I'm back, as promised, and this time with my family! We all gravitated toward the marinated porterhouse steaks, and every temperature was delivered precisely. One of my favorites from my first visit was the New England. This time, we were tempted by our most honest concierge, Jackie, Tristan's mother, to notch it up by blending the New England with the Manhattan. Later in the evening, her words were still ringing in our ears: "I told you so!" New England and Manhattan should probably never mix in "for real" life, but at Cliff's, they do, and should. An absolute must-have-Awesome appetizer! If you don't need all the pomp and circumstance, treat yourself to a most enjoyable, low-key setting. It's the kind of place where you can actually relax, have a conversation, and enjoy the company of your fellow patrons and tablemates. read more

I liked the baked clams and the marinated porterhouse steak with fries. The marinated steak was nice and meaty and nicely flavored. The baked clams tasted nicely with the bread crumbs and clam and a good squeeze of lemon on it. read more

I havent been to Cliff's Elbow Room in many years, and Im back home visiting the area after having moved. I stopped by tonight bc they are famous for the marinated steaks. I opted to get a marinated steak over a calabrese salad with mozzarella, tomato and red peppers with a balsamic dressing. The steak was delicious, and marinated to perfection. The waitresses were kind and the atmosphere is real homey. That's part of the attraction for me. Nothing changes, while everything else in the area is losing its rural character, you can go into Cliffs and reminisce the old days on the North Fork. I was there many times with my husband and friends and it feels like yesterday. I hope it always stays the same. To top it off, I had a slice of the chocolate cake for dessert. It was a happy ending for sure. Go to Cliffs Elbow Room if you're in Jamesport and want a good steak. read more

My husband wanted to take me here because he remembered the marinated steaks from when he was a teen like 25 yrs ago! The place is definitely dated, and not fancy, but that's what gives it its local charm. It has an old school, neighborhood joint feel, where locals have probably been coming for years and the staff knows everyone by name! We brought our 21 month old son and he was accommodated with a high chair and kid-friendly dining options. He ate every last bite of his fried shrimp and sweet potato fries. My husband and I shared the Kickin' Oysters app which were sooo good, that I wish there were more in the order. My son enjoyed his shrimp dipped in the oyster app sauce. We then got the marinated steak dinners, and mine was surf and turf with a decent size succulent lobster tail. The steaks came with salad, corn, and a potato. The marinated steaks were delicious. Juicy and cooked just how we requested with good flavor and char too. My lobster tail was cooked perfectly. After all that, we also managed to eat dessert. The cheesecake was our choice. It was okay, not homemade, but good enough to round out a delicious steak meal! Servers were friendly, and food came out quickly! If you want a no-frills but yummy steak dinner out on the North Fork, go here! read more

Actually compared to most nyc restaurants the restaurant was actually spacious. Our waitress was so sweet. We did come on a Monday afternoon so it wasn't so busy. I have never had a more delicious steak - the marinated porterhouse was the best steak I've ever had ( and I had been to Peter Lugers the week before. ) it was cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of flavor. The smash burger was also delicious. I remember when I was in Vegas a guy I was talking to told me he used to live out here and I had to try cliffs. Now I know why he couldn't forget about the place. read more

I think everyone should have at least one happy place, I'm fortunate to have a few and the Elbow Room has always been one of those restaurants for me. Fancy? I guess in its own right it is, I feel at home eating here. To me, this place is all about amazing marinated steaks, killer stuffed clams, a burger that puts most other burgers to shame and never pass up what they have on their specials menu. Add in friendly service and you can start to understand why. AND, there are three of them (Riverhead, Laurel and my go-to in Jamesport) Perfect for family or a quiet lunch for two. Most cards, parking can be tight depending on when you go, but go...and did I mention the clams? read more

Honest opinion time, I was very excited to finally try out the famous Cliffs but by the time I left I just felt like the entire experience was....meh If you've taken the trip, you already know what to expect. A small town no frills bar/steak house with about 10 tables in the dining area that's been doing things the same way for many many years. Sounds like it should be a hit but what I didn't expect is how truly aged the location is for example a non functional toilet and no ac/fans on a 90 degree day made things a little uncomfortable right from the start. I could easily get past the current state that the restaurant is in because what it really comes down to is the food, right? So here's my thoughts: Baked clams - as others have said you either love them or hate them. To me they tasted as if you took a can of Campbell's mushroom soup and little pieces of clam and threw it in a blender. Take the puree, fill a half shell and toss that straight into a broiler. It was certainly different. Dinner 1 - Shell steak special no marinade rare. Included a soup and potato. Steak was cooked right and there's really not much more to say about that. Opted for the new England clam chowder which was ok (smalls clams, potatoes, missing the richness I look for) Dinner 2 - Tbone special w/ their famous marinade rare and compound butter. Included potato and salad. So where to start, well the cook on the steak was more medium rare but I rolled with it. Right away I noticed the filet was tiny but the extra strip was enticing...until I cut into it and found just a big bone with no meat so that was disappointing. As for the marinade, it certainly gave the steak a nice color but overall i felt it really lacked any flavor and found myself reaching for the salt and pepper more then I'd like to admit. Compound butter is always a nice touch. Basic house salad w/ blue cheese did it's job. So overall at $50 a steak, I just felt like there could've been a little more to it. Basic potato choices were baked, fries, or mashed and after seeing the size and color of the baked potatoes at the table next to us, we both knew fries were the way the go. Had the option of upgrading to cream spinach for $5 more each but overheard another table complaining that it tasted like straight heavy cream so we decided against that. Oh and I don't usually make note of utensils but water cups showed extreme wear as they were faded and cracked, forks were light and flimsy, and knives could definitely use some sharpening. read more

