A friend recommended this business and it was a great experience that should last a lifetime! My initial consult was at their office where I met Briana and was my point of contact throughout the entire process. We were building a new home and having had custom closets before, I didn't want to do without. I was able to see some of the finished work as well as some of the work being built and it's a very professional set up. Briana made the entire process effortless on my part. Fortunately, I had all the drawings from the house so she was able to come up with a rough idea of what would work based up on my needs. I had pictures from some previous closet shelving in my prior home and she was able to use that to configure something similar since I liked what I had before. Just a note, the other drawers I had installed was back in California which is why I didn't go back to them. The next step was for Briana to physically come out to the construction site to measure so she could come up with the final design and estimate. I don't even think I waited a day to get the estimate. Super efficient! They took a 50% deposit and there was a bit of lead time but this wasn't a problem since the house was going to take some time to construct. I put Briana in touch with my builder and after that, they mostly coordinated installation together so didn't have to work around two people's schedules. We had hard wood floors installed so there was some concern about the installation and any damage to the new walls/floors. But other than new drawers and shelving... you would never know they were even there. They even made special adjustments based upon what we wanted. I'm a big fan of wooden dowels to hang from instead of metal bars that typically come with custom built closets. I supplied the wooden dowels and cups to hold the dowels and they installed it all. After the installation, we noticed one drawer didn't seem to ride on a rail properly. I brought it up to Briana and Holly and they acted immediately to get someone up and repair the one rail. Out of more than 30 drawers, just one had a rail that didn't work correctly, but they replaced it instantly and there have been no further issues. Custom closets are a big investment, but if you have ever had them before... you'll never again do without. And they are well worth the money! We hope to construct another home in the future and without hesitation I will come back to Briana and Holly. They were always available and often made me feel like I was the only client. I'd like to start by saying that the people at Closet Factory (CF) are generally nice, and I appreciate everyone who came out to the house. Special shout-outs to Alicia, my designer, and Ben, who did most of the installation and fixes. They were both wonderful. The rest of the process was awful. The contract itself was a major red flag. It felt like whoever wrote the contract was afraid that I was going to take advantage of CF, and there were a number of surprises. One was a line-item you have to initial accepting that your finished design may have visible L-brackets. That isn't something their competitors do, and it's not something they show you during the sales process or that you can go see in their showroom. They also can't tell you whether or not your design will require them until you've paid the downpayment and they've sent the design off to their engineers. If that's a deal-breaker, you'll need to beg them to rush it through because normally it takes more than the 3 days you have to get out of your contract. Next up was the payment schedule. Other brands do 50% down, 50% upon completion. CF does 50% down, 40% the morning they come out to start the install, and just 10% upon completion. That means that you've paid 90% before they even start work. If you're not happy with the end result, it doesn't give you a lot of leverage. After that, my project turned into a multi-step install that took over a year to complete. There were numerous surprises and setbacks, as well as a general lack of communication from CF along the way. They typically responded to emails, but I was consistently the one who had to email to ask where we were, when they were coming out next, etc. Since this review is so long, I'm just going to hit the main points. For the tear-out of my existing closet, I had planned to have CF do it and to use the painter they recommended to patch/paint the walls. (CF won't do that.) It's an extra $150 for them to come out on separate days: once to do the tear-out, once to do the install. When I contacted the painter CF recommended, they told me they charge more if they aren't the ones to do tear-out. So I asked the painter to do tear-out, patch, and paint. I told CF I wouldn't need that service after all and asked them to remove it from the quote/bill. It turns out they never included it in the quote, so if they had done it, I would've owed additional money that wasn't in the original quote. At that time, CF was having supply chain issues. They moved their install date repeatedly, which meant I had to move the tear-out date repeatedly (and thus move my work schedule repeatedly). CF apologized and gave me a "discount" that amounted to about half a percent. Yes. Half a percent. The equivalent of getting a nickel off a $100 bill. If anything, that made me more frustrated because it felt like they didn't understand what a massive hassle all of the scheduling and logistics were. When the doors came in, it turned out CF had ordered the wrong style from their manufacturer. I wanted mitered corners; they mistakenly ordered shaker. As a solution, CF offered to charge me more money to let me keep them. Apparently shaker is an upgrade, so if I wanted to pay more, I could keep the "upgrade" instead of getting what I wanted. I declined. For the closet, the biggest issue was a mirrored door. I had requested a full-length mirror. CF offered to do an 80" mirror, which sounded great. Wrong. There's only one manufacturer that makes them in that finish, and that manufacturer isn't great at making them and shipping them safely. In the end, the mirror arrived safely and was installed crooked, with a warp, and with no backing. It turns out mirrors that tall tend to bend, so there was a body-widening warp just around the middle of the mirror, which is just what everyone wants, right? It was also noticeably not level when installed. Apparently they did some finagling with the hinge placement to accommodate the drawers they designed, and maybe there wasn't enough support in the right places. The manufacturer also didn't put any backing on the mirror, so the reflective surface was left exposed. That made it really vulnerable to scratches and impact. After another month, CF backed the mirror with a sticky white film. They'd warned me it would be ugly, but they said they could see about covering it with something to make it look nice. They didn't. I asked twice more about having them cover it that it looks better, but they literally told me to get contact paper off Amazon and cover it myself. If I recall correctly, they charged me about $1800 for the mirror. So that's an $1800 mirror that I have to DIY if I want it to look nice. It's also still not level/square with the rest of the closet, and there's nothing they can do about that. I know CF did the best they could, but in the end, it was a bad experience, and I'm not happy with the final result. I hope this review is useful to other customers. read more

