I highly recommend this company and it is owned by a woman or at least it was last time I checked. I'm an interior designer and I design quite a bit of custom furniture myself and have just moved back to Austin from Southern California. I have a new project where I recommended that my client take my drawing and have them design something similar for the laundry room as his new house has no cabinets there. They do a fabulous job here and you won't be disappointed. I use a custom cabinet company for custom millwork in the main living areas, etc.. but for closets and laundry rooms and even home offices I think they can do a great job! They did my master bedroom and den closets for me. I went with the darker wood because that's what I had throughout, but I recommend using white in closets as it doesn't show the dust as much. read more

I had been considering a Murphy bed for my second bedroom. I wished to free up some space in that room as the day bed was rarely used, if you don't count literal cat naps by my two cats. More Space Place advertised Murphy and cabinet beds. The showroom was pretty with examples of how organized your life could be with their cabinets, bookcases, closet organization systems, and Murphy beds. When I asked about a floor model of a cabinet bed, I was sent to Furniture in the Raw (nearby) to view them as there were none in the MSP showroom. I didn't like having to lie to FITR about my visit -- it felt deceitful and I didn't appreciate being put in that position -- but the trip helped me decide. I selected a cabinet bed but didn't purchase immediately as I needed to "rehome" my day bed. I began receiving emails from the sales rep every other day asking me to sign a contract so the order could be placed. I had not expected such aggressive sales tactics and found them annoying. After about 6 weeks, I did go back, sign the contract, and paid in full for the bed. The sales rep agreed to have it delivered in four weeks after I returned from a trip (and before my expected house guests arrived in March). Yay! The trip was postponed (thanks, Covid), but the bed could not be delivered early as it was not yet available. The bed is manufactured in Malasia and the sales rep had no information about shipping. I contacted her again in two weeks, still nothing. At this point, she tried to direct my correspondence/calls to the "delivery team" (whom I had never met). My impression was she was tired of dealing with me and didn't want to be bothered with any follow-up questions. Another two weeks passed; no idea of where the cabinet bed was or when it would be delivered. Now my guest was arriving and I had to hustle to borrow a blow-up mattress! So, the bed was purchased in January and by mid-March there was still no idea of where it was or when it might be delivered. The last time I contacted the sales rep, she blamed the delay on "supply chain issues" and suggested any cancellation would result in more expense as the price had increased. I took that as a veiled threat to discourage me from cancelling, but I was also irked as I knew "supply chain issues" had not prevented her from communicating the status of my order during the previous 10 weeks. Prior to the sale, I received an onslaught of unsolicited emails; after the sale, supply chain issues halt communication? I call BS. I returned to Furniture in the Raw. Lo and behold, they had the exact cabinet bed in their warehouse and it could be delivered in three days. Double checked with MSP. Nope, would be after May 1 before the bed I bought might be available. Long story short: I canceled the MSP order and bought the bed from Furniture in the Raw. Yelp reviews suggest most people had better experiences than I did, but believe me, Five Star treatment is not guaranteed. read more