Amazing burgers! The place is known for steaks, but I went for the marinated burger this time, perfectly cooked medium. The fries were super crisp, and the onion rings were perfectly crunchy too. Such a great combo. I was a bit thirsty afterward since the marinade is on the salty side, but still delicious. We sat at the bar, and the service was quick and friendly. Great casual stop when you're craving something hearty. read more

Y'all... I haven't eaten red meat in almost 10 years, and I was so tempted to try Cliff's marinated and charred steak. (Insert drool emoji + shushing face emoji) Our group of seven friends dined over a round table filled with dirty vodka martinis and wine. We started with their baked clams, marinated steak tidbits, pierogies, and chicken wings. My beau-hailing from Texas- refused to get the marinated steak (which appears to be burnt to a blackened crisp), but after his first bite of the tidbits, he tracked down our server to amend his steak order. Almost everyone got the steak; I got the turkey burger. The closest I could get to satiating my red meat craving without succumbing to temptation. Loved our service, the food, the drinks... the full experience of dining at a divey neighborhood steakhouse. read more

I went there tonight with family. I am rather large and when they say elvow Room Thats what they mean. I had to ask 2 people to get up so i could walk to my table. We were squeezing in at our table very uncomfortably. I wanted to sit next to my grandma but she was the only one who could physically fit in one of the seats which was no where near a seat a fatty like me could fit in. Honestly i feel like crying after being there. I am fat bc kf medical issues and it upsets me a lot. Then to go here and basically not be able to fit anywhere in there made me feel awful And i am crying ahile I write this. My brother in law said they have great french onion soup. Boy was he wrong! The soup lacked the traditional flavors of French onion soup. It was very wattery and i seriously disbliked it. Along comes my main course of scallops with a side of pasta. I love scallops notmally. The ones i got tonight were extremely fishy tasting. But not good fish like a rotten fish. The sauce was watery and lacked seasoning. So i had rotten fish over pasta. I am very nauseous tonight from my meals. Stay away from cliffs elbow room if you are overweight or dont like steak! (Went bc it was a part)! read more

This is a place we visit annually,on vacation, with friends. In the past it has always been a great experience, and the reason we keep coming back. This year July '26, it was missing a step. I dont know if we caught them on an off night, or if anything has changed in the past year with Cliff's in general. The steaks were still good but not tasting the same as previous years, several at our table agreed. The char wasn't as crisp, the marinade just tasted like soy sauce...it was a little underwhelming this year for a place we so looked forward to revisiting. Still a high recommend if visiting the North Fork. read more

After listening to my kids about how great the marinated filet mignon is, I was really looking forward to it. My daughter and I went there one day last week, to say the least, I was terribly disappointed. We both ordered the filet, expensive, I had trouble believing it was a filet. It was cooked to perfection, medium rare, but the meat was tough, shoeleather tough, the marinate way to salty. I worked hard trying to enjoy it, tossed half of it away. The service was fine, the ambiance, well it is the elbow room and they mean it!! Maybe it was just a bad night, but for the money, I'd think twice on it!...Sorry!!!! read more

I've been going to this restaurant for over 20 years and today was the absolute worst. Prior to today, I have never had a bad experience there. The waiter seemed like he couldn't be bothered. My medium rare steak came out medium well to well done. I said nothing because his vibe was so off putting. The dipping sauce for our fries was still solid from being in the fridge. When we asked about it he acknowledged but did not seem to care. I asked for a baked potato and was told it was only available after 4 pm. So I conceded to having mashed. My mashed potatoes were tough and inedible and the creamed spinach left much to be desired. All in all a disappointment. read more

Cold, snowy day. I've always heard good things about Cliff's, so we ended up here. There's a lack of parking spaces in front of the place, but the little shopping strip has several and there is also street parking available. Warm and cozy inside. Where we were sat, it wasn't drafty and the lighting was perfect. Not too bright, not too dim, and warm wood all around. Carol was our server, and she made sure everything came out well-timed. We were going to share a steak, and she made sure our salads were just right. The mussels were large and perfectly done. None of them came apart or were rubbery when extracted from the shell. Garlic bread was perfect for sopping up the sauce. Good thing there wasn't too much of the bread otherwise I would have had no choice but to overload on carbs Fried pickles and the steak were also done perfectly. The breading was nice and crisp and the pickles weren't overdone and soggy like many places we've had them at. The marinated T-bone special was just the right pinkness and the garlic butter on top made it that much better. We had 2 Westhampton Stouts apiece, that rounded everything out. We'll be back! read more

Amazing food that will bring you back when service meets the customer. Also old school classic pub feel.