We had the occasion to hire Closet Factory to redesign the closet in our master bedroom, as we were doing a major remodel of our master bath and closet space. I put my custom closet project out to bid to three vendors here in town and ended up choosing Closet Factory for several reasons: 1) They did the best job listening to my needs and created the best plan of the three vendors. 2) They offered a reasonable price. 3) The quality of their product is excellent. Now that they have nearly completed the project and I can see the results, I'm so happy that I chose to work with them. From start to finish, they were extremely responsive to our needs, offered great solutions and advice, and were 100% service oriented. They offered extensive advice on how to maximize my space, which was smaller than we had prior to our remodel (as some of the closet space was taken to make room for the walk-in shower). I felt the need to give a review based on the experience we had. We had them install a entire closet. They damaged our home left it dirty and did not finish. You will notice in the responses they always have a snippy little response about how they tried to Correct the situation. Nothing could be further from the truth. I was met by their field manager who told me that the damage that they clearly caused wasn't something they would take care of. Then I was told they could send someone back if I wanted. Sure so you can damage my home again and not take responsibility. No thank you. So then they offered to supply me with the needed pieces of trim to complete the job. Here is the point NEVER was I given an apology nor was I offered compensation to finish the work I paid for. Then I was insulted being told that material is sharp and so are the tools they use can't be held responsible for not being careful. I can't tell you how often this kind of scenario goes down where a homeowner is ripped off all the money paid and the work not completed. If the owner had at least called me and apologized not responded with her "well it's your fault not ours on the review maybe I could let this go.".People beware read the bad reviews not the 5 stars they farm and pay for. This review is LONG overdue, but I can also write this review in full confidence of utilizing my closet for the past 7 months. I worked VERY closely with Jason to make sure I had the perfect closet for my new home. There were a lot of designs that went back and forth and I greatly appreciate all the time and patience that Jason had with me during this process. He really listened to my needs and the workers that did the installation (I'm so sorry I forgot their names!) were extremely professional, friendly and performed an impeccable job when it came down to the installation! On top of this, they were extremely competitive with their pricing, (and of a higher quality than some of their competitors to boot!). The only thing I would say, and this is my fault for not following my own personal rules - is make sure you have everything in writing. There was a bit of time between going into contract and the installation as I was working with new construction that also got delayed. On the last draft of the plans, I gave a verbal 'OK' as long as certain drawer sizes were changed. Upon the installation they installed the drawer sizes to the plans and not the change. That was my fault for not having them draft up that last correction and putting it in writing, particularly with might have even been two + months between contract and install. If you want your home damaged, hire Closet Factory Austin! I very rarely write reviews but after the experience we had with Closet Factory Austin, I felt that I had to warn others about using them. We hired them for 2 projects (a master closet re-do and 2 bathroom cabinets), which required two separate installation dates. These were expensive projects but the price seemed fair. On the second installation date everything was supposed to be finished but they had grossly miscalculated the time required and they barely started on one bathroom cabinet (this on its own is a breach of contract). We expected that they would come back the next day to finish but they said NO, they'd have to get back to us because they are so booked, maybe on the weekend (note that the install dates had been set months before and we had been waiting for several months!!). We asked them to come sooner because we had covered up all the floors in my house and now we had their materials blocking in the bathrooms and the garage. A couple days later unexpectedly at around 2:30pm one of the owners called me that he is coming to install in 30 minutes. Trying to be accommodating I let them come and start on the bathroom cabinets although I had to run to get my kids from school, and they worked until very late --again, I was trying to be accommodating and let them work late despite having young kids. Because I only had 30 mins notice before their arrival I didnt get to cover the floors like I had on the scheduled install date, but I gave the owner floor covers to protect the floors in their work area. He did NOT even attempt to use them. I asked the owner who was installing to call my cell when done (and specifically asked him NOT to text because I wouldn't hear it as I was outside on the patio). He did not call me (although the contract said he was supposed to have me inspect their work before they leave), but sent me a text that they were done and leaving. When I saw the text they had already left, I rushed to see the work product. They left the area quite dirty AND I found that the brand new floor tile in one of the bathrooms had a big chip, and the small piece of tile was right next to the damaged area. The walls had also been severely damaged, and not just in the immediate work area. Clearly the installers had been careless and took no care to avoid or minimize damage to our home. In the master closet the installers scratched our brand new countertops installed 2 days earlier so the countertop company had to come buff them out but they still dont look like before. We were shocked at how careless the Closet Factory installers were -- and when I called and emailed them about the damage, the owner's response was that they will not compensate us for the damage because they already spent so much more than they anticipated on our projects... that is because of all the mistakes THEY made and the quality issues with THEIR products! To give you an idea, they gave us the wrong color rods with rod holders that were of yet a different color, some of the drawers arrived damaged and had to be replaced, one unit they mis-measured and cut so shallow that the clothes were almost entirely outside the unit and they tried to blame that on us, and so on. The quality overall was not great and I had to pay someone else afterwards to put trim around the units to cover up the defects in installation and materials. We weren't thrilled with the quality of the materials or installation-- however, the fact that they damaged our home, our brand new floors and brand new walls and didnt even try to protect their work area but were completely careless, is beyond unprofessional. The owner's response to me was that their contract says that the client has to cover up and protect the floors and walls and, therefore, Closet Factory can do whatever they want, and doesn't need to be careful -- so, they can literally damage your home all they want in the process because they are not responsible, it's all on the client!
