The beet salad was excellent as was the New England style clam chowder?The chicken Milanese and chicken Cordon blue were very tasty! The Red Rooster exceeded our expectations. We started with the clam chowder, two bowls of it, and it was the star of the meal. I've had a lot of clam chowder over the years, and the only bowl that beats this one is from Legal Seafoods in Boston. That's saying a lot. We followed that with the seafood cakes, which were fantastic, and the pork pate, which was excellent as well. The staff was warm and attentive throughout, and our waitress Erica was wonderful, friendly, quick, and clearly knew the menu well. Only note: prices run a bit steep. We stuck to water/appetizers and still walked away with a solid bill for two chowders, one order of seafood cakes, and one order of pork pate. I live in NYC and I convinced my brother and sister in law to take me and our 98 year old mother out for a drive east, and to have lunch somewhere out there. My mother and I each order the portobello mushroom, her with cheese and me without cheese. We also ordered the beet salad. My brother had the pasta and my sister in law had chicken and salad. They loved their pasta and chicken. My mother and I were not as thrilled. The mushroom was tiny, buried under greens. I had expected a decent sized mushroom but ours were so small. I am glad we also ordered the beet salad, which was mostly greens but the beets were good. They also ordered the flourless chocolate cake, which they enjoyed. The server was excellent, and I enjoyed my glass of wine. Lost track of time on a day out east with my girlfriend, forgot to check what times restaurants last seatings were and came very close to going hungry. The Rooster let us in close to closing time. Got our food out in a hurry and everything was delicious. The star of the show were the mussels. Plump, healthy mussels in the most wonderful saffron cream sauce. What a hidden gem, once inside definitely feels like you're in a farm house in the French countryside... Food here is fresh and delicious and high quality ingredients and everything is cooked to perfection. Service is friendly and they have a full bar. This restaurant is still our go-to restaurant for me and my mom. We discovered it one summer while we were out at the farms and have been going back ever since. It pains me to write this review about a restaurant I have loved for years, but I can't overlook the rudeness and poor customer service we encountered during our recent visit. The food is still amazing--an excellent assortment of French-American cuisine in a relaxed, country-style setting. From burgers and salads to classic dishes like Beef Bourguignon and Steak au Poivre, the menu has always impressed me. However, during our lunch today with my parents and a family friend, our experience was marred by an unexpected charge. We traveled nearly an hour to dine here, and while my mom and I decided to share an entree, my dad and friend each ordered their own meals. Our bill totaled $204, and we noticed that our Boeuf Bourguignon, listed at $36, had an additional $5 charge for splitting the meal. When my dad questioned this, the owner simply stated, "it is what it is because it's posted on the menu," and refused to remove the charge. My parents were upset, so I approached the manager in hopes of resolving the situation. Unfortunately, this only escalated the issue. Rather than addressing our concerns, she became defensive and dismissive. I suggested that they communicate the split meal charge more clearly, as it was in small print at the bottom of the menu. Instead of acknowledging our feedback, she raised her voice and insisted that we should have already known about the charge since we're regular customers. Her response was disheartening. I expressed my disappointment that she wouldn't consider our perspective or offer an apology, to which she replied, "go ahead and write your review." After this encounter, we all agreed not to return, which is unfortunate because of a simple $5 miscommunication on a $204 bill. The Boeuf Bourguignon, which we shared, was delicious, just as I remembered. I had planned to write a glowing review and share beautiful photos of the restaurant and our meal. Instead, I'm left feeling disappointed and frustrated by the owner's poor customer service and inflated ego. This was my first time for a sit down dinner at the Red Rooster Bistro and boy did it have me clucking! This used to be a farmers bar called the Blue Top then a bbq joint called the farmers bar. They have really hit the mark with the decor and theme this time around. It still has that county ambiance with plenty of rooster plates and decorations hanging on the walls to give the space a cozy feel. The service was phenomenal with the staff making sure all are needs were met and the food had the same taste and feel that the restaurant presents. I'll definitely be going