The elbow room is nothing fancy just a cute little meeting place in jamesport with decent steak. If your hungry and you're in the mood for a good steak then come as you are. If you like your steak charred on the outside and juicy pink on the inside then this place is for you. If you're looking for a steak restaurant where your going to drop $150 a steak and be wined and dined then this is not your place. read more

The fried oysters were not worth the money. They only give you what I think was small 4 pieces. The baked clams were topped with breading and the interior was a gray substance where I couldn't tell what it was. Plus you only 3 clams and didn't taste any clams. Ordered a salad that consisted only of mixed greens no onions or tomatoes or anything else and my blue cheese dressing was honey mustard. Ordered smashed potatoes and the gravy tasted out of a can. Would of liked a vegetable option but only had a starch only as a side order. The tbone steak was cooked perfectly and tasted good but didn't feel was worth the money with the sides. And appetizers weren't worth it either. read more

A cozy venue amidst winery towns, amazing seafood and pub food with large portions and great service! Their New England clam chowder is a highlight--it has minced bacon. Many entrees come with sides, they also have specials like seafood paellas. We loved everything we ordered, also happened to come on Burger Sunday and it was a hearty option that half the table got. Their variety and menu is huge and everything is so well done! Highly recommend for a pit stop in between winery stops! read more

The food was gold, the Service was great But there were issues. Cliffs elbow room has a complete disregard for customers with mobility issues. The entrance has a 2-3 inch step that made it impossible for me to get my scooter in. My wife had to go get our ramps that we carry for such situations. Customers shouldn't have to bring their own ramps. You can order a rubber ramp on Amazon for $20, oh yeah, it's the law that you have one!!! The bathrooms are not accessible at all. When we brought these concerns to the "manager " she made it seem like it was our fault We did report them to the DOJ and they'll be getting a visit from an inspector and a hefty fine. If you or. Mother's Day and I'm the one who can't get the correct order of steak. Some of the recent reviews clearly have an axe to grind. Cliff's food up and down the menu is always solid and the wait staff is a hoot and take good care of you. The place is dated but intentionally so - it's part of the charm - and I have never found it dirty or things not in good working order. Good beer lineup, not so sure about the wine. My only issue is that it closes at random times; I've been turned away at 730 in the winter and 830 in the high season, for a place that lists 10pm as its closing hour. read more

A perfect hideaway restaurant in the quiet Eastern Suffolk. My husband has known about this restaurant for years and wanted to give it a try. We came in a few days ago and it had a very "homey feel to it". Think dive-bar but nice restaurant. We were quickly seated and our waitress took our drink orders. We ordered fried calamari as our appetizer. It was good but the marinara sauce looked like tomato paste. I've never seen a texture like that before, but it tasted fine. I ended up ordering an appetizer (steak frites) as my meal as it was more than enough while my husband ordered the charred t-bone. Everything was cooked to perfection and the steaks were delicious! The house marinade was the perfect sauce needed to tie in our dishes. Although we didn't end up trying it, you can have your steaks cooked black and blue. The service was very slow. We noticed a sign on our table explaining they were short-staffed and to be nice, which was fine, but everyone working there decided to eat dinner together in the next room. It was gross seeing our waitress lick her fingers as I'm sure she didn't wash her hands before touching our plates. read more

This place is actually quite disgusting. My family told me it was the best steak they've had on Long Island and that I had to try it. I ordered the NY Shell Steak marinated cooked medium. The steak was dry and tough. The service was very subpar as well; the whole staff is old ladies. This place is straight out of an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. Mostly a bar nowadays, the dining room is outdated and dirty. There was food scraps all over the floor & every tablecloth was stained and filthy. There were flies all over the restaurant. The steak came with microwaved mashed potatoes & a plastic cup on the side with "extra juice" to pour over the top. Would not tell anyone I care about to dine here. eBay a customer sees is just the tip of the iceberg and if your restaurant is this gross from what the customer CAN see, I don't want to know what I CANT see. read more

This was our first visit to the Elbow Room. I have lived in Long Island my entire life and must have passed a thousand times. We never felt like we were dressed up enough or something and never stopped for a meal. What was wrong with me !! The steaks are absolutely amazing. I had the petite filet and my husband the porterhouse. Other members in our party the same. They had been going to the Elbow room for 40 years. Yes, the steaks are pricey but worth every bite. We found out they even ship their steaks and the secret marinade. The building is small and dining is packed with tables I guess that is how the name came to be. We have always liked this restaurant due to the delicious steak they have that is marinated. So I figure I'd try Cliff elbow too, since the Cliff Rendezvous was atrocious back when I reviewed some 4 yrs ago. To my dismay, it's the same shit, different toilet. I'm convinced the people leaving such high rated reviews are friends and family or just people touching themselves, because this place is a zero.