We sat at her computer and went over the measurements, the details, the materials and she even added in some upgrades. Karen even offered to drive to my (Way South) Austin home after work one day to take measurements and was prompt and professional. She was always available and quick to respond to my questions. What impressed me most is she even got my delivery date pushed up and accomodated my hectic work schedule. On delivery day, the installers were on time, clean and courteous. After downsizing to a smaller house, we found the need to make better use of the limited space. This includes a home office in a bedroom and a college-kid room that we'd like to use as something other than a vacant furnished bedroom for 9 months out of the year. She had me a full virtual representation of the home office space I found on Houzz by 5:30pm. She had advice on how to design the remainder of the room as well as solutions to functionality issues I never would have thought of. She brought the whole package which is great because I have no idea on how layout a room - I simply liked the photo from Houzz. My wife and I recently purchased a new townhouse and decided that a murphy bed would be perfect for our second bedroom so that the space could double as home gym. We went to the store and looked at all the beds. The staff there was extremely helpful and patient with us as we decided which bed we wanted. In the end they were able to match our existing furniture almost perfectly. The man who came to install it showed up early and were very polite. He had drop cloths and was very careful and there is not a single scratch! When he was finished, he talked me through everything and made sure that I was satisfied with his work before he left. A few days later, a representative called from the company to ask about our experience and to make sure I was satisfied with our customer service, the install, and everyone we had talked to. We researched wall bed options from a number of different vendors online and through Yelp, but I'm so glad we went with Karen Stanley from More Space Place on Anderson. She was very patient as she walked us through the different options for the design, materials, finish, etc. for our wall bed. We were even able to use our existing mattress (I think it had to be under 11" tall). I'm quite petite, but the bed is weighted properly so that I can easily and smoothly pull it down or lift it up by myself. Pro tip: take measurements of every inch of your room (including where the window sills are, how far the window sills stick out from the wall, etc) and bring those measurements to Karen. She can mock up the room in her design software which really helps visualize how far the wall bed will protrude into the room and where you want to place it. Don't forget to measure how far the doors open into the room and where the edge of your ceiling fan comes to! The different finishes, materials, and designs make a BIG difference in the price so if you're looking to be more cost-conscious, let Karen know and she can show you which materials are the less expensive options vs. the more expensive. We put in a deposit of half of the full cost of the bed, the other half was due upon delivery. You put in the order with Karen and it takes them a few weeks to get the ordered materials in. Karen's staff then schedule a time to came to install the bed - it took a couple hours and I was glad I was there to finalize placement on the wall. They even cut small chunks out of our baseboards so that the bed would sit flush to the wall. Ask to keep the chunks that were removed so you can try to patch them back up if you ever move. You can also call More Space Place if you move in Austin and for a pretty reasonable fee they will come uninstall the bed and re-install it in your new home so that your movers don't break it! We've gained back the use of that room as an office and exercise room instead of being mostly taken up by a large bed! The process was easy and painless, delivery and installation went smoothly, and I didn't even have to pick up any tools.....soooooo worth the money! Thank you again Karen! read more

I have a one-and-a-half car garage, due to the way the previous owner of the house added on a second master suite. I went to MoreSpacePlace to figure out how to make it a bit more functional, and they upgraded it with slatwall and cabinets. The slatwall is like a better version of pegboard. You might have seen it in retail stores. The stuff in the stores is usually MDF, but this is a nice hard plastic -- rugged and impermeable to water (which will be awesome once I get the sink plumbed in). The MoreSpacePlace accessories are also much better than what what you see in the stores or could attach to pegboard. Some of the heavier duty ones actually lock into two channels, one above and one below, with a quick-release button mechanism. You're not going to accidentally knock the hook off the wall when dragging the air hose off of it. Karen, the designer, listened to me, made suggestions to make the design more functional and aesthetically pleasing, and also helped to reduce costs by helping me to think carefully about what I really needed and wanted. Stephen and William, the installers, were very professional and respectful. Not only did they do an awesome, good-looking job, but the cleanup was amazing -- no dust, nothing in my trash can, wouldn't have even known they'd been there if it weren't for the upgraded walls. We had our custom closet done by MSP about 8-9 years ago, and still LOVE it! Our walk in closet isn't huge, but it sure feels that way! The designer had to work around a window and a slanted ceiling, and did a fantastic job. I love walking in there and not having to hunt for something, I can easily find whatever I'm looking for immediately and I feel like every bit of available space is used efficiently and attractively. My husband probably loves it even more because he's a neat freak and appreciates that everything is in its place: hats along one shelf, my shoes all in their cubbies, long hanging clothes in their spot and shirts and pants always where they belong. We chose the darker finish and incorporated several shelves, drawers and cabinets, including a full wall of adjustable shelves for my shoes and boots. In addition, I have two jewelry drawers with the MSP inserts, a couple of belt racks, a tie rack and couple of valet rods (which I use way more than I thought I would). My favorites are probably the two jewelry drawers. They make it so easy to see everything and convenient because I can grab the jewelry as I'm getting dressed. Go check out their showroom! Although it's been many years, I do remember the incredible customer service, attention to detail, and seamless and quick installation process. The pricing was right too, you really get more bang for your buck with MSP. I am planning on getting a Murphy bed once we downsize to our empty nest, and look forward to working with them again. read more

