. The guys showed up at 8:54 and were waiting out front since it wasn't quite 9 yet! So I peeked my head out the front door and they got right out and came up to the door. The installers were friendly, professional, and cleaned up after themselves. When they were done, they had me review the closet against the design and make sure everything was the way I wanted it. And the end result is: It is literally my DREAM closet!!! Ivan and team went above and beyond in installing our closet systems. What was supposed to be a 6 hour install took them 9 because of some complications with our closet shapes. They found solutions and the closets look great. And they had to work in the dark because our house is being renovated and is currently without electricity.
