We go to this place every time before a show at the Suffolk Theater. It's such a casual, friendly awesome place that has great food and drinks. The bartender Jeff is amazing and remembers us every time we go here. He's a lot of fun, and so is the rest of the staff. You can tell they really enjoy working there and are so friendly and accommodating, even with large parties like ours was that night. The steaks are delicious, and since it is a steak place, you have to try them, you won't be disappointed! Drinks are also great and service is awesome! When we tell them we have a show to catch, they are quick to serve us, but we never feel rushed. I sat at the bar, and was immediately greeted by the bartender who asked my name and addressed me by my name the entire time I was there no matter how busy she got. Customer Service is clearly an emphasis here. I just came in for a mid-afternoon appetizer and beer. I ordered the philly cheese steak egg rolls. I felt like they were a bit bland and small given the price. They were served with a side of soy sauce, which I found a bit off as the flavors didn't really match up. It would have been exponentially better with a side of chipotle aioli or other similar dipping sauce. I can't judge the place completely on an app, so I won't be too judgemental. 4 stars for the small town feel and customer service, with an average appetizer. read more

If you want to be taken care of and have your every need met -- like water, silverware, napkins, etc., in a timely manner, this place is going to let you down. But if you can stick it out, be patient and overlook the rough around the edges level of service, a meal at Cliff's will make you pretty happy -- especially if you love steak and seafood. My mom and I came here on a Saturday night and waited a short amount of time for seats to open. A woman who was there waiting for her partner asked us if we could switch bar seats with her, since the guy she was with is very superstitious and sat in this exact same seat last week before playing a successful round of golf, which he wanted to do again. We made room for golf bro since it meant we'd actually be seated sooner. We put in an order for clams on the half shell, and I ordered a dirty martini which was made perfectly. From this point until after our main courses came out, I tried to flag down some water from the bartender, but with every seat taken and golf bro needing lots of attention this took a while, as did trying to get some silverware. All that said, the clams were fresh, the steak special I ordered was impeccably marinated and the soft shell crabs were fried to golden perfection. I'd gladly come here and have my needs ignored again if it meant having food this good. So my husband and I went on a Saturday night at 5pm. They had 4 tables full and a lot of open tables. We sat and ordered in about 5 min. We got the 1/2 shell steak marinaded. We got our salad about 3 minutes after ordering. That was fine. But then no joke we got our food 4 minutes after our salad. We still had full salads and now our food is sitting getting cold. The food was good and we always get the marinade. But we were in and out in less than 30 min. To pay $80 and be rushed so much when there was still only 6 tables when we left. We will definitely be back, but I would request the lower area. It's spaced much better. The evening we went, it was packed house and our server could not keep up. An "East End" steakhouse. Visited a few times and the food is always reliable. Prices are fairly reasonable as well. I've only stuck with the basics of steaks and burgers, and they were very good. Atmosphere is casual and there's definitely a lot of locals that come in here. I'm not one of them but the staff is friendly and accommodating. We were in Riverhead running errands (yes, a Costco run) on a rainy, cold Wednesday night and felt like sampling a bit of the local fare when we strolled past Cliff's. We were drawn in my the great name and that wonderful neon "Cocktail Lounge" sign. It looked inviting inside and the looks did not deceive. Good got great when we read the special menu under the glass: it was steak night! Three courses for $24.95. You gotta be kidding me! Great bowl of chowder, fabulous marinated shell steak and a delectable slice of chocolate cake for desert. Deanna, our server, was courteous, funny and helpful. I have been going here recently prior to seeing a show at Suffolk Theatre. I made a reservation for 4 people. We were told they did not have a table for us. Unfortunately the staff who took my reservation did not write it " IN THE BOOK " Instead it was only written down on a piece of paper. The fool working the front counter lacked any skills necessary to address this customer's concerns. When I asked why not seat us at one of the open tables, I was told those reservations were written in the book. This was not my mistake but became my problem. We ended up seated at the bar on the most uncomfortable bar stool ever. Our party of four could not converse around a table and the people on the far sides could not speak to one another. We were offered no discount what so ever, no attempts at appeasement were made. The bar tender did not want to hear my complaints, instead my displeasure was left to fester. After oyster appetizers I got "signature smash burger" and wife got "boiled scallops". Burger came out as a regular patty, no smash, and everything was sloppy. Boiled scallops came out in a bath of watered down butter with a bunch of italian seasoning for flavor... 99% sure those scallops were from a frozen bag. French fries were good, but thats a given at a place where average meal is $30. Definitely priced for fresh and good food, but ended up being very disappointing. I was told they had the best in town .. the wings was horrible the only thing good about the wings was the breading lol they are either pre boiled the day before or cooked from frozen crispy outside and just mush inside and the center was cold like ice cold and the shapes of the wings was not right. Stopped in for a quick bite after visiting the aquarium. It's walking distance from there and I'd heard good things. We were able to get a table without a wait and the service was spot on. I quickly looked through other Yelp reviews to help me deicide on what to get and landed with the burger - always a classic. I ordered a simple cheddar cheeseburger, medium rare, and marinated. YUMMY! The burger came out perfectly cooked and dripping with marinated juices. They were able to sub a side salad instead of fries with no problem, I don't think there was an extra cost, it wasn't mentioned and I didn't check the bill. We also ordered a shrimp wrap with a side salad, and a kids portion of grilled chicken/broccoli. They offer a kids menu but if you want something a little healthier for your little one, just know it's an option! Staff was very nice and although from the outside it looks a bit like a dark dive, it was actually decent inside and looked clean.