back. P.S. It had been a long time since we were here and I thought it would be a great place to go for my birthday dinner and we were not disappointed. I was so happy to see escargot on the menu and it was amazing. I was so used to getting it in that little dish with 6 little snails in garlic and butter but wow did this surprise me! There was so much escargot in the garlic butter sauce I was shocked! The biscotti was just enough to sop up that tasty stuff. My husband had the Red Rooster salad that he really loved and it was so refreshing. Our main dishes were the Chicken Voldostana and NZ Rack of lamb both amazing and wonderfully flavorful. There are three things to consider in rating a restaurant. The environment, the food and the service. The Red Rooster Bistro is a living dichotomy! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The environment is great. It is clean, attractive and nicely decorated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food served to my wife and I at lunch was an embarrassment. We started with a beet salad which was very fresh and dressed with a typical French bistro vinaigrette and the New Zealand mussels. There were only 8 mussels floating in a saffron cream sauce accompanied with two siices of toasted baguette. The sauce was very good but the saffron flavoring was too subtle to be appreciated. The mussels were very overcooked rendering them inedible and tasteless. Next the entrees arrive. My wife had the Faroe Island Salmon which was served in a bland cream sauce. While edible it was very ordinary! I ordered the Maple Farm Duck which was advertised as coming without breasts (I wondered what they do with the breasts?). It arrived floating in what they called 'unagi demi-glace'. I suppose it is their version of the Japanese sauce served with eel but their version was too salty, tasted terrible and I found it to be inappropriate for this dish! The duck skin desirably crispy but the meat was badly overcooked and dry. The sauce on the edge of the plate was stone cold. That was a giveaway that the dish was previously prepared and improperly reheated for serving. The mashed potatoes and vegetables on both plates were ordinary. Now we come to the service! The lady who we presume was an owner is perfectly suited to be a prison guard but a disaster serving patrons! When taking our order she bragged unnecessarily about all the food and was not helpful in assisting us with our order. Later when she came over to clear our plates and saw that I barely touched my duck she asked if I wanted to take it home. I told her no because I didn't care for it. Instead of showing any concern she used my comment as an opportunity to lecture us on it's popularity and that people come for all over and love it. She then unsolisitedly brought us the check skipping the customary request 'would you like to see a dessert menu'. Her message was clear: 'pay and get out'! And now for the 'coup de grace'. When my wife asked me if she removed the duck from the bill she proudly announced 'I did not'. Based on other reviews, I suspect the chef wasn't there for an early Sunday lunch serving which resulted in our being served previously prepared commissary style food prepared by inferior staff members. Based on reading many reviews I suspect the food was unusually bad but the service was typical. Guess who will NEVER RETURN! This review is looking pretty epic! Nice! read more

The place feels very rustic and welcoming. The staff is friendly, and our company of five was seated promptly. The Manu has a French influence. We tried their burrata salad, which comes with croutons, which is super delicious. The portions are plentiful. I went there a few days ago with my son and husband. The food was good that wasn't my problem. I ordered a diet coke, my son ordered a diet coke and my husband just drank water and lemon. During the meal my son asked for another soda. When the bill came the beverage charge was $24 for 3 sodas!!! We didn't say anything at the time because I know the restaurant is kind of pricey. The next day I looked up their menu on line. There are beers for $8 a glass but no price for soda. Now I had to call. A woman with an accent answered who is the owner. I asked her how much they charge for a soda and she said $4. I told her I was overcharged two nights ago and she asked if I had the receipt. Regrettably I did not but I told her we paid with a $100 gift certificate and added $40 in cash plus a $30 tip. I told her the waitresses name. How often do people come in with $100 gift certificates? I knew the waitresses name. Did she think I was lying? She was very snooty and rude. She just kept saying that without a receipt she couldn't do anything. To pay $24 for 3 sodas that probably cost them $1! My husband is a salesman and said that over something as trivial as a soda she should have just said that next time we come in she would comp us the soda.