We re-modeled our master closet back in 2014, and money has never been better spent! My husband actually convinced me we needed to do it as part of a bathroom remodel, and boy and am I glad he did :) Prior to the re-model, we had tons of unused space, and couldn't see anything on our shelves (which were covered by hanging clothes just above them). Janet at the More Space Place was so patient with us, and designed the PERFECT closet for our unique needs, down to the right number & spacing of shelves for my shoes, a display space for my silly armadillo Kate Spade purse (TX representing), pull-downs to utilize the space at the top of the closet, and dowel rods for me to hang my outfits for the work-week. Now, our closet is perpetually clean and organized, and I can see everything that's in it. Having been through several re-models in our home, this one definitely had the best ROI for the money spent - brings me joy every time I see it :) Also, the whole process was very easy - they clearly have the how-to down. They actually were able to install it a week early! The two men who came to install it showed up early and were very polite. It took them from about 10am - 3:30 pm, which we had been told about ahead of time. They were very polite and even closed the door when they were using loud equipment so as not to bother me. I was a little worried about the floor in the room where they were working as it is all hardwood, but they had drop cloths and were very careful and there is not a single scratch! We just had our second murphy bed installed by More Space Place. The first one we put one in the game room to act as a guest room. We just installed one in my 17 year old son's room. He has a small, odd-shaped room, with not a lot of room to move around with a queen-sized bed in it. It is ideal. He puts it up when he has friends over and needs more room, but can keep it down as long as he needs to sleep. The installers were on time, very nice, friendly, and professional. My review is for the inquiry process and customer service at More Space Place. I came in wanting to get a quote for our master closet. The designers were very welcoming and attentive. I was amazed at the level of detail and design proposals offered for tentative measurements of our master. They also had many finish options for their MDF, some almost comparable to the high end West Coast based competitor. The designer was also willing to review my design proposals for other areas in our home. I value the time that home organization designers give in designing functional space, and at the time since I had repeatedly come back to MSP - I really wanted to commit to them. On review of what we could have done at the time, my husband and I decided to focus first on the other areas of our home instead of the master closet, and sadly MSP did not seem to be as interested when we dropped the master closet from our project. At this point, they had not yet done official measurements of the spaces I wanted to update. I was willing to pay the minimum to their installation crew, since apparently they have a minimum cost for projects, because I was really impressed with the design and consultation process, but I was advised to keep them in mind when we were ready to have our master closet done or other areas done so that the project estimation would meet their minimum. We live north of Austin, and of course do understand that businesses will choose which areas they want to cover. Since then, we have had several areas of our house customized with both floor-mount and wall-mounted systems, from two of MSP's competitors who at no time said they had a project minimum. Even though we did not get to work with MSP, I would still recommend anyone who wants customized floor mount or wall mount closets to check them out. Their showroom has very good samples of their work, and their designers very friendly, professional and talented, but do ask them first and foremost if they have project minimums before investing time in the design/consultation process. My review would technically be higher but because we did not proceed with working with MSP I had to take the stars down a notch or two. read more

Joanna, our designer, worked effortlessly with us including numerous Skype calls with different options and designs. The installers were prompt and exceptionally neat, covering our floors and furniture to protect them. We did an 18 foot wall unit including 2 Murphy beds, a twin and queen, plus glass door cabinets and bookshelves. The installers took alot of time leveling the unit to insure a perfect fit. I called them more then two weeks ago (twice)..and am still waiting a call from Kayte the "designer".......I had called them in 2013 and they never came out, I had forgotten who I had called and re-called, they came out; with computers and all sorts of gear...the wall unit is fine..even though Kayte knew that we had wanted the wires (entertainment center) covered...they had to come out and make doors (extra)...interesting..the installers were fantastic ......in the meantime...while we are waiting for Kayte to call...I called Austin Custom Cabinet ...he came out immediately ....pencil and draft paper....and we are having it installed next week (oh, More Space took more then six weeks for materials to come in)........Kayte where are you.......TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! read more

Ok I am getting bids for a closet design ranging from 35K to 60K. More Space Place seemed to have the best price, the design was good, product quality seemed good and other than not offering a backing option and a library ladder they had most of what I was looking for. As I was leaving the showroom I ask my designer for the plan layout as I wanted to go home and study it.....Seemed like a reasonable request. My designer informed me they do not give out the designs? What?!! I asked how was I supposed to remember everything? Nope against their policy..... So you want me to spend 35K with you but you don't trust me with the layout of my own closet? You think I am going to go sell your top secret plans to your competitors? Ironically none of the other three companies ever asked me to see any other plans....MSP I hate to burst your bubble but you aren't designing the space shuttle here. It's a freaking closet..... I run a national company and handle over a half billion a month of others people's money. I think you can trust me with your closet plans......Maybe you need to hang a sign in your window.....Come in and be insulted and then write us a check for $35,000.....SMH... Update-The owner Joanna reached out to me after my review and was very apologetic. She went into detail as to the purpose of this policy and said they were reviewing it for possible modification going forward. Both her and my designer worked very hard to try to earn my business but ultimately I went with someone else. Alisha Love made a very quick appointment with me to follow up on coming to measure everything and install.
